Temporary setback: Amy Coney Barrett ensures religious school fight fails in Supreme Court
2025-05-24 | |
[NBC via MSN] A recusal by conservative Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett has ensured that Oklahoma taxpayers will not have to pay for a religious public charter school.
"The decision by the evenly divided court means that a ruling by the Oklahoma Supreme Court that said the proposal to launch St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School violates both the federal Constitution and state law remains in place," NBC News reported. Coney Barrett is an extremely conservative and religious justice who analysts expected would have supported the school's case. The lack of a majority vote means the court did not issue a written decision. Trump weighs in on British Commonwealth offer
2025-03-23 | |
Don't wanna be on the same ticket as Pakistain. We'd hafta learn to play cricket and wear monocles and crap like that. Ptui. [Daily Mail, where America gets its news] President Donald Trump on ![]()
King Charles III is the head of the commonwealth. Trump and the King have kept a close relationship even after Trump left the White House. The two exchanged letters often. The Commonwealth proposal was originally floated in Trump's first term, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth, who Trump adored. Now the British are reviving the plan to extend the invitation with the hope the King will personally make the case to Trump when the president and first lady make their state visit to the UK later this year. 'This is being discussed at the highest levels,' a member of the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) told DailyMail.com: 'It would be a wonderful move that would symbolize Britain's close relationship with the US. 'Donald Trump loves Britain and has great respect for the Royal Family, so we believe he would see the benefits of this. Associate membership could, hopefully, be followed by full membership, making the Commonwealth even more important as a global organization.' The source added: 'The Commonwealth is also a great forum for resolving differences between nations, and the King has shown that he is a natural peacemaker.' Trump is a longtime fan of the British royal family. Prime Minister Keir Starmer used that to his advantage when he visited the White House earlier this month. Starmer personally delivered the letter from the King at a meeting with Trump in the Oval Office. In it, the King personally invited Trump to make a state visit to the UK later this year, a rare second invite for an American president. Trump made a state visit in his first term when Queen Elizabeth II was on the throne. Trump waved the letter around in front of the cameras and grandly accepted the invitation. He described the King as a 'beautiful man.' The invitation to join the Commonwealth could also cool the tension around Canada. Trump has repeatedly said he wants to make Canada the 51st state. The country is part of the Commonwealth. The talk of turning has created enormous tensions and put the King in an awkward position. Canada is one of the 15 countries of which he is head of state. He met new Canadian prime minister Mark Carney in London this week, in what many interpreted as a show of support. Canada is looking to the King as their head of state, and head of the Commonwealth, to speak up for them and ward off Trump. The king also hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Sandringham after Trump and Zelensky had their falling out during a disastrous meeting in the Oval Office. Trump was said to be annoyed at the king's move. The royals have courted Trump as part of their role in keeping a strong relationship between the U.S. and UK. Prince William met with him in Paris shortly after Trump won the 2024 election when the two were in France for the reopening of the Notre Dame cathedral. 'I was very impressed by William. I think William is terrific,' Trump said after their meeting.

