-Short Attention Span Theater-
Why society needs Conspiracy Theories & Conspiracy Theorists
BLUF:
[Fournier] Though the term ’conspiracy theorist’ itself dates as far back as the 19th century, it became much more prominent in the years following the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.

#1  If you want to innoculate yourself against propaganda, "INFLUENCE: The Psychology of Persuasion" by Robert Cialdini is a good place to start.
It is a short book, but after reading it, you will understand how used car salesman, telemarketers, advertisers and such try to take advantage of you. Once you see it, it cannot be unseen.

NATO, Nazis, Satanists: Putin is running out of excuses for his imperial war
[Atlantic Council] Why did Vladimir Putin invade Ukraine? The answer to this question really depends on when you’re asking. In the months leading up to the invasion, the Russian dictator focused his ire on NATO and sought to blame rising tensions around Ukraine on the military alliance’s post-Cold War expansion. As his troops crossed the border on February 24, Putin changed tack and declared a crusade against "Ukrainian Nazis." More recently, he has sought to portray Ukraine as a "terrorist state" while insisting that Russia is in fact fighting against "Satanism."

None of these arguments stands up to serious scrutiny. Instead, the various different narratives coming out of the Kremlin reflect Moscow’s increasingly desperate efforts to justify what is in reality an old-fashioned colonial war of imperial conquest.

Putin has long sought to use NATO expansion as an excuse for his own aggressive foreign policies. This plays well with the Russian public and also resonates among segments of the international community who believe the United States has become too dominant since the end of the Cold War. However, Putin’s attempts to position the invasion of Ukraine as a reasonable response to NATO encroachment have been comprehensively debunked by his own actions.

According to Reuters, Ukraine informed Russia during the first days of the invasion that it was ready to meet Moscow’s demands and rule out the possibility of future NATO membership, only for this offer to be rejected by Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy went public in the following weeks with similar proposals to abandon Ukraine’s NATO ambitions, but Russia chose to continue its invasion.

The entire notion that Russia views NATO as a credible security threat was further undermined in summer 2022 when Moscow passively accepted neighboring Finland’s historic decision to join the military alliance. Putin has repeatedly cited Ukraine’s deepening NATO ties as justification for his invasion, but the prospect of imminent Finnish membership provoked no meaningful security response whatsoever from the Kremlin.

If Putin genuinely believed a NATO invasion of Russia was even a remote possibility, he would surely have reinforced the Finnish border. On the contrary, in the months following Helsinki’s decision to join the alliance, Russia dramatically reduced its military presence close to Finland and the nearby NATO member Baltic states in order to bolster the invasion of Ukraine. Whatever Putin may say in public, he clearly understands that NATO poses no threat to Russia.

Russian myth-making about "Ukrainian Nazis" is even older than complaints over NATO expansion and dates all the way back to Soviet World War II propaganda. For decades, Moscow has exaggerated wartime cooperation between Ukrainian nationalist groups and the Third Reich while conveniently ignoring the far more consequential Nazi-Soviet Pact. By conflating Ukraine’s centuries-old liberation movement with Nazism, generations of Kremlin leaders have sought to render Ukrainian national identity toxic in the eyes of domestic and international audiences alike.

Putin’s enthusiasm for the "Nazi Ukraine" trope is very much in line with his broader efforts to place the Soviet World War II experience at the heart of modern Russian identity. Over the past two decades, Putin has turned traditional Russian reverence for the generation who defeated Hitler into a quasi-religious victory cult complete with its own feast days, holy relics, and doctrinal dogmas. This has enabled him to whitewash the crimes of the Soviet era while attacking contemporary adversaries as the spiritual successors to the Nazis. In Putin’s Russia, accusations of Nazism are a routine feature of the public discourse and have been leveled against a dizzying array of individuals, organizations, and entire countries, but Ukraine remains by far the most popular target.

