Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief December 24, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • COUP RUMORS PERSIST – Several news outlets have picked up on reports of a possible challenge to the Supreme Leader’s power. Some reports coming from Pakistan have stated that ISI officials have arrived in Kandahar to attempt to facilitate some kind of settlement between the Supreme Leader and the Minister of Defense and Interior. What has been confirmed is that both Ministers are traveling to Kandahar to attempt to persuade the Supreme Leader to change his mind about the women’s education issue. Kandahar also has a sizable presence of military personnel and vehicles in the city which could be indicative of a potential power struggle brewing or, it could simply be a precautionary measure to deal with possible protests. Regardless of the reason for the troop dispositions, it’s clear there is a leadership problem at the top of the regime.

  • MOSQUE BOMBING – A blast was reported at a Mosque yesterday in the Koht-e-Sangi neighborhood of Kabul. Casualties have been reported (both deaths and injuries). No group has claimed credit and no details were available.

  • TALIBAN SECURITY PATROLLING MOST CITIES – Taliban fighters have taken up positions around many of the University campuses in Afghanistan in a bid to discourage potential protests against the unpopular education decree. Scattered reports of protestors being beaten and arrested but the information is sparse at this point.

  • PAKISTAN CLEARLY ENUNCIATES A ‘RED LINE’ TO THE IEA – Pakistan basically issued an ultimatum to Kabul concerning its perceived support of the TTP. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari left little room for doubt about what would happen if Afghanistan does not help stop the threat to Pakistan posed by the TTP.

  • FUEL PRICES SPIKE ACROSS THE COUNTRY – Prices per liter of fuel rose by approximately 6 Afghanis over the last couple of days. The increase places significant strain on the transportation sector as taxi drivers are not able to make a profit under the current circumstances. The cause for the price surge has been attributed to the devastating Salang Tunnel fire which destroyed several fuel tankers and disrupted fuel imports from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

NEXT 24 HOURS
ALL EYES ARE ON KANDAHAR – With a meeting between senior Taliban leaders in Kandahar about to take place, many are concerned the discussions could break down and violence could result. In addition, the extra security called in to deal with potential protests has the country on edge. While the situation is in doubt, it is recommended that travel plans be canceled until the picture becomes clearer.

[ShabelleMedia] The Somali National Army (SNA) on Thursday recaptured a town in the southern region of Middle Shabelle that was under the control of al-Shabaab

Abdullahi Ali Anod, Somalia’s defense ministry front man, said at a media briefing in the Somali capital of Mogadishu that the government forces faced minimal resistance from al-Shabaab when they recaptured the town.

"The SNA, with the support of local militia, took control of Runirgod district in Middle Shabelle region at dawn. al-Shabaab gunnies have already fled as the forces intensify operations to get rid of all murderous Moslems," Anod said.

He said more than 150 al-Shabaab bad boys, including five foreigners, were killed and 15 others arrested during a week-long military offensive, adding that efforts to liberate other regions in south-central Somalia from the al-Qaeda-linked group will be intensified.

The latest move came after the first batch of Somali troops trained in Eritrea

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] Five police officers were injured during clashes with Kurds after shooting in Paris, BFMTV reports , citing a source in law enforcement agencies. "Representatives of the Kurds began to throw incendiary mixtures in the direction of law enforcement forces. Five policemen were injured, one detention took place," the report says.

Representatives of the Kurdish community earlier organized a spontaneous rally near the site of the emergency and began chanting anti-Turkish slogans, accusing Ankara of being involved in the incident. Later, the action escalated into clashes with the police, who used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. Nevertheless, the clashes intensified.
"organized a spontaneous rally" sounds a bit...contradictory
As a RIA Novosti correspondent reported, the protesters began to riot, burn garbage cans, throw stones and bottles at the police. In response, the security forces repeatedly used tear gas, and then stun grenades.

On Friday, a 69-year-old man opened fire on a street in the 10th arrondissement of Paris . He was detained, the motives of the crime are still unknown. According to Agence France-Presse, the attacker is French by nationality, he is known to the police for two assassination attempts committed in 2016 and 2021.

