[HODHODYEMENNEWS] Tigray regional forces begun handing in their heavy weapons, a key part of an agreement signed more than two months ago to end a deadly conflict in northern Æthiopia, a front man for the rebel authorities said.
According to AFP, Getachew Reda, the rebel front man, said that "the Tigray region handed over its heavy weapons as part of its commitment to implement the Pretoria Agreement" signed on November 2 between the federal government and the rebels.
"We hope and expect this will go a long way in expediting the full implementation of the agreement. We hope and expect!"
The agreement provides for the disarmament of rebel forces, the re-establishment of federal authority in Tigray and the reopening of access and communications to the region, which has been cut off from the world since mid-2021.
The fighting began in November 2020, when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed sent the army to arrest Tigrayan leaders who had been challenging his authority for months and whom he accused of attacking federal military bases.

It says it is waiting for a federal constitution for Somalia to be completed. The announcement comes amid tensions between Somalia's federal president elected last May, Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, and Puntland's president, Said Abdullahi Deni, who was defeated in the last presidential election.
From the outset, the Puntland government's communiqué emphasized its commitment to Somalia. Signing its three-page justification as the "Puntland Government of Somalia," it recalls its "efforts over the past 18 years" to "lay the foundation for building the federal system" and its "financial and military" support for successive governments in Mogadishu.
Tensions have been growing in recent months between Mogadishu and Puntland over the distribution of political, judicial and security powers, the use of the ports of Bossaso and Berbera and natural resources, and the right to enter into foreign partnerships, especially for oil development.
Recent meetings between the two heads of state, according to their entourage, did not go well.
Since last summer, the president of the government in Mogadishu has been making more and more decisions in the name of a Somali federation that has yet to be built, which the authorities in Garowe have perceived as a dirigiste temptation on the part of the federal authorities.

The charity accused the UK government of ignoring an identifiable "pattern of harm" caused by the indiscriminate bombing — and argues it amounts to legal grounds for Britannia to end elements of its lucrative arms trade with Riyadh.
Martin Butcher, a policy adviser at Oxfam, said that there had been 431 airstrikes in the period monitored, roughly one a day, and that the "intensity of these attacks would not have been possible without a ready supply of arms."
The sheer number of attacks, the 87 civilians killed and 136 maimed amounted to, Butcher added, "a pattern of violence against civilians" which all parties to the conflict, including arms suppliers, had failed to prevent.
A further 13 airstrikes carried out by British or American-made jets had taken place on hospitals and clinics, the Oxfam research added, with farms and homes routinely hit. Civilians were forced to leave their homes or places of shelter after a total of 293 raids from the air.
According to the charity, "The Saudi air force uses Typhoon and Tornado aircraft sold and maintained by Britannia and F-15s from the US."
Some of the bombs used, such as the Paveway IV, are made in the UK — and the Campaign Against Arms Trade [CAAT] estimates that the total value of UK arms sales to Saudi since it began its aggression on Yemen war in 2015 to be £23bn.

[Breitbart] Police in Gay Paree have arrested a suspected Libyan national Wednesday after allegedly stabbing six people at the Gare du Nord railway station, with some witnesses claiming the man yelled "Allahu Akbar" at the time.
The 31-year-old, who initially claimed to be Algerian but Sherlocks believe may be from Libya, allegedly carried out the mass stabbing attack at around 6:45 am on Wednesday morning in the 10th arrondissement of Gay Paree, at a peak time for travel.
Witnesses claim that during the attack the 31-year-old, identified as Mohammed Amine M., yelled "Allahu Akbar", a commonly used phrase by Islamist holy warriors and other radical Islamic attackers that is typically translated in the West as "God is great". Yet, a more accurate translation would be "Allah is greater," or "Allah is greater than your God or government."
Despite the witness accounts, local police say they are still looking to confirm whether or not the phrase was yelled by the migrant, broadcaster Europe1 reports.
The Gay Paree prosecutor’s office has stated that of the six people stabbed, five were only lightly maimed, while the sixth victim is said to have been seriously injured as a result of the attack.
According to Sherlocks, the man, who was initially thought to be Algerian, is likely from Libya and gave false information following his arrest. While police believe he may be from Libya, his fingerprints returned matches for five different identities.

