UK police question Labour ex-chief Corbyn over anti-Israel march; 77 arrested, 9 charged
2025-01-21
[IsraelTimes] Lawmaker questioned under caution after protesters allegedly breached conditions set by police aimed at keeping protest away from synagogue; Corbyn’s brother among those charged

Former leader of Britannia’s Labour party Jeremy Corbyn was questioned under caution by police on Sunday over his participation in an anti-Israel, pro-Paleostinian rally the previous day that developed into a clash with police.

Also questioned was former senior Labour party member John McDonnell, who, like Corbyn, is now an independent politician in the House of Commons.

Both men voluntarily agreed to be questioned, the BBC reported.

Officers charged nine people with public order offenses after dozens were arrested at the protest in the British capital, the London Metropolitan Police said Sunday.

More than 70 people were arrested at Saturday’s march after what police called a "coordinated effort to breach" protest conditions, including the perimeter of the rally which was meant to be static.

Among those charged was Corbyn’s brother Piers Corbyn.

The march, organized by the Paleostine Solidarity Campaign, had initially planned to gather around the corner from the Central Synagogue, an Orthodox congregation founded more than 150 years ago.

From there it was to march towards Whitehall, the British government district. Police refused to permit that plan and instead approved only a static demonstration at another location.

Instead of remaining in place at Portland Place, near the headquarters of the BBC, some demonstrators broke through a police line and marched to Trafalgar Square, the Met said in a post to social media platform X.

Corbyn, responding to the police statement, said it was "not an accurate description of events at all."

He claimed that, along with other speakers, he had coordinated with police to move to Trafalgar Square "to lay flowers in memory of children in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. who had been killed."

"This was facilitated by the police. We did not force our way through," Corbyn wrote.

Protest organizers have denied an "organized" breach of conditions and accused officers of heavy-handedness in their policing of the demonstration.
So long as it was spontaneous, that makes it ok to break the rules they agreed to? A novel legal theory.
Of the 77 arrested, 25 have been released on bail while 48 remain in jug. Those charged are due to appear at London’s Westminster Magistrates Court "in the coming days," police said.

"Yesterday we saw a deliberate effort, including by protest organizers, to breach conditions," said police commander Adam Slonecki on Sunday.

"We will continue to work through CCTV footage, videos from social media and our body worn cameras so we can make further arrests and bring forward charges where we identify criminality."

Among those charged was Christopher Nineham, 62, the vice chair of the Stop the War Coalition (SWC),
…formed in London days after 9/11 by a coalition of Labour Party, socialist, and communist activists — another tentacle of the anarcho-communist syndicalist Black Bloc octopus — in an attempt to stop the American response, and then to stop the wider War on Terror, and then naturally self-defense by the Jewish state. It is arguably a militant arm of the Labour Party…
one of the organizers of the demonstration. Protest organizers accused the police of arresting Nineham “violent mostly peacefully and for no apparent reason" in a statement on X.

"At no stage was there an organized breach of the conditions imposed by the police," the organizers said, calling the arrests a "direct assault on freedom of assembly and democracy."

The Campaign Against Antisemitism said the rally and scuffles with police were "a dark day for London."

"Not only did we see the usual antisemitic bile and open support for Jew-hating terrorist organizations to which our nation’s capital has become accustomed, but snuffies repeatedly breached the modest restrictions imposed by the police on today’s protest," it said in a post to X.
It’s the left wing. Of coursethey hate Jews. Jeremy Corbyn was expelled from the Labour Party for being too blatant about it.
"For over a year we have called for these marches to be banned; we reiterated that call yesterday when it was clear that the police would not be able to control the situation," the watchdog said.
And for a year the London authorities coddled the marchers because they, too, hate Israel and Jews.
Leading up to the march, dozens of British politicians, including Jewish officials, wrote a letter to police protesting the route of the rally and saying frequent pro-Paleostinian marches on Saturdays interfered with Jewish religious practice.

