Imran, Qadri protest to the same tune
2014-08-22
[DAWN] The Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) decided to call off talks with the federal government in protest of what it claimed to be the government's efforts to prevent movement in Islamabad's 'Red Zone'. Moments after this announcement, Dr Tahirul Qadri
...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him...
addressed supporters, lambasting the government for restricting movement.

Senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi said the party has decided that the negotiations will stay suspended until the government stops the "crackdown against party workers".

Speaking to Dawn, PTI leader and member of the negotiations committee Dr Arif Alvi claimed that the government is not serious about dialogue.

"They should tell us where they want to take this dialogue. They have 'containerised' us. It is impossible to get into or out of the Red zone," said Alvi.

"We cannot negotiate with them as long as they continue with their crackdown (against party workers)," he said.

Additionally, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that PTI will not start the negotiation process with the government until additional containers — which have been placed again — are not removed.

PTI chairman Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
has earlier claimed that the government has tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
over 4,000 PTI workers.

The announcement to call off talks comes after a delegation of PTI leaders — comprising Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Jahangir Tareen, Arif Alvi and Asad Umar — met a government-backed team of negotiators on Wednesday night. The government team included Abdul Qadir Baloch, Ahsan Iqbal and Ijazul Haq among others.

Imtiaz Alam challenges state
Quoted on the front page of Jinnah secretary general of South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) Imtiaz Alam stated that unless the state is able to protect the lives of citizens under democracy it will lead to a military takeover. Responding to an earlier statement by President Zardari, he said that no president ever admits lack of state capacity to defend citizens. If conditions will improve by saying that we are not a part of America's war then declare it openly. All religious parties and jihadis should come out in the open and elect Mullah Umar as their leader and put their programme in front of the nation. But if they can't do that then they should not kill innocent Mohammedans in the streets. The state should never openly admit defeat. He said a large army was built in order defend the people of Pakistain. He said today if the MQM was scared of the Taliban then the others will simply surrender (kis bagh ki mooli).

Habib Bank scandal and Mehran Bank scandal
Writing in Dunya Rauf Klasra stated that the Supreme Court had rendered judgement on the Habib Bank scam and not the Mehran Bank scam. Aslam Beg
...occasionally incoherent retired four-star general who was the Chief of Army Staff of the Mighty Pak Army, succeeding the creepy General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, after the latter was rubbed out died in an air crash in 1988. The general was involved up to his hairy ears in the Mehran bank scandal, shuffling millions in public money to buy or lease politicians, and is believed one of the prime movers in the sale of Pak nuclear technology to Iran. He ranks second only to Hamid Gul in the volume and flavor of his anti-Western vitriol..
had asked a Habib Bank officer Younis Habib that he arrange a large sum for bribing IJI in 1990. Younis Habib deposited Rs 14 crore with ISI and MI which was distributed by General Durrani. Mehran Bank scandal was a different scandal. This happened in 1992 when Aslam Beg and Durrani had retired and Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
was prime minister. Younis Habib was kicked out of Habib Bank for fraud but he founded his own bank Mehran Bank with the help of PMLN chief Nawaz Sharif, minister Sartaj Aziz and Sindh chief minister Jam Sadiq Ali. Nawaz Sharif got loans from Mehran Bank for his industries and Sartaj Aziz got a lot (bahut kuchch) for his son Adnan. Jam Sadiq also got crores for letting the bank be opened. There is a list of other recipients in existence. In 1993, after the PPP returned to power, many of its leaders too benefited from Mehran Bank, including President Farooq Leghari.

Mushahid Hussain's dubious wedding gift
Daily Dunya quoted Indian journalist Kuldip Nayar as saying that Mushahid Hussain got him to meet Dr AQ Khan for a crucial revelation about Pakistain's nuclear programme as a 'wedding gift' of Mushahid to the world. Nayar said that Dr Khan was made to cough up the secret of Pakistain's bomb by getting him to fly into a rage. In truth, Pakistain wished to threaten India through Dr Khan. General Zia was not pleased and became angry with Dr Khan.

Fazal Karim's angle on Malala
Leader of Barelvi Sunni Ittehad Council Fazal Karim told Ausaf that the man who tried to kill Malala was in the custody of the US army in Afghanistan, implying that the attack was planned by the Americans. He further said that Taliban were acting on behalf of the US and the government should finish off (qala-qama) the American Taliban.

