JUI-F threatens to block highway between Afghanistan and Pakistan
2018-05-22
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...a Pak religious party. It is usually part of the govt, never part of the solution...
-Fazzl (JUI-F) led by Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman has threatened to block the highway between Afghanistan and Pakistain.

The party reportedly issued the warning after the decision by the government of Pakistain to merge Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, according to The Express Tribune.

JUI-F’s Fata chapter Mufti Abdul Shakoor said Sunday Fata’s merger with the K-P "is an international agenda which will not be supported at any cost."

Speaking during a presser with JUI-F’s general secretary Mufti Ijaz Shinwari and information secretary Jihad Shah, Mufti Shakoor said the party will stage a protest demonstration at the Pak-Afghan highway in Landi Kotal and a separate one at the Indus Highway in Darra Adam Khel simultaneously against ignoring the will of tribal people and imposing decisions on them against their wishes.

The party’s chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman

had earlier announced that the party had decided to part ways with the ruling Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) over the implementation of reforms in Fata.

Terming the merger a global conspiracy, Maulana Rehman had said that the government had backed off from the promise it made with their party for not going ahead with the merger.

Former JUI-F leader held in Khyber operation
2009-01-08
The Khyber Agency political administration arrested a former Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Landikotal chief here on Wednesday, as a military operation continued in the region to clear the supply route for NATO forces in Afghanistan.
The once and future amir...
The arrested former JUI-F official Gul Rehman told Daily Times from the lockups in Landikotal that he had come to meet the tribesmen who were detained during the military operation when he was arrested, "without any charge or warrants". The JUI-F had recently expelled Rehman from the party.

Arrests: The political administration has also issued warrants for the arrest of JUI-F Khyber Agency chief Mufti Ijaz Shinwari, and for some tribesmen and Taliban leaders and asked them to surrender before the administration.

So far around two dozen tribal elders have been apprehended in the operation. They include a six-member jirga that had given a surety bond worth Rs 7 million, saying that two local Taliban leaders -- Hazrat Nabi and Hazrat Ali -- would appear before the administration whenever summoned and would not indulge in any criminal activity. The six jirga members were arrested two days ago when the two Taliban refused to obey summons to appear before the authorities. Detained tribesmen told journalists they had been imprisoned without being charged with any wrongdoing. They said they had not done anything illegal and had been arrested for protesting against load shedding and excesses by the political administration.

Landikotal Assistant Political Agent Azam Khan had recently told Daily Times that the Khyber political agent was fully aware of the military operation and that anyone could be detained or released on his orders.

LI kidnaps Khasadar men
2008-09-05
Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) allegedly kidnapped three Khasadar (tribal police) personnel, including a naib subedar and two civilians from the Ziarai checkpost in Khyber on Wednesday night.

According to reports, armed LI militants stormed the checkpost and kidnapped Naib Subedar Nisar Khan and two others. The kidnappers also stole two cars and set fire to another car and part of the checkpost.

A Khasadar official said the five could have been kidnapped to force the government to release 10 LI members arrested several days ago at Jamrud. LI has not confirmed the claim. So far, the administration has not taken any action to recover either the Khasadars or the civilians.

Meanwhile a jirga being held to negotiate the release of Khuga Khel Shinwari jirga members is still in progress. The political administration began a crackdown on the Khuga Khel Shinwari tribe to force them to surrender Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Khyber Agency leader Mufti Ijaz Shinwari and the local leader of the Tanzeem-e-Ittehad Ulema.

The Khasadar Force subedar major told Daily Times that the political administration had arrested more than 24 people from the Khuga Khel Shinwari tribe. They said more than 60 shops had been sealed and around 20 vehicles had been seized so far in the crackdown.
