IDF: Lebanon drone strike last night killed local Hezbollah commander: south Syria med. clinic treated 500 Syrians |
2025-05-30 |
[IsraelTimes] An Israeli drone strike last night in southern Lebanon’s Yater killed a commander in Hezbollah, the military announces. According to the IDF, the operative, named by local media as Nabil Balaghi, was the commander of Hezbollah’s forces in the Yater area. During the war, Balaghi “advanced terror attacks on IDF troops and Israel,” the IDF says, adding that recently he attempted to restore Hezbollah’s capabilities in the Yater area, which “constitutes a blatant violation of the [ceasefire] deal.” More than 150 Hezbollah operatives have been killed in Israeli strikes since the start of the November 2024 ceasefire in Lebanon. Lebanese media reports Israeli strike near 25 km from border [IsraelImes] Lebanese media reports an Israeli strike near the village of Bnafoul, some 25 kilometers from the Israeli border and close to the coastal city of Sidon. IDF says its medical facility in south Syria has treated over 500 Syrians [IsraelTimes] The IDF says a medical facility it set up in southern Syria, next to the Druze village of Hader, has so far treated over 500 Syrians. The “forward mobile triage” was established several weeks ago, amid the IDF’s ongoing operations in southern Syria, and is intended to treat Syrian Druze in the area, the military says. “IDF troops continue to operate in Syria to maintain the security of the residents of the Golan Heights and to create a forward security zone, alongside providing assistance to the local population,” it adds. |

Israeli strike kills municipal worker in Nabatieh al-Fawqa — Naharnet |

[NAHARNET] An Israeli dronezap killed a municipal worker in southern Leb![]() , the state-run National News Agency said. The man was on his way to work on a well supplying water to homes when he was killed in the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, the NNA said. Lebanon's Health Ministry also reported one person killed in the strike. The Israeli army said in a statement that it had killed a "Hezbollah terrorist" who was "rehabilitating a site used by" the group "to manage its fire and defense array." A U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement brought the latest war between Israel and Hezbollah to an end in late November, but Israel has continued to launch near-daily strikes on Lebanon since then. Lebanon has complained that Israel is violating the ceasefire while Israel says it is striking Hezbollah facilities and officials to prevent the group from rearming. IDF confirms striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including weapons dump near Sidon [IsraelTimes] The IDF confirms carrying out airstrikes in Lebanon this evening, saying it targeted military facilities and other infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah. The targets included a site used to store weapons near Sidon, where recent Hezbollah activity was identified, the military says. The facility has been struck by the IDF previously, and the activity was related to Hezbollah’s efforts to restore the site, according to the IDF. Additionally, the IDF says it hit several sites used to store rocket launchers in southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah activity was also identified. Israel has confirmed it used high-powered laser systems to intercept dozens of Hezbollah drones; separately, since ceasefire over 180 Hezbollah turbans toes up, incl. 38 emirs |