Admiral who went 'mirasi'
Quoted in Nawa-e-Waqt Admiral (Retd) Javed Iqbal said he had been reduced to the status of a mirasi (low caste praise singer) of Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
who had turned into a party despot. He said Imran Khan had imposed slavish-to-America politicians (kuttay nehalanay walay) while he Javed Iqbal had challenged Musharraf (lalkara).

Jews did 9/11
Famous columnist Abdul Qadir Hasan wrote in Express that America was not what it used to be in old times. It had become a tormentor of the world robbing it of peace and tranquillity. The incident of 9/11 was staged by the Jews to make America attack the world of Islam. But some Arab countries still had remnants of ghairat (honour) in them because after some years they staged what is called Arab Spring although in Pakistain nothing of the sort happened because it had no honour. The Arabs had simple guns but in their heart was great emotion (walwala). In Pakistain a leader (Musharraf?) started selling Paks to America because bay-ghairati was common in Pakistain.

'Aslam Beg told me to bribe politicians'
Famous ISI ex-boss General Asad Durrani was quoted in Jang as saying that he was ordered by President Ghulam Ishaq Khan's adviser Ijlal Zaidi and Army Chief Aslam Beg to spend the crores gathered from the donors of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It may be the largest city in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
as 'chanda' to the IJI politicians. The industrialists of Bloody Karachi were opposed to the return of the PPP to power, he said.

Abida Hussain will return the bribe!
Quoted in Nawa-e-Waqt former minister and senior politician Syeda Abida Hussain stated that she had indeed received money from the ISI in 1990 in order to defeat the PPP in elections. She said she was prepared to return the sum along with interest.

GIK ate a lot of guava
Writing in Dunya famous columnist Haroon Rashid stated that he always revered President Ghulam Ishaq Khan because he was an extraordinary man despite the grave mistakes he had made. He was told by Qazi Hussain Ahmad
... third president (1987—2009) of the Pak Jamaat-e-Islami. Qazi was also head of the Muttahidah Majlis-e-Amal until his ego became bigger than the organization. Qazi is what is known as a fiery preacher, which means he has lots of volume, a good delivery, and not a lot of reverence for coherence. He was the patron of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Rasool Sayyaf and Osama bin Laden during the war against the Soviets. He used to recommend drining camel's urine to maintain good health before his kidneys started to go...
that GIK would not give him food if he called on him. On the contrary he gave him dinner and himself ate like a trooper despite his old age. Dr AQ Khan reported that GIK was also partial to guava fruit and ate it copiously.

Ijazul Haq renews attack on Aslam Beg
Quoted in Ausaf son of late General Zia, Ijazul Haq said that ex-Army Chief Aslam Beg was the criminal mastermind of the Bahawalpur air-crash that killed his father. He vowed that he would take the death of his father at the hands of Aslam Beg to the Supreme Court.

Religious organizations attack school
Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt religious organizations in Lahore got together and attacked a private school Farooqi Girls High School after parents protested that a teacher had distributed blasphemous material among students in the class. Instead of recourse to law the parents began agitation and were soon joined by religious elements who set fire to the school and its van before taking to the roads and stoning the passing cars. The police lathi-charged the mob then placed in long-term storage
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
the principal-owner of the school who said the whole affair was a plot to close down his school. It was discovered that the papers distributed in class were wrongly stapled.

Chief news hound attacks fashion shows
Chief news hound of daily The News wrote in Jang that fashion shows and catwalks were being organised in the beginning of the month of Hajj which was a sacred month in the Islamic calendar. Allah had given Mohammedans opportunity of avoiding the fire of Hell but the catwalks were promoting nakedness (uriani) and shamelessness (bay-hayai). According to him, he had earlier written a column about this obscenity which was greatly praised by people in Pakistain, leading to a notice by the Supreme Court which ordered the stoppage of all obscenity on the media. Yet the TV channels went on showing half-naked fashion models in violation of the Constitution. Bloody Karachi became the hub of this lascivious activity but 'no louse crawled on the ears of the Bloody Karachi administration' (had no effect).

Lal Masjid operation: SC moved for registering cases against 22 persons
2012-05-09
[Dawn] A former nazim
...small time big shot, the chief elected official of a local government in Pakistan, such as a district, tehsil, union council, or village council...
of Jamia Hafsa on Monday approached the Supreme Court seeking direction to the police to register cases against 22 persons, including former President Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
and ex-Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for their alleged role in the killing of innocent people and desecration of the holy Koran during the Lal Masjid operation in the year 2007.

