Shah Mohammad Arian, front man for Paktika Police HQ told the media that the incident happened in Waza Khwa district on Sunday evening.
The commander was ambushed while he was supplying police checkpoints in the Marjan area of the region.
Arian said no harm was reached to other security force members during the attack, but the Taliban have claimed that in addition to killing the Waza Khwa police chief two of his bodyguards were also maimed during the festivities.