IDF reveals it used laser system to intercept dozens of Hezbollah drones last year [IsraelTimes] During the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Leb ...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?... last year, the Israeli Air Force intercepted dozens of drones launched by the terror group using a new laser interception system, the military and Defense Ministry revealed on Wednesday. The new system used during the fighting is a lower-powered version of the Iron Beam laser interceptor, which is set to be delivered to the Israel Defense Forces later this year. Both systems are developed by Israeli defense firm Rafael. The ministry said the development of the system was advanced in light of the Hezbollah drone threat in the north. Hezbollah fired more than 300 explosive-laden drones at Israel amid the fighting, with many evading air defenses and causing damage and casualties. "Throughout the current war, the IAF, including its Aerial Defense Array soldiers, studied and deployed the laser systems in the field, achieving outstanding interception rates that saved civilian lives and protected national assets," the IDF and Defense Ministry said. The ministry released footage showing some of the successful interceptions. A laser interception system shoots down drones over northern Israel, in an undated video published by the Defense Ministry on May 28, 2025. (Defense Ministry) Also on Wednesday, the IDF said it was reorganizing its defenses on the Lebanese border, six months into the ceasefire that ended the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. The 146th Reserve Division, which was tasked with the western portion of the border with Lebanon since the beginning of the war, has been withdrawn, and instead, the 91st "Galilee" Regional Division is retaking responsibility for the entire frontier, from Rosh Hanikra up to, but not including, Mount Dov. The actual number of forces on the Lebanese border, triple the amount of troops compared to before the war, will remain more or less the same even after the demobilization of the 146th Division, as the troops will be placed under the 91st Division instead. The 91st Division is also forming a third regional brigade to be tasked with the central region of the border, in addition to the 300th "Baram" Brigade in the west and the 769th "Hiram" Brigade in the east. Currently, the as-yet unnamed central regional brigade is being staffed by the division’s 8th Reserve Armored Brigade. The division is also in the process of incorporating the newly revived 946th Air Defense Battalion, which operates anti-drone systems, including the new laser system. During the ongoing ceasefire in Lebanon, the IDF has continued to strike Hezbollah operatives and sites it says violate the understandings between Israel and Lebanon. On Wednesday, during a visit to Northern Command headquarters in Safed, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Israel would continue to "weaken" Hezbollah. "We will continue to act, remove threats and weaken Hezbollah to protect the northern communities and the State of Israel," Zamir said in remarks published by the IDF. "The Northern Command changed the security reality in the area and strengthened the security on the border." Since the start of the ceasefire, the IDF says it has killed over 180 Hezbollah operatives, including 38 senior commanders and another 28 lower-ranking officers in the terror group. An Israeli dronezap on Tuesday night in southern Lebanon’s Yater killed a commander in Hezbollah, the military announced Wednesday. According to the IDF, the operative, named by local media as Nabil Balaghi, was the commander of Hezbollah’s forces in the Yater area. During the war, Balaghi "advanced attacks against IDF troops and Israel," the IDF said, adding that recently he attempted to restore Hezbollah’s capabilities in the Yater area, which "constitutes a blatant violation of the [ceasefire] deal." The November 2024 ceasefire ended more than a year of fighting, including some two months of open war, between Israel and Hezbollah. The fighting began on October 8, 2023, when the Iran-backed terror group started attacking Israel daily with missiles and drones in support of Hamas ![]() Israel was obligated to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon under the ceasefire. It pulled out from all but five strategic posts located several hundred meters inside Lebanon, which it says are necessary to defend Israeli communities. |