The effectiveness of these tactics has always depended heavily on outside ignorance of Ukraine and Russia-centric reporting by Moscow-based international correspondents. Unfortunately for Putin, his invasion has shone an unprecedented media spotlight on Ukraine that has done much to debunk the whole "Nazi Ukraine" narrative.

#1  Oh, the Atlantic Council. Boy, talk about honest brokers! I bet they aren't engaging in motivated reasoning at all!

Vladimir Putin is himself a result of US foreign policy. If you pretend history started in February 2022, then yes, Russia “started” this war.

1: This war is a result of NATO aggression.

2: This war is a result of the CIA funding and arming nazis in West Ukraine for decades. More recently they launder this process through the National Endowment for Democracy.

3: This war is a result of the US-backed Yeltsinite shock therapy that destroyed the Russian economy.

4: This war is a result of the NATO-backed, CIA-backed, IMF-backed coup on Ukraine in 2014 that put Poroshenko and Yatsenyuk in power, and put the Ukrainian economy into the hands of the west through IMF structural adjustment programs.

It’s amazing how Atlantic Council noticed Russia’s “imperialism” of waging a war on their own borders against a CIA-backed gang of nazis shelling their own countrymen since 2014 but didn’t notice the deep state's decades-long imperialism of arming and training those nazis in the first place.

"US/NATO Provoked Ukraine War Say Most Experts On Russia"

"Politicians and members of the media have nearly universally expressed shock and dismay at Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but their incredulity is belied by the fact that numerous Russia experts and historians have been predicting these events practically since the fall of the Berlin Wall, pointing out that a Russian response to ongoing NATO incursions was virtually inevitable."

#4  Re #1: Russian, what a warped world view you have. In the west that would be called a persecution complex, a mental illness. If yours is the typical Russian outlook, no wonder Russia is sinking fast into fascist morass, has no friends or allies. Only a few hellhole client states.

Your problems are your own making because you can't see others past your own nose. The solution is also staring at you in the mirror. Open your eyes, learn to filter the truth from the lies you are told and be able see others from their viewpoint. Otherwise your neighbors will continue running to the west as fast as they can and your society will become more isolated, poorer and keep going back in time.

Cyber
Taliban is reaching your living rooms, and YouTubers are helping
[ThePrint] After maximizing it's reach on Twitter, the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
now has YouTubers to push its narrative. Even Indian creators have started to land at Kabul airport.

In October this year, the Taliban ran a hashtag promotion on Twitter called #UnitedAfghanistan. At one point, Twitter showed that over 1,25,000 tweets on the platform were using the hashtag with many pro-Taliban social media accounts also participating in making sure the message finds its legs online. The hashtag in all probability was magnified further by using bots. The idea behind this campaign by the Taliban was to promote the message, largely to the global audience, that the Pashtun-led Taliban now in power sought a ’united’ Afghanistan, made up of all ethnicities. It showed Taliban leaders with other ethnic leaders in the country. And to dispel rumours of internal strife between the prevailing power blocks of the Kandaharis and the Haqqanis, it showed photos of Mullah Yaqoob, Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Blinky Omar
...a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality. Died of an unspecified ailment in a Pak hospital...
’s son and acting defence minister along with Sirajuddin Haqqani
...son of Pashtun warlord Jalaluddin Haqqani, still titular head of the Haqqani Network....
, of the notorious Haqqani Network who is also the acting interior minister. Twitter has been a boon for the Taliban, which as of today, has a very well devised, understood, and designed media strategy. The Taliban know what kind of narrative the West wants to hear, and approaches its interactions with foreign media with that in mind.

