Two die in two US university shootings
2015-10-10
[BBC] Two people have died after two separate university shootings in Texas and Arizona, just hours apart.

One person was killed and three injured in the first shooting at Northern Arizona University early on Friday, which involved fraternity members.

Later that morning a shooting at a student complex near Texas Southern University left one person dead.

Police in Arizona have named the gunman as Steven Jones, an 18-year-old first year student at Northern Arizona University.

Mr Jones has been charged with first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault.

The four victims are members of Delta Chi fraternity but Mr Jones is not. The university has identified the student who died as Colin Brough and said the three students wounded are being treated in hospital.

The second shooting in Texas happened later on Friday morning at the University Courtyard Apartments on the edge of the Houston campus. One student was killed, a freshman at the school, the university confirmed, and another person was wounded. Two people have been detained as suspects and a third may be questioned, said Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva.

In Arizona, the university president expressed shock at the tragedy. "This is not going to be a normal day at NAU," said Rita Cheng. "Our hearts are heavy."

Representatives from the Delta Chi fraternity's national organisation said its members were involved in the confrontation.

Maria Gonzalez, a student at Northern Arizona University, said that she initially thought that she was hearing fireworks. "I was studying for an exam so I looked out the window and see two people running, and that's when I realised they weren't fireworks they were actually gunshots," she said. "How am I supposed to feel safe where I'm learning?"

Deadly Shooting at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ
2015-10-09
One person was killed and three were injured in a shooting outside a dormitory early Friday morning at Northern Arizona University in the city of Flagstaff.

The gunman is now in custody and the surviving victims are being treated at Flagstaff Medical Center, the school said.

"We are asking the faculty to be sensitive to the needs of our students and their families," Northern State University President Rita Cheng said at a news conference 6 a.m. local time. "This is not going to be a normal day at NAU. Our hearts are heavy."

Northern Arizona University Police Chief Gregory T. Fowler identified the gunman as 18-year-old student Steven Jones and said he used a handgun.

Jones allegedly used his gun at 1:20 a.m. during a confrontation that spiraled out of control outside Mountainview Hall on the northeast side of the campus.

The suspect had stopped firing his handgun by the time campus police arrived and did not attempt to flee the scene, according to Fowler. He was taken into custody without further incident.

BYU Professor on Paid Leave for 9-11 Theory
2006-09-08
A controversy over words at BYU this morning. A professor is on paid leave for suggesting the government is responsible for the destruction of the World Trade Center. The man on paid leave is Dr. Steven Jones. He's a physics professor involved in the so-called "9-11 Truth Movement."
He's also one of the guys who was involved in the big cold fusion hype some years back.
Jones believes unnamed government agencies orchestrated the fall of the twin towers and he says there's evidence to back it up. Two weeks ago he published his theory in a paper called "Why Indeed did the World Trade Center Buildings Collapse?" In it, the professor says the towers fell not because of planes hitting them but rather pro-positioned demolition charges.

He sites research conducted at BYU on materials from ground zero, asserting those materials show evidence of thermite, a compound used in military detonations. He says terrorists could have never set those charges.

The State Department has released a rebuttal to Jones' theory in a 10-thousand page report.

BYU made this statement last night:

"Physics Professor Steven Jones has made numerous statements about the collapse of the World Trade Center. BYU has repeatedly said that it does not endorse assertions made by individual faculty.

"We are, however, concerned about the increasingly speculative and accusatory nature of these statements by Dr. Jones."

The university added, "BYU remains concerned that Dr. Jones' works on this topic has not been published in appropriate scientific venues."

It is rare for some in Dr. Jones' position to be under review because he has taught at BYU for more than a decade. He began his career at the university in 1985 and has been known his cold fusion research. But other professors will teach his classes while he's on paid leave. He will be allowed to conduct research in his field but the university is reviewing his actions.
The university gets one thing exactly right: if he 'research', publish it in a peer-reviewed journal. Put it all out there for people to see, and let peers and experts decide whether it measures up. That's what real academics do.

Actor Charlie Sheen Questions Official 9/11 Story
2006-03-20
Calls for truly independent investigation, joins growing ranks of prominent credible whistleblowers

Alex Jones & Paul Joseph Watson/Prison Planet.com | March 20 2006

Actor Charlie Sheen has joined a growing army of other highly credible public figures in questioning the official story of 9/11 and calling for a new independent investigation of the attack and the circumstances surrounding it.

Over the past two years, scores of highly regarded individuals have gone public to express their serious doubts about 9/11. These include former presidential advisor and CIA analyst Ray McGovern, the father of Reaganomics and former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury Paul Craig Roberts, BYU physics Professor Steven Jones, former German defense minister Andreas von Buelow, former MI5 officer David Shayler, former Blair cabinet member Michael Meacher, former Chief Economist for the Department of Labor during President George W. Bush's first term Morgan Reynolds and many more.

Speaking to The Alex Jones Show on the GCN Radio Network, the star of current hit comedy show Two and a Half Men and dozens of movies including Platoon and Young Guns, Sheen elaborated on why he had problems believing the government's version of events.

Sheen agreed that the biggest conspiracy theory was put out by the government itself and prefaced his argument by quoting Theodore Roosevelt in stating, "That we are to stand by the President right or wrong is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

"We're not the conspiracy theorists on this particular issue," said Sheen.

"It seems to me like 19 amateurs with box cutters taking over four commercial airliners and hitting 75% of their targets, that feels like a conspiracy theory. It raises a lot of questions."

Sheen described the climate of acceptance for serious discussion about 9/11 as being far more fertile than it was a couple of years ago.

"It feels like from the people I talk to in and around my circles, it seems like the worm is turning."
