We are asking once again for help
We're getting close to the one year anniversary of the War in Ukraine, and we are nearing one year since we have asked readers and regulars to help.

Fred needs a new PC power supply and other items. PCs and their components' prices are falling so now is the best time for Fred to buy.

There are several ways to contribute;

1) Paypal, link is on the right sidebar. Not the button, but the link just above it.
2) Zelle
3) You can ask for his mail address and mail him some money that way.

Fred has been much more active than before and that is a good thing. Please reward him in some way to keep that going.

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief February 12, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • HAQQANI’S REMARKS IN KHOST MAY BE AT ODDS WITH SUPREME LEADER – The Minister of the Interior, Sirajuddin Haqqani, spoke to a crowd of several thousand after a graduation ceremony at the Manba Al-Jihad Madrasa. His comments were allowed to be recorded and his tone was in stark contrast to addresses by the Supreme Leader. He criticized the regime’s inflexibility and seemed to suggest a change in policies was sorely needed if the country was to emerge from the economic and security crisis. A snippet of his speech can be found HERE.

  • CONFLICTING MESSAGES FROM PAKISTAN REGARDING AFGHAN REFUGEES – Pakistan’s Interior Ministry announced it had named a new special envoy for Afghan Refugee Affairs and called on the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad to discuss a strategy to help ameliorate the Afghan refugee problem in the country. The issue of visas was discussed and the envoy pledged that Afghans would no longer face imprisonment. However, in Punjab, the local government announced it intended to speed up deportations of Afghans in the coming weeks and law enforcement officials in the Province were working on a plan to facilitate this goal. In recent months, Sindh Province witnessed a similar effort to round up unwanted Afghans and deport them.

  • PROMINENT WOMEN’S RIGHTS ACTIVIST KIDNAPPED FROM HOME IN TAKHAR – Parisa Mobarez, the founder of the Takhar Women’s Protest Movement was taken from her home yesterday by unidentified men driving vehicles similar to those in use among the Taliban Security Forces. Her brother was also reportedly taken by the men. Their disposition and whereabouts are currently unknown.

  • UZBEK TALIBAN COMMANDER IN FARYAB DENOUNCES TALIBAN AND RESIGNS – Maulvi Abdul Baqi Omari, a Commander of an Uzbek Taliban unit in the Province has reportedly broken ties with the Taliban and has taken several hundred of his men with him. Omari has complained of bigotry in the Taliban security forces against Panjshiris, Uzbeks, Tajiks, and Hazaras. He is also said to be enraged by the seizure of Uzbek lands and has questioned the competency of the Taliban leadership. He is thought to have gathered his force of over 200 fighters in the Belcherakh Faryab District. This information has yet to be confirmed but would mark the first significant defection from the Taliban for 2023.

  • DIPLOMATIC SQUABBLE IN IRAN OVER TALIBAN AMBASSADORSHIP – The Taliban has reputedly appointed Mohammad Afzal Haqqani as the new Ambassador in Tehran. The resident Ambassador, Abdul Qayum Sulaimani, disputed the appointment and denied Haqqani entry to the Afghan embassy. It is not clear who will lead the Taliban’s diplomatic efforts in Tehran at this time.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Kabul: An attack was carried out on a Taliban checkpoint established at the Maiwand Square traffic circle. 2 Taliban security forces personnel were killed in the attack and 1 was wounded, A group identifying itself as the Islamic National Movement of Afghanistan said its A-024 unit was responsible for the attack, but this information has yet to be confirmed.

NEXT 24 HOURS
  • PUNJAB GOVERNMENT THREATENING AFGHAN REFUGEES WITH DEPORTATION – Law enforcement officials say they plan to act on the Provincial government’s edicts to speed up deportations of Afghan refugees who do not possess passports. The move is seen as a means of consoling Punjabi residents who blame Afghans for the increase in street crime and for the rise in terrorist attacks. The plan has not been made public and seems to be at odds with the government in Islamabad which signaled they were working on longer-term solutions for the Afghan refugees in Pakistan. If the Punjab government’s threats are credible, we expect to see searches of hotels, guest houses, and apartment complexes frequented by Afghans in the coming days.

