[Variety] Struggling media company Vice Media Group is gearing up to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection — and then sell itself to some of its backers for about $400 million, according to a new report.
The Brooklyn-based company post-bankruptcy arrangement to sell to investors including Fortress Investment Group and Soros Fund Management would value it at $400 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. That would be less than 10% of its once high-flying $5.7 billion valuation back in 2017. The New York Times last week reported that Vice was prepping a bankruptcy filing.
Cash-strapped Vice Media has been searching for a buyer over the past year, to no avail. In February, Nancy Dubuc announced her exit as CEO after almost five years. The company subsequently appointed longtime execs Bruce Dixon and Hozefa Lokhandwala as co-CEOs.
Under the proposed sale to “senior lenders,” Fortress “plans to find a role for Vice co-founder Shane Smith,” who is executive chairman and previously served as CEO prior to Dubuc’s hire.
The bankruptcy and sale would “wipe out” most of Vice’s other shareholders, including TPG Group and James Murdoch (who invested in the company via his Lupa Systems investment firm), per the Journal report. Vice has been unable to pay many of its vendors and recently secured a $30 million “lifeline” from Fortress, the Journal previously reported.

[Gateway] Democrat presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sat down with Freddie Sayers the Editor-in-Chief of Unhurd and had a lot of interesting things to say about the CIA.
The topic of the CIA got brought up when Sayers asked Kennedy what kind of approach he plans to take with the CIA.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. responded to Sayers’ question by saying "the CIA needs to be reorganized."
He continued "Very early on Allen Dulles( former CIA Director) corrupted the purpose of the CIA by getting it involved in assassinations and fixing elections... the CIA has been involved in coup d’état’s in a third of the countries in the world."
Kennedy rounded up his thought by saying "Our national policy as a country is to promote democracy the CIA’s policy has been the opposite."

"If people start talking about the bribes I took during the Obama administration, they'll end up finding out about everything else I've done over the last 50 years. Darginsparnbinder!"
Aides quickly led the President to the wheel as advisors and members of the cabinet stood by to put a new distracting story into action. "How about another pandemic? Let's hope the wheel lands on that!" Biden said. "The next one won't be ready until next year for the election, sir," answered one aide. "Shoot. What about blowing up a food processing plant?" Biden asked. "We don't have any left, Mr. President," said another advisor.
"What'll it be? Ban another random part of a gun? Tell everyone our democracy is under attack? Fall off my bike again?" Biden said.
The President then gave the Wheel of Distraction a mighty spin, with the administration members clapping and cheering. The room fell silent as the clicking of the spoked wheel slowed, finally landing on "ASSASSINATE PUTIN."
"Ah, darn it! We tried that last week and it didn't work," Biden said disappointed. "But, the wheel has spoken!"

[ZeroHedge] A new study has identified over a dozen new psychoactive drugs in the wastewater of various sites worldwide.
The trend of increasing new psychoactive substances (NPS) and the difficulty for law enforcement to control their circulation prompted a study by the University of Queensland, Australia, which was part of an international wastewater surveillance program.
The study covered a three-year period—from 2019 to 2022—and 47 cities in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, China and Brazil.
The lead scientist Dr Richard Bade told UQ News that they detected 18 NPS in the wastewater samples from around the world.
“In Australia, we found seven new psychoactive substances, including mephedrone, ethylone and eutylone, which all have a similar effect to MDMA or cocaine,” Bade said.
“We also found an increase in similar drugs in Europe, where there were high levels of 3-methylmethcathinone, particularly in Spain and Slovenia.
WHAT ARE NPS DRUGS
New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) are synthetic or semi-synthetic substances that are designed to mimic the effects of traditional illicit drugs such as cocaine, cannabis, or amphetamines.
They are sometimes called “designer drugs” or “legal highs” because they are often created to circumvent existing drug laws and regulations.
NPS can be chemically similar to illegal drugs, or they may have entirely new chemical structures that have not been previously identified.
Some examples of NPS include synthetic cannabinoids, cathinones, and phenethylamines.
These substances are often marketed as legal alternatives to traditional drugs, and are sold online, in head shops, or on the street.
One of the main concerns with NPS is that their effects are often not well understood, and they can be much more potent than traditional drugs, which can lead to a range of health risks, including overdose, addiction, and long-term health consequences.
As NPS are often marketed as “legal highs”, many people assume that they are safe to use, but this is not the case.
It’s important to remember that just because a substance is legal or unregulated it does not mean that it is safe or without risk.

Since the pandemic start. The USA claims 106,765,870 Coronavirus Cases and 1,162,420 "related" deaths. Which is a 1.088% infection to death ratio.
Rhode Island still is Number #1 in the nation for the most cases per million population @ 411,751. Which is a 38.86% infection rate for its population?
NOTE: In the last 2 weeks the USA has had over 120k new C-19-23 cases and 1,420 new deaths.

Well, the National Institutes of Health is seeking volunteers for a study into the effects of castration on the human body because, well, the effects of removing testicles "has not been extensively studied." How much are they paying? I haven't used mine in years.
Not that any studies are needed, you understand. We already know through the processes of reading tea leaves and the entrails of sacrificed animals that lopping off healthy body parts does a body good, but just in case there might be a detail or two, such as cardiovascular problems, the NIH thinks doing a study might be a good idea.
Studies are kinda fun, you know. And you might just get a free castration!
The National Institutes of Health is funding a study via a women’s health grant that is recruiting people as young as 18 to uncover what it acknowledges as the "unknown" cardiovascular effects of surgically removing testicles on patients diagnosed with gender dysphoria.
The observational study is looking for 30 gender diverse biological male participants who are interested in the orchiectomy procedure, which has also been referred to as "surgical castration" in medical literature.
The chief investigator is Dr. Sean Iwamoto, an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Much more at the link.