Dreaming of My Fidel Castro's Birthday in Chicago
2025-03-07 | |
[JOHNKASSNEWS - article by Pat Hickey] Yep, I seem to recall the bearded presence of the future dictator of Red Cuba, when my uncle Bart brought him home to meet the family on November 8, 1959. I had just turned seven at 10 AM and my Dad was at one of his three jobs ( Illinois Medicals Psychiatric Center, The Beverly Theatre, or Home for the Blind) – Ike was about to part the White House, the White Sox won the American League Pennant, but the LA Dodgers took the Series, I was in second grade, JFK was a Catholic running for President and Castro visited the US.in 1959. Castro went to zoos and ranches in NYC, DC, Texas and Canada and generally hung around with Chicago Tribune's Latin Affairs Correspondent Jules Dubois. Dubois had been a Panama suit and hat reporter in Panama and later became an Army spook during WWII. After the war, Dubois worked to overthrow governments in Central America and also hated Cuban dictator and Mafia puppet Batista. Bart S. Hickey was a magnificent man. My Uncle Bart was the tallest of my dad's six brothers and as Mary Garvey once said, ‘That Bart is strictly MGM.' Bart had been a Buck Sergeant in the Marines during the Korean War and afterward worked as a Stationary Engineer. I am given to understand that during one of his not too infrequent visits to Mr. Kelly's that Uncle Bart pal-ed up with Col. Jules Dubois. The Colonel and Bart hit it off and met up for beers periodically. A few weeks after the Sox lost the World Series, the two ran into one another and met for steaks at Stockyard Inn. Dubois told Bart about the guy who had kicked Batista and The Outfit out of Cuba in January and had charmed the britches off of the Manhattan swells and the likes of Lenny Bernstein. Castro had visited the States on his own, in full beard and Army fatigues many times. He was quietly encamped at The Blackstone Hotel. Uncle Bart cried Bullshit. The Colonel protested, "On the Square, Batty. Want to meet him?" It was arranged. On November 8th, 1959, Fidel Castro wiped his feet on the mud mat in the hall of the Hickey Manse on Marshfield, right here in Chicago. My Granny, Nora Hickey, was ministering to the "shower of bastards." This was two scores of cousins all of baby boom. Granny welcomed her son and his friends and presented the trio with tea and Lorna Doone cookies, in the living room. The place was generally off-limits to kids who were trooped in the dining room, kitchen or the back basement. All of my cousins were there but Eddie who was a freshman football player at Notre Dame and it was my birthday; besides, which meant cake. The cake was from the bakery on 79th & Laflin, and it was okay but for the coconut flakes, which I have hated with a generous passion – Lo these many years. Cutting off perfectly good frosting because of coconut flakes is just wrong. Most of the cousins did not seem to mind and swallowed the stuff without so much as a blink. In walked Uncle Bart and two guys – one a geezer and the other dressed in Army clothes and beards. In the left hand of future dictator and sworn enemy of America was brown paper bag full of beards and paper Army hats, purchased by Uncle Bart at Riley's Trick Shop at 79th and Carpenter. Marine Sgt. Hickey intoned, "Split-tails and goofs, quiet down. This is Col. Jules Dubois and he's a pal and this is his pal, Fidel. Fellas, this is my brother Pat's boy –Patsheen -he's what? Sixteen?" "Seven, Uncle Bart," I corrected. "Did I ask you, wise guy? Close your hole and give your ears a chance until you're talked to . . . it's his Birthday, Chief. What did you bring for the kid?" Into the excitement and up from the basement came FATHER – Grandpa Hickey, formerly of Crinnie Hill, Castleisland County Kerry, a founder of Engineers Local 399, father of seven boys and six girls and a pioneering rage-aholic and unfiltered vocalist. " Bateen, who's your pals, so? I heard ye come in the front door when the back way is good enough for Monsignor McMahon and most Christians. Hello, I'm Lawrence Hickey, Bart's father, like the shtory." Like what story? A Kerry man pronounces Bart as Bayart, said fast and says ‘Like the Shhtory' for no good reason. BTW – Bat is short for Bart, which is short for Bartholomew, and it's diminutive in Irish would be Bat-een, like I am Padsheen, or Patsheen. The Hickey clan from Crinnie also known as the Batty-Lars, due to the fact that our tribe