Italian FM reveals country ceased arms shipments to Israel starting October 7 |
2024-01-23 |
[IsraelTimes] In rebuttal of opposition politician’s concerns Italian arms being used for ’war crimes,’ Antonio Tajani states weapons exports were halted at war’s outset. Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani told local media Saturday that his country had halted all arms shipments to Israel since Hamas ![]() ’s brutal October 7 onslaught. The minister’s comments, made in an interview with Italian newspapers Nazione, Giorno, and Resto del Carlino, were a response to a demand by opposition leader Elly Schlein that the Italian government stop weapons exports to the Middle East. Tajani accused her of being "misinformed." "Since October 7, we have decided not to send any more arms to Israel, so there is no need to discuss this point," said Tajani, according to a report from Italian news agency ANSA. Speaking at a Friday meeting of the center-left Democratic Party ...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, whiteanything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nastyto the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects... , which she heads, Schlein said that "we must face the issue of avoiding fueling these conflicts, of avoiding sending arms and exporting arms to conflicts, to the conflict in the Middle East, in this case particularly to Israel," according to ANSA. "We cannot risk weapons being used to commit what could be construed as war crimes," added the opposition politician. According to Israeli news site Walla, some five percent of Israeli arms purchases over the past decade have come from Italia, which include helicopters and naval artillery. Oh. So the stoppage is more in the way of an annoyance than an existential crisis. In separate news, Tajani said in an interview with Italian radio Friday that his country would be willing to send troops to a peacekeeping mission in Gazoo...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppressionand disproportionate response... , ANSA reported. That’s nice. On Sunday, following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s stated refusal to accept a two-state formula for peace, Tajani told news hounds that President Isaac Herzog is nonetheless open to such a solution, according to a report in Italian daily Il Tempo. But the president of Israel is a ceremonial post without power, like an elected constitutional monarch. His agreement or disagreement matters not in the least. Tajani, a former air force officer ...he was an air defense controller on a radar base in the middle of Italy... who has led the conservative Forza Italia party since the death of its chairman Silvio Berlusconi in July, made an early solidarity visit to Israel at the start of the war on Hamas, and in November reaffirmed with other G7 nations his belief in Israel’s right to defend itself, within the bounds of international law, against Hamas aggression.By December, the Italian foreign minister struck a more critical tone, condemning Israel for shooting inside a Gaza church. Wasn’t that shown to actually have been the work of Hamas? In January, as president of the G7, Tajani explored with other foreign ministers in the group the possibility of applying pressure on Israel to bring the war to a "rapid" end.Hamas has promised to repeat the October 7th massacre over and over until the Jews are all gone. Forcing a premature end to the Israeli response will just bring the next kidnap-and-massacre attack that much closer. On the subject of South Africa’s ongoing claim at the International Court of Justice that Israel is committing "genocide" against Gazooks, Tajani has said that although Israel has hit civilians in Gaza, it is not committing genocide.Good to hear. Berlusconi, the erstwhile leader of Tajani’s party, and a colorful, scandal-ridden, media mogul who served as Italia’s prime minister for a cumulative nine years, was known to be a strong supporter of Israel, even raising the possibility that the Jewish state join the European Union...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... . It was under Berlusconi that Italia sold 30 jet trainers to Israel, in a billion-dollar deal. Though critical of Israel’s West Bank settlements, Berlusconi at one time stated that the West should support Israel in the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict. |

Italian PM Giorgia Meloni breaks up with partner |
2023-10-21 |
[GEO.TV] Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced her separation from her partner, television journalist Andrea Giambruno, following his recent controversial and sexist comments. The split occurs as Meloni marks her first year in office leading a right-wing coalition government that emphasises traditional family values. In a social media statement, Meloni confirmed the end of her nearly 10-year relationship with Giambruno, noting that their paths had diverged over time. She expressed her determination not to be distracted by difficulties in her personal life and indicated that attempts to weaken her by targeting her at home would be in vain. The couple, who met in a TV studio in 2014, shares a seven-year-old daughter. Giambruno, aged 42, is a news program presenter for Mediaset, a media group owned by the heirs of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, a political ally of Meloni. Recently, a satirical current affairs television show on Mediaset aired off-air video clips from Giambruno's program, revealing him using explicit language, making inappropriate gestures, and appearing to make advances to a female colleague. In a separate audio recording aired on Thursday, Giambruno discussed an affair and suggested that female colleagues could work with him if they engaged in group sexual activities. |

More details - in the material Now "mohadzhery" . 21:11 The Canadian Foreign Ministry also called on the citizens of the country to immediately leave Belarus due to the risk of arbitrary application of local laws and war in Ukraine. 20:48 The head of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Geusgen, spoke out against any "red lines" in providing military assistance to Ukraine. In his opinion, one should be guided solely by military necessity - therefore, the supply of fighter aircraft cannot be ruled out. 20:41 Zelensky signed a decree according to which a military man with the rank of lieutenant general or vice admiral can be appointed as the first deputy defense minister. 19:59 Moscow considers it inexpedient to extend the grain deal if sanctions affecting its agricultural exports are not lifted from Russia, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said. According to him, the grain initiative is "carried out unfairly" due to sanctions against Russian agricultural exports. The Russian Foreign Ministry also once again complained that Ukrainian grain is allegedly exported mainly to developed countries. 19:50 Reznikov said that on Friday, February 10, he held a meeting of the working group on the creation of an anti-corruption advisory body under the Ministry of Defense. Activists, experts and public organizations have already joined the working group, including, in particular, Bigus Info, the Center for Defense Strategies, Demsokira, Stop Corruption, the NABU Public Control Council, VO Automaidan and others. 19:04 Zaluzhny said that on the eve of the meeting in the Ramstein format, he had a telephone conversation with the Supreme Commander of the Allied NATO Armed Forces in Europe and the Commander of the US Armed Forces in Europe, Christopher Cavoli: "We discussed the supply of international military assistance to Ukraine and the training of our units on the territory of partner countries . Shared assessments of the operational situation on the front of the Russian-Ukrainian war and plans for further actions." "Ukraine's victory will mean not only the liberation of its territories, but also the creation of such conditions and such Armed Forces that will never allow the Russians to attack our state in the future," the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stressed. 