Mass Detention: Taliban Hold 40 Ghazni Residents Amid Allegations of Intelligence Officer’s Killing
[8am] Local sources in Ghazni report that in the aftermath of the liquidation of the head of Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
’s intelligence management in Khaja Omari district, the Taliban have detained and allegedly tortured at least 40 civilians.

Sources confirmed to Hasht-e Subh on Thursday, August 10th, that over the course of this week, the Taliban have incarcerated this number of civilians who reside in Qal-e Naw village within this district.

According to sources, the detained individuals face daily brutal beatings at the hands of prison guards affiliated with the Taliban.

Reports suggest that despite efforts by local elders to secure the release of these individuals from Taliban custody, no progress has been made.

Local Taliban officials in Ghazni have refrained from commenting on this matter so far.

These events unfold after the head of Taliban’s intelligence management in Khaja Omari district was killed on the night of Friday, August 4th, due to gunfire by unidentified armed individuals within the district. A family member of the dear departed also sustained injuries.

As of now, no individual or group has grabbed credit for the liquidation of this Taliban member.

Somalia: SNA neutralizes over 25 Al-Shabaab militants - minister
Follow up to this story from a few days ago.
[Garowe] At least 25 al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
forces of Evil were killed in Tuesday's crackdown in central Somalia, with the Army announcing that it inflicted injuries to dozens of other holy warriors, as the security forces comb the region following a first phase of operations within the vicinity.

Special commandos targeted the forces of Evil in Bulo Burde and Mukayle villages in central Somalia, a few days after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited the region to assess the progress made in fighting the group, which is responsible for many deaths across the country.

Deputy Minister of Information of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdirahman Yusuf Adala told Somali National News Agency [SONNA] that the army destroyed 16 vehicles in which the bandidos holy warriors were preparing explosives at a big garage in the area during the operation.

"Somali National Army’s Danab unit conducted a well-coordinated military operation at Mukeyle area near Bula-burte in Hiiraan region this morning, the forces destroyed holy warriors’ intent to arrange vehicles with explosives, the attack inflicted heavy casualties on the militias", Adala said.

According to him, the Somali National Army was supported by regional troops and foreign forces, leading to significant achievement within the region. Hiiraan is considered as a bedrock of al-Shabaab but clan mobilization has made it possible for al-Shabaab to retreat.

Somalia's spy agency intercepts explosives
[Garowe] Somalia's spy agency has intercepted explosives destined for al-Shabaab

strongholds even as the country gears for the second phase of operations against the hard boys, who have been controller parts of central and southern regions for the last two decades.

The National Intelligence Security Agency [NISA] confirmed in a tweet that a vehicle carrying bombs was intercepted along Elasha- Biyaha Road within Mogadishu, the capital, leading to a shootout with the driver. The driver was subdued and went titzup, the agency said.

While committing itself to secure the country from the hands of the hard boys, the spy agency insisted that the crackdown against the murderous Moslems would be intensified across the country, noting that locals should also actively participate for the sake of sharing intelligence.

"Our special forces in Elasha- Biyaha intercepted a vehicle carrying bombs and killed the driver after he attempted to escape. NISA is committed to preventing and thwarting all plans that hard boyz intend to harm the people," the agency said.

NISA works closely with security forces in pursuing criminals including al-Shabaab hard boys, who have been fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed federal government of Somalia but have struggled due to resistance. multi-agency teams safeguarding civilians in Somalia.

A powerful explosion hits a civilian bus in southern Somalia
More on this story from yesterday.
[Garowe] A landmine explosion left at least six people dead in Somalia on Wednesday, police confirmed, with several others sustaining serious injuries according to a local governor who spoke to members of the press immediately after the unfortunate incident.

Governor Mohammed Ibrahim Barre of Lower Shabelle said a minibus traveling between Marka and Qoryoley was hit by the landmine with at least 20 civilians on board, including women and kiddies. So far, nobody has grabbed credit but the governor accused al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
of plotting the attack.

