Militant, facilitator involved in Swat shootout in May arrested: KP IG

police had arrested a terrorist and a "local controller" involved in a shootout in Swat’s remote area of Banjot last month, during which "some [militants] had managed to flee" an hours-long police operation.

On May 23, residents of the mountainous area in Manglawar union had alerted police after seeing some suspected people.

"Upon receiving the information, police and security forces reached the area. We launched a joint operation against the suspected armed persons, but the area is so complicated and remote that they managed to flee," Swat district’s police officer, Shafiullah Gandapur had told Dawn at the time.

A citizen was killed in the incident.

IG Akhtar said while addressing a presser in Swat today that the counter-terrorism department and police had used all available technical resources to arrest the snuffies who had fled in the incident and as a result, a murderous Moslem, identified as Rafiullah alias Jawad, and a controller, identified as Asmatullah, were arrested.

He said both of them were residents of Charbagh and the group they were associated with had been involved in extortion and murder. This group, the IG added, also had links with the murderous Moslem Saleem Rabbani group.

IG Akhtar further stated that another murderous Moslem associated with the two arrested men, Zakirullah, had joined the Swat chapter of outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban

Regarding Rafiullah, the IG said he had moved to Afghanistan along with his family in 2012. He returned to Swat last year and used forged documents to declare himself as the son of a resident in Pakistain, IG Akhtar added.

He further stated that Rafiullah had crossed the Torkham border multiple times using fake documents and was trained in Afghanistan.

Sharing details of other incidents that the arrested men had been involved in, the IG said weapons were seized from them in large quantities.

"They had kept the weapons in very safe, weather-proof containers ... in mountains ... to use them in subsequent operations," he added.

Moreover, he also shared a list of individuals who he said were on the detained men’s target list. Among them, he added, was a constable on Buner police as they were "suspicious that he had been informing about their routes".

The IG said they had admitted to collecting extortion money from former MPAs and and confessed that they planned hand grenade attacks on their houses.

"Their objective behind all this was to create and environment of fear and terror and create and widen a breach ... between the people and institutions," IG Akhtar said.

He said during the investigation, two "shortcoming" were highlighted: the infiltration of snuffies through the border on the basis of false identities and local facilitation.

Both of these would be addressed, he added.

TTP member involved in kidnap, murder cases held in Gujrat

A front man for CTD said the law enforcers had arrested Malik Zahid who kidnapped and killed people in Lalamusa. Zahid of Gujrat belongs to TTP’s Asmatullah Muawiyah Group

and he, along with other members of his group, was carrying out terrorist activities.

He said the suspects kidnapped Dr Naqi Hussain Shah, a resident of Hirapur area in the Lalamusa Saddar police precinct, when he was on his way to the clinic from his house in 2009 and kept him in jug for eight to 10 days.

The suspects demanded ransom from Shah’s family and later killed him. Police started the paperwork but haven't done much else under sections 302/365 A /201 of PPC.

The same year, this terrorist group kidnapped Mubarak Ahmad Bajwa in Toba Tek Singh for ransom and brought him to Gujrat and killed him.

In 2011, the criminal, along with his accomplices, kidnapped Afaq Ahmed, 10, and his driver Mian Jamshed for ransom in Mauza Khokhar Gharbi. They left the hostages when their car rolled upside down on the way and fled. The Kunjah police started the paperwork but haven't done much else.

The suspect was declared a proclaimed offender in the three cases registered against him and fled to Dubai from where he returned after 11 years and went into hiding. The IGP handed over the investigation of the cases to the CTD which arrested Zahid.

Soldier martyred in exchange of fire with terrorists in North Waziristan: ISPR

[Dawn] A Pakistain Army soldier was martyred on Wednesday in an exchange of fire between troops and murderous Moslems in North Wazoo

Wazoo's Isham area, according to a statement issued by the military's media wing.

The statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) identified the soldier as Sepoy Asmatullah Khan, 28, who was a resident of Mianwali. The statement said he fought "gallantly".

"Sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any murderous Moslems found in the area. Pakistain Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve," the ISPR statement said.

On Tuesday, an army major and a soldier were martyred and two bad boyz were potted during an exchange of fire between members of security forces and a group of murderous Moslems in the Birmal area of South Waziristan tribal district.