19:01 Poland is disappointed with the draft of the tenth package of EU sanctions against Russia, said Polish Ambassador to the European Union Andrzej Sadosz. According to him, it does not provide for sanctions against Rosatom, there is no ban on the import of Russian diamonds and the exclusion of Gazprom from the Upstream Emission Reduction system, which provides for trading in emission certificates for hydrocarbon production. 18:56 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on the capture of Krasnaya Gora near Bakhmut, however, the speaker of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Sergei Cherevaty, said in a comment to CNN that this is not true and that fighting continues there. 18:53 Mobilized Russian servicemen from units belonging to the 1st Army Corps of the Southern Military District are increasingly refusing to go on the offensive. Therefore, the mobilized men from the Donetsk region are removed from the second and third lines and sent to the training grounds. There they train for two weeks and are formed into assault units for offensive operations in the Avdiivka direction, the State Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports. 18:46 Reznikov announced the personnel and structural renewal of the Ministry of Defense after the scandal surrounding the purchase of food for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The minister said that he had submitted a list of new deputies for approval. 18:17 Financial Times writes, citing sources, about an acute shortage of ammunition in Ukraine. The intelligence of one of the NATO countries reported that the Ukrainian army spends 5,000 shells per day - so many small countries buy in a year. At the same time, the Russian army is estimated to spend four times more. Stoltenberg said that Ukraine's current rate of ammunition consumption is "many times higher than our current rate of production." 17:54 Russia now does not have the strength to lay a land corridor through Odessa to Transnistria and encircle Ukraine from the back, although there is still such a plan, said NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana. At the same time, he recalled the Kremlin’s attempts to undermine the situation in Moldova from within, in order to prevent its European integration and undermine the leadership of President Maia Sandu: “I want to say to Moldovan, Georgian friends: you can count on us, don’t let yourself be intimidated. strength." 17:45 Zelensky said that he had a telephone conversation with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stere: "Thanked for the new defense package, which will strengthen us on earth, in the sky and at sea. I am also grateful for the weighty five-year assistance package that is being prepared for approval in Norway. We discussed our further cooperation." 17:17 After Ukraine's victory, NATO allies will be able to become a party to agreements on providing security guarantees to Kiev, Stoltenberg said: "I will not speculate exactly how they can be formulated, but I say that any agreements where NATO allies can provide any guarantees to Ukraine are absolutely possible, and this may be part of the overall solution for Ukraine to secure against further Russian attacks." At the same time, the Secretary General stressed that "before securing the future of Ukraine, we must help them win this war." According to him, Ukraine needs to be strengthened and re-equipped according to NATO standards to such an extent that it is able to withstand further aggression. 16:49 The French Foreign Ministry called on the citizens of their country to immediately leave Belarus in connection with the hostilities in Ukraine. 16:36 The offensive of the Russian military near Vuhledar has bogged down, but the White House predicts more bloody battles for Donbass in the spring. About what is known at the moment - in the material "The Great Offensive" of the Russians . 16:11 Putin, six months before the war, from August 2021, began to move around the country more often not by plane, but by a special armored train, the Dossier Center reports. This is due to privacy and security considerations, since it is impossible to track the movement of the train, as it happens with aircraft using various services. At the same time, an armored train built specifically for it is visually indistinguishable from standard Russian Railways trains. The train schedule in Russia is specially adjusted so that Putin can travel at maximum speed without stopping. 15:46 In Poland, the exercises of Ukrainian tankers on Leopard 2 also began, Radio Liberty reported and showed the first footage. 15:12 The Russians have already assigned two "deputies" to the Gauleiter of the occupied part of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, from Chelyabinsk and the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov said. According to him, local residents refuse to cooperate with the Russians even for the sake of "prestigious" positions, and the Kremlin bosses do not trust local collaborators and control them from all sides. 15:05 Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi criticized the current Prime Minister George Meloni for meeting with Zelensky and accused Ukraine of allegedly "attacking the Donbass." He also called for an end to support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In response, Meloni's office stressed that Italy would continue to firmly support Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko, in turn, recalled how Berlusconi once kissed the hands of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, demonstrating loyalty. Now, he says, Berlusconi is trying to "kiss Putin's hands, which are up to the elbows in blood." 14:59 The Russian army is expanding the training ground near Voronezh and has built a tent camp for the mobilized near the village of Postoyalyye Dvory in the Kursk region, Radio Liberty reports. At the Pogonovo training ground, work began on January 25, and the camp was built between January 28 and February 7. Satellite images from Planet clearly show the pace of construction. 14:43 Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto arrived in Minsk and said that he would present Budapest's position on the need for peace talks on Ukraine. "Obviously, many will attack me because of the visit, but our position is clear: the channels of communication must be kept open," he said. 14:27 Stoltenberg said that NATO defense ministers will discuss the acceleration of military supplies to Ukraine on February 14-15. He added that the meeting will also discuss the supply of military aircraft to Kyiv. However, according to him, the priority now is not planes, but the already promised weapons, including armored vehicles. The NATO Secretary General noted that a new Russian offensive in Ukraine has already begun. 13:49 More than 150 officials from different countries will come to Munich for this year's security conference, Russia will not be represented, said the head of the conference, Christoph Heusgen. Ukraine will be represented by Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and more than 20 parliamentarians. Heusgen emphasized that Russia was not invited this year, as well as the "right" deputies of the German Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany party. In addition, the head of the conference called Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov "the mouthpiece of Putin and the Kremlin." According to him, the forum could not allow the event to be used for propaganda: "We have been intensively watching in recent months and weeks what is happening. Putin has not deviated one iota from his line in his statements. He denies the right to existence of an independent Ukraine.. "There are indications that traces of the MH17 crash lead to the Kremlin." The Munich Security Conference will be held February 17-19. 