always names two male off-spring Larry, or Bart. Grandpa took in a full eyeful of Fidel Castro. "Fwhat are you doing here in my living room dressed up like Tom Barry's Flying Column?" quizzed the original Crinnie Rage-aholic. Uncle Bart answered, " He's Castro, Father (with undiminished irony) – the guy on Time Magazine from Cuba." "That's near Florida, so?" It was agreed. Hands were shook all around and Fidel Castro was seated at the dining room table next to our Chicago Pater Familias – " How's things with that crook Batista off in the jungles somewhere?" Col. Jules Dubois translated for the English challenged revolutionist – Castro lit up like one of his virgin-thigh rolled cheroots – " Ah Bueno, Senor Hickey! Muy bien! Las personas que saquearon mi pueblo para este año madres Mañana no será bienvenido en Cuba. Al igual que los Medias Blancas y la Sra. Rigné, Ha, ha, ha! " " So, that's the way of it." A County Kerry declarative/interrogative sentence answer. On it went, I suppose, in this manner, until the large brown paper bag was opened with my birthday present from the liberator and future dictator of Cuba. We all got beards and imitation Army caps made like those paper painter's caps. Some haul, huh? Uncle Bart decided to put El Jefe on the spot, "That's all you got for the Kid? It's his birthday for Crissakes. Dig, Fidel, and come up with some folding money for the little guy." This was dutifully translated by Col. Dubois. Castro feigned a smile of resignation and oiled these words in his native tongue through his gums and whiskers, "What is this? A Capitalist trap? You Yankees! Very Well, here is five Gringo dollars for your homely nephew with the gapped teeth. I am out of here! Say good-bye to your foul tempered Irish father. Basta Ya! Yanquis!" Within a few months, Time Magazine's Boy, Castro, was locked in an embrace with Soviet Communism that still breathes lustily today. Alas, Fidel shed his mortal husk. I got to tickle the real whiskers of Castro and pocket a 1959 value 5-$pot from a Commie and never really caught the desire to cut sugar cane. Hey, it could have happened. Ask Uncle Bart and Jules Dubois. Oh, yeah. They're passed. So is Castro from what I hear.

The terrorist attack was supposed to be larger-scale and accompanied by bomb explosions. The terrorist attack in New Orleans was carried out by a US Army veteran, who allegedly (according to Biden and the FBI) was inspired by ISIS.
A Tesla car parked near Trump Tower was blown up. The deceased was also associated with US security agencies.

Day 2: Bourbon Street attacker inspired by ISIS killed 15
2025-01-02 | |
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The suspect in the New Orleans truck attack on a crowd of people is a man named Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, The New York Times reported on Wednesday, January 1, citing an informed source. Earlier it was reported that 10 people were killed and 30 were injured as a result of the emergency. "The deceased suspect in the New Orleans attack has been identified as Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar," the statement said. The investigation into the case, initiated under the article on the terrorist act, is being conducted by investigators from the FBI and the US Attorney's Office. As reported by the Regnum news agency , American media outlets reported earlier that on the night of January 1, a truck drove into a crowd in New Orleans. The incident occurred at about 3:20 local time on Bourbon Street. The victims were taken to five local hospitals. According to preliminary data, there are no Russian citizens among the victims, said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. CBS News reported that after the car plowed into the crowd, the driver got out of the truck and started shooting, after which police returned fire. Local police chief Ann Kirkpatrick said two police officers were shot during the shootout. The attacker was killed, the FBI said. US President-elect Donald Trump has linked a truck driving into a crowd in New Orleans to illegal immigration. Fox News reported that the truck entered the US from Mexico. [X]
… FBI Houston says they are clearing all people in the area. Sources on the ground tell me they are moving “slow and methodically.” I spoke to the owner of the Ford pickup truck over the phone. He confirmed he used the Turo app to rent his truck, an app that does not require meeting face to face.