Eight soldiers martyred in North Waziristan attacks

[Dawn] Eight soldiers were martyred in two terrorist attacks in North Wazoo

Wazoo on Thursday, security sources said.

In one incident, seven soldiers were martyred when murderous Moslems ambushed a vehicle of security forces in Datakhel tehsil of North Waziristan tribal district. In the second incident, which took place in Isham area of the district, a solider was martyred in a clash between security forces and terrorists.

As for the first attack, officials said the murderous Moslems attacked a moving vehicle of the security forces in Datakhel near the Afghan border. Sources said the snuffies used a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and assault guns in the attack.

Sources said that a search operation in the area was in progress. According to reports, security personnel also retaliated but casualties on the holy warrior side could not be ascertained.

The ISPR has yet to confirm the attack or issue a formal statement.

Unlike other areas of North Waziristan, Datakhel is considered a relatively safe sanctuary for terrorist groups. Security forces have yet to clear the area and hundreds of displaced families are still waiting to return to their homes.

In the second attack, a fire exchange took place between troops and murderous Moslems in the Isham area of North Waziristan district, in which 28-year-old Sepoy Asmatullah Khan of Mianwali embraced martyrdom, military media wing ISPR said.

Sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any murderous Moslems found in the area.

Pakistain Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve, said the security sources.

The incidents on Thursday have raised the tally of terrorist attacks on security forces to three this week in the Waziristan region of erstwhile Fata.

On Monday, a check-post of security forces came under attack in the South Waziristan district, in which an army major and a soldier were martyred while two personnel were maimed. Two murderous Moslems were also killed during the exchange of fire with the security forces in that attack.

The DG ISPR told a presser on Thursday that 97 officers and soldiers had embraced martyrdom in the first three months of this year. With eight more embracing martyred on Thursday, the tally goes up to 105.

He said 128 turbans had been killed in the corresponding period, while 270 had been arrested.

Nangarhar governor Shah Mahmood Miakhel said that these women and kiddies, along with hundreds of ISIS fighters, had surrendered to security forces in Nangarhar in recent months.

"Nearly 50 women and 80 children, after being identified by their relatives‐and, of course, after the women confirm--will be handed over to their relatives," said Miakhel, governor.

"These women are the Pashtun’s dignity. They are not criminals and the Afghan people should not consider them criminals," said Malik Osman, a tribal elder across the Durand Line.

Local government officials in Nangarhar said the defeat of ISIS in the province late last year resulted in one thousand and one hundred ISIS fighters, many of them Paks, surrendering to security forces with their children and spouses.

Last year in November 2019 President Ghani, visiting Nangarhar province, said the "elimination "of ISIS in the province is a major achievement for Afghanistan, the region and the world.

In recent years, Nangarhar has been named a key ISIS base in Afghanistan.

During his visit to Nangarhar province President Ghani also considered what to do with the ISIS members and their families who have surrendered.

Suspect held for child abuse in Lakki Marwat

[DAWN] LAKKI MARWAT: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested an alleged child abuser, three hours after a girl victim started the paperwork but haven't done much else against him in Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak cop shoppe of Naurang town.

The 10-year-old girl told police that on July 11, she along with her cousins was playing in the street when a resident of Zahidabad locality came there and asked them to accompany him to his house for bringing ’Zam Zam’ water and dates for their uncle.

"After covering some distance the man asked my cousins to wait there and took me to the fields where he assaulted me," she told police and said that that the accused kept her there for around one and half hour.

The complainant said the accused aimed his pistol on her and hurled threats of dire consequences if she narrated the incident before anyone.

Later, I complained about abdominal pain and swelling of rectum to my mother without telling my parents about what happened to me, she said, adding her parents administered her with a pain killer.

The girl said that on July 13, she along with her father was standing outside her house when she spotted the accused and started weeping.

"I narrated the ordeal to my father when he asked me why I was weeping," she maintained, saying that her father immediately took her to the cop shoppe for registration of case against the culprit.

Police said that they had started the paperwork but haven't done much else against the accused under relevant sections of Pakistain Penal Code and Child Protection Act and arrested him.

Two handed over to police for torching girls’ schools in Diamer

[DAWN] Two persons allegedly involved in torching of girls schools in Diamer district surrendered to police on Wednesday.