Frequently, al-Shabaab snuffies target senior government officials, members of security forces, and innocent civilians with these explosives. The al-Shabaab snuffies are not known for ground combat but instead prefer using Improvised Explosive Devices [IEDs].

Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
Secretary-General for Somalia Kiki Gbeho told the U.N. Security Council earlier this year that al-Shabaab continues to pose a serious threat to peace and security in Somalia, VOA reports.

"The year 2022 was the deadliest for civilians since 2017, with a 60 percent increase in civilian casualties as compared to 2021," she said in her statement during a briefing about Somalia.

Between 2020 and 2021, a record of 109 IED attacks were recorded by the United Nations in Somalia, killing 309 people and injuring at least 556 others. The number could be higher given that there are some attacks that go unreported in the country.

The IED attacks include using vehicle-borne improvised bombs [VBIE]), suicide kabooms using both vehicle-borne improvised bombs [SVBIED] and person-borne improvised bombs [PBIED], and victim-operated improvised bombs [VOIED], the report said.

Ethiopia: the army advances, has ''liberated'’ major towns in Amhara, according to the government
[AFRICANEWS] The Æthiopian government announced on Wednesday that major towns in the northern Amhara region had been "liberated", after several days of deadly fighting between the federal army and local militias.

Residents interviewed by AFP also reported the advance of Æthiopian forces.

The General Directorate of the State of Emergency, a government body, later claimed that six major Amhara towns had been "freed from the threat of bandidos": the regional capital Bahir Dar, Lalibela, Gondar, Shewa Robit, Debre Berhan and Debre Markos. A curfew has been imposed in all six towns.

No official figures on the fighting have been released, but two doctors in Bahir Dar and Gondar reported that many non-combatants were killed or maimed.

The government declared a state of emergency for six months on Friday, following an upsurge in violence in this part of Africa's second most populous country, just nine months after the end of a devastating conflict in the neighbouring region of Tigray.

Amhara troops, including regional "special forces" and the nationalist Fano militia, were key allies of the government during the war between November 2020 and November 2022.

But they have been at odds with the federal authorities since April, after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced his intention to disband these "special forces", paramilitary units created by many regional states over the last fifteen years. Amhara nationalists see this as a move to weaken their region.

After several days of festivities, however, federal forces appear to have repelled the fighters. On Tuesday evening, the Amhara government announced the return of "relative peace and stability", and on Wednesday, the General Directorate of the State of Emergency stated that federal forces were "in the process of dispersing" the militia fighters.

As access to the region is restricted, it is not possible to independently verify the situation on the ground.

Ethiopia: army advances in Amhara - authorities

[AFRICANEWS] The Æthiopian army was regaining ground on Wednesday against militias in the Amhara region, according to residents interviewed by AFP, after the local government on Tuesday evening spoke of a return to "relative peace".

The national airline Æthiopian Arlines announced that it would resume flights to the regional capital Bahir Dar and Gondar on Thursday. Services to the other two airports, Lalibela and Dessie, remain suspended.

Amhara, a region in northern Æthiopia, has been under a state of emergency since Friday due to the deadly festivities taking place there, only nine months after the end of a devastating conflict in the neighboring Tigray region.

Amhara forces, including the nationalist Fano militia, were key allies of the government during this war between November 2020 and November 2022.

But tensions have emerged since April after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced his intention to disband the "special forces", paramilitary units created by many regional states over the past fifteen years. Amhara nationalists believe that the government wants to weaken their region.

After several days of festivities, federal forces appear to be regaining ground in several parts of the region.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, the Amhara government claimed that "relative peace and stability" had returned, maintaining that the army had taken "appropriate action" against "extremist groups".

Residents contacted by AFP on Wednesday said Fano fighters had been pushed back in Gondar and Lalibela, a Unesco World Heritage site famous for its ancient rock-hewn churches.

"Things seem to be changing today," said Gondar tuktuk driver Simachew: "The ENDF (army) has taken control of most parts of the city after heavy fighting in recent days."

"The engagement has been supported by tanks and armored vehicles, which are still in the city", he continued, claiming that "the Fano have been pushed back into just one area of the city", where fighting is "still ongoing".

