[ConservativeTreehouse] A few datapoints to keep on a post-it note as things progress; starting with a rather significant new release that I think you will find interesting. Approximately 12.3 million Mexicans live abroad, both legally and illegally, with 97% of them living and working in the United States, according to BBVA Research. Last year Mexicans living abroad sent $64.75 billion back home in remittances, largely from Texas and California to states in central and western Mexico. According to data just released, in April of this year remittances back to Mexico dropped 12.1%. The Mexico central bank said April saw 8.1% fewer transactions than a year earlier, that’s down to 12.4 million transactions. For Mexico this could be a devastating trend. [Sidenote: Remember, Trump is likely planning a complete overhaul of the USMCA later this year.] MEXICO CITY (Reuters) -Remittances sent to Mexico slumped 12.1% in April compared to a year earlier, according to central bank data published on Monday, marking the steepest drop in over a decade as U.S. lawmakers mull a tax on such payments sent abroad. The Mexican domestic economy benefits from these remittances as the money flow from the United States directly fuels family purchases and the economy within Mexico. If significantly less money is flowing to Mexico due to voluntary exit and deportation, the Mexico domestic economy contracts. Now, a few things to consider. ♦ First, a question I have often asked myself. What happens to U.S. economic data, statistically recorded based on identifiable datapoints, if the unquantifiable underground economy is forcibly reduced? If black market (cash) wages are removed, and that creates structural employment pressure leading to traditional (non-cash) wage increases, will the BEA/BLS wage increase -or income data- seem skewed? Perhaps, just perhaps, we are seeing the answer. Last month, again recording for April, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported that Personal income increased $210.1 billion (0.8 percent at a monthly rate). That’s a 9.6% annualized rate of potential wage increases. That is stunningly good. ♦ Second, Florida is now reporting the biggest decline in home prices in a decade. As reported in the New York Post, “the median price for all home types in Florida fell 1.7% in March from the same time last year, according to Redfin, a national real estate brokerage. That’s a small number with big implications.” … “Median prices for condos and co-ops fell about 7% in March.” In addition, available housing inventory is reaching record highs. As the Hurricane season gets underway, right now in June 2025 things look a lot like June 2005. Florida was where the financial atom split in the housing crisis of ’07/08. The Florida housing values climaxed in December of 2005, then collapsed stunningly fast. However, the shockwave took until 2007 to reach nationwide impact. At least in the Florida housing market data, June 2025 looks an awful lot like June 2005. There are a lot of factors influencing the Florida housing market, including declining in-migration, ridiculous insurance costs, high mortgage rates, high prices and now increases in unsold available inventory. However, when you overlay the potential slowdown in construction with a decline in available workers (repatriation), you get a slower overall economy to absorb that growing housing inventory. Back to the main subject. If remittances to Mexico continue to shrink due to repatriation (voluntary and forced), the economy of Mexico could be squeezed significantly. This creates even more pressure on Mexico, and simultaneously more leverage for President Trump in a USMCA renegotiation. Related: Remittances 05/10/2025 Trump Hires U.N. VDH - Harvard, You're Entitled to Nothing (video) |
2025-06-01 |
[Daily Signal] Hello, this is Victor Davis Hanson for The Daily Signal. Recently, President Donald Trump has escalated his struggle with Harvard University. Remember what the issues were. Harvard had not really followed the letter of the law according to the 2022 Supreme Court ruling, which it and the University of North Carolina had lost. In other words, they were, by court order, to stop giving preference in admissions, in hiring, in promotion, in retention on the basis of race, gender, etc., what we would call DEI. Harvard has been skirting that. And I think the data’s pretty clear how they have and no question that they’ve been doing it. Second, they have also been getting a lot of money from foreign governments, not always fully accounted for, that is reported to the Department of Education, specifically Communist China and Qatar, over the years. You could make the argument that there have been, in the past, graduations, dorms that have a racial basis, almost a segregation element to them. |

VDH Breaks Down Why He Thinks ‘Real Economic Boom' ‘Nobody's Talking About' Could Be Coming |
2025-05-14 |