… This evidence, combined with the ISIS flag found on the truck used in the attack, strengthens links to extremist ideology. Source: CNN 🚨🇺🇸NEW ORLEANS ATTACKER’S ERRATIC BEHAVIOR AFTER CONVERTING TO ISLAM LEFT FAMILY REELING Shamsud-Din Jabbar, honorably discharged from the Army, began acting erratically after converting to Islam, according to Dwayne Marsh, husband of Jabbar’s ex-wife. Jabbar and Nakedra Charrlle share 2 daughters, aged 15 and 20, who are “a mess” following the attack, Marsh said. Marsh described Jabbar’s recent behavior as “being all crazy, cutting his hair,” leading the family to limit his contact with his daughters. Source: NYT At least three improvised pipe bombs were found nearby in the city’s famed French Quarter, including one in Jabbar’s truck. Two were homemade with nails hidden in blue coolers, sources told The Post. BROTHER OF NEW ORLEANS TERRORIST SHAMSUD-DIN JABBAR BLAMES 'RADICALIZATION, NOT RELIGION' FOR ATTACK THAT LEFT 15 DEAD The brother of the terrorist who launched the deadly car attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans says that "radicalization" is to blame for his kin's rampage. Abdur Jabbar, 24, of Beaumont, Texas, told The New York Times that his brother Shasmud-Din Jabbar -- who killed at least 15 people in the New Year's Day attack -- converted to Islam at an early age. The younger Jabbar told the newspaper that what his brother "did does not represent Islam. This is more some type of radicalization, not religion." Abdur described his brother, who was killed by police after mowing down innocent revelers, "a sweetheart really, a nice guy, a friend, really smart, caring," according to the Times. In videos posted to his Facebook page prior to the attack, Shasmud-Din Jabbar "pledged allegiance to ISIS," the outlet reported, citing law enforcement officials. The deceased suspect was driving while recording those videos, according to those sources. BOMB MATERIALS DISCOVERED IN NEW ORLEANS AIRBNB LINKED TO BOURBON STREET ATTACK: REPORT Law enforcement officials recovered bomb materials at a New Orleans Airbnb believed to be connected to the terrorist who carried out the New Year's Day attack in the city that killed 15 and injured 30. A small fire had broken out at the property in question around 5:30 a.m. on Mandeville Street in the Marigny neighborhood just a little over a mile away from Bourbon Street. Sources told WVUE that they found bomb-making materials at the residence after extinguishing the blaze and deploying bomb-sniffing dogs. Sources previously told The Post that earlier Wednesday bomb squads had been dispatched to an Airbnb that terror suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar is thought to have stayed at following a fire at the rental. SHIRTLESS MAN SURRENDERS OUTSIDE HOUSTON HOME OF TERRORIST WHO MOWED DOWN REVELERS IN NEW ORLEANS: REPORT A shirtless man was seen surrendering to authorities outside the Houston home of the terrorist who mowed down 15 New Year's Eve revelers and injured dozens more in New Orleans Wednesday. The man had his arms raised above his head in photos obtained by KPRC 2 Houston Wednesday afternoon. The images also showed military officials in an armored vehicle pointing guns at him as he was taken into custody. It is unclear if the man was connected to the deadly New Orleans attack. FEDS PROBING 'POSSIBLE CONNECTION' BETWEEN TESLA CYBERTRUCK BLAST AND BOURBON STREET ATTACK, BIDEN SAYS President Biden confirmed that law enforcement is looking into any potential ties between the Cybertruck detonation at Trump Las Vegas hotel earlier in the day Wednesday that injured at least seven and the Bourbon Street truck ramming attack that killed at least 15. "We're tracking the explosion of the cyber truck outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. Law enforcement and intelligence community are investigating this as well, including whether there's any possible connection to the attack in New Orleans," Biden said from Camp David. Thus far the only known nexus between the two incidents is the fact that both cars had been rented via Turo, law enforcement sources previously told The Post. ABOUT THE MISCREANT AND HIS VIDEOS New Orleans terrorist Shamsud-Din Jabbar made a series of videos as before his deadly truck ramming onslaught in which he confessed to planning to murder his family and claimed he joined ISIS, CNN reported. The videos, which