Explosive-laden drone intercepted near Erbil airport
2025-07-05
[Rudaw] Local counterterrorism forces said an explosive-laden drone was intercepted in the skies of Erbil late Thursday, with no casualties reported.

The drone was downed at 9:58 pm local time near Erbil International Airport but "did not cause any casualties or material damage," the Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD), which is part of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC), said on Facebook.

Earlier in the evening, Rudaw published CCTV footage showing the moment the drone fell in a village near the airport.

There are reports of flight cancellations at the airport.

Lawand Mamundi, CEO of Erbil Fly, told Rudaw that none of the flights of his company have been cancelled.

CCTV footage shows an apparent explosion near Erbil airport.

An explosive drone crashed in Sulaimani province's Garmiyan administration Thursday afternoon without causing casualties, a spokesperson for security forces said.

Remains of a suspected drone were found in Kirkuk late Thursday.

It is not clear where these drones originate from, but they are believed to be related to the latest deadly war between Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
and Israel.

The renewed drone activity follows the US-brokered ceasefire that went into effect on June 24, ending the 12-day war between Iran and Israel. During the conflict, numerous drones and rockets flew through the airspace of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, where several drones fell or were intercepted.
The Times of Israel points out:
In the past days, drone and rocket attacks have been reported in different parts of Iraq, including drones that landed in open spaces.

Earlier on Thursday, an explosive-packed drone fell near Kirkuk airport, which was struck on Monday by two rockets, a senior security official told AFP.

Kirkuk airport hosts Iraqi army units, federal police, and the Hashed al-Shaabi, a coalition of pro-Iran former paramilitary forces now integrated into the regular armed forces.

Early on Tuesday, Iraq’s anti-aircraft defense engaged at least one drone near the key refinery of Baiji in Salaheddin province.

Last week, hours before a ceasefire ended the 12-day Iran-Israel war, unidentified drones struck radar systems at two military bases in Baghdad and southern Iraq.

Iraq has long been a battleground of drone and rocket assaults and has proved a fertile ground for proxy wars.

The country has only recently regained a semblance of stability after decades of devastating conflicts and turmoil.

Khaleda Zia calls for nation building
2024-08-07
[Dhaka Tribune] BNP leaders say the loathesome Khaleda Zia
...Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, Pak foil, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ...>
is concerned about the nationwide violence, vandalism and looting of state resources amid the student uprising surrounding a round of anti-discrimination student movement programs.

"Our state's resources are being wasted. This country is ours; we have to build this country," she said during a meeting with Maulana Mamunul Haque, secretary general of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, at Evercare Hospital in the capital on Tuesday.
"And I am here to loot and steal offer my leadership"
Earlier in the day, President Shahabuddin Ahmed set the former premier by commuting her jail sentence in line with Article 49 of the Constitution.

After exchanging greetings, she reminisced about her good relationship with Mamunul's father's late Sheikhul Hadis Azizul Haque.

According to the meeting sources, Khaleda Zia stated that causing harm to people's lives and property constitutes a serious incident. Many people are involved in the looting of state resources, which is unjust, she said.

Asked about this, Khilafat Majlis Joint Secretary General Maulana Ataullah Amin said: "Begum Khaleda Zia is an oppressed woman. We were imprisoned for a long time. Maulana Mamunul Haque was also in jail for a long time. Prisoners love prisoners the most. Under the leadership of Maulana Mamunul Haque, we went to the hospital to enquire about her health."

In response to a question about the meeting, Ataullah said: "The situation in the country is not good. He is concerned about the loss of human life and property. Looting state resources is not the right thing to do. Allah will punish those who do injustice, he said. "Begum Zia has asked for prayers for the people of the country, for herself."

Shafiqur Rahman along with their party leaders entered the central office. The party’s central committee sat at a meeting there and then its chief addressed a presser there.

"We left here (central office) on September 19, 2011. We’ve entered (the office) now," said Shafiqur Rahman.

"Those who have conscience and humanity can’t do these acts. That is why our organization is strongly condemning the miscreants who are doing such things repeatedly," said the Jamaat chief.

He said they already urged the people of the country and his party’s leaders and activists to play the role of watchmen where people are in danger as whoever was born in the country is a proud citizen of Bangladesh regardless of caste and religion.

Five policemen deployed for polio duty martyred in Bajaur blast
2024-01-09
[GEO.TV] At least five police officials were martyred and 24 were maimed Monday in a bomb explosion targeting a police vehicle in Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district, Geo News reported.

Police said the cops were going to provide security to polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain...
vaccination teams. More deaths were feared in the incident, they said.

The dear departed and injured have been shifted to Khar hospital, where an emergency was declared, they added. Police said blood donation was sought by the hospital for treatment of the victims.

The police spokesperson said all the casualties were police personnel.

Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman condemned the attack on the police officials deployed for the security of the anti-polio team in Bajaur.