The ISIS ecosystem, fuelled by young and tech-savvy recruits, specifically from Europe, developed robust information creation and distribution ecosystems that prevail and are replicated even today. Many pro-ISIS cases in India during this period were also radicalisation by the online materials and propaganda released by ISIS and its affiliates. These included well-produced and high-definition videos shot in Hollywood style action movies, online magazines with infographics and data visualisation, and even podcasts. A lot of these publications, at the peak of the Islamist group’s reign over territories that at the time were as large in geography as the United Kingdom, continue to be released despite the territorial defeat of the caliphate. Today, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Khorasan Province (ISKP) has its own propaganda outlets targeting India, Pakistain, the Taliban in Afghanistan, Maldives, and South Asia in general. It is imperative to remember here that two of the most destructive attacks attributed to Islamic State took place in South Asia in Bangladesh in 2016 and Sri Lanka in 2019.

#1  As long as they put a stop to opium production they're all right with me. Our people are dying from opioids that come directly from their fields.

One wonders why the US didn't put a stop to this, but actually posted guards on the opium fields to keep the supply safe from Taliban attacks. Weird, eh?

Europe
Germany's Position in America's New World Order.
[SavageMinds] Germany has become an economic satellite of America’s New Cold War with Russia, China and the rest of Eurasia.

Germany and other NATO countries have been told to impose trade and investment sanctions upon themselves that will outlast today’s proxy war in Ukraine. US President Biden and his State Department spokesmen have explained that Ukraine is just the opening arena in a much broader dynamic that is splitting the world into two opposing sets of economic alliances. This global fracture promises to be a ten- or twenty-year struggle to determine whether the world economy will be a unipolar US-centred dollarised economy, or a multipolar, multi-currency world centred on the Eurasian heartland with mixed public/private economies.

President Biden has characterised this split as being between democracies and autocracies. The terminology is typical Orwellian double-speak. By "democracies" he means the US and allied Western financial oligarchies. Their aim is to shift economic planning out of the hands of elected governments to Wall Street and other financial centres under US control. US diplomats use the International Monetary Fund and World Bank to demand privatisation of the world’s infrastructure and dependency on US technology, oil and food exports.

#4  Russia didn’t / doesn’t / won’t and cannot “control” Germany. That’s a fevered fantasy of neocons and stupid liberal Globalists.

Economist Michael Hudson’s well-argued point re Germany is clearly and simply that what the US is imposing on Germany and Russia is stupid and destructive, for everyone except US banisters and LNG companies. (Along with, of course, the US MIC. Don’t ever forget Lloyd-Raytheon and Lockheed.)

Germany is, and soon will cease to be, the world’s most advanced manufacturing economy. Russia is, and will remain for generations to come, the world’s biggest supplier of all the energy, materials and metals that German manufacturing critically relies upon.

For Germany to turn away from such a country and make itself 100% reliant upon a self-interested and unscrupulous foreign supplier, one who’s charging the Germans 4-5x as much and forcing a foolish “green energy” policy on them as well —- this amounts to national suicide.

Well, it won’t be the first time that Good Germans have followed a monstrous leader over the cliff. It’s what Good liberal Globalist Germans do.

#6  "Russia didn’t / doesn’t / won’t and cannot “control” Germany."

We just found out how dependent Germany is (or rather was) on Russian energy. And that's exactly how Russia wanted it.

What we should have done after 2014: Reducing our gas imports from Russia by 5% every year. All that trouble we have now could have been avoided.

Russia expected that Germany (and Europe) would only react with insignificant sanctions and no arms to Ukraine.

Well, shit happens. But remember it was Russia who cut the gas supplies.

#13  Buddy, we’ve been through this. Minsk II, and what the Russians proposed in early April and Zelensky was ready to sign, were good agreements.

Your problem is not with Russia. It’s with the Biden Administration’s fanatical warmongers. They quashed the peace deal between UA and RU.

It was that rancid little butterball Nuland and her confrères who staged the 2014 coup that set the country on fire.

It was the rabid neocons esp Lindsey Graham and John McCain (No Peace Be Unto Him) who stoked the flames into an 8-year civil war with berserk Ukrainian neo-Nazis slaughtering thousands in the East.