FRENCH INTERIOR MINISTER SAYS PARIS SHOOTER ACTED ALONE
According to the latest data, three people died during the shooting - two men and one woman - belonged to the Kurdish community, two of the victims are in serious condition, two more are in a moderate condition. The Paris prosecutor's office opened an investigation into the case of intentional murder.

It is reported that in 2021, the man who opened fire was already detained for attacking a migrant center in the 12th arrondissement of the French capital, where he wounded two people. He was released pending trial 11 days before today's attack. According to BFMTV, the shooter belongs to a sports shooting club and was banned from carrying weapons for five years.

The police are now conducting searches at the home of the attacker.
Rudaw adds:
Ibrahim Saydo Aydogan is an eyewitness. He told Rudaw on the phone that when he arrived at the incident area the suspect had been arrested.

The Kurdish man also said that the suspect was first arrested by Kurdish men then handed over to the police.

Regarding the victims, Aydogan said they are all "activist muppets of the Kurdish cause." He identified two of the dead as Aveen and Mir Parwar.

All the victims are originally from Kurdish areas of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
(Northern Kurdistan), according to the eyewitness.

Islamabad car bombing kills one

Khaama Press gives us the details:
Being pursued by police, suspected snuffies blew themselves up in Islamabad the capital city of Pakistain on Friday, killing one officer and injuring several others.

"A suspected man and a woman in the car did not stop at the police checkpoint," Islamabad operations police chief, Sohail Zafar, said. The suspects were chased by the police as they blew up the car. The suicide kaboom leaves four coppers and two civilians injured.

The interior ministry in a statement said the car was packed with explosives and headed for a high-value target in the capital, had the car reached its destination. The capital was already on high alert due to threats of such an attack, the minister said.

Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pak [TTP] claimed the responsibility, calling it Dire Revenge for the killing of one of their leaders.

Following the year-long ceasefire, the TTP called off its peace treaty with the Pak government and started targeting the country’s army, police and security units. The security situation in Pakistain has tanked over the past weeks. Not long ago, terror attacks took place in Quetta killing and injuring several people.

Similarly, today’s suicide kaboom in the heart of Islamabad creates chaos and tension among the people, and the possibility of further deterioration of the security situation in this country.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad gunmen fire at settlement, causing damage to home
[IsraelTimes] Military hunts for suspects in latest attack against Shaked, 10 kilometers west of Jenin in northern West Bank

Paleostinian button men fired a hail of bullets Friday evening at a settlement in the northern West Bank, the military said.

Images from the scene showed slight damage caused to a home in the settlement of Shaked, which is located close to the security barrier, about 10 kilometers west of the Paleostinian city of Jenin.

The Israel Defense Forces said one home was damaged by the shooting, which caused no injuries.

The IDF said troops were dispatched to the area to search for the suspects, who expeditiously departed at a goodly pace. The bullets were fired from outside the settlement.

The settlement has recently been targeted several times.

Israeli Mossad spymaster Rafi Eitan reveals his exploits - review
[JP] The late Rafi Eitan was — as the title Capturing Eichmann: The Memoir of a Mossad Spymaster suggests — an intelligence operative, a maverick with a finger in many pies.

Working on this account until a few days before his death in 2019, this posthumous publication relates many fascinating episodes in his life: how he killed two German Templars who wanted to return to their farms in British-controlled Palestine after World War II; suggested to David Ben-Gurion about the stuffing of ballot boxes with fake votes during the 1955 election; and worked with SS Obersturmbannfuhrer Otto Skorzeny, who had released Benito Mussolini from captivity in 1943 and supported the fascist Arrow Cross in Hungary. He comments that in the course of his work, he had "no hesitation about employing Nazis to ensure the security of Israel."

Eitan’s odyssey is a mirror image of the history of the state.
His father fought in Trotsky’s Red Army, while he himself was a member of the Palmah, operating against Fawzi al-Qawuqji and participating in the Battle of Malikiya during the War of Independence. Eitan was involved in the arrests of Aharon Cohen, Kurt Sitte and Israel Beer, all accused of being engaged in Soviet espionage. He believed that the Americans were fighting "a futile war" in Vietnam and attempted to explore contacts with the Chinese leadership through the good offices of Morris Cohen, a one-time consultant to Mao’s intelligence services and representative of British companies in China. He came to know Markus Wolf, the partly Jewish head of the Stasi in Communist East Germany, and regarded president Jimmy Carter’s unwillingness to intervene in Iran to stop the ascent of Ayatollah Khomeini’s Islamists as "one of the most serious and tragic mistakes since World War II."