The Trump administration began its first negotiations with China on Saturday, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announcing Sunday that "substantial progress" had been made since the tariff war broke out in April. While discussing the issue on "The Victor Davis Hanson Show," Hanson questioned the "outrage" from outlets like the Wall Street Journal and said Trump is trying to save American jobs through his tariff negotiations. "What Donald Trump is trying to do is to lower the amount of foreign capital and exchange they have at their disposal and save American jobs," Hanson said. "So if he gets this $1.2 dollar surplus down to $500 hundred million — that sounds to me like he might be able to do that. Cut it in half without destroying them. Then wean us off slowly of Chinese dependence. It’s a fantastic boom." "What’s so weird about it is that every economist that I know of has been warning us ... that it was not sustainable to be running these huge trade deficits," Hanson added. "No other president has really addressed it. No other president has talked about the trade deficit. Nobody’s talked about the budget deficit, not since Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich balanced the budget deficit. Nobody’s talking about the national debt. I never heard Biden — did you ever hear him say one word that we’re paying $3 billion dollars a day in interest? I didn’t." After Trump announced tariffs against a handful of countries, China responded with retaliatory measures. While the president later placed a 90-day pause on tariffs for all nations except China, the country was hit with a 145% tariff from the U.S. |

Richard Pollack: Biden's Attempt to Oust Netanyahu After October 7 |
2025-05-06 |
![]() The most disturbing revelation is that only months after the October 7 attack, Biden and his aides secretly sought to interfere in Israel’s politics and dethrone Israel’s democratically elected prime minister. One former Biden official says there were discussions to "scramble Israeli politics, and see if you can trigger elections, or Gd knows what." The revelation is based on extensive interviews with former top Biden administration officials that aired on Israeli Channel 13 on April 27. The new report was delivered by Raviv Drucker, the host of Israel’s Channel 13 "Hamakor" investigative program. Unfortunately, the show and its deeply troubling revelations have received scant attention in the United States. But Drucker’s wide-ranging investigative report showcases the Biden administration’s deep antagonism towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, even as Israelis were reeling from the brutal October 7 attack. Drucker is a nationally known Israeli journalist who has broadcast many investigative reports. He also has published many brutally critical accounts of Netanyahu and his family. He’s not a fan of the current Prime Minister. And Channel 13 has aired many other anti-Netanyahu programs. Sure, it’s true that President Biden’s hostility towards the Israeli head of state was never quite a secret. But former Biden officials decided to publicly admit this truth. It’s interesting that they did so on Israeli national television, not on American TV. Did they do so to advance their own previous animas against Netanyahu? It is vital to understand their comments came as anti-Netanyahu organizers are escalating their political attacks on the prime minister. Last Saturday, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak called for a "civil insurrection" to topple the Netanyahu government, according to the Jewish News Service. His call came even as Israel is calling up reserves and the country is facing active wars in Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppressionand disproportionate response... , Leb ![]() , Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... and possibly a war with Iran. "We need to get to a civil insurrection," he proclaimed also on Channel 13. Barak is calling for hundreds of thousands to take to the streets for "the shutdown of the country until the government falls." The sense that Biden wasn’t fully in Israel’s corner have certainly rumbled below the surface since October 7, including charges that Washington withheld key weapons from Israel during the war. But it’s his administration’s anti-democratic maneuvering against a major ally that’s most alarming. Tablet, the highly regarded Jewish investigative publication reported in August 2024 about President Biden’s anti-democratic ploys against Netanyahu. "The Biden administration has assembled an interagency team of targeteers...to weaken if not. Topple the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu," they reported. Here's a little bit of information people should know about Netanyahu and democracy. In 1996 at the age of 47, he became Israel’s youngest prime minister. Netanyahu also became the first Israeli prime minister elected directly by popular vote. He was re-elected to the country’s highest post in 2009, 2013, 2015, 2020 and in 2022. The former Biden officials on Channel 13 described their efforts to remove him from office. Hamakor reports that internally, Biden administration openly discussed the idea of forcing out Netanyahu. One of the nine former Biden officials on his show was Ilan Goldenberg, who served in national security positions for Presidents Obama and Biden and