[Garowe] Four members of the Somali National Army [SNA] were killed on Monday following a roadside explosion in Mogadishu, the Somalia capital, authorities confirmed, in an attack which comes at the time the country has heightened the fight against al-Shabaab![]() Death Eaters. The explosion went off in Daynile District of Mogadishu, the Ministry of Defence confirmed. This is the first major explosion in the capital in as many months which has been relatively safe following the deployment of Uganda-trained soldiers who were dispatched to the capital recently. Brigadier General Abdullahi Ali Anod, the ministry's spokesperson, said that the attack occurred at about 9 a.m. and that three soldiers and an officer with the construction unit had been killed. He affirmed that security is tight in Mogadishu despite the unfortunate explosion. Somalia-based al-Shabaab hard boyz grabbed credit for the attack but did not reveal the immediate target. Since the government launched an offensive against al-Shabaab, the number of explosions through Improvised Explosive Devices [IEDs] has significantly reduced, he added. "We are not saying the earth-shattering kabooms stopped, but we are saying they weakened," Anod said. He added that the government had been expecting a rise in attacks during the month of Ramadan, but that did not happen. "The enemy is maimed, but they can still fire bullets," he said. The US Africa Command confirmed on Monday that it had targeted Jilib town, the headquarters of al-Shabaab but did not give further details. This comes a few hours after the group released a video purportedly of their leader Abu Ubaidah, whose whereabouts remain unknown. A joint report by the United Nations ...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships... Al-Shabaab has brought dishonor to Somalia and Islam, says IIhan Omar |
2022-12-29 |
[Garowe] Congresswoman Ilhan Omar ...Somali- AmericanDem representative from Minnesota. She was apparently married to her brother and may be her own grandmaw on her mother's side... has once again lambasted the al-Shabaab ![]() bully boyz for bringing dishonor to Moslems and the people of Somalia given their cowardly attacks usually targeting innocent civilians and members of the security forces. Ms. Omar, who has been touring the Horn of Africa, noted the progress made by the Somali National Army [SNA], the US Africa Command, and the African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] in the fight against al-Shabaab bad boys. The Somali-born politician has already met President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, and the cabinet. She has now embarked on the trip to Djibouti where she is set to meet a host of top government officials for engagement. While noting the successes made against the bad boys, Ms. Omar also asked locals to collaborate with the government in defeating the group she accused of "dishonoring" Islam. "Our country and our religion have been associated with terrorism [because] of the dishonor they brought on us," she said. "We have to get rid of them as Somalis and as Moslems and pray and support each other in that work." With assistance from local militia, the government of Somalia has managed to flush out the bully boyz from strategic areas where they have been using to unleash attacks. Most of these towns are under full custody of Somalia security forces according to the government. On Tuesday, it emerged that the bully boyz had now imposed restrictions on the largest telecommunication company Hormuud for unknown reasons. Brigadier General Abdullahi Ali Anod, the spokesperson of the Somali National Army confirmed the restrictions. "We heard that we have received it," he said in an interview as reported by the Voice of America. He said Hormuud has been repairing telecommunication centers, and masts and restoring services in newly recaptured territories. "They are on standby, wherever the army arrives," he said. Al-Shabaab has been losing ground across the country due to multidisciplinary engagement which has been getting support across the world. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud insisted that most areas in Galmadug and HirShabelle states would be liberated by the end of this year. |

Al-Shabaab accused of displacing civilians in Somalia |
2022-12-18 |
[Garowe] al-Shabaab![]() gunnies are deliberately displacing civilians in the country, the Somali National Army [SNA] has said, noting that the al-Qaeda group is targeting villages which it is in full control as the military wrestles to liberate them. According to the military, the strategy is devised in a way that villagers are prevented from collaborating with the government. Also, the gunnies are now kidnapping relatives of the local militia now helping the government forces to fight the group in different parts of the country. So far, the military says, over 70 villages have been liberated from the group since the crackdown started in August this year. One of the most dramatic successes took over Adan Yabal town within Middle Shabelle which was considered a stronghold for the krazed killers. Military officials said some of the residents fled when the fighting got closer, but others were ordered to leave prior to that by al-Shabaab. "They took many families with them because they accused them of letting their sons join the Ma'awisley, and said that their boys had taken up arms against al-Shabaab," said Brigadier General Abdullahi Ali Anod, spokesperson for the Somali military. The Ma'awisley are the local forces fighting alongside the Somali government. According