Nablus, the new hotspot: Palestinian casualties and arrests follow multiple clashes with IDF on multiple days this week
Hamas ‘fighter’ killed during armed clash with IDF in Nablus

[IsraelTimes] 5 other Paleostinians maimed in exchanges of fire as military enters northern West Bank city to secure Joseph’s Tomb for Jewish pilgrimage

A member of the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, terror group was killed as Israeli troops clashed with Paleostinian button men in the northern West Bank early Thursday.

Ahmed Atef Mustafa Daraghmeh was mortally maimed when armed Paleostinians exchanged fire with Israeli troops that entered the city of Nablus to escort Jewish worshippers to a site known as the biblical Joseph’s Tomb in the Paleostinian city.

Paleostinian medical officials said another five people were maimed in the clash.

The sound of gunfire was heard in amateur videos that Paleostinians recorded from their windows. Images published by Paleostinian media outlets showed Daraghmeh’s body draped in the flag of Hamas, indicating his affiliation with the terror group.

In a statement later Thursday, Hamas said Daraghmeh was a "fighter" in the group. Daraghmeh, from the nearby town of Tubas, was also reported to be a soccer player for the Tulkarem team, according to Paleostinian media.

The Israel Defense Forces said Paleostinians hurled explosives and shot up troops who entered the city. The forces returned fire and suspects were hit, the IDF added.

The Nablus-based Lion’s Den and a local wing of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
both claimed to have engaged the Israeli forces in the city.

Orthodox Israelis visit Joseph Tomb’s on a monthly basis, if not more frequently, and the pilgrimages almost always spark violent mostly peaceful festivities with Paleostinian locals when the IDF enters Nablus beforehand to secure the area for the arrival of the hardline pilgrims.

The shrine, regarded by some as the final resting place of the biblical patriarch Joseph, is located inside Area A of the West Bank, which is officially under complete PA control, though the Israeli military regularly enters, despite Paleostinian opposition. The IDF bars Israeli citizens from entering Area A without prior authorization, and some criticize the monthly incursions as an unnecessary provocation that places Israeli soldiers at risk.

In recent months, Paleostinian button men have repeatedly targeted military posts, troops operating along the West Bank security barrier, Israeli settlements and civilians on the roads.

The incidents have come amid an Israeli anti-terror offensive mostly focused on the northern West Bank to deal with a series of Paleostinian attacks that have left 31 people dead in Israel and the West Bank since the start of the year.

The operation has netted more than 2,500 arrests in near-nightly raids, but has also left 170 Paleostinians dead, many of them — but not all — while carrying out attacks or during festivities with security forces.

In separate arrest raids early Thursday, troops detained four wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, the military said.

Israeli forces nab Hamas member over northern West Bank shooting attack

[IsraelTimes] Police, Shin Bet say Mujahid al-Talfiti involved in firing at Israeli motorist near Nablus on Friday; 10 detained in overnight raids

Israeli security forces on Wednesday afternoon arrested a member of the Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, terror group suspected of being involved in a shooting attack in the northern West Bank over the weekend, police and the Shin Bet security agency said.

On Friday, Paleostinian button men shot up an Israeli-owned car near the unauthorized outpost of Havat Gilad, south of the West Bank city of Nablus. The Israeli motorist was unharmed in the shooting, but the gunfire — at least four shots — shattered the car’s windows and struck the driver’s headrest.

Border Police troops on Wednesday entered Nablus to arrest Mujahid al-Talfiti, 25, over his alleged involvement in the attack. Two other suspects were arrested over the attack earlier this week.

Paleostinian media reports said al-Talfiti was detained after Israeli forces surrounded a building he was in.

Al-Talfiti had been formerly tossed in the calaboose
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in Israel over various terror activities and his affiliation with the Hamas terror group, according to the Shin Bet.