13:35 According to the UN, since the start of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, more than 21 million tons of agricultural products have been exported from the ports of Ukraine, almost half of this volume is corn. Among the recipients of cargo in the first place are China (4.2 million tons), Spain (3.8 million), Turkey (2.4 million), the Netherlands (1.2 million) and Egypt (724.7 thousand tons). 13:16 Training of Ukrainian tank crews to operate the Leopard 2 has started in Germany, the German Defense Ministry has reported. They should be completed by the end of the first quarter - simultaneously with the transfer of 14 Leopard 2А6 tanks to Kyiv. 12:47 On the Luhansk front, massive round-the-clock attacks by Russians are expected in the coming days, said the head of the OVA, Sergei Gaidai. Now, according to him, the hottest spots are in Belogorovka and in the Kremennaya area. In particular, today at about four in the morning the Russians attacked Belogorovka from all sides, but the Ukrainian forces repelled the offensive. The same situation occurred in the Kremensk direction: the enemy attacked with a large number of personnel, but after a military clash with the Ukrainian defense forces, he retreated. The situation in the Svatovsky direction is stable. 12:26 Telegram channels close to PMC Wagner have published a video of supposedly another execution of a mercenary who surrendered to Ukrainian captivity . The man introduces himself as Dmitry Yakushchenko from Crimea and says that he fought in the PMC, but supported Ukraine. The first part of the video was recorded in Ukrainian captivity. Yakushchenko is then shown lying on the floor in the room. There he says that he woke up in this room after being hit on the head and now he will be judged. Afterwards, a retouched video shows him allegedly being killed with a sledgehammer. The public suggests that Yakushchenko could have been exchanged in December, after which he again fell into the hands of the Wagnerites. 11:57 Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that Russia plans to carry out a coup d'état in the country, including through opposition protests and with the involvement of people with military training, as well as citizens of the Russian Federation, Belarus, Serbia and Montenegro. According to her, they plan to attack government buildings and change power in the republic. Sandu recalled that there were already such attempts last autumn, but thanks to the prompt intervention of the Moldovan authorities, they were unsuccessful. "Documents received from our Ukrainian partners indicate the locations and logistical aspects of organizing this subversive activity," Sandu added. 11:39 The EU is preparing sanctions against four Russian banks, including Alfa Bank, as well as 130 organizations and individuals, Politico reports, citing sources. 11:18 Electricity consumption in Ukraine on Monday, February 13, is gradually growing, but there is no shortage of power yet, Ukrenergo reported. This is due, among other things, to generation from renewable energy sources and electricity imports from Slovakia. Consumption limits in the region have not been set to date, measurements of actual consumption are carried out in accordance with the schedule. At the same time, due to the damaged network infrastructure in Odessa, there are hourly outage schedules. In Kyiv, Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr regions and Kiev, as consumption increases, it is also possible to apply shutdowns in accordance with schedules to avoid the risk of equipment overload. 10:46 Reznikov said that he left for the next meeting in the Ramstein format, which will be held in Brussels on Tuesday, February 14. He listed the main items on the agenda of the ninth meeting:
10:21 British intelligence reports, citing images from open sources, that as of February 7, Russia has further strengthened defenses in the central part of the Zaporozhye region, including near Tarasovka. In addition, as of January 8, the Russian Federation installed defense fortifications between the cities of Vasilyevka and Orekhov, Zaporozhye region. Analysts note that while Russia has focused its operational efforts on the central Donbas, it remains concerned about protecting the outermost sections of its extended front line. After all, a significant breakthrough by Ukrainian troops in the Zaporozhye region would cast doubt on the viability of the Russian land bridge connecting the Rostov region and Crimea, and Ukraine's success in Lugansk would further undermine Russia's proclaimed military goal - "liberation of Donbass." Deciding which of these threats to prioritize is likely one of the biggest dilemmas for Russian operational planners, the intelligence said. 10:09 The Ministry of Defense reported that Denmark transferred to Ukraine all of its CAESAR self-propelled howitzers. 09:27 Speaker OK Pivden Natalya Gumenyuk admits that the next time the Russian Federation may launch a massive missile attack on Ukraine on the anniversary of the February 24 invasion. According to her, the Russians have recently been delivering such strikes once every two weeks, and the last one was on February 10th. 09:22 In the evening of February 12, at least three loud explosions sounded in the Mariupol region, Petr Andryushchenko, an adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, said. It is known about getting into the premises of school No. 3 in the village. Nikolsk, where the Russians were stationed. The Russians themselves, an hour later, said that they allegedly shot down the Tochka U missile, but this is not true. After the explosions, the sounds of detonation were heard for some time. Meanwhile, compulsory passportization of children began in the Mariupol region: all students in the 9th and 11th grades are forced to obtain a Russian passport, threatening that without it they will not be issued a certificate. Students of the 9th grade can get a passport only if their parents already have a Russian passport. 09:13 Ukrzaliznytsia reported damage to the railway track as a result of shelling in the Kherson region, which is why train No. 102/101 Kiev-Kherson will temporarily follow to Nikolaev. From there, passengers will be delivered to Kherson by bus shuttles. Passengers from Kherson, who are waiting for a flight in the Kiev direction, will also be transported by buses to Nikolaev. The road repair is already in progress. 09:02 American astronaut Scott Kelly called on Elon Musk to return full access to the Starlink Internet to Ukraine. Musk replied that this type of communication is the main one for the Ukrainian military at the front, where other communications are completely destroyed, but he will not allow an escalation that could lead to a third world war. 08:57 In the Kherson region over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, three people were killed, another was injured, the OVA reported. 08:53 Russian occupiers in Berdyansk dispersed pensioners standing in line for payments near the post office with shots, the city military administration reported. The GVA recalled that the occupiers banned the hryvnia, so local residents are forced to receive assistance in rubles. Since there is no well-functioning system in the temporarily occupied territories, people have to stand in lines for days to receive payments or pay for services. Pensioners, in order to receive 10 thousand rubles, occupied a queue from midnight on February 11. In the morning there was a crush, and people broke down the door of the post office. As a result, the so-called "police" arrived and began to disperse the pensioners with shots in the air. 08:46 In the Donetsk region over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, one person died - in the Clock Yar. Another person in the region was injured, Pavel Kirilenko, head of the OVA, said. 08:34 The General Staff announced the approximate losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of February 13.