On May 4, separate complaints were lodged by 11 people against the 22 persons with the Aabpara police. The police registered the complaints in its daily diary and issued separate numbers to the complainants.

The police also sent the complaints to its prosecution department for legal opinion.

When contacted, Advocate Tarqi Asad, the counsel for petitioner Maulana Abdul Qayyum, the former nazim and teacher of the seminary, said a request was also made to the apex court to take up the matter on Tuesday (today) when another identical petition would be heard.

The petition named as respondents the secretary interior, inspector general of Islamabad police and the station house officer (SHO) of Aabpara. The court was requested to order the SHO to register criminal cases against those responsible for the deaths of the innocent persons and desecration of the holy Koran.

"Deaths caused during the operation were in violation of Articles 9, 10, 10-A and 14 of the constitution. Besides, desecration of the holy Koran is against the sentiments of Mohammedans and a violation of Article 20," the petition said.

It stated that as per finding of the apex court on October 2, 2007, 103 bodies had been recovered from the premises out of which only 16 could be identified. The remaining were handed over to their families, but 12 of them were not accepted due to lack of identification.

The petitioner added that as per statements of principal Majida Younus alias Umme Hassan and a former student of Jamia Hafsa, Ayesha, recorded in the same court order, about 1,300 orphan students were on the premises who remained untraceable. "The number of those killed was very high but only 103 deaths were admitted by the respondents."

The petitioner stated that in the court's order it was also admitted that 662 persons were tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
and later released. "But the fact is that most of them were never released and they were either killed or are still in detention."

The claim can be verified from the statement of one of the legal heirs of the victims, Ghulam Mohammad that he had seen his son when he was tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
but his whereabouts was never known afterwards.

The petitioner claimed that another man -- Muzammil Shah -- had informed the court during the last hearing that his son Mohammad Ali was alive till July 6, 2007, but after that nothing was known about him.

In view of the order, legal heirs of the victims had been filing applications with the police and civil authorities from time to time requesting them to register criminal cases against the responsible persons. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
they were told that only the Ministry of Law and Justice could allow registration of such cases.

The petitioner pleaded that FIR be registered on charges of murder and desecration of the holy Koran against the former president and prime minister as well as Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, former federal and state ministers Mohammad Ali Durrani and Tariq Azeem, former religious affairs minister Ijazul Haq, former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, former foreign minister Khurshid Kasuri, former Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, former environment minister Faisal Saleh Hayat, director crisis management cell Javaid Iqbal Cheema, General (retired) Javed Majeed, then director general (operation) Rangers General Hussain Mehdi, former secretary interior Syed Kamal Shah, former IGP Islamabad Iftikhar Ahmad, former deputy commissioner Islamabad Chaudhry Mohammad Ali, former SSP Islamabad Capt (retired) Zafar Iqbal, former chief commissioner Islamabad Khalid Pervaiz, former DIG Islamabad Shahid Nadeem Baloch, former DG ISPR Waheed Arshad, former chairman CDA Kamran Lashari and those who participated in the operation.

Besides, the petitioner also prayed the court to set aside the December 27, 2011, agreement signed between Umme Hassan and the government under which the victims' families would not make any claim or get any case registered against anyone in future.

Maulana Ludhianvi released
2012-03-30
[Dawn] Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) leader Maulana Mohammad Ahmed Ludhianvi was released from police custody on bail in the early hours of Wednesday.

He had been jugged in the Industrial Area cop shoppe on Tuesday night under PPC 188 (on violation of Section PPC 144).

Earlier, politician Ijazul Haq, ASWJ leader Fazalur Rehman Khalil and Abdullah Gul, son of Lt-Gen (retired) Hamid Gul
The nutty former head of Pakistain's ISI, now Godfather to Mullah Omar's Talibs and good buddy and consultant to al-Qaeda's high command...
, brought Maulana Ludhianvi to the cop shoppe after getting assurance from the police and administration that he would neither be placed in long-term storage nor jugged. But, legal formalities would be carried out for face saving of the police and administration, it was decided.