It was Nuland again plus Winken-Blinken and Brandon who backed up a gasoline tanker and sprayed fuel on the flames from March 2021 through February 21. At their urging, Ukraine suddenly declared, right after Biden’s inauguration, a ludicrous vow to “take back” Crimea. And then escalated the war with a massive increase in shelling of Donetsk in mid-February 2022. These are FACTS.

You can deny these facts all you like, but the regime change that must occur for peace to have a chance is in Washington.

Thanks to last night’s results, we’re a bit more than halfway there. Which explains why Z-man made his hard turn last night and announced his readiness for negotiations:

Correct. It means three things above all, none of which impinges on American freedoms or American security:
- Ukraine will be neutral and not aligned with NATO
- Crimea and Sebastopol remain Russian and not threatened by NATO
- Russian speakers in Eastern Ukraine will have autonomy and no longer be attacked, murdered and tortured by far-right Ukrainian neo-Nazis.

None of these outcomes has anything whatsoever to do with our freedom or our national security. They are totally irrelevant to us.

By contrast, prolonging the war will definitely drag America down in the eyes of the non-European world. Our foolish intervention is already pushing China and Russia closer together, and the Saudis closer to Russia, and the Indians closer to Russia.

We’re eroding our influence and our position in the world. For nothing.

Ah the “isolationist” canard. I’m saying we should be MORE attentive to the regions that really do affect Americans’ freedom and security, which are 1) our southern border and 2) the home front. Both are under siege now, thanks to the idiotic and criminal intervene-everywhere, protect-nothing policies of our GloboHomo zealots. The overseas region that truly matters is the Pacific — and no, not the South China Sea; Taiwan will in due course be Hung Kong’ed and brought under China’s control, and it’s pointless to pretend we can prevent it.

I want my country to be free, safe and prosperous. Thirty years of foolish globalism and interventions all over the globe — my God, the list of all the overseas wars we’ve started or escalated since 1988 us as long as your arm — these foolish adventures have had the OPPOSITE effect.

Excepting our top 1/10th of 1 percent, we are unquestionably poorer today — and less free and less secure as well— than we were at the time of the USSR’s collapse.

#41  America went through isolationism in the 1930s. Imagine America abandoning the UK, Germany and Japan attacking the Soviet Union together.

Abandon Taiwan and China will grab it. But don't believe for a minute that it will stop here. China will want its side of the Pacific Ocean, and who knows it might want it all.

China is heavily investing in Africa, South Asia and South America. It will show up in Mexico, too.

#47  Why are Communists

What kind of moron thinks that enemies of left-liberal internationalism are “communists”?
Posted by: Palermo || 11/09/2022 14:28 Comments || Top||

#48  Russia is a classic Fascist state with yearnings to recreate their "great" Communist past. That is what this war is about, Putin's great desire to reassemble the Soviet empire. Maybe enough Russians will wake up, otherwise winter is coming for them.

#49  #39 If you let others do it by brute force, you'll cease to be a world power pretty soon.

We are in fact rapidly losing power. We cannot even fight and win one war— let alone two major wars against Russia and China. The Heritage Foundation evaluated each branch of our military for readiness and competence, and gave the Army, Navy and Air Force each a failing grade. Failing.

You keep pretending that what’s already happened — the decline of our military and loss of our influence — will happen if we don’t keep shoveling trillions into shitholes around the globe. You’re seriously deluded.

Oh and those “brutes” keep winning, everywhere. The brutes kicked us out of Afghanistan — after a trillion wasted and 20 years of blood spilled. The brutes prevailed in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Somalia. Every one of those was a pointless waste of American blood and treasure.

Why is that America’s problem? European shitholes like Ukraine are Europe’s problem.

#66  FFS, we have so many humongous problems to solve now at home. We’ve just seen another clown show election in which — YJCMTSU — a brain-damaged freak, a lifelong bum and now mental patient who can’t even utter a coherent sentence was supposedly elected to serve in the United States Senate.