Taking to X, she said the PPP stands in solidarity with the families of the five personnel martyred in the earth-shattering kaboom.

"Terrorists have attacked not only the police but also the health of our children. An attack on the security of the anti-polio team should not be tolerated under any circumstances, it is directly related to the health of our children," she said.

[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • RUMORS OF POSSIBLE TTP EXODUS – Reports are beginning to surface on select analysis sites that a large TTP incursion of Pakistan may take place in the coming days. There are reports from two of the border Provinces in Afghanistan of trucks assembling in at least five different villages. A source in Kabul said that TTP leaders were being ‘encouraged’ to depart Afghanistan to lower tensions with Pakistan (and take the pressure off of Kabul). It was not clear who communicated this message to the TTP leadership in Afghanistan and this information has not been confirmed. Social media sites sympathetic to the TTP in Pakistan have been hinting that more TTP fighters would be returning to Pakistan over the last four days.

  • THE UNITED NATIONS CONCERNED ABOUT FORCED REPATRIATION PLANS IN PAKISTAN – An anonymous UN official spoke with journalists and said the body is deeply concerned about the recent remarks made by the caretaker PM in Islamabad about repatriating foreigners who are in the country illegally. Officials from the UN are in discussions with the government in Islamabad and are seeking to clarify the remarks. The United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Pakistan was quick to thank Pakistan for its generosity in dealing with multiple displacement events but also warned that it expected Pakistan to only repatriate those who agree to return voluntarily.

  • BRITISH TOURIST, MILES ROUTLEDGE, RESURFACES ON SOCIAL MEDIA – The young British student who made headlines for traveling to Afghanistan in 2022 is now reputedly passing updates through a friend on X (formerly Twitter). The most recent updates attributed to Routledge say he is living a luxurious life and is even considering investing in a gold mining operation. Routledge’s family told journalists they have no idea if their son is safe or is being treated well. They also said that Britain’s Foreign Office had not yet contacted them about their son.

  • AFGHAN EMBASSY IN INDIA MAY BE CLOSING – The diplomatic ruckus over who runs the Embassy of Afghanistan in India has heated up again. An email purportedly sent from the Embassy’s email servers was sent to the Government of India and announced the Embassy would be closing operations. Indian authorities were investigating the validity of the message and attempting to contact the Ambassador, Farid Mamundzay (who is in London). The Ambassador found himself embroiled in a coup when a deputy claimed that Kabul had put him in charge. Ambassador Mamundzay disputed the claims while he was in London and India appeared to have let the matter work itself out.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Kunar: ISIS-K militants reportedly attacked an unidentified Taliban position in the province. Eye witnesses said that 1 Taliban fighter was killed in the exchange of fire.

NEXT 24 HOURS
A THREAT OF A TTP INCURSION INTO KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA IS CIRCULATING – At this point, the threat is mainly rumor but seems logical considering recent statements made by officials in both Islamabad and Kabul. Estimates vary substantially over how many armed TTP fighters remain in Afghanistan. Early estimates (April 2022) put the figure at 5,000 while more recent estimates suggest it may be closer to 2,000. The tension along the border has been running high and Pakistan’s security forces are on high alert. Any incursion by the TTP in sizable numbers is likely to invite violence on a scale that has not been witnessed on this border since the Taliban took power in Kabul. Non-combatants could easily be caught up in the fighting. At-risk Afghans should avoid the border region if at all possible for the time being. If reports arrive that an action is underway, we will issue an ALERT message with as much information as we can gather. Otherwise, we are hoping this is only a rumor and doesn’t come to pass.

[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • AFGHAN EMBASSY IN INDIA DRAMA CONTINUES – The situation at the Afghanistan Embassy in New Delhi has yet to be resolved and an internal power struggle has continued between legacy diplomats from the old regime and an envoy that has claimed he represents the Taliban. Ambassador Farid Mamundzay was appointed to the position by former President Ashraf Ghani and continued serving Afghan citizens in India after the Taliban came to power. Qadir Shah, formerly a mid-level diplomat on Mamundzay’s staff but who was said to be writing the Taliban and requesting to be appointed in Mamundzay’s stead has given the Indian Ministry of External Affairs his letters of accreditation from the Taliban. For its part, the Indian government has said the internal issues of the embassy need to be solved by the embassy and that they would consider the matter an internal one.

  • IRAN CLAIMS IT IS MAKING HEADWAY IN NEGOTIATIONS OVER WATER RIGHTS WITH THE TALIBAN – While details on what was achieved in the recent round of talks between the two countries have not been shared, Iran’s Foreign Minister said in a statement to reporters that progress was made and the negotiations were proceeding fairly. The talks are being followed closely after a flare-up at the border resulted in several deaths. On a regional level, other countries like Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are monitoring the talks as Afghanistan gets closer to completing the Qosh Tepa canal project that is expected to divert a significant portion of water from the Amu Darya River which forms the border between Afghanistan and the two Northern neighbors. Both countries have stated concerns that the completion of the Qosh Tepa will be a point of contention in the future.

