Inside the new fifth column-Meet the CAIR-Linked Group That Aims To Place Muslim Americans in Federal Jobs | ||||
2025-03-26 | ||||
[WashingtonFreeBeacon] Muslim Americans in Public Service's ties to terrorist supporters could raise concerns about its efforts to place employees inside government Muslim Americans in Public Service is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that coordinates with federal agencies to help Muslims obtain and advance careers in government. To do so, it partners with Islamic organizations, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations,
In addition to CAIR, the nonprofit known as MAPS touts the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations as one of its partners and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) and Helping Hand for Relief and Development as two of its sponsors. MAPS has worked with CAIR to host events that bring together MAPS members "across all levels and branches of government." And while it does not disclose its donors, it says it receives "sizable in-kind donations" from its partners, as well as funding from "federal agencies," nonprofits, and state commissions.
While MAPS largely focuses on job-related issues that impact its members, it has weighed in on some political issues. The group criticized the Biden administration over its support for Israel in the war against Hamas, saying that it "disagrees with many of the policy positions taken by the current Administration." It also condemned the 2023 censure of Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.) over her statements calling for the eradication of Israel and denounced the removal of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee over anti-Semitic remarks. Since then, MAPS has hosted panels and networking events thanks to support from its terror-tied partners. Earlier this month, for example, MAPS hosted an event that ICNA and Helping Hand cosponsored. One of its featured speakers, Nicole Fauster-Bradford, is the community advocacy director at CAIR. She spoke alongside Sarah Khasawinah, a senior policy adviser in the Senate. Former ICNA president Mohsin Ansari has spread anti-Semitic tropes about the "liberal anti Muslim media headed by Jews," according to reports. He has also praised Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, a Bangladeshi cleric convicted of war crimes against Hindus, as a "very, very, very special person." Congress has investigated both ICNA and Helping Hand over their alleged links to Jamaat-e-Islami ... The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independentbranch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores... , a Pakistani terrorist group. CAIR, for its part, was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a federal Hamas financing case in 2008. The Biden White House distanced itself from the group after its executive director stated he was "happy" about the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023. In addition to the March event, MAPS held an annual networking event in January that ICNA and Helping Hand cosponsored. It featured Ansari as a speaker. In a statement sent to the Washington Free Beacon, MAPS said it "engages independent organizations with various audiences," like CAIR, ICNA, and Helping Hand, "to increase its civic engagement and reach those with a desire to serve the public." It did not answer questions on CAIR's Oct. 7 rhetoric and the groups' ties to terror organizations. MAPS thrived during the Biden administration and now boasts thousands of members, including intelligence community officials who hold high-level security clearances, according to Maaty, the group’s chairman.

State seeks death for war criminal Sayedee |

The attorney general's office submitted the petition yesterday to the Supreme Court registrar's office seeking Sayeedi's capital punishment handed down by the International Crimes Tribunal in 2013. This is the first case of war crimes trial in which the state has sought review to maintain the tribunal's verdict. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam at his office told news hounds that they had cited five reasons in support of Sayeedi's death sentence. They sought death penalty for Sayeedi for killing Ibrahim Kutti and Bisa Bali. He said the apex court would fix a date for conducting hearing on the review petition. Mahbubey said that the highest sentence could not be maintained due to failure of the investigation agency and the prosecution of the tribunal. Sayeedi, known as "Deilya Razakar" in 1971, was given the death penalty on February 28, 2013 after the war crimes tribunal found him guilty of committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War. He was sentenced to death for killing Ibrahim Kutti and one Bisa Bali in Pirojpur. The tribunal did not deliver sentence on the six other proven charges. The Jamaat-e-Islami ... On September 17, 2014, the Appellate Division's five-member bench headed by the then Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain delivered its short verdict based on majority judgement. The full verdict was published on December 31 last year. According to the rules, a review petition has to be filed within 15 days after the full verdict is published. The case against Sayeedi was the first of its kind under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973. The case faced great difficulties from its inception, having also been subjected to the greatest extent of conspiracies from quarters striving to derail the justice process, tribunal observers said. This included, among others, the abduction of a key prosecution witness, defence obtaining the register of prosecution witnesses in the safe house, hacking of personal computers of ICT judges and illegal interception of their personal communications -- all during the trial of Sayeedi. According to the state, the tribunal prosecutors had failed to provide the necessary documentary evidence in Sayeedi's case during the appeal hearing. Asked whether there was any precedence in any court across the globe of increasing sentence on a review petition, Mahbubey yesterday said: "I did not scrutinise all the review petitions. But there can be new developments during trials. It depends on the court." |

