Torrential rain floods Lahore, kills five across Punjab |
2025-07-11 |
[GEO.TV] Heavy rainfall that began at 5am on Thursday lashed Lahore for over six hours, submerging low-lying areas, paralysing traffic, and causing structural damage in several districts across Punjab![]() 2. A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers 3. A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots .... The rain stopped around 11:30am, but drainage work by WASA teams is still ongoing. Nishtar Town received the heaviest downpour, recording 182mm, while rainwater entered homes in Dharampura, Shah Jamal, Choburji, and surrounding localities. Vehicles and cycle of violences were stranded in deep water, especially in underpasses and along major roads. A house and mosque in Shah Jamal were also flooded. Wall and roof collapse incidents were reported in Lahore, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Pattoki, leaving five people dead, including a woman and two children, and injuring several others. In Sheikhupura, two children — 5-year-old Fatima and 2-year-old Arham — were killed when their home's roof collapsed. In Pattoki, a 55-year-old woman named Salma Bibi and a 12-year-old boy named Sujawal bit the dust in separate incidents. In Lahore, a boy was electrocuted while bathing in rainwater collected in a vacant plot near Lari Adda. Lahore's Katchi Abadis and underpasses were heavily affected, including areas around Kalma Chowk, Ferozepur Road, Haji Camp, Canal Road, and Harbanspura. Despite ongoing drainage efforts, many neighbourhoods remained waterlogged. The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) reported outages on 142 feeders, disrupting power supply in many areas. CEO LESCO urged citizens to avoid power poles and infrastructure during wet conditions and said restoration work would begin once rain stopped. |

Qassem denies divisions within Hezbollah, says group ''has recovered'' — Naharnet |

The interview was recorded on June 11 but only broadcast Tuesday on Lebanese pan-Arabist news channel al-Mayadeen. Qassem said that President Joseph Aoun is being "very pressured" by the U.S. and other Arab countries to disarm Hezbollah by all means, even by force. "But he knows this would lead to strife and would not be fruitful," Qassem told journalist and director of al-Mayadeen Ghassan Bin Jeddo. "Lebanon is strong because of Hezbollah's weapons and we will not accept that Lebanon becomes weak," Qassem said, adding that the medium and heavy arms that have been destroyed during the war with Israel are south of the Litani River, in a hint that Hezbollah has weapons in other regions across the country. Qassem denied internal divisions within Hezbollah. "Usually, when there are wings, you can see them, right? Because they fly... I haven't seen any wings yet," he sarcastically said. Turkish-trained Special Forces Troops Block Key Road in Somali Capital Over Unpaid Salaries |
2025-07-07 |
[Garowe] Heavily armed elite troops from the Somali police's Haramcad unit have blocked the Ex-Control Afgooye road in Mogadishu, sparking chaos and endangering civilians, eyewitnesses said on Sunday. The soldiers staged the protest to demand overdue salaries, accusing the federal government of failing to pay them. The demonstration escalated when troops opened fire indiscriminately, putting nearby residents and commuters at risk. The closure of the Ex-Control Afgooye road, a vital artery used daily by thousands in the capital, brought traffic to a standstill. Vehicles, including cars and tuk-tuks, were stranded for hours, causing widespread disruption and confusion. Local witnesses said the protest triggered panic as the soldiers fired in multiple directions. "We were trapped, unable to move as bullets flew near us," one commuter said. The Haramcad unit, trained and supported by Ottoman Turkish forces, has expressed frustration with the outgoing administration of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud over unpaid wages. Sources say the soldiers’ salaries have long been insufficient to meet their basic needs, fueling discontent. Government officials have yet to comment on the incident, which highlights the growing tensions within Somalia’s security forces amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the country. The unrest underscores challenges facing the federal government as it struggles to maintain order and cohesion among its military units. |

Five Hebron sheikhs pen letter asking to join Abraham Accords as emirate, dismiss two-state solution — report |
2025-07-06 |
[IsraelTimes] A group of five leading sheikhs in the Paleostinian Authority’s Hebron district sent a letter to the government expressing a desire to join the Abraham Accords and to have peace with Israel, the Wall Street Journal reports. The letter, addressed to Economy Minister Nir Barkat, expresses the sheikhs’ desire to break off from the Paleostinian Authority and establish Hebron as an emirate that "recognize[s] the State of Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people." Then, "the State of Israel shall recognize the Emirate of Hebron as the Representative of the Arab residents in the Hebron District." Oh my goodness — the unexpected things that happen in real life! The letter describes the proposed arrangement as "fair and decent," and says it can replace the Oslo Accords, "which only brought damage, death, economic disaster and destruction."Barkat tells the WSJ that the old two-state paradigm has failed, and that the Paleostinian Authority is not trusted among its people and in Israel. The minister has hosted Sheikh Wadee’ al-Jaabari — one of the most influential Hebron clan leaders and the spearhead of the initiative — and other sheikhs at his home in Jerusalem for dozens of meetings since February. "Sheikh Jaabari wants peace with Israel and to join the Abraham Accords, with the support of his fellow sheikhs. Who in Israel is going to say no?" Barkat says. "There will be no Paleostinian state — not even in 1,000 years," Jaabari tells the newspaper. "After October 7, Israel will not give it." Another sheikh who joined the initiative concurred: "To think only about making a Paleostinian state will bring us all to disaster." The WSJ says other sheikhs who agree with the initiative spoke anonymously to ensure their safety. Hezbollah Leader: Israel poses strategic threat to region and beyond
2025-07-04 | ||
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Sheikh Naim Qassem![]() ... the Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies... , the leader of Hezbollah, declared Israel not only an occupier of Paleostine but a strategic threat to Leb ![]() , Egypt, Syria, Jordan, the broader region, and global stability.