to Anod, the gunnies are hell-bent to block locals from associating with the government which is mandated to provide basic services to the people of Somalia. "We are fighting over territory and over the people." He said the terror group is exercising a strategy that instructs their local commanders, "If you lose the territory, do not lose the people." Last week, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud confirmed that the gunnies displaced many people who were living in Adan Yabal, with the group maintaining that over 10,000 were residents. The group's shadow governor for the Middle Shabelle region, Yusuf Isse Kabakutukade, denied the group kidnapped the civilians. He said the president's remarks accusing al-Shabaab of kidnapping residents of Adan Yabaal were a "lie" and "surprising." "No one can kidnap 10,000 humans," Kabakutukade told the group's radio station. "Even if 10,000 people were kidnapped and taken by force, I would say where in the Middle Shabelle region do you detain 10,000 people?" He acknowledged that the residents had left the town but gave different reasons for that. "Some took up their arms, and they are in the forest with the mujahedeen, and some wanted to stay away from his [the president's] fitnah [trouble]," Kabakutukade said. Al-Shabaab has lost most strongholds to the government troops with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud insisting that the crackdown would continue in the coming months until the gunnies are completely subdued. The government is also receiving backing from the US Africa Command and African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... Seizing of strategic towns and villages has buoyed the operation against al-Shabaab, who have been pushed further to thickets and less dangerous areas where regrouping will be a major task. The federal government of Somalia insisted the ongoing operations are not about to end. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has insisted that the government will not relent in the latest onslaught while asking friendly nations to chip in and assist local forces to dislodge the murderous Moslems. Since taking over in May, Hassan Sheikh has activated several operations around the country. Al-Shabaab snuffies are said to be making close to $100 million annually with $24 million going directly to purchasing weapons. Two blasts kill over 20 in central Somalia |
2022-10-20 |
[ShabelleMedia] At least 21 people were killed in two separate bombings in the central Hirshabelle state of Somalia, officials said. A powerful boom-mobile went kaboom!in Jalalaqsi town when soldiers operating a security checkpoint intercepted a vehicle. The checkpoint is near local government buildings and a military base belonging to African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... peacekeepers from Djibouti. "At around 2:30 p.m., a vehicle arrived at the checkpoint, one of the soldiers collecting taxation pointed a gun and stopped it," said Mire Hussein Siyad, deputy district commissioner of Jalalaqsi. "When the gun was pointed at [it], the vehicle went kaboom!," Siyad told VOA Somali. He said Wednesday’s explosion killed at least 15 people, including the town’s two civilian leaders, Mayor Adan Mohammed Isse and Mohammed Nur Agajof Dabaashe, the district commissioner. Dabaashe was recently replaced as Jalalaqsi commissioner, but he had not handed over responsibility yet, Siyad said. Other victims included soldiers at the checkpoints and civilians including street vendors. The explosion destroyed a building near the checkpoint where the local officials were based. Siyad said two AU peacekeepers were maimed in the attack. Siyad said the target was the town’s main bridge. Meanwhile, ...back at the palazzo, Don Smilzo looked for an avenue of escape. The only window opened a hundred feet above the moat. The nearest of the hired assassins hold a bloody axe. The window was looking better all the time.... six other people including four non-combatants were killed a separate explosion, when a three-wheeled cycle of violence with explosives attached, struck the Bulobarde town bridge. The important bridge links Somalia’s south and central regions. Pictures taken by the witnesses show the earth-shattering kaboom partially damaged the bridge. The district commissioner of Bulobarde, Ahmed Mahad Nur, told VOA Somali that two men riding the cycle of violence drove it onto the bridge. He said one of the men jumped off before the earth-shattering kaboom while the second one detonated the explosive-laden cycle of violence and died in the blast. Nur said the man who jumped was shot and killed by security forces. He said troops seized two other cycle of violences laden with explosives. The officials said the two explosions were coordinated and intended to destroy the two bridges. "They wanted to bring down the two bridges at the same time," Siyad said. "It’s the most crucial bridge between the central and southern regions," said Nur. Nur vowed the local government will rebuild the damaged bridge. The al-Shabaab ![]() bad boy group immediately grabbed credit for the two attacks. Bulobarde and Jalalaqsi in the Hiran region (Hirshabelle state) have been the focal point of efforts to mobilize the local population against al-Shabaab. Somali army spokesperson General Abdullahi Ali Anod on Tuesday reported that government forces and local fighters are completing preparations for new operations against al-Shabaab in Hirshabelle, and in Southwest, Galmudug ...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth... and Jubaland states.