have been obtained by law enforcement, are believed to have been filmed as Jabbar drove from Texas to Louisiana before his deadly car ramming attack Wednesday -- though their exact time of filming isn't clear. Jabbar allegedly discussed his divorce in the videos and said he had plotted to invite his entire family to a "celebration" as a pretext to killing them all. Jabbar has two daughters aged 15 and 20 with an ex-wife, Nakedra Charrlle, the New York Times reported. Jabbar, 42, had been divorced twice, which had put him in financial trouble. During his second divorce, the Army veteran said he racked up more than $16,000 in credit card debt on lawyers' fees after his real estate business suffered a $28,000 loss the previous year. The videos also reportedly show Jabbar stating he joined ISIS and discussing various dreams about how he should join the terrorist group. FBI RULES OUT 3 MEN, WOMAN SEEN ON VIDEO STASHED EXPLOSIVES AROUND FRENCH QUARTER The FBI has ruled out three men and a woman who authorities initially thought were planting multiple explosive devices in New Orleans as a terrorist mowed down revelers celebrating the New Year. JABBAR SERVED IN THE ARMY, DEPLOYED TO AFGHANISTAN BEFORE ISIS-INSPIRED ATTACK New Orleans terror perpetrator Shamsud-Din Jabbar served in the Army for more than a decade before he carried out his apparently ISIS-inspired attack on Wednesday, according to his service record. Working as an IT specialist, he deployed to Afghanistan from February 2009 until January 2010, the service branch said in a summary of military experience. Jabbar served on active duty from March 2007 until January 2015 and was a reservist from January 2015 until July 2020. He left the service at the rank of staff sergeant, according to the Army. DEATH TOLL RISES TO 15, MAKING TERROR ATTACK ONE OF THE DEADLIEST SINCE 9/11 The terror attack in New Orleans is now one of the deadliest on US soil since 9/11 after the fatalities rose to 15 on Wednesday afternoon, according to multiple reports. Five additional victims have died since the FBI confirmed 10 people were killed when Shamsud Din Jabbar floored a rented F150 truck that was flying an ISIS flag through crowds on Bourbon Street. EXCLUSIVE: INSIDE SHAMSUD DIN JABBAR’S SQUALID HOME WHERE SHEEP AND GOATS ROAM HIS YARD — AFTER HIS FINANCIAL RUIN HOUSTON — The terrorist who killed at least 10 people when plowed his truck down crowded Bourbon Street in New Orleans was an American-born military veteran who was living in a run-down trailer park where he kept sheep and goats in the yard — just blocks away from the local mosque. From NOLA.com: Who is Shamsud-Din Jabbar?Jabbar was an Army veteran who enlisted in 2006 and spent nine years on active duty as an administrative clerk, with a deployment to Afghanistan in 2009. He was discharged honorably in 2020, an Army spokesperson said. Court and property records show Jabbar lived in Fresno, Texas — about 20 miles south of Houston — with his wife until he lost his house in their divorce in August 2022. He held a real estate license from 2019 to 2023 and worked for Deloitte, one of the nation’s largest financial services companies, records show. But he also racked up tens of thousands of dollars in credit card and other debts, according to court filings. Jabbar lived for about two years in a mobile home in north Houston before telling his landlord he was relocating to New Orleans as a renter about a month ago, the landlord said in an interview Wednesday. ’I was shocked. I was really shocked. I really cried,” said Asia Maryam, the landlord. “He was supposed to pass the key to the other tenant. I asked them if he passed the key. They said no, he’s going to New Orleans and he’s coming back to drop off his stuff.” Maryam said he never gave her or the neighbors any problems and paid his rent in cash on time every month. She said she recently received a call about his rental history from a prospective landlord in New Orleans. Maryam said Jabbar worked from home, though she doesn’t know what he did for a living. Jabbar told her he was keeping his same job but would work with different clients when he moved to New Orleans. If he had begun to associate with extremist ideologies during a period of isolation, he didn’t appear to make it known publicly. He left little of an online footprint, other than his dormant company’s website and a YouTube video he posted four years