in 2023 became Vice President Harris’ Middle East advisor. Goldenberg also served as Harris’ Jewish liaison during her 2024 Presidential run. I reached out to Goldenberg, who now is a senior executive at J Street, an organization that for years has been highly antagonistic towards the Israeli prime minister. He did not return my call. Not well known is that Goldenberger was born in Jerusalem as an Israeli citizen. He renounced his Israeli citizenship to work for President Obama in his first term. The Jewish critic originally focused on advancing the administration’s controversial Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneouslytaking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militiasto extend the regime's influence. The word Iranis a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGCis the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA).The term Supreme Guideis a the modern version form of either Duceor Führeror maybe both. They hate policy. In the Channel 13 interview, Goldenberg was quite candid about Biden. He suggested the administration was considering measures to trigger new elections and force Netanyahu out even as the October 7 atrocities were still fresh in Israeli minds. Goldenberger explained the former President’s strategy, saying, "The idea would be to either force Netanyahu to come on board (with the Biden policy), or scramble Israeli politics, and see if you can trigger elections, or Gd knows what." The idea that Biden would "scramble Israeli politics," supposedly a staunch American ally, shows its deep disrespect for Israeli democracy. And it deeply tarnishes Biden’s image in Israel. In the Channel 13 program, Tom Nides, Biden’s former U.S. Ambassador to Israel continued the narrative of the former President’s antagonism toward Netanyahu saying the former President regularly demonized Netanyahu. He said Biden considered the Israeli leader to be "a manipulator, a magician." Biden, who in public tried to appear softspoken, frequently used coarse and ugly language behind the scenes. And his antipathy towards Netanyahu often was on full display to his aides. In a commentary, Victor Davis Hanson, a senior fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution posted comments about these ugly revelations. "This startling disclosure...raises critical concerns about the Biden administration’s respect for Israeli democracy, particularly during one of the darkest periods in the nation’s modern history, when Israel was reeling from an unprecedented terrorist onslaught that claimed over 1,200 lives and left hundreds kidnapped into Gaza. Hansen added, "At a time when Israel was battling for its very survival against genocidal terrorism, the Biden administration, according to Goldenberg’s account, was actively seeking to leverage the crisis for political ends, rather than offering unconditional support to an ally under siege." I suspect we can expect more details to emerge of how the former president — and his fellow Democrats ...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, whiteanything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nastyto the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects... — aggressively tried to subvert America’s biggest democratic ally in the Middle East. Dem senator's El Salvador trip might violate law liberals used as pretext for Michael Flynn probe: critics |
2025-04-20 |
[FoxNews] The Logan Act of 1799 prohibits unauthorized foreign negotiations Sen. Chris Van Hollen’s, D-Md., sudden trip to El Salvador to try to free deportee Kilmar Abrego Garcia is getting the attention of critics who believe the Maryland Democrat may have violated a 1799 law prohibiting unauthorized diplomacy. The Logan Act – named for former Pennsylvania Sen. George Logan – stipulates a fine and/or imprisonment for Americans corresponding with foreign officials "with intent to influence the[ir] measures … in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States." Logan met with French diplomat Charles de Talleyrand after Paris rebuffed President John Adams, and he attempted to entreat him – in part via a letter from Vice President Thomas Jefferson – to end the Franco-American hostilities of the so-called "Quasi War." In that way, several prominent conservatives questioned whether Van Hollen’s actions similarly violated the law. "Why hasn’t this U.S. senator been arrested for violation of the Logan Act? It’s illegal to conduct your own foreign policy," longtime Republican consultant Roger Stone tweeted. WMAL host Vince Coglianese read the Logan Act statute aloud and asked his audience whether Van Hollen had done what the code outlined. "Is Chris Van Hollen violating the Logan Act?" Coglianese said. "Because this is what they accused General [Michael] Flynn of doing … the incoming national security advisor … who was merely having conversations with foreign diplomats [after] people had chosen President Donald Trump." Democrats previously seized on the Logan Act when Flynn contacted Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak prior to Trump being sworn in the first time, which ultimately led to an FBI probe and tanked his public-service career. Notes from former FBI agent Peter Strzok read, "VP: Logan Act" and suggested then-Vice President Joe Biden floated using it against Flynn, while then-FBI director Jim Comey said the Kislyak correspondence appeared "legit." Greenland's center-right party pulls off upset victory as Trump seeks control |