He noted that the regime's ideology, behavior, and vision endanger both regional stability and global peace. Qassem said that since the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel took effect, the regime has not stopped its aggression and has violated the agreement more than 3700 times. He stressed that the regime must adhere to the terms it agreed upon with Lebanon and stop its acts of aggression. The Hezbollah leader said the movement will not be swayed by threats, nor will it accept surrendering its weapons to Israel. Qassem firmly rejected calls for Hezbollah to disarm, asserting that Lebanon's defense and illusory sovereignty are internal matters, immune to external pressures. ''We will not submit to humiliation, abandon our land, or compromise under threats,'' he stated, stressing that discussions about Hezbollah's weapons are a domestic issue, with no role for Israel in dictating terms. Qassem said Hezbollah's resistance is a defense against a strategic threat impacting multiple nations, including Paleostine, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, and Jordan. Describing Israel as an existential danger, Qassem noted, ''Israel's threat is not limited to Moslems; it endangers Christians and Jews as well.'' He criticized the regime's ideology and actions as a risk to global peace and called on those who avoid confronting Israel to resist on humanitarian grounds. ''Coexisting with an expanding, invasive danger is impossible,'' he warned, emphasizing Hezbollah's resistance as rooted in human, Islamic, and national values for future generations. LEBANESE STATE MUST ADDRESS ONGOING VIOLATIONS In late June, Qassem stated that Israel's continued aggression, including attacks on Nabatieh, the targeting of civilians in southern Lebanon, and strikes on the money exchange sector, is now the Lebanese state's responsibility to address. ''The state must apply pressure and fulfill its duties,'' he urged, rejecting claims that Hezbollah provides pretexts for Israeli attacks. He cited Israel's occupation of 600 km of Syrian territory, destruction of capabilities, and attacks on Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneouslytaking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militiasto extend the regime's influence. The word Iranis a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGCis the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA).The term Supreme Guideis a the modern version form of either Duceor Führeror maybe both. They hate as evidence of unprovoked aggression. ''You must understand this cannot continue,'' Qassem told the public. ''Do you imagine we will remain silent forever? All of this has limits.''
Saudi news channel Al-Hadath reports, citing unnamed sources, that approximately 4,000 Hezbollah operatives, including fighters, commanders, and senior figures, were killed during the Lebanon-based terror group’s war with Israel, which ended in a ceasefire in November 2024. On top of that, the report says around 2,000 others deserted following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in September last year. Despite these losses, the report claims Hezbollah still maintains a force of approximately 60,000 members. The outlet also reports that 80% of the territory south of Lebanon’s Litani River — once under Hezbollah’s exclusive control — is now controlled by the Lebanese Armed Forces. The terms of the ceasefire require that Hezbollah maintain no control in that area. It says Hezbollah has also shut down most of its training centers in the Beqaa Valley and southern Lebanon, and much of its medium and heavy-grade weaponry has either been destroyed by Israeli strikes or seized by the Lebanese army.