  • REPORTS OF HARASSMENT AND BRIBERY AT SPIN BOLDAK-CHAMAN ON THE RISE – Several Pakistani and Afghan travelers who habitually use the crossing were interviewed by several news outlets and claim they to have witnessed increased harassment of Afghans (and some Pakistani nationals) by the security forces of Pakistan recently. The reports indicated that travelers are often made to wait for several hours in order to force a bribe payment, some people were beaten before paying a bribe, and others are turned back for no reason. Spin Boldak-Chaman continues to be one of the more difficult crossing points and we are advising at-risk Afghans to use the Torkham Gate if at all possible.

Mogadishu hit by an explosion amidst tight security
[ShabelleMedia] A police officer said a kaboom rocked Mogadishu on Saturday evening as government beefs up security.

The official who didn’t want to be published said the blast happened in the vicinity of Hodon District, mainly in the busy Haji Basto after the Isha prayers.

"As we speak now, I can confirm a kaboom happened in Hodon District. Initial information indicates it was caused by an IED," he added.

It is an IED blast, according to thepolicesource. No one was killed or maimed, per our information.

Somalia army base comes under Car bomb and gun attack
[ShabelleMedia] al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
launched an assault involving boom-mobiles on a main military base in Southern Somalia on Saturday morning.

The attack near Afmadow, a border town started with two boom-mobile explosions followed by direct attack from armed snuffies who stormed the base, according to the eyewitnesses.

Confirming the incident, an official said the base camp was housing Somali army and Jubaland regional soldiers at the time of the raid by al-Shabaab.

The troops fended off the terrorist attack and killed the al-Shabaab button men, said the official who spoke to Radio Shabelle by phone on condition of anonymity.

The details of the casualties remain murky as the situation still in confusion with no comments from local authorities on the attack.

The attackers came by car and swept into the outpost after the blasts at the entrance.

The reports suggest that al-Shabaab carried out the attack to distrupt an impending military operation against it in Afmadow on Somalia’s border with Kenya.

The group faced defeat in the central regions after being elected from main strongholds, including Harardhere within Galmudug

Southern Yemeni separatists transfer weapons from Aden to Dhalea and Yafea
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia leaders started on Friday transferring large quantities of weapons from the city of Aden, which is under the control of Saudi-led coalition, southern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, political sources said.

The sources confirmed that the STC militia began during the past hours to transfer the weapons from Aden towards the areas of Dhalea and Yafea.

According the source, the move came in anticipation of a reversal of the situation in Aden in favor of the Saudi forces or the so-called "the homeland shield", which were formed from the Salafist and al-Qaeda groups.

The process of transferring weapons from Aden by the STC leaders, came after the Saudi military delegation requested handing over the STC camps and counting the militia’s heavy weapons to withdraw them.

Guns drawn, guards spirit away Israeli envoy to Spain as BDS activists crash lecture
[IsraelTimes] Video shows protesters trying to enter room where Rodica Radian-Gordon was being guarded, as member of security detail points pistol at them; she later finishes her talk

Israel’s envoy to Spain was spirited to safety by armed guards this week after a group of pro-BDS
... the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, more formally the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC). Its membership includes Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, groups listed as terrorist organizations by the U.S. Founded by Omar Barghouti as an improvement over his previous project, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, as an international effort to pressure Israel after the Intifada failed, it garnered Mr. Barghouti the Gandhi Peace Award for the economic and social ghettoization of any who dare support Israel’s existence...
activist muppets interrupted a speech she was giving at a university in Madrid.

The disturbance occurred Wednesday as Israeli Ambassador Rodica Radian-Gordon spoke at Complutense University of Madrid to mark 30 years since the signing of the Oslo Accords between Israel and the Paleostinians. After the demonstrators broke into the lecture hall, she was escorted to another room by security, which Hebrew media reports said included both Israeli and local guards.