2025-03-13 |
[FoxNews] 'People want change,' said Demokraatit leader Jens-Frederik Nielsen Greenland’s center-right Demokraatit party pulled off a surprise victory in the country’s parliamentary elections, taking Greenlandic Prime Minister Múte Egede’s party, Inuit Ataqatigiit, out of power. Independence from Denmark became a focal point of the election amid President Donald Trump’s repeated talk of the U.S. taking control. "People want change... We want more business to finance our welfare," said Jens-Frederik Nielsen, Demokraatit's leader, according to Reuters. The outlet added that Nielsen said Greenland does not "want independence tomorrow" and would prefer separation from Denmark be based on a "good foundation." Four of the five main parties on the ballot, including the ones that won first and second place, Demokraatit Party and Naleraq, favor independence from Denmark, but disagree on the pace. Greenland, whose population is approximately 57,000 people, currently operates as a semi-autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. However, Trump’s renewed interest in the island sparked conversations about breaking away from the Danish crown. Prime Minister Egede, whose party failed to maintain control, said in a Facebook post that he respects the outcome of the election and that the parties are ready for negotiations. Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen congratulated the Demokraatit Party and said the Greenlandic future would face "massive pressure" from Trump, according to The Associated Press, which cited Danish Broadcasting Corporation DR. Poulsen reportedly added that "the future of Greenland is based on what the Greenlandic people and government want." The Demokraatit Party saw a major increase in support, winning nearly 30% of the vote compared to just 9% in 2021, according to The Associated Press, which cited Greenlandic Broadcasting Corporation KNR TV. Earlier this month, Trump brought up Greenland in his address to a joint session of Congress. "We strongly support your right to determine your own future, and, if you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America," Trump said, eliciting laughter from the crowd. "We need Greenland for national security and even international security, and we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it… One way or the other, we’re going to get it." In the same address, Trump vowed that the U.S. would "take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before." During a January phone call with Trump, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that Greenland must be allowed to make decisions about its own future. Both Prime Ministers Frederiksen and Egede told Trump that "Greenland is not for sale," Axios reported at the time. In December 2024, then-President-elect Trump tapped Ken Howery as U.S. ambassador to Denmark. Trump said in a post on Truth Social announcing the pick that "the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity." President Trump also eyed Greenland during his first term, causing friction between himself and Prime Minister Frederiksen. In 2019, after the Danish leader called the idea of the U.S. buying Greenland "absurd," Trump abruptly canceled his trip to Denmark over the "nasty" comment. |

Victor Davis Hanson: The Joe Biden 'Now They Tell Us' Phenomenon |
2025-03-08 |
[YouTube] Why is it that reports of former President Joe Biden’s failing mental acuity are just now coming out? Victor Davis Hanson asks this question on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “I don't know if you've noticed, everyone, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, they all knew about Joe Biden's dementia. Suddenly we're given all of these revealing quotes that he was completely physically and mentally unfit to carry out the oath of office. But we all knew that. “Why all of a sudden are we no longer crazy that Joe Biden was not fit as a fiddle, that the quarantine was a mess, that Brett Kavanaugh was not a rapist or sexual assaulter, that there's more to January 6th than we're told? And I could go on and on about these 11th-hour revelations." Compact of Free Association (COFA)-The Greenland Solution |
2025-02-11 |
