2019-08-11 | ||||
[IsraelTimes] Shooter described as ’white man with a helmet and uniform’ carrying multiple weapons; police say condition of victim is not clear. A gunman armed with multiple weapons went on a shooting spree in a mosque in a suburb of the Norwegian capital Oslo on Saturday, injuring one worshiper before being arrested, police and witnesses said. "spree"? The head of the mosque described the assailant as white and said he was wearing a helmet and a uniform. "One person is shot. The severity of that person’s injuries is unknown. One suspect is arrested. The police are working at the location," Oslo police said on Twitter. The shooting occurred at the al-Noor Islamic centre in the town of Baerum, an Oslo suburb. Police said there was no indication that more people were involved. They said they had no information about the suspect, other than he was described as "white". "One of our members has been shot by a white man with a helmet and uniform," Irfan Mushtaq, head of the mosque, told local newspaper Budstikka. He later told broadcaster TV2 that the man had carried multiple weapons. "An ethnically Norwegian man with a shotgun and pistols entered the mosque and broke glass windows. He started shooting around him," Mushtaq said. Public broadcaster NRK reported that police had found multiple weapons inside the mosque, and that someone in the building had managed to subdue the suspect before police arrived on the scene. The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) said it was monitoring the situation. "We’re following the events and are continuously evaluating. It’s to early to draw any conclusions," Martin Bernsen, information director at PST, told NRK.
“The man carried two shotgun-like weapons and a pistol. He broke through a glass door and fired shots,” Mr Mushtaq told TV 2. At the time of the attack, three men were in the building praying: the septuagenarian and two other men. When they saw the perpetrator, the two other men fled to safety while the 75-year-old man “was quick and grabbed him immediately”, Mr Mushtaq said. “He overpowered him while he was shooting. He ended up in a scuffle with the perpetrator, and was punched in the eye while trying to gain control,” he continued, adding that one of the other men returned and hit the gunman over the back of the head, overpowering him.
Skjold added that the suspect had been known to police before the incident but could not be described as someone with a "criminal background."
A woman related to the suspected gunman was later found dead in a home near where the attack took place. "We consider this a suspicious death... The dead person is related to the man arrested earlier today," Skjold told reporters.

2009-10-03 |
![]() Talking to reporters from an undisclosed location, he said there was no truth in these reports as Tahir Yuldachev was alive. He didn't elaborate or promise any evidence to back up his claim. Qari Hussain, known as master trainer of suicide bombers, is a cousin of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)'s new head Hakimullah Mahsud, who replaced Baitullah Mahsud following the latter's death in a US missile strike in South Waziristan on August 5. Earlier, Pakistani security agencies officials were quoted as saying by at least two foreign media organizations that Tahir Yuldachev, known as Qari Farooq in Afghanistan and Pakistan, had died in a US drone attack in South Waziristan on August 27. Six FC men hurt in Mohmand blast |
2009-02-03 |
Six personnel of the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) were injured when their vehicle was hit by an explosives device planted by militants on a road in the Mulakhel area of Lakaro Tehsil in the restive Mohmand Agency on Sunday. Sources said the vehicles of an official of the Thall Scouts and security men were passing through the Qayyumabad area in the Lakaro Tehsil and moving towards the Bajaur Agency when a roadside bomb went off. The official and the security forces' personnel narrowly escaped as the device exploded just after the convoy passed through the area. Soon after the blast, personnel of the Mohmand Rifles, an FC wing, from the Darwazgai-II checkpoint rushed to the spot in a vehicle. As they reached the Mulakhel area, their vehicle was hit by another roadside bomb, which caused injuries to six personnel. The injured were identified as Naib Subedar Rafiq and Sepoys Anjuman, Attaur Rahman, Noor Islam, Ijaz and Mujahid, who were rushed to a nearby military health facility. Reports pouring in from the restive tribal agency said that the militants also attacked the Mamad Gat camp with rockets and mortars from the Chamarkand, Chinari and Alingar areas. However, the security forces in the Bhai Dag and Nawagai camps retaliated and targeted the suspected hideouts of the militants with artillery shelling. There was report of any casualties from either side. The Peshawar-Bajaur Road remained closed for all kinds of traffic from early morning to 3:00 pm as a convoy of the security forces, backed by tanks and aerial support, was coming from Peshawar to the troubled tribal area. People of the area, particularly those migrating to safer places, faced problems due to the closure of the road. The security forces, along with officials of the political administration, also patrolled the Qandaro, Mulakhel and Mirzakhel areas. |

Wazirs block foreign militants' return to Wana |
2008-04-04 |
![]() ![]() Chaos, lawlessness: It was a unanimous decision of the jirga that foreign militants were not acceptable by any means as their return would plunge the area back into chaos, target-killing, and lawlessness, the elder said. The local tribes rejection of the return of foreign militants to Wana comes after two air strikes by the United States since February 28 in Kaloosha and Wana respectively, pinpointing foreign militants. The two strikes left more than 30 local and foreign militants dead. Islamic Emirates, a Taliban-led parallel government in the Tribal Areas, is negotiating the return of five key Wazir militant commanders Ghulam Jan, Maulvi Abbas, Haji Umar, Maulvi Javed Karmazkhel, and Noor Islam return to Wana, along with foreign militants who accompany Taliban leader Maulvi Nazir. The five were commanders for Taliban leader Nek Muhammad, who was killed in a missile attack in Wana in June 2004. They were hosts to Uzbek militants who local residents remember as butchers for their alleged atrocities against the Wazir populace. The five men, according to tribal sources, are being sheltered by Taliban leaders who sympathise with foreign militants in South and North Waziristan. Around 150 pro-government elders were killed between December 2004 and February 2007 in and around Wana, and Uzbek militants were prime suspects for all these killings and for other crimes. Sources said that Maulvi Nazir was showing [a] soft corner for the five commanders and also the foreign militants after the Islamic Emirates guaranteed good behaviour of the foreign militants; however the sources added that the Ahmedzai Wazir tribes unwillingness would be difficult for him to bypass, as he had signed a peace accord with them. Nazir is taking the Ahmedzai Wazir tribes into confidence on every major issue before making any decision, and local analysts say that because of a still unconsolidated and weak position he could not ignore the local tribes strength in protecting him against any attack from foes. |

![]() ISPR Director General Maj Gen Waheed Arshad told Daily Times on the phone from Islamabad that the convoy was heading towards Bannu from Miranshah when a suicide bomber attacked it in front of a madrassa in the Gurbaz area. Six jawans were martyred in what appears to be a suicide attack, Arshad said, adding that linking the attack to the events in Islamabad could only be speculation. One can speculate but there is no evidence the army has been attacked in this area before, he said. A passenger van driver in Bannu told Daily Times that a white car smashed into the last truck traveling in the convoy from behind and exploded. The bomber signaled me to slow down as he drove past my vehicle. I thought he was a highway man and slowed my van, but moments later I saw the man crash his vehicle in the truck, he said, adding that military helicopters airlifted the killed and wounded soldiers. A civilian killed in the attack has been identified as a student of Darul Uloom Sadiqia where the attack took place. One madrassa student was killed and another five were injured in the attack, Noor Islam, a madrassa student, told Daily Times. |