ago, promoting his real estate business. Abdur Jabbar, 24, told The New York Times that he was a brother of the suspect, and that his brother was smart, caring and converted to Islam at a young age. “But what he did does not represent Islam,” said the younger Jabbar. “This is more some type of radicalization, not religion.” The current spouse of Jabbar’s ex-wife also told reporters outside of their home in Houston on Wednesday that Jabbar had been practicing Islam and begun to behave erratically, The New York Times reported. He said Jabbar had two daughters. SUSPECT GREW UP IN TEXAS, WORKED IN REAL ESTATE Jabbar was a quiet kid in school growing up, belonging to a Muslim family that had strict rules about schoolwork, according to Edmond Dean, who said he was a childhood friend of Jabbar’s in Beaumont, where they grew up. Dean described Jabbar as “really smart” with high scores on standardized tests. Jabbar’s parents divorced when they were still in school and Jabbar joined a local Christian church, Dean said. Jabbar went to the University of Houston briefly after high school on an academic scholarship but dropped out after posting bad grades, Dean said. Representatives for the university did not respond to messages Wednesday. Jabbar went on to become a real estate agent, and posted a YouTube video in 2021 promoting his business. He promised customers service at his real estate company centered on the values he learned in the Army. He said he spent 10 years as a human resources and IT specialist in the military. A man by the same name attended Georgia State University from 2015-2017 and graduated with a degree in computer information systems, a school spokesperson said. A spokesperson for Deloitte said Jabbar was hired in 2021. “He was quiet,” Dean said. “He didn’t fight anybody. He was a pretty boy guy … A lot of girls liked him.” BOURBON STREET ATTACK SUSPECT BRIEFLY ENLISTED IN U.S. NAVY BEFORE BEING DISCHARGED: SPOKESPERSON A U.S. military spokesperson told Fox News that Shamsud Din Jabbar, the suspect behind the Bourbon Street attack, was briefly enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Jabbar enlisted in the Navy in August 2004 and was discharged one month later from the delayed entry program, an official said. He was enlisted under a different name at the time. He never made it to recruit training command, meaning he was discharged before he could have served in the Navy. "Our records show that a Shamsuddin Bahar Jabbar enlisted on Aug. 12, 2004, in Navy Recruiting District Houston and was discharged from the Delayed Entry Program one month later on Sept. 13, 2004," a Navy spokesperson explained. "He did not go to Recruit Training Command." SUGAR BOWL ANNOUNCES NEW START TIME AFTER POSTPONEMENT AMID NEW ORLEANS ATTACK The 2025 Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and Georgia will be played less than 24 hours later than its initial start time after Wednesday's deadly attack in New Orleans prompted the game's postponement. The Allstate Sugar Bowl officially announced Wednesday afternoon that the game will start at 3 p.m. local time (4 p.m. ET) on Thursday. The game was initially set to kick off on 8:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday night, and earlier reports indicated the game would be postponed 24 hours. NEW DETAILS EMERGE ABOUT SHAMSUD DIN JABBAR'S SERVICE IN THE U.S. MILITARY A spokeperson told Fox News that Jabbar served in the U.S. Army from 2007 to 2020. “Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar was in the regular Army as a Human Resource Specialist (42A) and Information Technology (IT) Specialist (25B) from March 2007 until January 2015 and then in the Army Reserve as an IT Specialist (25B) from January 2015 until July 2020," the spokesperson said. "He deployed to Afghanistan from February 2009 to January 2010. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant at the end of service.” Jabbar's awards also included the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal and the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal. The suspect was also given the Army Achievement Medal and a National Defense Service Medal, among other awards. TEXAS LT. GOV. DAN PATRICK RELEASES NEW DETAILS ABOUT BOURBON STREET ATTACK SUSPECT "He rented the truck on 12/30, and we have learned he was driving the rented truck in Houston before heading to New Orleans," Patrick said.