08:23 The Russians are suffering significant losses, especially in manpower, but they continue to attempt an offensive in the Kupyansky, Limansky, Bakhmutsky, Avdeevsky and Novopavlovsky directions, the General Staff said in the morning summary . Over the past day, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled the attacks of the invaders in the areas of the settlements of Gryanikovka, Kharkiv region; Kremennaya and Belogorovka, Luhansk region; Vyemka, Fedorovka, Vasyukovka, Bakhmut, Ivanovskoye and Klescheevka in Donetsk region and Zheleznodorozhnoe in Zaporozhye region. About 200 servicemen of the National Guard arrived in the Kherson region to strengthen counter-sabotage measures. They were settled on the territory of the Chaika recreation center in Lazurny, and for the safety of the occupiers, the movement of local residents in the village was limited. Due to the poor provision of winter uniforms, the number of Russian servicemen with frostbite has increased significantly since January. So, in medical institutions of Gorlovka, Donetsk region, the number of patients with such a diagnosis reaches 30% of all wounded. 07:40 The US Embassy in Russia appealed to American citizens to leave the territory of the Russian Federation and not to go there because of the risk of unlawful detentions, persecution and terrorism, and also given the limited ability of diplomats to provide assistance. 06:26 Russia probably completely lost the elite 155th Marine Brigade in the battles near Ugledar, Politico reports citing Alexei Dmitrashkovsky, a representative of the Defense Forces of the Tauride direction. The brigade from Vladivostok was defeated, including the command staff. "The 155th brigade has already had to be understaffed three times already. The first time - after Irpen and Bucha, the second time - after the defeat near Donetsk. And now almost the entire brigade has been destroyed near Ugledar," Dmitrashkovsky is quoted as saying. According to him, 150-300 Russian marines were killed in this direction every day, and about 130 units of enemy equipment, including 36 tanks, were destroyed in a week. |

There is strong evidence that the Wagnerists’ harsh counterterrorism tactics in countries like Mali are exacerbating the situation by creating more opportunities for extremist exploitation," a senior Biden administration official said on condition of anonymity. According to Politico, Washington plans to tighten sanctions against PMC Wagner to limit its role in Ukraine. 19:37 As a result of today's Russian shelling of one of the liberated settlements in the Luhansk region, two people were killed and two were injured, said the head of the OVA Serhiy Gaidai. He also said that the Russians are constantly attacking and shelling Belogorovka, but the Ukrainian military have improved their positions there and hold on tight. On the Svatovsky and Kremensky directions, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are moving forward, they manage to gradually de-occupy the territory in the direction of Kremennaya. At the same time, the invaders are constantly pulling up new reserves there, Gaidai added. In Novoselovskoye, the enemy did not leave a single intact building. 19:31 Sweden is working on providing Ukraine with the Archer self-propelled guns that Zelensky asked for, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said: “I have always said that we are strong enough to make a contribution with such an advanced weapon system. This work continues, and I will report as soon as we finish it." 19:19 Estonia was the first European country to begin preparations for the confiscation of arrested Russian assets. Tallinn plans to present a legal plan for the seizure of assets in January, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mihkel Tamm said. The country froze Russian assets for almost 20 million euros. The Estonian government is in favor of transferring the frozen assets to Ukraine. 19:15 During rocket attacks on the city of Merefa, Kharkiv region on Saturday, January 7, the largest mini-refinery in Ukraine was destroyed. According to Suspilny, the speaker of the regional department of the State Emergency Service, Yevgeny Vasilenko, as a result of the shelling, one person was killed and another was wounded. 18:42 In the village of Nizhniye Serogozy, Kherson region, the so-called "prosecutor's office" of the occupation administration began work on the "nationalization" of local enterprises on January 9, the General Staff said in an evening summary. The report also says that up to 300 invaders were delivered to the city hospital of Lisichansk, Luhansk region, in the first week of this year alone. 18:37 Zelensky said that he had a telephone conversation with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala: "Thanked for Ukraine's support during the Czech Republic's presidency of the EU Council. He informed about the situation at the front, the threat of Russian escalation. We appreciate the important Czech defense support, we expect its strengthening .Special attention was paid to the implementation of the Ukrainian formula for peace." 18:24 Zelensky said that he met in Kiev with the Executive Vice President of the European Commission for the European Green Deal Frans Timmermans, discussed the state of functioning of the energy system of Ukraine. The President stressed that in the process of recovery, Ukraine will focus on the implementation of green projects and is ready to become one of the European hubs of modern green energy. 17:56 After an unsuccessful attempt to capture Soledar and retreat, the enemy regrouped, resumed losses, deployed additional assault detachments, changed tactics and launched a powerful assault, Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said. According to her, the enemy involved a large number of assault groups, formed from the best reserves of the Wagnerites. "The enemy is advancing literally on the corpses of his own soldiers, massively using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, laying fire even on their own fighters. Our defenders courageously defend every meter of their native land. Fierce battles continue right now," Malyar said. 17:47 At the Russian military airfield Engels-2, the number of combat-ready aircraft has decreased, the draft Scheme of Radio Liberty reported, citing satellite imagery data for January 7. In particular, four Tu-95 strategic bombers and two Tu-160 supersonic bombers are now based there. In December, there were about 20 aircraft at this base. 17:43 The number of wounded in Ochakovo has increased to ten, among them a two-year-old child, the chairman of the Nikolaev regional council Anna Zamazeeva reported. 17:26 In Ochakovo, after the Russian shelling, there are already eight wounded, the figure is not final, the head of the Nikolaev OVA Vitaly Kim said. 16:57 The lull in the use of Iranian drones is due to the fact that Russia has fewer and fewer weapons, so it has concentrated on a more careful choice of targets, said OK Pivden speaker Natalya Gumenyuk: "They have been launching reconnaissance drones lately. They are looking for exactly where point your weapon." 16:52 Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova confirmed that she plans to meet with Ukrainian human rights ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets. According to her, the meeting will be held in Turkey from 12 to 14 January. 