There were no reports of any major festivities during the raid in Nablus.

The Nablus-based Lion’s Den terror group grabbed credit for the attack but did not provide any evidence.

In separate arrest raids early Wednesday, troops detained 10 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank and seized two makeshift firearms, the military said.

IDF troops come under fire near Nablus; Lion’s Den claims responsibility

[IsraelTimes] Military says soldiers scanning area of shooting in northern West Bank were also shot at; attacks raise concerns Nablus-based terror group re-establishing itself

Israeli troops came under fire in two separate instances near the northern West Bank city of Nablus on Tuesday night, the military said. According to the Israel Defense Forces, Palestinian gunmen first fired at a military post near Nablus, without causing any injuries. The IDF said that during scans in the area following the attack, troops came under fire again. Troops returned fire toward the source of the shooting, the IDF added.

No soldiers were hurt in the second attack either, according to the military.

The Nablus-based Lion’s Den terror group claimed responsibility for both attacks, publishing unclear videos purporting to show the moment of the shootings.

After many senior members of Lion’s Den were killed or arrested by Israel in recent weeks, and others turned themselves in to the Palestinian Authority, Tuesday’s shootings raised concerns that the group was beginning to re-establish itself after a short lull in attacks.

In recent months, Palestinian gunmen, mostly Lion’s Den members, have repeatedly targeted military posts, troops operating along the West Bank security barrier, Israeli settlements and civilians on the roads.

Palestinian killed after carrying out attack on Israeli forces
by Emad Almarshahi

[HODHODYEMENNEWS] One Palestinian was killed at dawn on Friday, after he carried out a car-ramming and shooting attack that led to the injury of two Zionist officers forces in Kfar Qasim city.

Palestinian media sources reported that Young Palestinian man Na’eem Budair was shot and killed by Israeli occupation forces after he allegedly carried a car-ramming and shooting operation resulting in the injury of two Israeli officers in Kfar Qasim city, pre-dawn today.”

Initially, Zionist media admitted that two Zionist police officers had been wounded in a car-ramming and shooting operation in the city of Kafr Qasim
...the so-called Islamic Movement (the Muslim Brotherhood in Israel) was founded in the early 1970s by Sheikh Abdullah Nimr Darwish, a preacher from Kafr Qasim. Some time later the militant arm, calling itself the Northern Branch, split off and based itself in Umm al Fahm, leaving the original group to go in for the usual Muslim Brotherhood politics, calling itself the Southern Branch until ready to present itself to the world as the Ra’am party...
in the occupied Palestinian.

Later, the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that car-ramming and shooting operation in the city of Kafr Qasim left at least resulted three members of the enemy forces injured.

Following the operation, enemy forces deployed dozens of their members to Kafr Qasim, sent military reinforcements from special units and turned the city into a military barracks, according to enemy authorities.
That was the view on events from Yemen. Herewith, The Times of Israel’s version:
Three coppers were maimed after being rammed by a vehicle in a terror attack in Kafr Qasim, an Arab city east of Tel Aviv, during the pre-dawn hours of Friday morning, law enforcement officials said.

According to police, the assailant, Naim Badir, called police over to a parking area of a building, claiming there had been a violent mostly peaceful incident, before pulling out a loaded makeshift submachine gun and attempting to open fire. Badir then fled into the building after his gun had apparently jammed, police said.

The assailant then hurled Molotov cocktails at a police car. Police said they later found several more Molotov cocktails on the roof of the building where Badir had called cops over to.

He then got into his car and rammed it into the officers, lightly wounding three of them.

Officers returned fire, killing the assailant at the scene. A knife was later found in his car.

Police said the incident was a terror attack.

Officers had first been called to the area following reports made by Badir of a domestic violence incident in the Arab-majority city, according to law enforcement officials. Video released by police showed Badir first attempting to shoot at the officers. The footage cuts before showing the attacker getting into a car and speeding toward the officers, in reverse, and slamming into another vehicle next to the police.

Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai said Friday morning that "the officers reacted fast and prevented a larger attack planned against police forces."

Central District Commander Avi Bitton said after an assessment with various security officials including the Shin Bet security service, "it appears to have been a terror attack planned days earlier."