Nine days ahead of the march, police issued a statement saying it would use its powers to "prevent the Paleostine Solidarity Campaign forming up in the vicinity of a synagogue ahead of its planned protest." The statement said the decision had been made prior to the politicians’ letter.

But the Paleostine Solidarity Campaign said in its own statement that it rejected the police order, and that it had agreed on the route with the police in November.

The group said the synagogue itself was not on the route of the march and pointed to "thousands" of Jewish participants in its rallies as a sign that they aren’t antisemitic. It said discussions with the police remain ongoing.

On Sunday a ceasefire that had been announced days earlier came into effect after 15 months of war that began when the Paleostinian terror group Hamas
..a regional Iranian catspaw,...
led thousands of murderous Moslems in a devastating attack on Israel in which they killed some 1,200 people and took 251 hostages.

In January this year, Corbyn joined a South African delegation for hearings at the International Court of Justice, where the country accused Israel of committing genocide against Paleostinians in the war against Hamas in Gaza. The veteran left-winger, who led the main opposition Labour Party into the last election in 2019, but stepped down as leader after overseeing its worst results in decades, has been sitting as an independent MP since 2020.

The party suspended him after he refused to fully accept the findings of a rights watchdog’s probe into claims that antisemitism became rampant within Labour’s ranks under his leadership. The Equality and Human Rights Commission ruled the party broke equality law when Corbyn was in charge.

12 arrested as thousands join pro-Palestinian march in London

[IsraelTimes] Participants assault coppers as they arrest man for holding antisemitic placard; others arrested for refusing to remove face coverings, supporting outlawed organization

Tens of thousands of pro-Paleostinian protesters marched in London on Saturday, with police making 12 arrests for alleged offenses including inciting racial hatred and assaulting emergency workers.

The demonstrators gathered at Park Lane in the center of the British capital holding banners demanding a "ceasefire now" while chanting "free Paleostine."

Pro-Paleostinian marches have become a regular feature on Saturdays in London ever since Israel mounted a military response to the Paleostinian terror group Hamas

"People are very, very concerned that there’s going to be a disaster piled upon an already existing disaster in Rafah," John Rees, from Stop the War Coalition, told AFP, referring to a looming Israeli ground offensive in the last remaining Hamas stronghold in the Strip.

"What I hope is that we can avert this tragedy being made permanent," he said.

London’s Metropolitan Police said 12 people were arrested, including two for displaying antisemitic placards.

"A man was seen in the crowd with an antisemitic placard. When officers went in to arrest him they were assaulted, resulting in six arrests," the force posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Two other people were arrested for refusing to remove face coverings when required to do so, while another person was arrested on suspicion of support for a proscribed organization in relation to a placard.

The Metropolitan Police of London said they had arrested three people for handing out leaflets praising the October 7 onslaught during the rally. The flyer voiced "unconditional and wholehearted support and solidarity for the Paleostinian struggle, which is once more breaking out into armed resistance. As it was bound to do."

"We communists join together with all progressive humanity in congratulating the Paleostinian people and their chosen leadership on the audacious, daring and effective military action they are now taking against the last settler-colonial apartheid state, that monstrous proxy for Anglo-American imperialism, usurper of the Paleostinian lands, rights and nationhood, Zionist Israel," it added.

Police warned protesters ahead of the rally that they faced arrest if they "intentionally push the limit" with placards and chants. They also said that protesters must stick to the route specified and that the event must finish by 5 p.m. (1700 GMT). Among the conditions placed for the march was a directive that no participant in the protest will venture near the Israeli Embassy.

Police said they dispersed around 80-100 people who tried to form a smaller march at the end of the main protest.

Some protesters chanted "Yemen, Yemen, make us proud, turn another ship around," expressing support for the rebel group, whose slogan reads "God Is the Greatest, Death to America, Death to Israel, A Curse Upon the Jews, Victory to Islam."

Others called for an "intifada," or uprising, and expressed chants that implied the destruction of Israel, such as, "We don’t want two states, Paleostine ’48."