16:23 In the future, Ukraine will receive a "symbolic number" of Leopard tanks from Poland, said Yakub Kumoch, head of the International Policy Bureau of the Office of the President. 16:15 According to updated information, as a result of a missile attack on the Shevchenkove village in the Kharkiv region, six people were injured, two died, Oleg Sinegubov, head of the OVA, said. 16:11 Russians fired at Ochakov of the Nikolaev area, the hospital is damaged, the head of OVA Vitaly Kim reported. The head of the regional National Police, Sergei Shaikhet, specified that as a result of the shelling of the city, three people were injured, 50 buildings were damaged. 15:58 In the Donetsk region, two British volunteers Andrew Begshaw and Christopher Perry disappeared, the National Police reported. On the morning of January 6, they left Kramatorsk for Soledar, after which contact with them disappeared. 15:52 The UK is considering transferring "a certain number" of Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine, Sky News reports citing its sources. Negotiations have been going on for several weeks now. London believes that such a move would encourage allies to follow suit. 15:39 Zelensky said that he had the first telephone conversation with the newly elected President of Slovenia Natasha Pirc Musar: "I discussed defense cooperation with her, invited her to take part in the implementation of the peace formula. He thanked her for supporting Ukraine's European integration. He invited me to visit Kiev." 15:11 Kuleba said that military assistance is still not enough: “Ukraine is grateful to partners for their military assistance, but we must remain honest with each other: no one has done enough while Russian boots remain on Ukrainian soil. Arming our country for the sake of victory is the shortest path to the restoration of peace and security in Europe and beyond." 15:06 Today, a full truckload of liquidated Russian soldiers was brought to the Melitopol morgue. In places, the torn bodies were unloaded in bulk, occupying the entire morgue, said the mayor of the city, Ivan Fedorov. According to him, hospitals in Melitopol are also overflowing with wounded occupiers, who were brought in from Vasilyevka and other settlements north of Melitopol. 15:02 The Russians attacked an industrial facility in Konstantinovka, Donetsk region. Kurakhovka also came under massive shelling - at least two civilians were injured, more than 20 houses were damaged, Pavel Kirilenko, head of the UVA, said. 14:35 Sweden, which presides over the European Union, has officially confirmed that the Ukraine-EU summit will be held in Kiev on February 3 , writes DW. It is expected that it will be attended by the heads of the European Council and the European Commission, Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen. 14:06 Zelensky said that he had spoken with Prime Minister of Portugal António Costa: "We talked about cooperation in security issues. He thanked for the readiness to provide effective support to the energy system of Ukraine. We also discussed specific steps to implement our peace formula." 13:49 The new military registration procedure does not imply that subpoenas will be received through the Diya application, Mstislav Banik, head of electronic services development at the Ministry of Digital Development, said: "Neither this resolution, nor any other, provides for the receipt of subpoenas through Diya. In our plan there are no such tasks yet." According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, a new service should appear in Dії - an electronic military ID. How it will be implemented and how the service will work is not yet told. 13:21 Italy will not make a decision on the supply of weapons to Ukraine until February due to political tensions, considerations regarding the cost of weapons and a lack of military funds, writes La Repubblica. According to the publication, Prime Minister George Meloni faced resistance in approving a decree on the supply of weapons to Ukraine from her right-wing allies Matteo Salvini and Silvio Berlusconi. Both politicians have long-standing ties to Moscow. 13:17 The enemy again made a desperate attempt to storm Soledar from different directions and threw the most professional Wagner units into battle, but suffered significant losses and once again retreated, Alexander Syrsky, commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said. 13:10 OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid said that Russia's membership in the organization still makes sense. According to her, within the framework of the OSCE, everyone who is important for the European security architecture sits at the same table. Schmid recalled that the organization emerged from a Cold War confrontation and was founded by countries that had very different interests but wanted to prevent escalation. "One day we will need communication channels again," the secretary general believes. 12:58 The German authorities will have to withdraw Marder infantry fighting vehicles for Ukraine from the Bundeswehr stocks, Spiegel writes. Berlin announced the transfer of 40 infantry fighting vehicles to Kyiv on January 5, and the manufacturer Rheinmetall only learned about these plans at the beginning of January. He said that he would not have time to re-equip and prepare the machines before the end of March, as promised by the German side. The Bundeswehr has about 370 Marders in service, but many of them require major repairs. As of the end of November 2022, their readiness was only 62%, according to internal documents of the German Ministry of Defense. 12:50 This night, the Russians fired at one of Kherson's critical infrastructure enterprises. As a result of the attack, a fire broke out, and an electrical substation was destroyed that feeds several large boiler houses. The supply of heat and light in Kherson did not stop, said the head of the OVA, Yaroslav Yanushevich. 12:46 Peskov called the statement that Russia is proposing to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine according to the Korean scenario, as stated by NSDC Secretary Alexei Danilov, a "duck". 12:41 Zelensky said that he had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovachevsky at the beginning of this country's OSCE chairmanship: "We discussed the risks of escalation at the front, further defense cooperation and the deepening of bilateral relations between our countries." 12:34 The death toll as a result of the Russian strike on the Shevchenkovo village killed two people, five more were injured, among them a child, said the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov. 12:28 Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolay Patrushev said that Russia is not at war with Ukraine, hatred for ordinary Ukrainians "by definition cannot be in our country." According to him, the whole story with Ukraine was started in Washington, "in order to work out the technologies for delimiting and playing off a single people." 12:23 PMC Wagner does not want to release prisoners after six months of service on the Ukrainian front, and those who try to escape or surrender to the Armed Forces of Ukraine are shot and declared missing so as not to pay compensation to their relatives, said the founder of the Gulagu.Net project Vladimir Osechkin. According to him, only 15-20% of prisoners survive the six-month "business trip" to the war in Ukraine, while most of the survivors are seriously injured.