SDF says ‘disinformation campaign’ seeks to undermine the force |
2025-06-29 |
[Rudaw] Kurdish-led forces in northeast Syria (Rojava) said on Saturday that there is a targeted "disinformation campaign" to undermine the force by falsely linking them to the terror attack on a Christian church in Damascus. "A renewed targeted online disinformation campaign falsely claims that an ISIS [Islamic State ![]() Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... ] member who contributed to the terrorist attack on the Mar Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Damascus had previously received kerosene aid from an American NGO while residing in al-Hawl camp. This narrative is part of a broader effort to attack the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), continuing a pattern of falsifying documents to undermine their legitimacy," the SDF said in a statement on Saturday. On Sunday, a jacket wallah affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) entered Mar Elias Church in Damascus during mass, opened fire on worshippers and detonated an explosive vest, killing 25 people and injuring 63 others. The attack renewed fears of sectarian violence in Syria as it tries to recover from decades of dictatorship and years of civil war. Syrian authorities arrested six suspects and killed two others during a raid on an ISIS cell. Interior Ministry spokesperson Noureddine al-Baba said that two of the suspects were not Syrian nationals and had infiltrated the capital from al-Hol camp that houses thousands of ISIS family members in the SDF-held northeast. The SDF denied the connection, saying that it reviewed camp files and no one fitting the ministry’s description had been released during the timeframe specified. The SDF, which is keeping several thousand ISIS fighters in prisons, further explained that the camp mostly comprises women and kiddies rather than imported muscle of ISIS. The director of the Middle East Institute’s Syria Program, Charles Lister, then shared on X a document that claimed to show one of the suspects received aid in al-Hol delivered by the humanitarian organization Blumont. Blumont on Friday said the document is not legitimate. "We are aware of images circulating online reportedly from our team’s work in Syria. The images are not authentic and do not reflect how we track the distribution of humanitarian assistance," it said. Lister has since deleted the post and on Friday he confirmed that the document was fake but said a senior Syrian government official had confirmed that two of the six members of the ISIS cell were "smuggled out from al-Hol in late-2024." Smuggling people out of al-Hol is a problem at the sprawling camp. The SDF has reported arresting suspected smugglers. In March they captured a man accused of "smuggling terrorists, particularly foreign ISIS women, out of al-Hol camp. The accusations against the SDF come at a sensitive time as the Kurdish administration in Rojava is in talks with the interim government about their integration into national institutions. Kurds are looking for guarantees of their political and cultural rights that had been denied under the former regime. SDF chief Mazloum Abdi and Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa signed a landmark agreement in March over the future of SDF and the Kurdish enclave. Several articles of the agreement have been implemented, including swapping of prisoners, and there are ongoing talks between both sides. Sheikhmous Ahmed, who supervises Rojava’s camps, told Rudaw English on Friday that the recent deadly festivities between Damascus-affiliated gangs and religious minorities like the Druze and Alawites created the belief that only the SDF can protect the minorities. He claimed that Damascus is using the attack on the church as a pretext to spread disinformation about the SDF as part of "a smear campaign." Rojava has been internationally praised for its coexistence and women rights. Violence broke out in early March in the Alawite-majority coastal areas of western Syria after loyalists of ousted Syrian dictator Bashir Pencilneckal-Assad Supressor of the Damascenes... launched attacks on security forces affiliated with the new Syrian leadership. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) then reported that around 1,500 people, mostly Alawite civilians, have been killed in the violence. The UK-based war monitor added that most casualties were caused by government or government-affiliated forces. In April, global human rights ...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions... watchdog Amnesty International censured the "mass killings," accusing Damascus of perpetrating a "war crime" against the minority group and warning of further "atrocities" if accountability is not enforced. Many members of the Druze community were killed in late April following attacks by groups linked to Damascus. The fighting was initially triggered by an audio recording that was allegedly blasphemous toward the Prophet Muhammad. Initially attributed to a prominent Druze holy man, the recording was later discredited by both the holy man and Syrian authorities. IDF hits Hezbollah targets, blames terror group rocket fire for death of woman in area |
2025-06-28 |