Of the 20 charges brought against him, Sayeedi was given death penalty for the murders of Ibrahim Kutti and Bisabali, and for setting fire to Hindu households in Pirojpur during the war. The Supreme Court reduced Sayeedi's death sentence in Ibrahim Kutti's murder to imprisonment for 12 years and awarded him imprisonment until death on three other charges -- for murder, rape and forceful conversion of Hindus. Six other charges were also proved beyond doubt but no sentencing followed as he had already been given the death penalty. |

"The state will file a review petition against the sentence [of Sayeedi] after getting the full judgement," Mahbubey told news hounds at his office. He hoped that the court would overturn the previous verdict and hand down capital punishment. The International Crimes Tribunal 1 had sentenced Sayeedi to death on February 28, 2013 for his complicity in crimes against humanity against the Hindus and freedom fighters in Pirojpur during the 1971 Liberation War. But in the appeal case verdict, the top court on September 17 commuted his punishment to imprisonment until death. The court is yet to release its full verdict. After the appeal case judgement, Prime Minister ![]() the Battling Begums.. , several ministers and war trial campaigners had expressed frustration over the sentence. On the other hand, the Jamaat members conducted massive attacks on the law enforcers, ruling party supporters and Hindus in many districts across the country in 2013 in protest against the tribunal verdict killing dozens of people and destroying state properties. Mahbubey, the top law officer of the country, also said that the full verdict in Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid's case would be published soon. The apex court gave its judgement upholding the tribunal's death sentence on June 16. Upon getting the full text of the judgement, the government will start process for executing the death row convict. The war criminal, who had acted as the chief of al-Badr force, can seek a review of the sentence once the full judgement is released. He can also seek presidential mercy admitting his crimes. The full verdict in the case of convicted war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury is also pending with the top court. So far, the government has executed the death sentences of top war criminals and Jamaat leaders Abdul Quader Molla and Mohammad Kamaruzzaman. |