The accused were given to law enforcement agencies at a jirga held in Deral.

The authorities said Shabbir and Asmatullah were allegedly involved in girls schools’ torching incidents in August this year. Police and other law enforcement agencies personnel had since been searching for them.

So far, the jirga has handed over about 50 accused involved in the incident to law enforcement agencies.

Two accused involved in the incident were killed during an encounter with police in August.

A source said the criminal mastermind of the incident was still on the lam.

Talking to mediapersons, Deral jirga members, Rahmat Khaliq, Abdul Shakoor and Malik Maskeen, said the jirga supported law enforcement agencies to maintain peace in the area. They said the government should take further steps for girls’ education in the area.

US embassy official arrested in Islamabad

The Kohsar police arrested the suspect from the parking area of the district and sessions court Islamabad, an official told Dawn. He had allegedly threatened and assaulted the police officials besides trying to help a US diplomat escape from police custody after a fatal traffic accident.

On April 8, US Defence and Air Attaché Col Joseph Emanuel jumped the red light on Margalla Road and hit two young men riding a cycle of violence. One of them died and his pillion rider was injured.

The CSO reached the spot - Zoo Chowk - and threatened the police officials for holding the diplomat. Besides, he also put up resistance against the police to help the diplomat escape, said the police.

Investigating officer of the case Inspector Arshad Ali told Dawn that the victim’s father had lodged a complaint with the police against the CSO. In response, an inquiry was conducted which found the CSO guilty. Later, he was nominated in the FIR already registered in the case.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (operations) Asmatullah Junejo told Dawn that the victim’s father had also complained to the inspector general of the police that the CSO came to the Kohsar cop shoppe with gunnies and harassed and threatened the police and took away the diplomat along with him.

SHO Kohsar Inspector Khalid Awan in his statement also said the security officer had visited his office and harassed him and his staff.

ATC orders seizure of Imran Khan, Tahirul Qadri's assets after no-shows in terrorism case

On Sept 1, 2014 during the sit-ins, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asmatullah Junejo was beaten up by protesters on Constitution Avenue on his first day on the job as SSP Operations of ICT Police.

Secretariat police had started the paperwork but haven't done much else against several PTI and PAT workers for their alleged involvement in vandalism and attacking SSP Janjejo.

The ATC had issued warrants for Khan and Qadri with directions to the police to produce them before the court. Police had later told the ATC that the execution of the arrest warrants against the two politicians could not take place as they were not found at their residence.

Police also submitted a report before the ATC, saying that a police party had gone to the residence of Imran Khan in Bani Gala where a security guard informed them that Khan was not at home and that he did not know where he was.

Security and law enforcement agencies in a swift response to recent terror attacks have killed more than a hundred terrorists, besides apprehending several miscreants from different parts of the country.

Police manhandle disabled persons in Quetta

[DAWN] Police officials on Monday reportedly manhandled and dragged disabled persons to clear the route for a government official during a protest demonstration in the Hockey Chowk area of Quetta.

The disabled persons were demanding the provincial government to ensure implementation of disabled persons quota in government services and were also demanding a special package for them.

"Four to five of our colleagues were maimed by the police," said Izatullah, the head of voice for disabled person in Balochistan

Eight-year-old girl raped, ‘thrown off roof’ in Karachi

’s Superhighway Industrial Area Saturday, the girl’s post-mortem report revealed.

Police and hospital sources said the girl’s dead body was first brought to Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) at the Gul Goth area near Superhighway, but due to the unavailability of a female medico-legal officer, was shifted to Civil Hospital for an appointment with Dr. Quincy.

Additional police surgeon at Civil Hospital, Dr. Qarar Ahmed told Dawn the girl’s autopsy report confirmed she was raped. Dr. Seemin Jamali, head of JPMC’s emergency department, told Dawn the girl sustained injuries on her head, adding that doctors also found "evidence of sexual assault".

Dr. Mubarak Pathan, a medico-legal officer at Civil Hospital, revealed that the victim’s family and police were reluctant to allow doctors to conduct an autopsy.

Station House Officer Site Superhighway Industrial Area, Asmatullah Marwat, had earlier quoted the dear departed’s maternal uncle as saying that the girl died after falling from the roof while playing.