More on this story from yesterday. [IsraelTimes] Israel says Hezbollah trying to restore operations at site near Beaufort Castle in south LebanonIsraeli Air Force fighter jets hit a Hezbollah facility in the Beaufort Castle area in south Leb ![]() on Friday, the military said. Lebanese media reported strikes in the area killed one woman, but the military said the death was caused by an errant Hezbollah rocket. According to the IDF, the facility, used by the terror group to "manage its fire and defense array," was part of an underground Hezbollah site that was previously targeted in Israeli strikes. "In recent days, the IDF identified attempts by the Hezbollah terror organization to restore the site, and therefore the terror infrastructure in the area was struck," the military said. The IDF said that the "presence of this site and the attempts to reestablish it constitute a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon." However, a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all... the IDF later denied carrying out a strike on Nabatieh earlier today, instead blaming a Hezbollah rocket that was launched amid the strikes on the nearby facility. "The IDF did not target any civilian building," said the military’s Arabic-language front man Col. Avichay Adraee. "According to the information we have, the building was hit by a rocket projectile that was stored at the site, and was launched and went kaboom!as a result of the ... KABOOM!... ," he said. "The Hezbollah terror organization continues to store its rocket projectiles near residential buildings and the residents of Lebanon, thereby endangering them. Hezbollah continues to endanger the residents of southern Lebanon in light of its refusal to hand over its weapons to the Lebanese state," Adraee said. He added that "The Lebanese government bears responsibility for what is happening on its territory, in light of its failure to confiscate Hezbollah’s heavy weapons and rocket projectiles." Additionally, a home in the southern Lebanon town of Houla, allegedly used by Hezbollah to observe Israeli forces, was demolished by IDF troops overnight Wednesday-Thursday, the military said. According to the IDF, the home belonged to Ahmad Ghazi Ali, a Hezbollah operative killed in a dronezap in Houla a week ago. "The structure was used by the Hezbollah terror organization for military activity, including attempts to gather intelligence on IDF troops," the military said, adding that "the terrorists’ activity in the structure constituted a clear violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon." The military said the demolition was carried out by the 769th "Hiram" Regional Brigade in a special operation. Israel has continued to carry out targeted strikes on Hezbollah operatives and infrastructure since it signed a ceasefire with Lebanon in late November, alleging violations of the truce agreement. According to the IDF, over 180 Hezbollah operatives have been killed in that time. Under the terms of the ceasefire, Hezbollah was required to withdraw its fighters north of the Litani River and dismantle all military infrastructure in southern Lebanon. Israel was to withdraw from Lebanon, while maintaining the right to strike threats to its security. The IDF maintained a presence at five points near the border it said were necessary to ensure the safety of Israeli communities. Since the ceasefire, the Lebanese state has been working methodically to dismantle Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the south of the country, and is estimated to have seized the majority of the terror group’s weapons stockpile in the same area. Extrapolating from a Ynet report courtesy of Grom yesterday in comments, the civilian building in the Nabatieh area that went up as a result of a Hezbollah rocket launch was a cache that cooked off with noticeable secondaries. A woman was killed and 20 other people were wounded Friday after Israel said it targeted Hezbollah "underground assets" in south Lebanon, despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. An Nahar gives the Lebanese view of events: The Israeli army said it targeted Hezbollah "underground assets" in south Lebanon as it carried out a series of violent airstrikes on Nabatieh al-Fawqa and the heights of Iqlim al-Tuffah in south Lebanon. The airstrikes came in two waves on the mountains overlooking Nabatieh and bunker buster bombs were used, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported. The strikes continued during the day as warplanes struck a region between the southern towns of Ansar and Zrariyeh. A woman was killed and twenty other people were wounded as a residential building in Nabatieh al-Fawqa was hit with a missile that knocked out the building's top floor. Israel later said it didn't bomb any building in Nabatieh and that the projectile that hit the building flew from a nearby Hezbollah depot after an Israeli strike. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam strongly condemned the strikes, calling them a "blatant violation of national sovereignty" and a "threat to stability". The strikes come a day after Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naim Qassem said Lebanon cannot submit to dictations nor surrender to occupation. "This is our country, we want it dignified and we will resist for that," Qassem said Thursday. Israel has kept up regular strikes on Lebanon, particularly in the south, since a November 27 ceasefire meant to end over a year of hostilities that left Hezbollah severely weakened. Friday’s strikes were more intense than usual. The Israeli military said in a statement that its fighter jets struck a site used by Hezbollah to manage its fire and defense array in the area and is part of a significant underground project that was completely taken out of use. The Israeli army said it identified rehabilitation attempts by Hezbollah beforehand and struck infrastructure sites in the area. IDF releases footage that it says shows Hezbollah rocket caused deadly south Lebanon blast [IsraelTimes] The IDF releases footage it says confirms that a Hezbollah rocket flew out of a facility belonging to the terror group, after it was targeted earlier today, and hit a home in southern Lebanon. Following the Israeli strike on the Hezbollah site near Beaufort Castle, Lebanon’s health ministry reported one dead and 11 wounded in a blast that struck an apartment in Nabatieh. “A review revealed that as a result of the strike, secondary explosions were identified, as well as the launch of a Hezbollah terror organization rocket that was stored at the site, which struck a civilian building,” the military says.