In Lalibela, "the Fano have left the town and are in the forest", said Ayalew, a local resident, adding that there was no movement in the town. "We can only hear the sound of heavy artillery fire", he added.

With access to the area restricted, it is not possible to independently verify the situation on the ground.

"I never thought I would return home," Akam Sofyol Anam told reporters in Dhaka, following his return a day earlier on Wednesday, calling the last 18 months "horrifying".

"I thought the bully boyz might kill me anytime", added Anam, a former army lieutenant colonel. "My days were miserable. There was a fear of death every day; it cannot be expressed in words — it is seen in films only."

Anam said that he was not physically tortured, but had often been kept blindfolded.

"I couldn’t see the sky for months," he said, adding that he was moved repeatedly from place to place.

He said that he had "no idea how much money they wanted or what was their demand", adding that he thought he had been "targeted as I was an UN official." Anam "expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister the loathesome Sheikh Hasina

Major southern Yemeni separatist warlord Abdul Latif al-Sayed assassinated
[HodhodYemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
News] A commander in the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias was killed on Thursday in Mudiyah district of Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
province, south of Yemen.

Sources familiar with the matter revealed the leader of the "Security Belt" factions of the STC, Abdul Latif al-Sayed, was targeted by an bomb planted in his car in Wadi Omran of the district, amid accusations that Emirati intelligence was behind the liquidation.

The sources indicated that the liquidation came just a week after he was appointed commander of the "Security Belt" factions in the province.

Al-Sayed’s funeral took place hours after his liquidation in the Batis area, in the presence of a limited number of leaders of the STC factions in the province.

Among the killed were also the head of the so-called Security Belt Staff, Salah al-Yousifi al-Yafei, and a tribal sheikh affiliated with the STC, Mohammed Karid al-Jaadani, in addition to three of al-Sayed companions, the sources added.

Al-Sayed was one of the most prominent leaders of al-Qaeda factions that brought down the city of Ja’ar in Khanfar area of Abyan in the beginning of 2011.

After the war on Yemen in March 2015, he had became one of the most senior commanders of the UAE-funded factions in Abyan.
The convoy had been en route to a flashpoint area that has seen regular confrontations with Al Qaeda fighters.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast which killed Abdullatif al Sayyid, the commander of the Security Belt Forces in Abyan province.

Europe
Three French police charged over man’s death during riots
[Dawn] Three French police were charged on Thursday over a 27-year-old man’s death during nationwide rioting earlier this summer, prosecutors said, an uncommon instance of officers facing a criminal case over on-duty violence.

An autopsy of the man who died in Marseille during the riots showed marks on his chest consistent with the impact of a shot from a blast ball commonly used by police, prosecutors said.

The officers were arrested on Tuesday over the incident — the only known death at or on the margins of the unrest that gripped La Belle France in late June and early July over killing of a teenager by a policeman during a traffic check outside Gay Paree on June 27.

The riots were met by a forceful police response.

The man, Mohammed Bendriss — a married father of one whose widow is expecting a second child — died after feeling unwell while riding a scooter.

Prosecutors have said they consider it "probable" that the man’s death was "caused by a violent mostly peaceful impact to the thorax caused by the firing of a projectile of the blast ball type".

The three will be charged with "armed violence unintentionally causing death". However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
the prosecutor’s office also said that the victim may have been involved in the looting of a shoe outlet in the city.

Indications were that Bendriss had been involved in theft from the store, and was being pursued by police as he rode his scooter away.

As he rode on the pavement past police he was hit by one projectile, and another — a so-called bean bag round — hit his scooter.

Three LeT associates held as police bust terror module in Baramulla

Three LeT associates were arrested along with arms and ammunition in north Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
's Baramulla district, police said today.

"J&K Police along with Army in Baramulla busted a terror module by arresting 03 terrorist associates linked with proscribed terrorist outfit LeT. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition have also been recovered from their possession," said a police front man.