The police who intervened were off-duty officers in plain clothes who used their service weapons to stop the attack, he said. The police officers “were returning from duty at police headquarters to take their train and go home, but they were armed”, Darmanin said. A German woman went on trial Wednesday accused of aiding and abetting war crimes and genocide with the ISIS terrorist group in Syria by “enslaving” a Yazidi woman.
The 37-year-old defendant, identified only as Nadine K., is also facing charges of crimes against humanity and membership of a foreign terrorist organization before a court in the southwestern city of Koblenz.
Federal prosecutors say Nadine K. travelled with her husband in December 2014 from Germany to the ISIS-controlled part of Syria where they joined the terrorist group.
Months later the couple and their daughter settled in the Iraqi city of Mosul, the former “capital” proclaimed by ISIS, where they allegedly hoarded weapons and established a hostel providing room and board for “single female members” of ISIS.
“From early 2016, Nadine K. and her husband kept a Yazidi woman as a slave,” prosecutors said when she was charged in September. “The man raped and beat the woman regularly, which Nadine K. knew.”
They said Nadine K. kept watch to prevent the woman, who was 22 at the time, from fleeing and forced her to do housework and care for children while observing Islamic rituals.
“All of this served the declared purpose of ISIS, to wipe out the Yazidi faith,” prosecutors said.
Nadine K. and her family are believed to have moved to Syria in autumn 2016 with their “slave” and lived in ISIS-controlled territory until March 2019, when they were believed to have been arrested by Kurdish fighters and the Yazidi woman released.
The defendant was arrested last March upon her return to Germany in one of several repatriation operations.
A German court in November 2021 issued the first ruling worldwide to recognize crimes against the Yazidi community as genocide, in a verdict hailed by activists as a “historic” win for the minority.
The Kurdish-speaking Yazidis hailing from northern Iraq have for years been persecuted by ISIS militants who have killed hundreds of men, raped women and forcibly recruited children as fighters.
Last May, a German woman who joined ISIS in Syria as a teenager was handed a two-year suspended prison sentence but cleared by a court in Naumburg, central Germany, of aiding and abetting crimes against humanity.