The plight of children in the Strip after nearly 100 days of war was the focus of the latest London march, symbolized by the appearance of Little Amal, a 3.5-meter (11.5-foot) puppet originally meant to highlight the suffering of Syrian refugees.

The day of action, involving 30 countries, was called by the UK organizing coalition comprising the Paleostine Solidarity Campaign, the Paleostinian Forum in Britannia, the Stop the War Coalition, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Friends of Al Aqsa, and the Moslem Association of Britannia.

"Millions of people will take to the streets across the world this Saturday, to demand a permanent ceasefire and a lasting political settlement for all Paleostinians," said Kate Hudson, general secretary of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

The London march was one of several others being held in European cities including Gay Paree, Rome, Milan, and Dublin where thousands also marched along the Irish capital’s main thoroughfare to protest Israel’s military operations in the Paleostinian enclave.

Protesters waved Paleostinian flags, held placards critical of the Irish, US and Israeli governments, and chanted, "Free, free Paleostine.″

Huge crowds march against Israel in London on Armistice Day, demand Gaza ceasefire
2023-11-11
[IsraelTimes] Multitudes marched through the British capital on Saturday, as pro-Palestinian supporters made their latest mass call for a ceasefire, with police out in force to prevent clashes with counter-protesters.

The "National March for Palestine," organized by the Stop the War Coalition, set off after a two-minute silence to remember Britain’s war dead on Armistice Day was observed at The Cenotaph war memorial in central London at 1100 GMT.

Huge crowds of protesters waved black, red, white and green Palestinian flags and held aloft placards proclaiming "Stop Bombing Gaza," just over a month since Hamas terrorists swept over the border and ravaged Israeli communities, killing more than 1,200 and taking some 240 people hostage.

...London’s Metropolitan Police has made a total of nearly 100 arrests at previous pro-Palestinian marches, including for supporting Hamas, which is proscribed as a terrorist group in the UK, and hate crimes.

But Saturday’s march has generated concern because it coincides with Armistice Day, commemorating the end of fighting in World War I in 1918 — and political criticisms about the policing operation.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made a late plea for calm late on Friday, calling for protesters to do so "respectfully and peacefully."

Met Police deputy assistant commissioner Laurence Taylor said march organizers had changed the route from Hyde Park to the US Embassy in south London to ensure it would not pass any landmark memorials.

Previous events have seen "small groups break away" and "their behavior has been escalating and becoming more violent," Taylor, who is leading the policing operation, told reporters.

...Taylor has said counter-protesters were likely to include groups of football hooligans, and police were "likely" to have to use force at some point against "pockets of confrontation."

British media reported that Tommy Robinson, the leader of the far-right English Defence League, was among the counter-protesters.

About 1,850 police officers, including some from other forces across Britain, have been drafted in to keep the peace, with 1,375 on Sunday, when a national service of remembrance takes place at The Cenotaph led by King Charles III, senior royals and political leaders.

"The decent MPs left in the Labour Party need to stop this event from happening on Tuesday."

Mr Woodcock also drew parallels over the event to hard left Labour leader Mr Corbyn’s notorious invitation to the Commons for Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams just days about the Brighton bomb.

UK Left-wing activists slam 'Stop the War' for refusing to protest against Russia
2016-10-13
Left-wing UK activists have slammed the Stop the War coalition (STWc) over its refusal to heed a call by British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson to protest Russian air strikes on Syria.

The vice-chairman of Britain’s Stop the War coalition on Wednesday said he opposed protesting against Russian bombing of Syria because “the media and politicians” are trying to portray Moscow as the “only problem”.

Chris Nineham was interviewed by the BBC after Johnson on Tuesday urged his group to protest against the ongoing Russian bombardment of rebel-held east Aleppo.

Nineham said his organisation has protested against the Russian war in Syria with “statements” but that they would not be calling for a public rally to demand an end to Moscow’s backing of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in his war against various rebel groups.