"During joint patrolling and area domination exercise in Churunda Uri, a joint team of Baramulla Police & Army (16 SIKHLI) noticed a suspicious person who attempted to flee upon spotting the patrolling party. However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
the suspect was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Showkat Ali Awan son of Abdul Karim Awan resident of Churunda Uri."

During their search, two grenades were recovered from his possession, added the front man.

"Subsequently, he was shifted to cop shoppe where he was put under sustained questioning. During questioning, he disclosed the names of his accomplices as Ahmad Din son of Shukur Din & Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana son of Umer Din, both residents of Churunda Uri, who were subsequently arrested. On their disclosure, 02 grenades, 01 Chinese Pistol, 1 Pistol Magazine, 4 live rounds & other incriminating materials were recovered."

The arrested terrorist associates were involved in cross border smuggling of arms & ammunition at the behest of Pakistain based terror handlers and further its distribution to LeT Death Eaters for carrying out terror activities, said the front man.

"Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Uri and investigation has been initiated."

PKK attacks Turkish soldiers in Kurdistan Region’s Duhok, killing six
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish defence ministry on Thursday announced that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) carried out attacks against its soldiers in the Kurdistan Region in the last two days, killing six members of the Ottoman Turkish army.

The ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the PKK opened fire on Ottoman Turkish soldiers in Duhok province, killing two and injuring three others who later shuffled off the mortal coil. One of them was a commander.

In a separate attack on Thursday, the PKK killed another soldier in the same area, according to the ministry which claimed that it "neutralised" four PKK fighters in a retaliatory attack.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
uses the term "neutralised" to denote that the person in question is captured, maimed or killed.

In April last year, Turkey launched Operation Claw-Lock with the goal of targeting PKK positions in Metina, Zap, Avashin, and Basyan areas in northern Duhok province. The operation, according to Ankara, aims to remove the PKK from the bordering areas and cut off its access to mainland Turkey.

Turkey says both deadly attacks took place in Operation Claw-Lock region.

PKK on Wednesday claimed it had killed 12 Ottoman Turkish soldiers in Zap region, which is covered by the operation, but it is not clear if it was referring to the same attacks in which Ankara says killed six soldiers.

"Four shells targeted the road next to my house and the fifth one targeted the kitchen," she told North Press. "The injuries were caused by the fragments of the shells."

According to Haya, the casualties are: Haya al-Khamees, 9, Abdullah al-Khamees, 2.5 years, Jouza al-Sameet, 60. In addition to Haya, her daughters in law, Amani al-Khamees, 4, and Malak, 12 were all injured due to the fragments.

Haya now is in a stable situation in Modern Medicine Hospital in Raqqa after she underwent a surgery to her leg, according to a medical official in the hospital who preferred not to be named.

The town of Ain Issa has been under constant shelling by the Ottoman Turkish forces and their affiliated armed factions since Oct. 2019, when they launched the so-called "Peace Spring" military operation on the city of Sere Kaniya (Ras al-Ain) in the north of Hasakah, and Tel Abyad in the north of Raqqa to push away the Syrian Democratic Forces(SDF) under the pretext to protect the Ottoman Turkish national security.

Turkish forces injure 2 people in Syria’s Hasakah

[NPASyria] Two people were injured on Wednesday in Turkish artillery and mortar shells that targeted villages in the towns of Tel Tamer and Zirgan (Abu Rasin), north of Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria.

A military source told North Press that the Turkish forces targeted the village of Umm al-Keif, west of Tel Tamr, with six mortar shells.

A medical source from Lekrin Hospital in Tel Tamr said that the shelling of the village resulted in the injury of two people.

The Turkish forces shelled on Wednesday at dawn villages in the countryside of Tel Tamr and Zirgan.

Tel Tamr, which has a population of about 25,000 and is 30 km away from the Syrian-Turkish border, is of strategic importance as it is a junction on the M4 Highway linking Hasakah in northeast Syria to Aleppo governorate in northwest.

[NPASyria] Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled on Wednesday at dawn villages in the countryside of the towns of Tel Tamr and Zirgan (Abu Rasin) in northern Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria.