34, repeatedly proclaimed his support for ISIS after the attack, including to an FBI agent who is set to testify at his terrorism trial in Manhattan federal court, Assistant US Attorney Alexander Li told jurors in his opening statement.
"He smiled at the memory of his attack and asked for an ISIS flag to hang in his hospital room," Li said, adding Saipov was eager to speak with the FBI and provide a "proud confession."
The prosecutor described the horror that unfolded that Halloween afternoon when Saipov, an immigrant from Uzbekistan, indiscriminately mowed down pedestrians and cyclists after mounting the bike path from the West Side Highway in a rented truck.
Prosecutors allege Saipov started following ISIS three years prior to the attack, and carried it out in order to become a "soldier" in the failed caliphate.
Evidence at the trial, which is expected to take a number of months, will show Saipov publicly expressed his devotion to the terror group, Li told jurors.
He did so in the smiling statement he gave to an FBI investigator, in phone calls with his family from prison and even statements he made during court appearances after his arrest.
After running down his victims at speeds that reached above 60 miles per hour, Saipov crashed the truck into a school bus, which was carrying two children, Li said.
One of the children suffered "serious brain damage" and another passenger suffered broken ribs and an injury to her liver, Li added.
Saipov then emerged from the mangled truck and pointed a pellett gun and a paintball gun at a responding police officer, who shot him, ending the rampage.
Saipov allegedly killed a total of eight people, including five tourists visiting from Argentina ...a country located on the other side of the Deep South. It is covered with Pampers and inhabited by Grouchos, who dance the Tangle. They used to have some islands called the Malvinas located where the Falklands are now. They're not supposed to cry for Evita... who were pedaling along the bike path that day.
He faces 28 counts for the terror attack and will face the death penalty if convicted. The jury will have to vote unanimously to sentence him to death.
Saipov’s defense attorney, David Patton, told jurors that they would not challenge the allegation that he carried out the attack.
"There will be no question about who did this. Safyfillo Saipov did," he told jurors.
Patton added, however, that the first phase of the trial will not hinge on his guilt to the murders, rather his motive for committing them.
Prosecutors told jurors that Saipov carried out the attack because he wanted to become a full-fledged member — or soldier — for ISIS.
"You will find that this is wrong. That is not why he did this," Patton told jurors.
The attorney continued that while Saipov had become engrossed in ISIS propaganda and wanted to carry out the attack as a mujahideen, or warrior for radical Islam, he did not expect to be received into ISIS after the action.
"He expected to die. He expected he would become a martyr," Patton said.
[NYPost] Radicalized Maine teenager Trevor Bickford was hit with federal charges on Tuesday for allegedly attacking three NYPD officers on New Year’s Eve, the Justice Department said.
Bickford, 19, was charged with three counts of attempted murder of officers and employees of the US government and persons assisting them after he lunged at the three cops with a machete in a bid wage jihad in the Times Square attack, federal prosecutors said.
The federal indictment comes on top of the avalanche of local charges Bickford faces after he was indicted Friday on 18 criminal counts including three first-degree attempted murder charges.
The cops were all injured in the attack, but have since been released from the hospital.
Bickford told authorities he intended to die in the attack so he could be a martyr, and believes he was unsuccessful because he didn’t kill any of the cops and didn’t die himself, according to the feds.
He walked around Times Square figuring out the right time to strike and even began to recite verses from the Koran to "hype himself up" leading up to the attack, the criminal complaint stated.
"Trevor Bickford allegedly targeted the iconic yearly celebration to carry out a brazen act of violence and hatred in the name of jihad," Damian Williams, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a statement. "Bickford’s alleged attack in one of the most visited destinations in the world on its busiest night of the year ironically only served to spotlight the coordination, resolve, and dedication of American law enforcement to guard the wellbeing of the public."
Bickford began to consume materials that preached radical Islamic ideology, including materials promoted by the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... and tied to the teachings of prominent radical Islamic holy man Abu Muhammad al-Maqdisi, who was a spiritual mentor of al Qaeda, according to the feds.
By November, Bickford planned to travel to the Middle East to support the Taliban, and even told a family member he could be a jacket wallah, but later decided to wage his war in the US when he traveled to the Big Apple, prosecutors alleged.
At around 10:10 p.m. on the last night of 2022, Bickford approached the trio of cops and yelled "Allahu Akbar," which in Arabic means "God is great" before he stabbed and struck the officers in the head, the US Attorney’s Office said.
He was finally stopped when one of the cops shot and maimed him, according to authorities.
One of the items found on Bickford was a book by al-Maqdisi that encourages followers to wage jihad against disbelievers, and to use swords on the heads of them, according to federal prosecutors. In his journal that was recovered, an entry on Dec. 31 states, "this will likely be my last entry," the complaint stated.
Bickford, who is currently in state custody, will appear in Manhattan federal court at a later date.
"We are deeply grateful for the bravery of the officers who were maimed in this horrible attack and who put their lives on the line every day to serve their communities," Attorney General Merrick Garland ...Attorney General of the U.S., who classifies indignant parents as domestic terrorists. "Together with our law enforcement partners at every level of government, the Justice Department will continue to work to disrupt, investigate, and prosecute those who target and attack law enforcement and endanger the American people."
The four federal charges each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, according to the statement.
Last week prosecutors told a state court that Bickford also stated that "all government officials" were a target for him "as they cannot be proper Moslems because the United States government supports Israel."

this resurgence is a serious blow as their activities have increased after the peace talks failed. Thousands of people erupted into the streets in various parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to protest against return of TTP terrorist, especially in Swat. The hostage situation in the Bannu Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) compound has raised many questions. Apparently, the CTD officials were not ready nor were they trained to react to such a situation. Salute to courage and valor of the SSG troops who cleared the CTD building, and resultantly 25 bad boyz were potted and 10 were arrested.
The big question is, who is funding and supporting TTP? Again, hostile elements are out to support TTP in order to destabilize Pakistain. The aim is to create fear and panic through banned terror outfits. They have found safe heavens in Afghanistan and have acquired sophisticated weapons left by the US. The most unfortunate part is that Kabul is not cooperating with Pakistain on TTP and border issue. The murderous Moslems and their safe heavens must be eliminated in all forms and the writ of state has to be established at all costs. The hard-earned peace after the loss of thousands of lives and destruction of properties must not be sacrificed.

With broad support from over 70 politicians, legislation that will revoke the citizenship or residency of convicted bully boyz who are remunerated by the Paleostinian Authority cleared its preliminary reading on the Knesset floor on Wednesday.
The bill applies to both Israeli citizens and permanent residents incarcerated following a terror conviction. The Paleostinian Authority regularly pays stipends to convicted terrorists, and the bill also applies to organizations that pay out on the PA’s behalf.
Notching a rare reprieve from coalition-opposition acrimony, centrist and right-wing opposition politicians joined coalition MKs to submit seven similar citizenship revocation bills, which will be whittled done to a unified proposal in the committee review process.
The first of four votes necessary before becoming a law, the preliminary reading followed the release last week of Karim Younis, Israel’s longest-serving terror convict, after 40 years of imprisonment.
Likud MK Ofir Katz, who presented the leading bill proposal, tied the initiative to stopping the veneration of bully boyz as heroes among Arab Israelis. Younis, who killed IDF soldier Avraham Bromberg in 1980, was feted in his hometown of ’Ara.

