Kenya Puts Bounty In Hunt For Suspected Al Shabaab Members

[RADIOSHABELLE] The Government has in the last two years placed over Sh100 million bounty on heads of about 35 wanted terror suspects. The money is for reward on information leading to arrest of most wanted Al-Shabaab ... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... militia. While some suspects have either been placed in durance vile Please don't kill me! or killed by security agents in Kenya and neighbouring Somalia, many still remain in hiding. A security bigshot privy to the Anti-terrorism operations told Sunday Standard that the bounties have had a great impact in tracking some terrorists. Mohammed Mohamud alias Mohammed Kuno, a Kenyan al-Shabaab leader is said to have led the heinous Garissa University College massacre in which 147 people were killed in April 2015. He holds the highest bounty at Sh20 million. The suspect, also known as Dulyadin Gamadhere, hails from the Ogaden tribe in Garissa County. He has been linked to several terror attacks in the country, including the September 2013 Westgate Shopping Mall raid in which 67 people were killed.

Search is on for local partners of terrorists

[Daily Nation (Kenya)] Police were on Monday looking for people who may have aided the Lions of Islam who killed 148 people at the Garissa University College. Investigators believe the bandidos holy warriors must have worked with locals in Garissa County to plan and execute the deadly attack. Police are particularly looking for those who might have sheltered them, helped in hiding their arsenal as well as offering them transport. Those who helped in carrying out surveillance at the prior to the attack are also being sought by police. A guard at the university was being held for the fourth day after he was linked to the four terrorists' response units killed, including the fifth, who went kaboom!. Mr Osman Ali Dagane, a Kenyan was found in possession of jihadist material and it is believed he let the attackers into the compound. His colleague was rubbed out at the gate. Mr Rashid Charles Mberesero, a Tanzanian, is also being held. He was tossed in the clink Book 'im, Mahmoud! within the university precincts after the attackers were killed. Another Kenyan arrested together with the Tanzanian is also in jug. Three other suspects were arrested at the border as they attempted to sneak into Somalia. Other than the five, whose arrest was announced by the Interior ministry, the Nation learnt that relatives of Kenyan Al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... commanders in Somalia were also being interrogated. At least 10 suspects are on the government's watch list, but it is not clear how many of their relatives were being questioned by police. Top on the list is Mohammed Kuno, who has a Sh20 million bounty on his head. The other is Abdifatah Abubakar Abdi aka Musa Muhajir, wanted in connection with last year's Mpeketoni attacks. The government has offered Sh2 million for information leading to Abdifatah's arrest.

Government names Mohamed Kuno as Garissa University College attack mastermind

[Daily Nation (Kenya)] A Kenyan and a former teacher in Garissa has been named as the criminal mastermind of the terrorist attack at Garissa University College. A Sh20 million bounty has been placed on the runaway, Mohammed Kuno, who has been on the run since December last year. Kuno was then identified as the Al-Shabaab ... the personification of Somali state failure... commander who oversaw the killings of 58 Kenyans in Mandera. The corpse count in the latest attack is 15. A security brief seen by the Nation says Kuno is a former teacher and Principal at Madarasa Najah in Garissa and has three aliases; Sheikh Mahamad, Dulyadin and Gamadheere. He joined forces of Evil in Somalia at the time of the Islamic Courts Union, which later metamorphosed into Al-Shabaab. He uses his family members in carrying out terrorist activities in northern Kenya. Kuno, the brief added, is Al-Shabaab's leader for Juba region in Somalia, and currently in charge of external operations against Kenya. Juba region shares a vast border with Kenya, and touches Mandera, Garissa, Wajir and Lamu counties.
