Quader: Zia betrayed Bangabandhu |
2019-08-26 |
[Dhaka Tribune] Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and his family betrayed the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the country as well. “We know the assassins of the 1975 carnage. We also know those who patronized the killers and helped them to go abroad: Ziaur Rahman and his family betrayed Bangabandhu and the country,” he said, addressing a discussion in the capital on Sunday. North South University organized the meeting on its campus, marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day. Speaking as chief guest, Quader said that after betraying Bangabandhu and the country, Zia himself became a victim of treachery. Obaidul Quader said if Zia had not patronized the killers of Bangabandhu, another killing would not have taken place in 1981 and he would not have been killed. Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, said: “Awami League men did not kill Zia. He was killed by his close ones.” The 15 August carnage and the 21 August killings are interlinked, he said, adding that the Harkat-ul-Jihad leader confessed that as per the instruction of Hawa Bhaban, the outlaw group carried out the grenade attack on an Awami League rally on Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21 in 2004, with a primary target of killing, then opposition leader, Sheikh Hasina.