Two of the most big shots, former party chief Ghulam Azam and AKM Yusuf, both died in jug in 2014. Also sentenced to death but unlikely to face the penalty after being tried in absentia are Mueen Udden, who is in London, and Ashrafuzzaman Khan, in the U.S., who were both linked to the party's student wing in 1971. There are several others found guilty by the war crimes tribunal who no longer have links with Jamaat-e-Islami. According to Imran Siddiqui, a lawyer who represented several of the Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, the next case will target Ali Ahsan Mohammed Mujahid, the party's Secretary General. "Unless the court decides to deal with the cases expeditiously, Mujahid's case will maybe be done before the end of the year," said Siddiqui, adding that the party chief >Motiur Rahman Nizami ...During the liberation war of 1971, Nizami formed the Al-Badr Force and acted as its supreme commander. The Al-Badr militia took active part in rape, extortion, looting and killing of Bangladeshis who supported the liberation, including a pre-planned massacre on December 14, 1971, when the Al-Badr militia along with Pakistan Army rounded up hundreds of doctors, professors, writers, and other Bengali intellectuals, and executed them... 's appeal was unlikely to come up until the middle of 2016. "These appeals take some time because the documents are (voluminous) in nature and there are lots of witnesses," said Siddiqui. Jamaat-e-Islami have insisted that the war crimes tribunals have been politically motivated and deny that the party was involved in assisting the Mighty Pak Army during the nine-month war which, according to official figures, saw 3 million people killed. Apart from Mujahid and Nizami, those facing the death penalty include the party's Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam and central executive committee members Mir Quasem Ali and Abdus Subhan. Having only received their sentences in recent months, their appeals may face a long wait as the court will first deal with Mujahid, Nizami and Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician Salauddin Quader Chowdhury. ![]() Ali Ahsan Mohammed Mujahid, the party's Secretary General, will be the next leader to go through the appeals process in order to contest his death sentence. The son of a politician, Mujahid, like many of the accused, was a senior figure in Jamaat-e-Islami's student wing in 1971. He is also one of the few, alongside Nizami, who has served in government. From 2001 to 2006, Mujahid was the social welfare minister in a coalition government with Jamaat-e-Islami's allies the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Mujahid was sentenced to death in 2013, accused of being Nizami's second-in-command in the Al-Badr militia, which allegedly worked closely with the Mighty Pak Army. He was also accused of being involved in the killing of academics. Siddiqui said Mujahid's defense will center on countering specific incidents he was accused of being involved in. "It will argue on the veracity of the witnesses and question the evidence used against him," said Siddiqui, adding that while Mujahid admits that he supported union with Pakistain, he denies any involvement in violence. "He says he was never involved in war crimes in 1971," said Siddiqui. "His role was only political." ![]() Of the Jamaat-e-Islami leaders currently facing death, Motiur Rahman Nizami, the party's chief, is the most prominent. Nizami was the leader of the party's then-student wing, Islami Chatra Sangha, at the time of the war in 1971. He later became a full Jamaat-e-Islami member, rising through the party's ranks to become Secretary General and then Ameer, the top leadership position, by 2000. He was briefly a member of parliament between 1991 and 1994 and then, between 2001 and 2006, served as the Minister of Agriculture and then the Minister for Industry. The war crimes tribunal accused Nizami of being the chief of the Al-Badr militia, which allegedly closely collaborated with the Mighty Pak Army during the 1971 war. In October 2014, Nizami was found guilty and sentenced to death for eight charges of crimes against humanity, including committing and ordering murders and abductions. He denied however that he had been a member of the Al-Badr forces or had any involvement with the Mighty Pak Army, claiming the charges against him had been fabricated. ![]() ...Islamic orator and politician. He initially worked as a religious teacher after the war but later became more involved in politics. In 1996 and 2001, he was succesfully elected as a Jamaat-e-Islami member of Parliament. Sayeedi was one of the first the court ordered to be hanged but he had his death sentence commuted in September 2014 to life imprisonment, to the distress of the Attorney General Mahbubey Alam. Alam was quoted in the Dhaka Tribune as saying ""I feel sad for [Delwar Hossain] Sayeedi's verdict. We hoped that he would be sentenced to death." Sayeedi successfully argued that the case against him had been flawed and contained conflicting witness testimonies. Unlike the others tried for the war crimes tribunal, Sayeedi had no reported connection to politics at the time of the war. According to information presented in court, he was a shopkeeper. The court claimed that given his low economic status, he was enticed to join the militias formed under the Mighty Pak Army and was involved in attacks targeting Hindu communities. |

Police: Shibir again plans mayhem in the country |
2015-02-22 |
[Dhaka Tribune] Leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir ... the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh... have been regrouping to conduct massive destruction across the country, Chittagong police claimed yesterday following the arrest of a central leader of the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami ... The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independentbranch there since 1975. He was a former Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2008, and is one of the most prominent leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami... , police say. The Shibir high-command has allegedly instructed its leaders to visit different district and other units with a view to bridging the gap with root-level activists and fortify the ongoing anti-government movement. "Shibir's Central Executive Committee Member Enamul Kabir came to Chittagong on February 12 with a written message from its President Abdul Jabbar for handing it over to city (north) unit President Nurul Amin," Kotwali circle Assistant Commissioner Shah Muhammad Abdur Rouf told news hounds yesterday. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive in Bogar Beel area under Bakalia cop shoppe around 10pm on Friday and nabbed Enamul and city unit leaders Mushfique Abrar and Golam Mostafa while holding a secret meeting in the dead of night, he said. The letter says coordination among the leaders and activists during the movement is so poor that the government cannot be removed with this strength. Therefore, Chittagong's root-level leaders and activists have been instructed to stay united under the leadership of former Jamaat politician Shahjahan Chowdhury. The Shibir high-command has also instructed the Chittagong unit leaders to join hands with the 20-party alliance organizations especially Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal ...student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)... , the BNP's student wing. Enamul during preliminary interrogation said they planned to carry out massive sabotage acts which had been seen soon after Sayeedi's verdict. |
