Shutdown in occupied Kashmir against India's ban on Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front |
2019-03-25 |
[DAWN] A complete shutdown was observed in India-Indian Kashmiree against the banning of Jammu and Kashmire Liberation Front (JKLF) by the Indian government, the Kashmire Media Service reported on Sunday. New Delhi had announced a ban on the pro-independence group yesterday, as part of a crackdown on what it calls "separatist organizations". A statement issued in Delhi said the Indian government had declared JKLF an "unlawful association" as it was trying to curb the activities of "secessionist organizations" posing a threat to the country’s unity and integrity. The group’s leader, Yasin Malik ... ![]() , was tossed in the slammer Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please! recently in a counteroffensive against dissent following a Feb 14 suicide kaboom that killed over 40 Indian soldiers in the disputed region. Over a thousand people have been arrested since then. The call for a strike was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. All shops and other business establishments were shut in Srinagar and other cities of the valley. Indian police and paramilitary forces set up checkpoints at several places, while troops were deployed to foil possible protests in downtown Srinagar. "The order to ban Jamaat-e-Islami ... The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independentbranch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores... and JKLF is nothing but an act of political vengeance and an oppressive tactic to suppress the just movement of people of Jammu and Kashmire. The Indian government’s decision to ban the organizations peacefully striving for the resolution of Kashmire dispute, will not cow down the people," a statement from the JRL said. The statement added that the Indian government wants to "push people towards the wall for raising the demand to get their rights but it will not make pro-freedom leadership to crumble". |

Indian convoy in Srinagar; Mirwaiz, Ali Gilani house-arrested
2010-09-21 | |
![]() In Indian Kashmir, the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and other pro-movement leaders have refused to meet the visiting Indian all-party delegation in protest against the killing of innocent Kashmiri youth. "We got nuttin' to say to dem guyz!" The APHC Chairman in press release said that assault on the life and dignity of the Kashmiri people had been relentless and daily life in the homes and streets of the territory had been turned into a nightmare as the entire population was being treated as hostage on its own soil. He wrote that just a simple act of stepping out of house
The APHC Chairman said that India had failed to fulfill the promises made by its rulers of resolving the Kashmir dispute through dialogue adding that New Delhi was responding to Kashmiris' peaceful struggle with bullets and violence. He maintained that it was the high time to develop a peace processor on Kashmir as lingering of the dispute would result into more loss of human lives. He said that the APHC, with a view to generating a conducive atmosphere for a purposeful dialogue, had put forth suggestions like revocation of draconian laws, release of political prisoners, withdrawal of troops and zero tolerance against human rights but these proposals were not taken seriously by India. He pointed out that New Delhi offered dialogue only when a major crisis erupted in Jammu and Kashmir and as soon as the situation improved it restored inherent political complacency and negligence. He proposed that Pakistain and India should set up Kashmir committees to develop and enter into a process of engagement with Kashmiri leadership to bring about a just solution of the dispute. Some members of the 42-member delegation are likely to call on Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his Hyderpora residence here. Though Geelani has officially refused to meet them, he said the delegation members will not be turned away if they decide to call on him at his house as they were guests. The freedom fightershave given mixed signals to the visit of the delegation. While the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF led by Mohammad Yasin Malik has said that they will hold joint consultations to decide whether to meet the delegation, the hardline faction led by Geelani has decided to boycott it. The delegation hopes that the leaders of various freedom movement groups will finally come for the talks.

Qazi flays arrest of Kashmiri leaders |
2008-08-26 |
![]() In a statement issued on Monday, Qazi said New Delhi was violating all norms of human rights in order to crush the freedom struggle of Kashmiris. He said the march of tens of thousands of Kashmiris towards the Pakistani side of Azad Kashmir was ample proof that the struggling people of Kashmir would not rest until they secured independence from Indian occupation. Qazi blasted the mum of the UN and the world human right bodies and the government of Pakistan. Kashmiris, he said, were fighting the war of Pakistan. "Leaving them destitute and unattended in their hour of need would be great injustice towards their cherished dream of joining Pakistan," he said. "In this backdrop," he opined, "any effort to normalise relations with India, through trade and exchange of cultural troupes, is highly condemnable." |