In video from the university, the activist muppets can be seen running toward the room where the ambassador was, as one of the guards at the door draws a pistol and points it toward them. He then enters the room as other members of the security detail block the raucous protesters, who proceed to chant and wave Paleostinian flags outside.

The protesters were later dispersed by police, and Radian-Gordon resumed her address.

In a video statement, the ambassador vowed to continue speaking with students at Spanish universities, "even after the violent mostly peaceful incident."

The Foreign Ministry released a statement saying it was "shocked by the violence of the anti-Israel protesters."

"We thank the dean for determinedly and bravely leading an open and balanced academic discussion," it said.

According to the statement, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen called the ambassador Wednesday evening to laud her for "her stand against the extreme anti-Israel protesters... despite the shocking attempt to violent mostly peacefully prevent [the lecture]."

The incident came the same day that Barcelona’s mayor announced the city was suspending ties with Israel and its twinning with Tel Aviv, accusing Israel of rights abuses against Paleostinians. The next day, Madrid’s mayor offered to twin the Israeli coastal city instead, as he denounced Barcelona’s move as having a "significant stench of antisemitism."

NIA raids in Bengaluru, Mumbai against suspected Islamic State operatives
[OneIndia] The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted raids in Mumbai and Bengaluru against suspects linked to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and al-Qaeda.

The raids are in connection with a case related to the conspiracy hatched by the accused to spread terror activities in the country.

NIA raids in Bengaluru, Mumbai against suspected Islamic State operatives
During the searches the NIA found incriminating material such documents and digital devices. A few suspects have been picked up for questioning.

Last month the NIA had carried out searches in six locations in Karnataka and arrested two persons in connection with the Shivamogga Islamic State case. The searches were conducted in Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Davanagere and Bengaluru. The persons arrested were identified as Reshaan Sheikh from Varamballi in Brahmavar, Udui. And Husair Farhan Baig from Shivamogga in Karnataka.

The probe revealed that Maaz Muneer had radicalised his close aide and college mate, Reeshan and both had received funds from their Islamic State handler through crypto-wallets.

As part of their large and violent mostly peaceful agenda, they had also indulged in arson and targeting of vehicles and establishments, such as liquor shops, godowns and power transformers, the agencies said.

Earlier the NIA and the Internal Security Department (ISD) picked up one Arif for questioning in connection with an al-Qaeda case. The agencies have been keeping a tab on his activities for two years, before they went to his resident in Thanisandra in Bengaluru and picked him for questioning. It was found that he was having conversations with his handlers through chat platforms.

During a raid of his residence, the agencies confiscated documents and electronic equipment. The probe revealed that Arif was in touch with al-Qaeda operatives for nearly two years. He also communicated with his handlers through the dark web. The agency is currently questioning him and also are ascertaining his financial sources.

Arif is a techie from Uttar Pradesh and was working at a private firm in Bengaluru. The agencies learnt that he was working from home.

The agencies have of late been cracking down on scores of modules after Intelligence inputs suggested the possibility of the Islamic State unleashing lone-wolf attacks in the country. The Islamic State has been urging the bandidos Death Eaters to strike at Hindu Temples and attack Hindus.

The alert levels have also been high as there are possibilities of the Popular Front of India (PFI) trying to recoup.

Palestinian man said shot dead by settlers in West Bank
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian man was rubbed out by Israeli settlers in the West Bank on Saturday, Paleostinian health officials and rights groups said. The Israeli army said it was aware of the case and said soldiers were not involved in the fatal shooting.

In a statement, the chairman of the Samaria Regional Council Yossi Dagan said he "fully supports" the settler who "opened fire in the air" to protect the group of Israelis.

According to the council, some 25 settlers of the illegal outpost went hiking in the area on Saturday morning, when they were allegedly attacked by Paleostinians.