Police dispatched reinforcements to the area, including special forces units, and were searching for additional suspects.

Despite the video footage, Badir’s family strongly denied
No, no! Certainly not!
the incident was an attack and accused police of "murdering our son in cold blood."
He was a piece of shit, now flushed
"Our son did not plan any attack," they said. "It’s a fallacious claim by police to hide its failures in facing crime in Arab society," a statement from the family said.
Start moving your goods out of your home. It's due to be rubblized
A member of Kafr Qassim’s community council told Channel 12 anonymously: "If that’s terror then police and the Shin Bet should also call the murder of Firas Heib terror, they should call the murder at the Haifa restaurant terror."

Mayor Adel Badir said "We need to wait for the motive [to become clear]" before it is ruled as terrorism.

The incident came amid high tensions and regular festivities between Israeli security forces and Paleostinians, with most of the violence taking place within the West Bank.

The area is a stronghold of Hezbollah.

"The investigation has been able to identify suspects but so far none has been arrested and the security services are still looking for them," said the judicial official who could not be further identified.

The U.N. patrol "was the target of gunfire from at least two people" when it arrived in al-Aqbiyeh, according to the same source.

Citing preliminary findings, the source said the incident "was premeditated and the patrol was surveilled and followed by a car carrying gunnies".

Report: Israel targeted secret Hezbollah drone site in Syria strike this week
[IsraelTimes] Citing unnamed sources, al-Arabiya says Israeli jets hit research and development building at al-Qusayr air base late Sunday, in a previously unreported strike

The Israeli Air Force struck a clandestine drone research and development site belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah terror group in Syria earlier this week, according to a Thursday report by the Saudi-funded al-Arabiya network and its sister channel al-Hadath.

Citing unnamed sources, al-Arabiya said Israeli jets struck the Hezbollah site at the al-Qusayr military air base, close to the border with Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. ...
, and the northwestern Syrian city of Homs overnight between Sunday and Monday. The strike was not previously reported.

The report said the site belonged to Hezbollah’s 127th unit, which has previously been reported to be responsible for the research, development, and maintenance of UAVs operated by the Iran-backed terror group in Syria.

There was no comment from the Israel Defense Forces, in line with its policy of not generally commenting on air raids in foreign countries.

Separately, Syria accused Israel of launching strikes against sites near the Syrian capital Damascus late Monday, leaving two soldiers maimed.

The second strike, according to al-Arabiya, also targeted an Iranian control center in Damascus. It cited the same unnamed sources.

Al-Hadath published images reportedly showing the two sites that were struck by the IAF in al-Qusayr and Damascus.

Iran claims it nabbed 4 Mossad-linked ‘terror cells’
[IsraelTimes] Intelligence ministry says operatives planned to use anti-regime riots as cover to carry out ’hybrid terrorist operations,’ promises details soon on ringleader in Europe

Iran
...The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both...
has arrested four cells tied to Israel’s Mossad spy agency that were planning to carry out terror attacks in the country, local media reported Thursday.

The intelligence ministry said in a statement that "relentless efforts" led to the arrest of all operatives before they could carry out their assaults. Reports did not specify how many people in total were detained.

"The Zionist criminal regime, taking advantage of the recent riots over the past weeks in several parts of Iran, intended to conduct several hybrid terrorist operations by directing operative teams," the ministry was quoted as saying.

The ministry also said it has information about a Mossad "ringleader" in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
that it will release in the near future, the Mehr news agency reported.

Iran has been violent mostly peacefully squelching protests that erupted throughout the country after the September death of Mahsa Amini, 22, in the custody of morality police. Hundreds of people have been killed, including members of the security forces, and over 10,000 arrested. At least two people have been executed.

Last week, Iran said it busted a Mossad-led spy network in the country that sought to gain access and sabotage its defense industry.

Iran’s state-owned Press TV reported that intelligence services uncovered an operation that employed a data broker to act as the head of a spare parts manufacturing company, and then forge connections with Iranian firms and individuals tied to the defense industry.

Iran makes claims of busting Mossad spy rings from time to time. The veracity of such claims is unclear.