[Federalist] If the Danes don’t want to sell Greenland and the locals don’t want to form the 51st state, President Donald Trump is left with a third option. But if the Danes don’t want to sell Greenland and the locals don’t want to form the 51st state, President Trump can pursue an agreement called a Compact of Free Association (COFA). Managed by the Department of the Interior, a COFA is a mutual agreement with select countries that are guaranteed U.S. support and protection in exchange for exclusive regional access. Under these compacts, co-opted states receive limited economic assistance and allow the American military to maintain an exclusive security presence without the host territory’s forfeiture of national sovereignty. A COFA signed with Greenland would give the U.S. rights to manage regional security while the island maintains relative autonomy from both the United States and Denmark. The U.S. currently has COFA agreements with a trio of Pacific nation-states. The U.S. provides military defense in exchange for military access, immigration privileges, and financial aid. COFA agreements govern the U.S. relationship with the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), and the Republic of Palau. The security arrangements give the Pentagon greater ability to counter Chinese aggression in the Pacific just as a compact with Greenland would provide an additional buffer in the Arctic. [YouTube] Victor Davis Hanson delivers a searing critique of Joe Biden's presidency, unpacking what he calls one of the most deceptive and disastrous administrations in modern history. Hanson explores Biden’s failure to uphold integrity, citing the scandal surrounding Hunter Biden’s sweetheart DOJ deal and the unprecedented pardon spree that included over 1,500 individuals, many of whom Biden likely couldn’t name. Hanson delves into Biden’s failure to unite the country, painting him as a leader who thrived only when angry and divisive, even targeting not just political opponents but their supporters. The economic toll on the middle class under Biden is laid bare, with stagnant wages and soaring costs for essentials like food, gas, and rent. Hanson ties these failures to polling data that consistently showed Americans' lack of confidence in Biden's handling of the economy, the border, and national security. The discussion shifts to the broader Democratic strategy, with Hanson arguing that Biden was installed as a facade by the party’s elite, including the Obamas, to push through a radical agenda. Once he could no longer maintain even the semblance of leadership, the party hastily replaced him with Kamala Harris, leading to a new set of challenges. Hanson doesn’t hold back, describing Biden’s tenure as the greatest presidential fraud since Woodrow Wilson’s incapacitation was hidden from the public. With scathing insight, he examines the long-term implications of this era, from the erosion of trust in political institutions to the deep divide within the Democratic Party itself. Will the Biden presidency go down as a historic low point? Hanson’s sharp analysis suggests the shame and consequences of these decisions will resonate for decades. |

Nunes vows oversight of U.S. intel from White House panel |
2024-12-31 |
[JustTheNews] "I believe the reason that he chose me to do it is because I was, you know, I saw the corruption up front and personal," he said on the "Victor Davis Hanson Show." Trump Media and Technology Group CEO Devin Nunes this week, highlighted the importance of depoliticizing the U.S. intelligence agencies as he gears up to chair the President's Intelligence Advisory Board. President-elect Donald Trump tapped Nunes, the former House Intelligence Committee Chairman, for the post earlier in December. "I believe the reason that he chose me to do it is because I was, you know, I saw the corruption up front and personal," he said on the "Victor Davis Hanson Show." "And so when, when things go wrong, this board is there to have a fresh set of eyes, a fresh look into what these agencies are doing or have done." "Yeah, so it's, I've described it Victor as something that's very similar to my role when I was chair of the House Intelligence Committee, where I effectively reported to the United States Congress, to the legislative branch of government," he went on. "Here I report directly to the to the President. So it has, it has very extensive powers, and obviously the President can increase those authorities or decrease those authorities, as he see fits. But, you know, look, I feel like he has the confidence in me that that if I see something wrong, that we're going to get to the bottom of it." Nunes further outlined what he believed to be the root cause of the intelligence community's expansion, politicization, and left-ward shift. "I believe it's, it's pretty simple as to what's what's happened," he said. "Even though the defense and intelligence industrial complex is bigger than I think Eisenhower ever imagined it could be, and more dangerous. But there's only one word. It's been politicized, and it was politicized on purpose, and the people that live in Washington, D.C., that mostly are part of the left, but as we have found out, it's pretty easy for people who you would think are hard right, that if there livelihood is threatened, they somehow move and team up with the left i.e. the Cheney family." "I know that the President wants to have a DOJ and FBI and DOD and CIA that America can be proud of," he insisted. "And it's, you know, it's pretty the President sees this pretty simply. And he, he actually campaigned on it. What did he campaign on? Make America safe again, it's not complicated. But in order to do that, you have to have a de-politicized intelligence agency."