“We do not want to contribute to the jingoism and hysteria that is being whipped up against Russia, because that hysteria is being used to try and justify an escalation of the British war effort,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

STWc's stance on Syria, however, has divided left-wing activists in the UK, many of whom believe there should be more grassroots action in support of Syrian civilians.

Mark Boothroyd, a Labour party activist and founding member of Syria Solidarity UK, said that the STWc position on Russia was "completely unprincipled". Boothroyd dismissed the oft-repeated argument by coalition that they only targeted their own government's actions as that was where they could apply leverage.

"Yes I think we should oppose Britain when it's doing things which are not good for the civilians of Syria, and its support for Israel and its backing of Saudi Arabia in its attack on Yemen, but we can also protest other countries when they're carrying out other barbarisms. It's just political consistency and speaking to principle."

Current leader of the opposition Labour party Jeremy Corbyn was a former president of the STWc and spoke at their conference on Saturday. His stance on Syria has been criticised by some of his own supporters, who argue he has been unwilling to sufficiently critcise the Assad government or condemn Russian bombing.

On Monday, a petition was launched by left-wing activists and Labour party members calling for a change in Corbyn's position with regards to Syria, warning that "failure to act on this issue now threatens to undermine practically and politically much of the work done over many years by the anti-war movement."

Peter Hill, a member of the pro-Corbyn pressure group Momentum and signatory to the petition, told MEE that he believed that there should be active campaigning against Russia's actions in Syria.

"As the open letter to Jeremy Corbyn stated, I think that anti-war activists and socialists should condemn the actions of all states which commit acts of aggression and war crimes, not only those of Western powers or states aligned with the West," he said. "I too am sceptical about the motives and interests of Western powers involved in Syria, but I do not see this as a good reason to hedge about condemning Russia and the Assad regime, as the Stop the War Coalition have done.

"Protests at the Russian embassy are an entirely appropriate response to the atrocities committed by Russia in Syria."

summit being held in the Welsh city.
Hundreds? Golly.
The protesters on Thursday marched from the center of the city to Celtic Manor Hotel, which is the main venue for the two-day summit.

Among the protesters were members of the Socialist Party, Socialist Workers Party, Stop the War Coalition parties as well as pro-Paleostinian groups.

"Too much money is being spent on arms and not enough on the health service," said Dai John, a worker for the UK's National Health Service who took part in the protest.

"I cannot see that NATO is protecting people. NATO is killing people. NATO is engaged in war, it is doing war. They are sending drones, they are sending fighters," said Reiner Braun, co-president of the International Peace Bureau and a speaker from the German peace movement, who also attended the campaign.

Anti-NATO activists in the city also organized a counter summit, which began on August 30 and included discussions on drones, nuclear weapons and various ongoing Western military interventions.

Syria anti-War Protesters Hail 'Victory' in London

from taking military action in Syria.

The activists filled the tourist hotspot with Syrian and communist flags, plus banners with slogans such as "No Attack on Syria" and "Hands Off Syria" in the rally organised by the left-wing Stop the War Coalition.

Kate Hudson, general secretary of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, told Agence La Belle France Presse the protesters were calling for the government to stick by Thursday's vote, which saw politicians reject Cameron's bid for British involvement in possible U.S.-led military strikes against Syria.

"We're here also to send a very strong message to President B.O. in the United States. What's good here in Britannia -- that we don't need a war on Syria -- is also good for the United States," Hudson said.

"Every day, dozens if not hundreds of people are killed in Iraq as a direct result of Western intervention. We have to learn the lessons of that and not repeat that in Syria."

Stop the War Coalition attacks Prince Harry for admitting he has killed Taliban
2013-01-23
[INDEPENDENT.CO.UK] The Stop the War Coalition today accused Prince Harry of being "arrogant and insensitive" after he admitted killing Islamic fascisti in Afghanistan.

In a series of interviews to mark the end of his service in Afghanistan, Prince Harry admitted that he had killed members of the Taliban during his 20-week posting, saying: "'Take a life to save a life. That's what we revolve around, I suppose".