Shadowy jihadist group claims Damascus church attack, as government blames ISIS |
2025-06-25 |
[IsraelTimes] Saraya Ansar al-Sunna — possibly an offshoot of Syrian president’s old rebel group HTS — says it ‘blew up the Saint Elias church,’ killing 25, over unspecified ‘provocation’ A little-known Sunni Moslem bad boy group grabbed credit on Tuesday for a weekend suicide kaboom against a church in Damascus, while the Syrian government insisted they were part of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... group. Sunday’s attack killed 25 people and maimed dozens, striking terror into Syria’s Christian community and other minorities. A statement from Saraya Ansar al-Sunna said an operative "blew up the Saint Elias church in the Dwelaa neighborhood of Damascus," adding that it came after an unspecified "provocation." Syria’s Islamist authorities, who took power after ousting longtime ruler Bashir Pencilneckal-Assad One of the last of the old-fashioned hereditary iron-fisted fascist dictators... in December, had quickly blamed the attack on the Islamic State group and announced several arrests on Monday in a security operation against ISIS-affiliated cells. ISIS did not claim responsibility for the attack. The Saraya Ansar al-Sunna statement, on the messaging app Telegram, said the government’s version of events was "untrue, fabricated." The front man for the interior ministry, Nureddine al-Baba, said during a presser on Tuesday that the cell behind the attack "officially follows ISIS," adding that Saraya Ansar al-Sunna was "not independent... as it follows ISIS," using the Arabic acronym for ISIS. Baba also said that the church attacker was not Syrian, without specifying his nationality, and came to Damascus with another jacket wallah from the al-Hol camp in the northeast for displaced people and relatives of ISIS members. Aymenn Jawad al-Tamimi, a Syria-based analyst and researcher, said Saraya Ansar al-Sunna could be "a pro-[ISIS] splinter originating primarily from defectors from HTS... and other factions but currently operating independently of [ISIS]." Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ![]() (HTS) is the Islamist group headed by Syria’s now-President Ahmed al-Sharaa that led the overthrow of Assad. Baba said it could be just a "front group" for ISIS. Citing a source within the group, Tamimi said a disillusioned former HTS functionary headed Saraya. He added that its leadership included a former member of Hurras al-Din, an al-Qaeda affiliate that announced in January it was dissolving on the orders of the new government. ’FIRST MASSACRE OF ITS KIND IN SYRIA SINCE 1860’ At the funeral of some of those killed in Damascus’s Holy Cross Church, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East John X called the attack an "unacceptable incident." Addressing Sharaa, the patriarch said, "The heinous crime that took place at Mar Elias Church is the first massacre of its kind in Syria since 1860," referring to the mass killings of Christians in Damascus under the Ottoman Empire. "We refuse for these events to take place during the revolution and during your honorable era." Sharaa had called the patriarchate’s adviser to send his condolences, an act John X called "insufficient." To ululations and tears, nine white coffins were carried into the church, amid a heavy security presence in the area. "These events are fleeting and have no value in history," teacher Raji Rizkallah, 50, told AFP. "Christianity is a deeply rooted and permanent part of this land, and holy warriors are heretics." Assad’s government portrayed itself as a protector of minorities, who were subject to numerous attacks claimed by jihadist groups during the 14-year civil war. The new authorities have repeatedly pledged to protect minorities, despite the eruption of sectarian violence on multiple occasions in recent months. The suicide kaboom followed massacres of members of the Alawite sect to which Assad belongs and festivities with Druze fighters. The bloodshed has raised concerns about the government’s ability to control radical fighters who took part in Assad’s overthrow. HTS was once affiliated with al-Qaeda before breaking ties in 2016. Bangladesh probe commission on Hasina-era abuses warns 'impunity'' remains |
2025-06-24 |
[GEO.TV] A Bangladesh government-appointed commission investigating hundreds of disappearances by the security forces under ousted premier ...Bangla dynastic politician and now exiled former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She was President of the Bangla Awami League since the Lower Paleolithic. She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia showed such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums. That is probably because Khaleda's late husband was the Pak tool who had Mujib assassinated... on Monday warned that the same "culture of impunity" continues. The Commission of Inquiry into Enforced Disappearances is probing abuses during the rule of Hasina, whose government was accused of widespread human rights When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much... abuses. That includes the extrajudicial killing of hundreds of political opponents and the unlawful abduction and disappearance of hundreds more. The commission was established by interim leader, Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, 84, who is facing intense political pressure as parties jostle for power ahead of elections expected early next year. Bangladesh has a long history of military coups and the army retains a powerful role. "Enforced disappearances in Bangladesh were not isolated acts of wrongdoing, but the result of a politicised institutional machinery that condoned, normalised, and often rewarded such crimes," the commission said, in a section of a report released by the interim government on Monday. "Alarmingly, this culture of impunity continues even after the regime change on August 5, 2024".
