I actually laughed when I read that. Yeah, the Ivans are so lame and stupid they can't sacrifice themselves in a futile frontal attack on a well-defended city.

As mossomo points out, the Rus have executed this play umpteen times before, pretty much for the entire war. Flank 'em, cut the supply lines, and either force them to retreat or sit there and get pounded by artillery, which is to say tubes, missiles, drones and airplanes. It seems to be working for them.