Those who try to flee the battlefield or surrender are shot, Osechkin says: “Your army opens fire on them from artillery. There are cases when 7-8 people, a whole squad of prisoners, tries to surrender - and shells cover ... We interviewed a number of Wagnerites who fled the battlefield, they tell monstrous things about mass graves. People are simply dumped in one place and buried in order not to pay compensation. " 11:40 The situation in Soledar remains difficult, 22 clashes took place in the city in a day, said the speaker of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhiy Cherevaty: "Frosty weather, if it continues, will allow the use of heavy equipment such as tanks, armored personnel carriers. Therefore, counter-offensive actions are possible. Here which side is better prepared, that one will have an advantage ... Yesterday the front commanders gave commands to the commanders directly carrying out tasks in Soledar. Additional forces and means were issued for this." 11:21 The occupiers of the Melitopol region feel the "smell of fried food" and are already preparing the ground for retreat, Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov said. According to him, the Russians traditionally build defense lines around the city. However, if earlier they dug in from three sides - Kherson region, Donbass and Zaporozhye, now they are building fortifications to the south of Melitopol towards the Crimea. Concrete cones were placed 40 km from the city between the villages of Volchanskoye and Krasnoye, and trenches are being dug in the area of the Kakhovka Canal. 11:13 In the Russian Federation, a new wave of soldier mobilization is being prepared: over the past two weeks, the Russians have taken many men not only to the east, but also to the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, said Vadim Skibitsky, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. At the same time, he added that Russia did not have enough troops for a new offensive from the north. In his opinion, Belarus will be used mainly as a base for the reorganization of troops. Skibitsky also noted that Makiivka is part of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, which began in August, "and there will be others." Skibitsky warned that with the drop in temperatures, the Russians could launch a new attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. At the same time, he added that before the New Year, the Russians used only 20 missiles in raids, at present they have only 90 Iskanders left. 11:08 Ukraine cannot restore the power grid without Soviet equipment, Ukrenergo head Volodymyr Kudrytsky said in an interview with the Financial Times. According to him, there is a particular shortage of 750 kV transformers, each of which weighs up to 200 tons. And although some of them were sourced from former communist countries such as Lithuania, most of the destroyed transformers need to be rebuilt. 10:59 As of the morning of January 9, electricity consumption in Ukraine has increased due to a drop in temperature and an increase in consumption by industry and business with the start of the working week, Ukrenergo reported. In this regard, in order to ensure a balance in the energy system, consumption limits have been brought to all regions of Ukraine, operating from 4:00 to 24:00. The situation with power supply in the front-line regions in the east and south remains difficult due to significant damage to the power grid during the hostilities. In addition, at night the Russians fired at one of the generation facilities in the south of the country. 10:55 As a result of the Russian strike on the local market in the village of Shevchenkove, Kupyansky district, Kharkiv region, one person died, rescuers continue to sort out the rubble, said the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov. 10:46 British intelligence reports that since June 2022, Russia will almost certainly use the latest Su-57 Felon for strikes on Ukraine, however, it limits their flights only to its territory, fearing losses. According to satellite images, five Su-57 aircraft are stationed at the Akhtubinsk air base, where the 929th flight test center of the Russian Federation is located. Analysts believe that Russia is trying to avoid the reputational damage, reduced export prospects and compromised confidential technology that could result from the loss of the Su-57 in Ukraine. This indicates that the Russian Federation is still not inclined to risk its air force in a war, intelligence concludes. 10:34 The military and shipbuilders of the Russian Federation are trying to shift responsibility for bringing to a critical state the only Russian aircraft carrier - the heavy aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, which is in disrepair. Currently, the ship is at the 35th shipyard in Murmansk, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. During the repair work, it turned out that the cruiser was not able to move on its own at all, and the critical condition of the ship's hull did not allow it to be moved even with the help of tugs. The command of the fleet put forward penalties for 1.5 billion rubles to the management of the plant for failure to meet the deadlines for repairs and failure to fulfill the contract. In turn, the management of the enterprise said that the plant was not to blame for bringing the ship to a deplorable state. According to Ukrainian military intelligence, today there is not even an approximate date for the completion of the repair of Admiral Kuznetsov and his return to service. 10:11 In the Severodonetsk region, the situation remains difficult, Roman Vlasenko, head of the military administration of the Severodonetsk region, said: "Active hostilities continue in the Kremennaya area. Svatov and Belogorovka have been more or less calm lately. Winter and frosts have a positive effect on the movement of active hostilities "Our guys are pressing in the area of Dibrova and Krasnopopovka. We are waiting for the continuation of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine." 09:55 In the morning, the Russians launched a missile attack on a local market in the Shevchenkovo village of the Kupyansky district of the Kharkiv region, Oleg Sinegubov, head of the OVA, said. The strike injured seven civilians, including a 13-year-old child. 