  • EUROPEAN UNION AND CENTRAL ASIA SUMMIT ON AFGHANISTAN CONCLUDES – The summit was the second meeting between the two bodies and a similar result was issued from the meeting whereby all parties again voiced concerns about the potential for exported terrorism from Afghanistan, the ban on women working in humanitarian sectors, the ban on females in education, and the lack of inclusive representation in the government.

  • SENIOR TALIBAN COMMANDER VISITS BORDER AREA IN NIMROZ – The 215th Corps Commander, Alhaji Mullah Sharafuddin Taqi, was in Nimroz on Wednesday and Thursday to visit Taliban security forces that have been deployed along the border after the clashes with Iranian troops took place. Taqi visited two of the border checkpoints and held sessions with local commanders and civil leaders to discuss concerns about future potential conflicts. No incidents were reported during his visit.

POSSIBLE SECOND SECURITY OPERATION IN NANGARHAR PLANNED – A source in Kabul said that information gleaned from four cellphones recovered from the site of a raid that resulted in the death of an ISIS-K leader and his associate has convinced Taliban intelligence officials that two additional ISIS-K safe houses are located in the Province and that at least one of them was occupied by members of the terrorist group. The source could not provide locations of the possible impending actions but said that GDI agents were staging near the previous raid site in preparation for more raids. At-risk Afghans in the Province should be prepared to see clash(s) in the near future.

New Bangladesh police chief is US-sanctioned former head of RAB
2022-10-01
[BenarNews] Bangladesh’s new police chief is a U.S.-sanctioned former head of the elite security unit Rapid Action Battalion, which Washington also sanctioned last December saying it was responsible for serious human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
abuses.

Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah al-Mamun, took over the position on Friday, and was promoted by the government after serving as director general of the Rapid Action Battalion, or RAB.
So he's already trained
He was one of seven then-current or former RAB officials who were placed under American sanctions along with the unit in December 2021 by the U.S. Treasury Department for alleged human rights violations, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, cases of torture and other abuses.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal defended Abdullah when BenarNews asked him about the wisdom of appointing a U.S.-sanctioned officer as national police chief.

"Sanctioning Chowdhury Abdullah al-Mamun is not a fair decision," the minister told BenarNews.

"He has been facing sanctions only for holding the office of director general of RAB.

He has been an honest, industrious and a man of principle. He is the senior most police official, and retires in four months," he added.

The U.S. Treasury Department sanctions bar U.S. citizens from conducting business with or making contributions to the sanctioned individuals and block access to any property they hold in the United States.

Abdullah’s immediate predecessor as police chief, Benazir Ahmed, was also sanctioned by Washington last year because of his association with RAB. He was a former RAB director general.

The United States accused RAB of more than 600 enforced disappearances in the past 12 years, a similar number of extrajudicial killings, and the use of torture.

"Widespread allegations of serious human rights abuse in Bangladesh by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) ... threaten U.S. national security interests by undermining the rule of law and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the economic prosperity of the people of Bangladesh," the U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement when it announced the sanctions.

RAB was founded in 2004, and charged with internal security, intelligence gathering related to criminal activities, and government-directed investigations, according to the U.S. treasury.

2022-05-16
[IRAQSUN] Speaking of the recent arrest of 16 people having links with terror outfits Ansarul Bangla Team (ABT) and al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), Assam Director general of police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Sunday said that the police handed over one case to National Investigation Agency (NIA).

DGP said, "One particular case has already been handed over to NIA and shared information with Interpol to crack down Islamic radical groups in the state. NIA acted very actively. There are other cases also registered, I am sure NIA will like to take the other cases as well.""Some of them have been caught and some of them gave us a slip. But we have arrested a major network of activists, and we have also arrested several kingpins who have taken the lead. We found the links in Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, and Bengal. Some of them have given a slip to Bangladesh. So we have to take locked up activities accordingly," he added.

The DGP said that the police team made arrests from Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, and Bengal, while some of them ran escaped to Bangladesh.

"The people who were caught from MP underwent training here. The people who bravely ran away to Tripura, we caught them from there. One of them has given a lead we are investigating. Bengal police are also cooperating in the operation," DGP said.

He said that these people come here with visas for tourism purposes. But then violate the visa law and stay back to spread the words of Jihad.

"Actually, the visa is a problem, they come for medical tourism but they come here to proselytize the words of Jihad. So, we are keeping a hoax eye. And we will not allow any violation of visa law."In a long-drawn Operation on April 25, Assam Police busted several modules of terror outfits ABT, and AQIS in Assam, arresting 16 people so far.

After the operation, the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had termed the police operation a huge success of intelligence and an example of courage"It's a huge intelligence success and a true example of courage and dedication of Assam Police. Total Arrests so far -16," added Sarma.