As if that’s a normal result of a free and fair election in a normal country. Right.

Either because the election was stolen — again — or because a majority of Americans are truly warped by hatred of the GOP, America is truly fucked if we intervene even one more time in another foreign disaster.

Our house is on fire. Put out the fire at home.

America First.

Had the GOP put forth a slate of intelligent and forceful, true America-First senate candidates like JD Vance, we would have won easily in each of the close races.

Your venom should be directed at the assholes who have wasted literally TRILLIONS on these foolish adventures while running our country into the ground.

They’re even depleting the stocks we need for own defense. We are weaker than we’ve been at any time since 1979. WTF?

#73  The GOP must get away from celebrity and sportsball player candidates.

Reagan was the exception that proves the rule. He was an all-around man who happened to be a underwhelming actor, but was also a union head, governor and still one of our best and most long-term influential on the world stage Presidents.

Larry Elder, Herschel Walker, Kari Lake and Tudor Dixon are not Ronald Reagan.

#75  They’re even depleting the stocks we need for own defense. We are weaker than we’ve been at any time since 1979.

You mentioned we had two oceans protecting us and that we don't need to keep such spending up... now you are saying we need it for our defense. Which is it? You flip flop worse than a 3 dollar whore during fleet week.

And no I don't long for another cold war. Grew up during one already thank you very much. Which is why I am happy to give Ukraine weapons as long as they are willing to fight and die for their country. Russia won't stop with Ukraine. I don't want a war, but Russia doesn't give a shit what I want. So they can die in Ukraine and lose their breeding population and be sent to the dustbin of history.

Once again, true, if we = Russia. Which is now using 1960s era tanks, rusty AK-47s, filling its lines with untrained and unsupplied mobik cannon fodder, and is reduced to buying arms from Iran and North Korea. The Russian army is dying in the mud of Ukraine.

Government Corruption
It Feels Like We Are Watching the First Wholly Manufactured Election in Our History in Which All Key Competitive Races Were Programmed By Langley
[Gateway] It seriously feels like we are watching the first wholly manufactured election in our history, in which all of the key competitive races have had the results directly programmed by Langley.

Americans are suffering through the most crushing economic conditions, rampant crime, reckless foreign/nuclear war flirtations, most aggressive perverse assaults on family and parental rights in history, all topped off by an embarrassing unpopular disaster in the White House leading a shrill, tin-eared bellicose fascist junta that appears indifferent to the ordeal they are inflicting on working people.

And yet the Democrat monolith is barely dented. Either the country has large states filled with brainwashed zealots who are too stupid and mindless to comprehend the reality of the collective damage they are ratifying with votes for at best lackluster at worst appallingly unimpressive if not foolish candidates.... or we are seeing direct black box voting manipulation. Final tabulations are being perpetrated on a scale that renders typical ballot and voter fraud schemes unnecessary anachronisms as the decisive votes that have now kept the ruling junta largely intact. At worst they are literal fabrications piled onto Democrat vote totals by a few keystrokes entered in some master election hacking operation run by IC criminals in a league with and part of the Democrat Crime Syndicate.

The experts Lindell brought together have been quite explicit and factually well-supported in laying out how the fraud goes far deeper and is far more comprehensive than any sort of ham-handed ballot harvesting, ballot box stuffing, or illegal voting schemes on the ground. I

Festerman’s supposed win is beyond any rational explanation and defies every known political and electoral principle and truism that we have seen hold firm throughout our entire history.

It would be suicidally ludicrous to think that this pack of criminals won’t use every last means at their disposal to the bitter end.

And there’s good old Fox News chipper as ever as they announce the results of this massive national fraud, without the slightest question as to why every indication has somehow been wrong, choosing only to focus on the handful of obvious victories that were allowed to go forward because they were either too inevitable or simply unnecessary to reverse.