U.S.-Taliban Engagement Deepens as Haqqani Figures Quietly Shift Off Sanctions Radar |
2025-03-23 |
[KhaamaPress] Sirajuddin Haqqani![]() , the acting Interior Minister under the Taliban ![]() -led administration in Afghanistan, continues to draw international attention as signs of evolving U.S. policy emerge. Sources close to the Haqqani network ...a branch of the Afghan Taliban that was based in Pakistain. The network is a family business founded by the late Jalaluddin Haqqani... have told Afghan outlet Tolo News that the reward designations on key figures of the group have been lifted by the U.S. government. According to these sources, Sirajuddin Haqqani, along with Abdul Aziz Haqqani and Yahya Haqqani, are no longer included on the U.S. State Department’s Rewards for Justice list. This development follows a period of growing engagement between the United States and the de facto Afghan authorities. Earlier this month, a U.S. delegation visited Kabul for the first time since 2021, reportedly focusing on the release of American detainees. One of those detainees, George Glezmann, was subsequently freed after over two years in jug and returned to the United States. Tammy Bruce, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, told Afghan media that while the return of detained Americans was the top priority of the visit, broader and longer-term issues were also discussed with Taliban officials. She did not elaborate on those discussions, citing political sensitivity. While Sirajuddin Haqqani’s profile has indeed been removed from the State Department’s Rewards for Justice website, his name remains listed on the FBI’s Most Wanted database with no visible changes to his profile or the reward amount. This contrast has raised questions about the exact nature of the changes, and whether they reflect a shift in designation or are part of a phased diplomatic strategy. Symbolically, anti-U.S. slogans once painted on the walls of the former U.S. Embassy in Kabul have reportedly been removed. This act, though subtle, aligns with a growing trend of more moderate and engagement-focused messaging from the current leadership. At the regional level, India has also confirmed its ongoing engagement with the Taliban government. On March 20, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stated that New Delhi had chosen to engage with those in control in Afghanistan, driven by humanitarian imperatives. India has provided large-scale food aid, COVID-19 vaccines, and development assistance since August 2021, and Indian envoys have met with top Taliban officials in recent months. India’s approach mirrors a broader recalibration of regional strategy. As the U.S. looks to stabilize its influence in South Asia, some analysts suggest that India may become a more active partner in shaping regional outcomes, while traditional players such as Pakistain—closely aligned with China—may find their roles shifting in the evolving landscape. Although there is no official confirmation from U.S. authorities regarding a change in Haqqani’s legal designation, the combination of recent diplomatic activity, removals from key sanctions lists, and a shift in regional posture point to a growing willingness by international actors to engage in measured, pragmatic dialogue with the Afghan leadership. Armoured Corps Links with Sudanese forces in HQ, squeezing RSF in Khartoum - Sudan Tribune |
2025-03-19 |
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The Sudan![]() ese army said on Monday its Armoured Corps had linked up with forces at the army's General Command headquarters in Khartoum, effectively ending the presence of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in a key part of the complex. Since early Sunday, the Armoured Corps launched a major military operation, pushing north and east and taking control of large parts of Khartoum 2 and 3 neighbourhoods, the strategically important al-Musallamiya Bridge, and El Nilein Towers, which the RSF had used as sniper positions, according to the army. Army front man Nabil Abdallah said in a statement: ''Today, the knights of the Armoured Corps joined the steadfast heroes at the General Command after cleansing the People's Teaching Hospital of the rabble of the Daglo family militia.'' Video clips circulated on pro-army platforms showed soldiers arriving from southern Khartoum meeting with troops stationed at the main army headquarters east of the capital. In a strategic manoeuvre following the September 26th Omdurman bridge crossing, the Sudanese Army deceived the Rapid Support Forces into massing its fighters in the al-Mogran area while simultaneously launching an armoured advance from southern Khartoum towards the General Command. The link-up will allow military reinforcements to reach the General Command and facilitate a southward push to clear remaining RSF pockets in southern Khartoum, including the Yarmouk Military Complex, the Central Reserve camp, and the Tayba camp, extending to Jebel Aulia, the army said. It could also open a path toward the airport. The Armoured Corps' arrival at the General Command tightens the army's control around the Republican Palace, the Strategy base, and other key sites in central Khartoum that remain under RSF control. |

Palestinian Authority slams Hamas over talks with US, urges it to resume ‘national sanity’ |
2025-03-14 |
[IsraelTimes] The Palestinian Authority condemns Hamas for holding negotiations with the United States regarding Gaza’s future, saying this harms Palestinian unity and violates a law against communications with foreign parties. In a statement issued on PA mouthpiece WAFA last night, presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh alleges the talks circumvent and “weaken” the Arab consensus in favor of Egypt’s plan for postwar Gaza, as well as the efforts to confront US President Donald Trump’s plan to displace all the Strip’s population. Highlighting the longstanding split between the PA-controlled West Bank and the Hamas-ruled Gaza, Abu Rudeineh urges the terror group “to come back to national sanity, end the intra-Palestinian division, and hand over the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian National Authority, so that the Gaza Strip and the West Bank would be reunited under the rule of a single national authority, a single law, a single weapon, and a single legitimate political representation.” |

Sudanese army ends RSF''s two-year siege of El Obeid |
2025-02-24 |
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The Sudan![]() ese army said on Sunday it had broken a nearly two-year siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan state, linking its forces advancing from White Nile state with those already stationed inside the city. In recent weeks, the army's ''Al-Sayyad'' mobile force, largely composed of soldiers from the 16th Infantry Division based in Nyala, South Darfur, seized Um Rawaba and al-Rahd, then advanced through the al-Ghar and Kordofan Mountains to El Obeid, the 5th Infantry Division's headquarters. ''Thanks to God, our forces on the al-Sayyad axis succeeded in opening the road to El Obeid and joining forces with the 'Lions of the Camel Corps,''' Brigadier Nabil Abdallah, the Sudanese army spokesperson, said in a statement, officially declaring the end of the 22-month siege. Army soldiers released video footage of the moment troops from White Nile state met with those inside El Obeid. The 5th Division commander welcomed the arriving soldiers at the city's entrance. El Obeid, Um Rawaba, and al-Rahd residents celebrated the siege's end. The RSF siege caused a humanitarian crisis in El Obeid, with severe shortages of essential goods due to restrictions on aid and commercial convoys.
