Grom,

I really think that the Egyptians know that Hamass is bad news and is doomed (at least in it's current form) but they can't quite bring themselves to throw up their hands and walk away.

It seems likely to me though- YMMV, of course - that the Egyptians are indeed ready to do so. For both internal and external consumption, though, they need to be seen as having gone just a little more than the last mile.