So far, no material or human casualties as a result of the attack have been reported.

The Turkish forces targeted on Tuesday night with heavy artillery the villages of Khirbet al-Sha’ir and Tel al-Ward in the countryside of the town of Zirgan.

Turkish authorities deport 12 Syrian refugees to northern Syria

[NPASyria] Turkish authorities deported on Thursday 12 Syrian refugees through Tel Abyad border crossing with Turkey in northern Raqqa Governorate, northern Syria, after keeping them detained for days.

An exclusive source told North Press that Turkish authorities handed over 12 Syrians, including a young man shot by Turkish border guards, who had attempted to cross the border in the west of the city of Tel Abyad, to the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA).

He added that they were taken to a detention center in Tel Abyad for investigation.

Since the beginning of July, Turkey has launched a deportation campaign against the Syrian refugees residing in its territory, especially in Istanbul.

In late July, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed that “more than 600,000 displaced people have returned to the country.” In May, Erdogan said that Turkey is working on ensuring the “voluntary return” of 1 million Syrian refugees.

The handover is the fourth operation carried out in August against Syrians detained while trying to cross the border to Turkish territories.

Though Syria is still unsafe for returns, Turkey tries to get rid of the refugees by forcibly deporting them, as the Turkish authorities have intensified the forced deportation of Syrians, as part of what they call voluntary return to safe areas in northwestern Syria, according to media and documentary reports.

Molotov cocktail thrown at Swedish embassy in Beirut amid Quran-burning tensions
[IsraelTimes] Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom says ’it was sheer luck that no one was injured’ in incident, amid widespread anger in Moslem world against Stockholm

An assailant threw a Molotov cocktail at Sweden’s embassy in Beirut, causing no casualties, Stockholm’s foreign minister and a diplomatic source said Thursday, amid anger over recent Koran desecrations.

"We confirm that there was a Molotov cocktail thrown at the facade of our embassy last evening, which did not explode," a diplomatic source at the embassy said, requesting anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the media.

The "perpetrator managed to run away," the source added.

Tensions have flared between Sweden and Moslem countries following several protests involving public desecrations of the Koran in Stockholm — including setting pages alight. Lebanese security forces had bolstered measures around the embassy in downtown Beirut for fear of attacks.

Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom said "it was sheer luck that no one was injured" in Wednesday’s attack and that staff were safe.

"The incident is currently being investigated," he said in a statement on Thursday, noting that "Lebanese authorities have an obligation under the Vienna Convention to protect diplomatic missions."

Late last month, two Iraqi men set a copy of the Koran alight outside the Swedish parliament in Stockholm, in an act similar to others in recent weeks that had drawn widespread condemnation.

Salwan Momika and Salwan Najem stomped on the Moslem holy book, set its pages ablaze before slamming it shut, as they did at a protest outside Stockholm’s main mosque in June.

The duo also staged a similar protest outside Iraq’s embassy in the Swedish capital on July 20, where they stomped on the religious text.

Iraqi protesters had stormed the Swedish embassy in Baghdad twice, starting fires within the compound on the second occasion.

The military said 31 Syrians and 15 Lebanese were arrested Tuesday in several coastal towns and villages in northern Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
, including Minye, Salaata and Deir Am. The smugglers were getting ready to take "people through illegal ways by sea" and had prepared several boats, the army said.

It gave no further details but added that the detainees are being questioned.

For years Lebanon had been a country that received refugees from the region but since the small nation's economic meltdown began in October 2019, thousands of Lebanese, Syrians and Paleostinians have been trying to take the dangerous trip across the Mediterranean to reach Europe in search of stability and opportunities.

Alongside 1 million Syrian refugees, Lebanon is also home to tens of thousands of Paleostinian refugees and their descendants, many living in refugee camps scattered around the country.

A boat carrying migrants colonists from Lebanon capsized off Syria's coast in September, leaving at least 94 people dead. It was the deadliest incident involving migrants colonists leaving Lebanon and was followed by a wave of detentions of suspected smugglers.