The police started the paperwork but haven't done much else and the city administration later granted him bail. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
when Interior Minister Rehman Malik
Pak politician, current Interior Minister under the Gilani administration. Malik is a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) intelligence officer who rose to head the FIA during Benazir Bhutto's second tenure. He later joined the Pak Peoples Party and was chief security officer to Bhutto. Malik was tossed from his FIA job in 1998 after documenting the breath-taking corruption of the Sharif family. By unhappy coincidence Nawaz Sharif became PM at just that moment and Malik moved to London one step ahead of the button men.
got information about the bail, he blocked the bail orders.

Delay in the release of Maulana Ludhianvi provoked the activists of ASWJ, who created law and order situation on I.J. Principal Road and set tyres on fire.

After offering Tahajud prayers, Maulana Ludhianvi inquired from the police as well as the administration about his release, but he got no reply and continued to remain in detention till Fajr prayers.

After the activists started marching towards the cop shoppe from I.J. Principal Road, the interior minister was approached by the administration and police and informed about the consequences of detaining Maulana Ludhianvi.

On getting permission from the minister, a court was set up in the cop shoppe which heard the proceeding of the case registered with Industrial Area cop shoppe. A lawyer argued the case and later Maulana Ludhianvi was granted bail on two
surety bonds each worth Rs50,000.

The office of the city administration was also opened to issue the bail orders with the official seal of the officer concerned, and finally Maulana Ludhianvi was released.

Banned leaders give tough time to administration
2012-03-29
[Dawn] It may be the 'high security' capital of a country grappling with terrorism that is chock-a-block with police, rangers and check posts but Islamabad and its security apparatus proved no match for two banned leaders.

For six hours, Maulana Mohammad Ahmed Ludhianvi, leader of the banned outfit Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa
...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
chief Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat...
played a game of cat and mouse with the Islamabad police on Tuesday.

They appeared and disappeared; were stopped and freed; intercepted in their cars and protected by their armed guards, as crowds gathered to watch the spectacle and traffic jams ensued.

Eventually the harassed, red-faced and embarrassed coppers managed to hold Maulana Ludhianvi, only after negotiations and while Saeed beat feet.

He was shifted to Industrial area cop shoppe and started the paperwork but haven't done much else under PPC section 188 on the complaint of a police officer. Within minutes, however, the city administration granted him bail.

At this point interior minister Rehman Malik
Pak politician, current Interior Minister under the Gilani administration. Malik is a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) intelligence officer who rose to head the FIA during Benazir Bhutto's second tenure. He later joined the Pak Peoples Party and was chief security officer to Bhutto. Malik was tossed from his FIA job in 1998 after documenting the breath-taking corruption of the Sharif family. By unhappy coincidence Nawaz Sharif became PM at just that moment and Malik moved to London one step ahead of the button men.
intervened and blocked his bail orders.

Maulana Ludhianvi was not released till the filing of this report.

He, along with Hafiz Saeed, had appeared at Parade Ground, defying a ban on their entry into Islamabad, to participate in a protest and sit-in organised by Defaa-e-Pakistain Council (DFC) against the government's presumed move to restore NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
supplies. He somehow got information that the capital police and administration were going to arrest them, after which both the leaders disappeared from the Parade Ground. Later Maulana Ludhianvi was spotted at the camp of missing persons' families while delivering speech.

Secretariat Police SHO, however, intercepted him and held him while he was leaving the camp by saying that "the police are arresting you in connection with the case registered with Margalla cop shoppe." But Maulana Ludhianvi demanded his arrest warrant.

As the police failed to produce the arrest warrant, the activists of ASWJ took their leader away in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

This led to alerting of the patrolling officers and coppers deployed at the checkpoints. They were asked to check each and every vehicle.

Besides, the police also blocked the slipways and attached roads of main arteries to intercept and arrest Maulana Ludhianvi.

As a result, hundreds of vehicles were stuck up in the worst traffic jam making miles long queues on I.J. Principal Road,
Expressway, Islamabad Highway and Ninth Avenue.

At around 6pm, the vehicle of Maulana Ludhianvi was spotted in the traffic jam on the Ninth Avenue near Industrial Area cop shoppe while heading towards Rawalpindi. In response, the police placed blocks and parked their vehicles on the avenue.

All the SHOs, sub-divisional coppers, superintendents of police, were called at the Ninth Avenue along with contingent of Anti-Terrorism Squad, Anti-Riot Unit and police reserves to intercept and arrest the Maulana.