But Lindsey German, convenor of the Stop the War Coalition, called the 28-year-old's comments "crass", and asked how he knew those he'd killed were actually members of the Taliban.

"In recent months many civilians have been killed by air strikes. This arrogant and insensitive attitude to killing Afghans, whoever they are, is hardly likely to win hearts and minds - a supposed aim of the war," German said.

She added: "Prince Harry returns to a life of idleness and luxury, unlike most soldiers who face unemployment, austerity and social problems."

'Hands off Iran & Syria': UK activists
2012-01-28
[Iran Press TV] Britannia's Stop the War Coalition has organized a protest rally in front of the US embassy in London on Saturday 28 January to stress opposition to an invasion on Iran.

The protest rally entitled "Hands Off Iran and Syria: No Western intervention", will be held on Saturday from 2pm-4pm outside the US Embassy building in Grosvenor Square London W1, said the Stop the War Coalition in a statement.

The protest campaign is supported by Unite union, War on Want, Paleostine Solidarity Campaign, Campaign against Sanctions and Military Intervention on Iran (CASMII), Friends of Al-Aqsa, Goldsmiths Student Union and SOAS Student Union, the statement added.

It said that the growing threats against Iran in recent weeks have been backed up with increased unilateral sanctions imposed by the US, Britannia and their European allies in the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
military alliance.

"As we know from Iraq, these (the threats and sanctions) are a prelude to war, not an alternative to it. There are signs of covert intervention already in Iran, as there are in Syria. Stop the War opposes all military intervention from the west in the region, for which there is absolutely no justification", the statement added.

Israeli regime is talking more and more of an attack to 'deal with' Iran's nuclear capability, even though it is the only entity in the Middle East that actually has developed nuclear weapons, the coalition noted in its statement.

"Following a year when Britannia and La Belle France led the intervention in Libya the dangers of further western attacks in the region are very real. Under the guise of 'humanitarian intervention' there are already signs of covert intervention in both Iran and Syria. An attack on either country would set the Middle East on fire. Now is the time to start building opposition to these new wars. Join with us to say no to western intervention", added the statement.

Fifth Column
'War on terror, genocide for oil'
2011-11-15
[Iran Press TV] Britannia's involvement in the "so-called 'war on terror'" is "genocide" and a cover for military expansionism to take over the resources of Middle Eastern nations, a leading British anti-war campaign group says.

"The so-called "war on terror" is a cover for our military aggression to gain control of the resources of western Asia," the Stop the War Coalition said.

"This is sending the poor of this country to kill the poor of those Mohammedan countries. This is trading blood for oil. This is genocide, and to most of the world, we are the terrorists," it added.

The campaign group, which is credited with organizing the largest ever anti-war demonstration in British history against the invasion of Iraq, said on the occasion of Remembrance Day -- observed in Commonwealth countries to remember the members of their armed forces killed on duty -- that Britannia has been complicit in subjugating of nations "from Paleostine to Afghanistan to Iraq to Somalia."

It added London has been complicit in "supreme crimes against humanity in Iraq and Afghanistan" yet it dares to call locals, faceless myrmidons and bully boys, "for resisting rape and pillage."

The campaign group also slammed the "bloodthirsty imperial crusade" of Britannia alongside the US, saying western soldiers in the occupied nations no more fight to defend "our freedoms" they are rather laying the foundation for a permanent military presence to ensure the "the freedoms of Exxon Mobil and British Petroleum."

"They're not establishing democracy, they're establishing the basis for an economic occupation to continue after the military occupation has ended," it added.

The campaign group then referred to the hypocritical government of the United States, which has been leading Britannia in more than a decade of bloody wars in the Middle East, under the guise of fighting terror, saying Washington officials are the real terrorists.

"We must dare to speak out ... against all enemies, foreign and domestic, including those terrorist cells in Washington DC more commonly known as the Legislative, Executive & Judicial branches," it said.