The Panama Canal is not very wide. It is not as important as the Suez economically.
I did a Unitas cruise years ago. The South American navies are small.
A single or a couple of Iranian frigates are not much with regard to power projection. They will just run to port if real hostilities break out in Hormuz. If they make it to port, it will be because someone in DC said no.

Speaking at the first national conference on maritime civilization in Konarak on Wednesday, Commander of IRI Navy Rear Admiral Shahram Irani called for a more powerful presence of the navy fleets in international waters, including the Panama Canal.
The Panama Canal is an artificial 82 km waterway in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean and divides North and South America.
The maritime capacities should be utilized to pave the way for materializing the Islamic-Iranian civilization, he said, noting that his forces are showcasing manifestations of Iran’s might.
The IRI Navy vessels have succeeded in being present in the Pacific Ocean for the first time in Iran’s history, he said, explaining that Australia and La Belle France made some threats against Iranians to break the regulations they themselves have issued but the Iranians stood firm in the face of such threats.
Irani went on to say that the Iranians started shipping prior to other states in particular the Europeans, so Iran should revitalize the might in this respect.
As the Lord High Potentate and Supreme Leader of All He Surveys of the Islamic Revolution stated, the IRI Navy is in fact a strategic force, he said, mentioning that the navy is present in different areas and plays an effective role at the international level

[IsraelTimes] Unnamed intelligence source tells Newsweek that Israel has struck at least seven targets related to the network over the past two years, and killed 10 Iranians
Iran ...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979... has invested millions of dollars in an effort to ramp up the deployment of an advanced air defense network in Syria, amid repeated attempts by Israel to target Iranian sites and shipments of weapons to its regional proxies, according to a Tuesday report.
Citing an unnamed intelligence source from a nation allied with the United States, Newsweek reported that Iran over the past two years has been "promoting the deployment of aerial defense capabilities on its behalf in Syria at a cost of tens of millions of dollars in order to deal with the Israeli Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s."
The source said the deputy commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Aerospace Force, Brig. Gen. Fereydoun Mohammadi Saghaei, is leading the air defense project.
Israel has staged hundreds of strikes on targets in Syria over the years but rarely acknowledges or discusses specific operations. It says it targets bases of Iran and allied militias, such as Lebanon Hezbollahstan ...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady days of human sacrifice to Baal Moloch... ’s Hezbollah group that has fighters deployed in Syria, as well as arms shipments believed to be bound for various proxies, chief among them Hezbollah.
Additionally, airstrikes attributed to Israel have repeatedly targeted Syrian air defense systems.
Military officials have said in the past that Syria has improved its air defense capabilities with upgraded Iranian-made components. In a 2018 strike, Israel reportedly targeted a soon-to-be-deployed Iranian advanced air defense system.
"The promotion of these capabilities is carried out as a project shared with the Syrian army and possibly even with the aim of enabling independent Iranian operation of the aerial defense systems from within parts of Syria," the source told Newsweek.
The report listed several recent airstrikes in Syria against the new Iranian air defense deployment efforts, including strikes in Palmyra and Tartus in October 2021, Latakia in December 2021, Damascus in March 2022, Tartus in July 2022, and two strikes in Homs in November and December 2022.
The source said that Iran has been working to deploy the Bavar-373 surface-to-air missile system with the Sayyad 4B solid-fuel missile to Syria. Iranian officials say the system paired with the missile has a range of around 300 kilometers and is capable of shooting down fifth-generation fighter aircraft, such as Israel’s advanced F-35I fighters.
"In addition, the Iranians assisted the Syrians in upgrading their radar array, designed to aid in detection and prevention of Israeli attacks mainly against the Iranian establishment in Syria," the source added to the magazine.
The source also said that at least 10 Iranians involved in the air defense efforts in Syria had been killed by Israel in recent years.
Iran has acknowledged some of them, and vowed Dire Revenge.
IRGC officers Ehsan Karbalaipour and Morteza Saidnejad, killed in an attack on Damascus in March 2022, were identified by various reports as air defense engineers; and Col. Davoud Jafari, an adviser from the IRGC’s aerospace division, was killed by a roadside kaboom near the Syrian capital in November 2022.