09:37 In the Kherson region over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, three people were injured, the head of the OVA, Yaroslav Yanushevich, said. 09:13 In the Lugansk region, the Russians organized mass raids on retail facilities in order to identify the facts of hryvnia settlements with the population, the OVA reported. The occupants demand that price tags be set only in rubles, which led to the transition of the population to non-cash payments. The enemy seizes the terminals and threatens with penalties. But the circulation of the hryvnia does not stop, only supermarkets adhere to innovations. Markets and small shops continue to accept hryvnia, in particular, to a bank card. 09:08 In the Donetsk region over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, two civilians were killed - in Bakhmut and Soledar. Two more people were injured in the region, Pavel Kirilenko, head of the OVA, said. 09:03 Stoltenberg urged to continue supporting Ukraine: "It is impossible to say when and how the war in Ukraine will end. But we know that most wars end at the negotiating table. Most likely, this one too. What Ukrainians can achieve at the negotiating table depends on their strength on the battlefield. Therefore, if we want a peaceful negotiated solution in which Ukraine survives as an independent democratic country in Europe, the fastest way to achieve this is to support Ukraine. Weapons, in fact, are the way to peace." The NATO Secretary General added that the Ukrainian troops had inflicted heavy losses on Russia, but the Kremlin has again demonstrated its readiness to take great risks and incur heavy human losses: "They have already mobilized 200,000 additional troops. In addition, we know that they can get a lot of new material, and perhaps most importantly, there is no sign that Russia's ambitions have changed. It is dangerous to underestimate Russia." 08:44 The General Staff announced the approximate losses of the enemy as of the morning of January 9th.
08:23 Russia will leave Crimea as soon as the peninsula comes under the full fire control of Ukraine, Podolyak is convinced: "If we liberate the territory of the Luhansk, Donetsk or Zaporozhye regions, then Crimea will come under the total fire control of Ukraine. I do not quite understand what they will do Russians are there. They will understand that they have to run." According to him, Russia is already considering a plan to escape from the Crimea. Also, the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office said that the Ukrainian authorities should not leave an unresolved conflict with Russia to the next generations: “It is not necessary that our children, who are sitting in bomb shelters today, pay another price in 3-5 years. So that they then die for the right of the state That's why we signed such a "contract" today - either we reach the end today, and then our children live in a cool country, or we have to look for another place in life, because then there will be no Ukraine." 08:11 The enemy is conducting offensive operations in Bakhmutsky, Avdeevsky and Limansky and is trying to improve the tactical situation in the Kupyansky direction. In the Novopavlovsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson directions, the enemy is defending on previously occupied lines, carrying out engineering equipment for positions, the General Staff said in the morning summary . Over the past day, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled the attacks of the invaders in the areas of the settlements of Stelmahovka and Chervonopopovka in the Luhansk region and Soledar, Krasnaya Gora, Podgorodnoe, Bakhmut, Klescheevka, Vodiane, Pervomayskoye, Krasnogorovka, Maryinka, Pobeda and Novomikhailovka in the Donetsk region. According to the General Staff, a significant amount of weapons and military equipment arriving in Belarus from Russia for training personnel has been removed from long-term storage and requires maintenance. It is also known that Belarusian servicemen are involved in the work on this technique. There is a tendency towards a deterioration in the moral and psychological state of the enemy personnel. Thus, among the military of the 127th separate reconnaissance brigade stationed in Sevastopol, the opinion is spreading that the war will end on any terms. 05:22 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) notes that the statement of the Russian Defense Ministry about the "retaliation operation" in Kramatorsk, during which 600 Ukrainian soldiers were allegedly destroyed, caused another wave of discontent in the Russian information space. Journalists visited the site of the impact in Kramatorsk and stated that it hit an empty school. After that, a number of Russian military correspondents and bloggers criticized the Russian Defense Ministry, since the department often makes fake statements. | |

‘We've tried them all, except Meloni': Far-right leader tipped to become Italy's first female PM |
2022-09-15 |
Locals enjoying a late-afternoon stroll, couples lapping at fast-melting ice cream cones and tourists angling for the best shot of Milan’s imposing Gothic cathedral — just another Sunday in piazza Duomo, one might say, were it not for the flag-waving crowd gathered around a fiery orator with a thick Roman accent. The speaker, Giorgia Meloni, is the leader of Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia or FdI), a far-right outfit that has emerged from its south-central power base to become a dominant force all the way up to the Alps. At 45, she is the favourite to become Italy’s first female prime minister after the country’s general election on September 25. Pollsters predict Meloni’s party will emerge as Italy’s largest, taking a quarter of the vote — a more than fivefold increase from its score at the last general election in 2018. She is set to leapfrog her better-known right-wing allies Matteo Salvini and the seemingly eternal Silvio Berlusconi, easily surpassing their combined tallies. With Italy’s convoluted electoral law favouring broad coalitions, the three right-wing parties are on course to trounce the fractured centre-left, potentially handing a Meloni-led government a majority large enough to change Italy’s constitution. |

Is Giorgia Meloni an EU puppet? (There's nothing subversive about Italy's leading 'fascist') |
2022-08-30 |