The guards of Maulana Ludhianvi -- Punjab Police commandoes -- aimed their weapons at the capital police and the officers while the activists cordoned their leader's vehicle to avoid his arrest.

Later the activists of ASWJ removed the blocks from the road and made the way for their leader. However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
the driver of Superintendent of Police City Circle chased the SUV and intercepted it on I.J. Principal Road.

Maulana Ludhianvi again demanded his arrest warrant, but neither the police nor any assistant commissioner or magistrate issued it. Later politician Ijazul Haq, ASWJ's leader Fazaur Rehman Khalil and Abdullah Gul, son of Hamid Gul
The nutty former head of Pakistain's ISI, now Godfather to Mullah Omar's Talibs and good buddy and consultant to al-Qaeda's high command...
, also reached the spot for negotiation.

In the meantime, Deputy Commissioner Amir Ahmed Ali also reached and thorough negotiations were held between the DC, SSP Yousuf, Mr Haq, Maulana Khalil and Abdullah Gul. After half an hour negotiation Mr Haq, Maulana Khalil and Mr Gul returned to take Maulana Ludhianvi to cop shoppe.

Before leaving the spot Maulana Ludhianvi addressed the activists and asked them to remain there. Till the filling of the report, negotiations were still in progress in the cop shoppe.

Jihadis on the march again
2012-01-24
[Dawn] Whether the rally held here on Sunday for the defence of Pakistain was to revive the Jihadi spirit of the 1980s or to voice genuine concern at the threats that government policies may pose in the long-term would be known later, but the show at the Liaquat Bagh was not much impressive.

The 'defence of Pakistain rally' witnessed a gathering of Jihadi groups, radical Islamists, sectarian warriors and even some mashaikh.

Apart from various rightwing or pro-rightwing groups belonging to Pakistain Defence Council, comprising 44 politico-religious parties, the rally was also participated by the leadership of two Rawalpindi-based factions of Pakistain Mohammedan League and two former army generals. Almost all the speakers threatened to take over Islamabad by force if the NATO

supplies were restored and India was granted the MFN (most favoured nation) status.

The rally was also attended by Jamaat-e-Islami

The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. He was Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistain in 1992-93, and became Secretary General in 1993. "This will show the Americans that we are united like Taliban of Afghanistan for our independence," said Umar Gul, of Tehrik Irshad-i-Tauheed wa Sunnah, who came from Swabi. He said such show of strength would stop drone attacks.

one worker of Ahle Sunnah Wal Jamaat (former Sipah-i-Sahaba), who came from Narang Mandi of Mandi Bahauddin, said they wanted the restriction on their party lifted.
"This is unfair and all done at the behest of Americans as the US is afraid of Islamic revolution in Pakistain," he said.

Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Ijazul Haq criticised the religious leadership for not being united and having strong discord in their ranks.

"There are active conspiracies against the country but they are all successful only because of disagreement among the Islamists. It will all end the day Maulana Samiul Haq votes for Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ...
and vice versa," said Sheikh Rashid, the president of Awami Mohammedan League.

Spearheaded by Hafiz Saeed, leader of Jamaatud Dawa (JuD), the umbrella organization of the banned Lashkar-i-Taiba, the gathering also showcased the organizational strength of JuD as its workers managed all the arrangements, including security of the stage and the venue as a whole.

However,

none of the parties or the participants displayed weapons while armed police personnel were seen around Liaquat Bagh and at the stage.

Addressing the gathering, Maulana Samiul Haq took oath from the participants that the Islamists would surround the parliament if the government reopened the NATO supply routes.

"Jehad against the US aggressors will continue in Afghanistan till the American forces are forced to retreat back," said the Maulana.

Meanwhile,
...back at the scene of the crime, Lieutenant Queeg had an idea: there was a simple way to tell whether Manetti had been the triggerman -- just look at his shoes!...
JuD leader Hafiz Saeed dispelled the impression created by other speakers that the rally could provide a platform to Islamist rightwing groups or his entry into national politics.

"We are neither a political alliance nor having any aim to overthrow the government but only want an end to American interference in Pakistain. America cannot
be Pakistain's friend."

He added that the Taliban in Afghanistan and the people of Pakistain were one entity, adding: "We are all in Jehad against the US aggressors."