"Dozens of Paleostinians approached the hikers throwing stones and [launching] fireworks at them," the statement said. "Due to a fear for the lives of the hikers, one of the residents had gun sex," it added.

"I fully support the citizen who defended his life and the lives of the hikers. The resident who opened fire acted correctly when he defended his life from a rioting and rampaging mob of terrorists," Dagan said.

According to the Yesh Din rights group, "a large group" of armed settlers who arrived from the illegal Havat Yair (Yair Farm) outpost attacked Paleostinians on the outskirts of the nearby town of Qarawat Bani Hassan, for unclear reasons.

The Paleostinian Health Ministry said one of the men, 27-year-old Mithkal Abd al-Halim Rayan, was fatally shot in the head.

A spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces told The Times of Israel that troops were called to the scene following reports of festivities between settlers and Paleostinians, adding that soldiers were not involved in the gunfire that killed the man.

"IDF forces arrived and responded with riot dispersal means and shooting in the air," following the "violent mostly peaceful friction between dozens of Paleostinians and Israeli citizens," the military said in a later statement.

The IDF said that it was aware of a Paleostinian being reportedly shot by settlers and taken to a hospital, before troops had arrived at the scene.

A police spokeswoman told The Times of Israel that it had launched an investigation into the case, but could not confirm the reports as officers had not yet inspected the body or questioned any suspects allegedly involved.

Footage from the scene showed Paleostinians dragging Rayan into a car after he was shot.

Iron Dome intercepts rocket launched from Gaza at southern Israel
[IsraelTimes] Sirens sound in Kibbutz Nahal Oz; no damage or injuries reported in 2nd rocket attack this month

A rocket launched from the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip at southern Israel on Saturday evening was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system, the military said.

Incoming rocket sirens sounded in the southern town of Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

Local residents said they heard a large explosion and saw an Iron Dome air defense system missile being launched.

The Israel Defense Forces said the single rocket was downed by the air defense system.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage following the attack.

The rocket fire came amid heightened tensions in the region.

The last time a rocket was fired from the coastal enclave toward Israel was on February 1, apparently in response to a crackdown by the Israel Prison Service (IPS) against Paleostinian inmates in Israeli jails. Gazooks then fired several more rockets toward southern Israel as Israeli Air Force warplanes carried out sorties in the Gaza Strip in response the next morning.

Tensions have been high as the IDF has pressed on with an anti-terror offensive mostly focused on the northern West Bank to deal with a series of attacks that have left 31 people in Israel dead in 2022, and another ten since the beginning of the year.

Three Israelis, including two brothers aged six and eight, were killed in a car-ramming attack Friday. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said he instructed police to prepare for a major operation in East Jerusalem starting Sunday following the attack.

The IDF’s operation has netted more than 2,500 arrests in near-nightly raids. It also left 171 Paleostinians dead in 2022, and another 43 since the beginning of the year, many of them while carrying out attacks or during festivities with security forces, though some were uninvolved civilians.

There has also been a rise in Dire Revenge attacks by Israelis against Paleostinians following the two terror attacks.

The military was expected to respond to the rocket attack on Saturday.

ISIS militants, disguised in the government forces' uniform, kill a government soldier in Syria's Deir ez-Zor
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

On Friday, Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) murderous Moslems raided the house of a soldier of the Syrian government forces and killed him in front of his family’s eyes in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source from the government forces said ISIS Lions of Islam raided the house of Ali Jaber, 30, a member in the 4th Armored Division of the government forces, who lives on the outskirts of the town of al-Sukaria in the countryside of Abu Kamal in eastern Deir ez-Zor.

The murderous Moslems were disguised in the government forces’ uniform. They fatally shot al-Jaber several times after investigating him inside his house and in front of the eyes of his family, the source added.

Syrian government forces and Iran-backed militias control vast swathes of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which witnesses intensified activities by ISIS sleeper cells.

On Friday, Ma’yuf al-Ali, a member of the government forces, was killed by unidentified button men near his house in the town of Se’alow in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