![]() [Unherd] Italy’s first-ever summer election does not take place for another month, but the outcome already appears certain: the country’s centre-Right coalition — comprising Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy, Matteo Salvini’s Lega and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia — is leading the polls by a wide margin. Victory seems guaranteed. Brothers of Italy, in particular, continues its surge ahead of all the other parties, establishing Meloni as the de facto leader of the centre-Right coalition and as a likely candidate to become the first female prime minister in Italian history. Her party is now polling at around 25%, with Salvini’s Lega at 15% and Forza Italia at 7% — close to potentially giving the coalition more than 60% of the seats due to the current electoral system. On the opposite front, the centrist Democratic Party (PD), the party of the establishment, has severed all ties with Giuseppe Conte’s Five Star Movement, which they hold responsible for the fall of the Draghi government — an unforgivable sin in the eyes of the Italian elites. However, by foregoing an electoral alliance with Conte’s party, which until a few months ago seemed all but certain, the PD has effectively given up its only chance of coming anywhere close to a majority. On its own, the PD is currently polling at 23%, making it the second party in the country. But with its centre-Left coalition made up of small parties, they are unlikely to gain more than 30% of the votes. For its part, the Five Star Movement has experienced the most spectacular fall from grace of any party in modern European history: at the last elections, in 2018, on the back of a strongly anti-establishment rhetoric, it gained an astonishing 32.7% of the votes, 11 million in total, making it by far the most-voted party in parliament. Today it is polling at around 10%. This is the result of what many view as a betrayal of the party’s ideals. Failing to achieve much during its short-lived "populist" government alliance with the Lega, it subsequently underwent nothing less than a full-blown transformation, first allying itself with the pro-establishment PD and then offering its unwavering support for the technocratic government of Mario Draghi, the embodiment itself of post-democratic technocratic management. Needless to say, voters weren’t impressed — hence the party’s free-fall in the polls. Indeed, for the many millions of Italians who placed their hopes in Five Star, the lesson is a bleak one: voting is pointless. Unsurprisingly, most polls forecast the turnout at the upcoming elections to be the lowest ever — with potentially more than 40% of voters not bothering to head to the polls.... |

Head of Tunisia's Qalb Tounes Party Held in Algeria |
2021-08-31 |
![]() The privately owned Radio Mosaique FM said border police arrested the Qalb Tounes party chief and his brother Ghazi Karoui in the Tebessa region of northeast Algeria. Senior party official Oussama Khelifi told news hounds "official information" was still being awaited. The arrest of the brothers has not yet been confirmed by the authorities in either country. "We have not heard from Karoui for a week," Khelifi said. Riadh al-Nouioui, front man for Kasserine court in central Tunisia, told AFP that "the authorities are investigating two people suspected of helping the Karoui brothers escape" to Algeria. Nabil Karoui founded the private Tunisian channel Nessma TV, which is partly owned by Italia’s former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. Karoui has been under investigation since 2017 in a money laundering and tax evasion case. He was arrested in 2019 and spent more than a month in prison at the height of the presidential election campaign. He was freed but rearrested last December and spent six months in pre-trial detention before being let out again in June 2021. Karoui’s presidential campaign focused on the fight against poverty and his opposition to Islamist politics despite allying himself with the Islamist-inspired Ennahda party. He lost out to Saied, a retired law professor and political newcomer, as the electorate rejected the political class that had ruled since the 2011 revolution. On July 25, Saied dismissed parliament, sacked the prime minister and granted himself sweeping powers, invoking the constitution as justification. Since then, there has been a wave of travel bans and house arrests targeting parliamentarians, magistrates and businessmen in an anti-corruption purge. |

Italian Holocaust survivor assigned police protection due to online death threats |
2019-11-08 |
[IsraelTimes] An 89-year-old Auschwitz survivor who is a senator-for-life in Italia is assigned police protection in response to revelations that she is subject to 200 social media attacks each day. Italian state radio says Milan’s prefect, who reports to the interior minister, has assigned a Carabinieri paramilitary police security detail to Liliana Segre because of the threats against her. Segre unwittingly provoked one of the country’s most intense confrontations with anti-Semitism since the end of its Fascist dictatorship during World War II. She called for the creation of a parliamentary committee to combat hate, racism and anti-Semitism. Parliament approved her motion ‐ but without votes from Italia’s right-wing parties. Matteo Salvini’s euroskeptic League party, Silvio Berlusconi’s center-right Forza Italia and Giorgia Meloni’s far-right Brothers of Italia all abstained, in a move that defied the kind of social consensus that has marked Italian post-war politics. Israel’s ambassador to Italia tweets his dismay about the threats. "An 89-year-old survivor under escort symbolizes the danger that the Jewish communities in Europe ![]() are facing today," says Ambassador Dror Eydar. |

Italy's not the new Greece. It's the new Argentina. |

[Politico] MILAN ‐ The Italian government’s decision to bust the deficit limits it had agreed with the European Union is depressing. But it’s not surprising. It’s not just that Rome is now governed by a grand coalition of extremists: Interior Minister Matteo Salvini’s far-right League and Economic Development Minister Luigi Di Maio’s anti-establishment 5tar Movement. For years, Italian politicians have portrayed the country’s fiscal constraints as the result of foreign machinations ‐ unfair limitations imposed by Brussels or Berlin. Right-wingers have portrayed the financial storm that ousted then Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi in 2011 as a conspiracy. Italy’s rising cost of borrowing, they claim, was somehow weaponized to drive out one of the few politicians who stood up to Germany. More recently, former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi demanded, and obtained, "flexibility" over Brussels-mandated budget constraints, thereby undermining the legitimacy of fiscal rules. |