He also warned the government against granting MFN status to India. "I tell you that an aggressive movement will be launched if any interest of sacred land (Pakistain) is compromised for India."

The rally also provided a chance to the banned beturbanned goon groups to show their presence in the public -- one reception stall was established by Ahle Sunnah wal Jamaat showcasing its old name Sipah Sahaba Pakistain (SSP) which has been banned, and the workers were openly distributing party flags to the participants.

Some even paid tributes to the banned groups, saying they had suffered at the hands of policy makers and were now ready to render sacrifices for defence of the country.

"The leaders of the country should see that those who had been banned and persecuted for 10 years are now at the forefront to defend the country," Gen (retired) Hamid Gul

said.

"The decision taken by our leaders to please the Americans has only caused sufferings for Mohammedan nation in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistain and elsewhere."

The former head of ISI said people were being called to defend the country because successive governments and politicians did not do their job well during the last 10 years.

"We have strong presence of 2.5 million ex-servicemen who will come out and along with the courageous Islamists free Islamabad of the US agents," he added.

The speakers said the public meeting was aimed to give a message of solidarity with the Paks and make a call for independent foreign and internal policies.

While being a strong opponent of taking pictures of living beings on religious grounds, Hafiz Saeed was seen talking on camera with the foreign media.

Though strong speeches and powerful rhetoric were witnessed against the government and politicians for their proposals to reopen NATO supply routes and grant MFN status to India, the leaders of the Islamic groups refrained from criticising the armed forces.

Pakistan demo raps US policies, strikes
2012-01-23
[Iran Press TV] Thousands of Paks from 40 different religious and political groups have held a demonstration to condemn Washington's policies and the unsanctioned US drone strikes on the country's tribal region, Press TV reports.

The Sunday rally in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, about 24 kilometers south of the capital Islamabad, was one of the biggest anti-US demonstrations to be recently held in the country, a Press TV correspondent reported from the city.

The angry demonstrations rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud against the US and its activities in Pakistain. "Until the destruction of the United States, we'll keep fighting against it," shouted one activist attending the rally that was arranged by the Defense of Pakistain Council, which is an alliance of 40 religious and political parties.

The organizers say the massive turnout at the rally serves as a referendum against, what they described as, the unjust policies of the United States vis-à-vis Pakistain.

Relations between the two sides have notably soured over the unauthorized attacks, with Pakistain insisting that the Arclight airstrikes violate its illusory sovereignty.

Speakers at the demonstration delivered hard-hitting speeches, urging the government to cease its cooperation with Washington's so-called war on terror.

Some of them even suggested that Pakistain had to prevent the US aircraft from using its airspace on their way to and from Afghanistan. "There are 400 daily US flights from Afghanistan, and Pakistain should shut this air corridor for the US," one participant said.

The rally was attended by the religious groups, Jamaatud Dawa and Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam

Religious parties oppose action in N. Waziristan
2011-10-26
[Dawn] Participants of a multi-party conference here on Monday pledged to offer every sacrifice for the defence of the country, demanding unequivocal refusal by the government to conduct army action in North Wazoo.

Around 60 religious and political parties and prominent individuals, including those representing minorities and tribal areas, attended the conference that was not attended by most of the mainstream parties.

The participants lamented the government failure to implement resolutions passed by the parliament and the recently held All-Party Conference (APC).

It demanded the government should declare in clear terms that no army operation would be conducted in the North Waziristan and US drones violating Pakistain's airspace would be shot down.

It also called upon the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of drone attacks, alleging the US was using chemical weapons against unarmed civilians.

The conference opposed Most Favourite Nation (MFN) status for India and called for 'open support' to the freedom movement in occupied Kashmire.

Regretting at the absence of most of the mainstream political parties including the PPP, PML-N, PML-F, PTI, MQM and ANP from the conference, the participants said it reflected the 'intentions' of these parties. The conference was presided over by the JUI-S chief Maulana Samiul Haq while prominent among the participants were JI's Munawwar Hasan, Jamaatud Dawa's Prof Saeed, PML-Q's Chaudhry Zaheer, Gen (retired) Hameed Gul, AML's Sheikh Rashid, PML-Z' Ijazul Haq, Ayatollah Najfi, Pastor Ibrah Deniel, Sirdar Sham Singh, MQM-H's Shamshad Ghauri, Gen (retired) Muhammad Shafiq, and Ajmal Wazir from Waziristan.