Then he beat Kamala while dodging bullets... 's most striking characteristics today are clarity, confidence, and calm. This is extraordinary in a man renowned for chaos, confusion, and the thin-skinned hurling of demeaning insults. But it is a truth that needs to be acknowledged and accounted for to understand what we are witnessing as Trump prepares to resume the presidency. His presser at Mar-a-Lago on Dec. 16 revealed a man almost preternaturally at ease with himself, his mission, his domestic support, and his acceptance abroad. His tone was measured, even somewhat humble, despite some bragging. When he dismissed questions, as he justifiably did once or twice, it was not done angrily or in a way that looked petty but with an assurance that widened the gap between himself and his erstwhile adversaries. The press asked questions almost deferentially, showing respect for his office and a quietude rooted in the magnitude of his political triumph and mandate. The spectacle was a stunning contrast with the media maelstrom of his first term, when the likes of CNN ...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for... 's Ace Newshound Jim Acosta ...CNN's showboating White House correspondent... , posing vainly as a modern-Danton or people's tribune, treated Trump as though he were axiomatically as illegitimate a president as Crooked HillaryClinton ...former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away. Politix is not one of her talents, but it's something she keeps trying to do... and others bitterly claimed. But as the days and weeks of the current presidential transition pass by, the significance of the stunning electoral outcome on Nov. 5 is settling on Trump, the nation, and the rest of the world. Van Jones, one of the Left's level-headed analysts, captured the truth lucidly in an interview with CNN's Chris Cillizza. When Cillizza asked Jones how such a supposedly unlikely guy as Trump ''became the one that cracked the code,'' Jones rejected the premise of the question. ''Can we cut it out? — Donald Trump is smarter than me, you, and all critics. You know how we know? Because he has the White House, the Senate, the House, the Supreme Court, the popular vote, he has a massive media ecosystem bigger than the mainstream built around him and for him, and a religious fervor in a political movement around him, and his best buddy is the richest person in the history of the world, and the most relevant Kennedy is with him. This dude is a phenomenon. He is the most powerful human on Earth in our lifetime. And we're still saying, 'How is this guy doing it?' We look like idiots.'' Jones's litany would give anyone confidence in their position and their power. Trump is the only president other than Grover Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone, ...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. After the river caught fire during the administration of Carl Stokes they tried a Republican, then went back to being Democrats when the party hacked up Dennis Kucinich... 130 years ago to win reelection after defeat. Assuming he completes his second term in office, he will have led the Republican Party for as long as Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush combined. He was impeached twice, hounded by corrupt officials in a banana-state-style lawfare campaign, convicted on 34 trumped-up felonies, faced two liquidation attempts, was shot once, and faced voters who'd been told by what was once the opinion-forming elite that he was manifestly ineligible for election and should be rejected. In the face of all this, America essentially said, ''Stuff that,'' and chose him to return to office, sweeping all swing states with a near landslide in the Electoral College and a plurality of the popular vote. Whereas in 2016, Trump could be seen as an aberration and supported by fewer voters than opposed him, today, no such self-deception is available to his detractors. The change means that he is approaching governing with a more radical reform agenda, which he is articulating with more sober and persuasive rhetoric. Although he pledged in 2016 to ''drain the swamp,'' he approached that task, if at all, only tentatively despite much braggadocio. Now, he is arriving in office more determined in his goals but more restrained and deliberate in his language. It has produced in him less swagger and more solidity. His opponents and critics have yet to work out how to respond. In the face of Trump's popular election victory, the largely silent Left and foreign leaders know that a repudiation of Trump would now be read as a repudiation of America. Naturally, foreign leaders, many of whom are already on thin ice with their own people, will not do that. And here in the United States, many critics will not do it yet. President Joe The Big GuyBiden ...46th president of the U.S. Former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body.... has vanished, and Trump is universally treated as the leader of the world's most powerful nation. This was apparent early this month at the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Gay Paree and at his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron. In 2016, then-President Barack Obama I inhaled. That was the point... mocked a tweet in which Trump called him ''perhaps the worst president in the history of the United States.'' Obama responded, ''At least I will go down as a president,'' and then dropped his mic to emphasize his smiling contempt. We cannot know how Trump's second term will pan out. But his political achievement already outshines that of Obama, who is no longer smiling. |

'Macron's Requiem': Why the Pope Refused to Attend the Opening of Notre Dame |
2024-12-11 |
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited. by Olesya Orlenko [REGNUM] The fire at Notre Dame Cathedral on April 19, 2019, was one of the most shocking events of the year for the entire world. The fear of losing the famous architectural monument, which is not just a symbol of France, but has invaluable universal, historical and cultural significance, caused a storm of emotions. French President Emmanuel Macron solemnly promised that the cathedral would be restored in time for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Despite everything, he kept his word. But the ceremony to return the masterpiece to the public was perceived as a fiasco for the French president instead of a triumph. "THEY TOOK IT TO HEART" The fire in the cathedral started in the evening, around 7:15 p.m. The nearby streets were filled with onlookers - tourists and Parisians, the firefighters worked until 4 a.m. Social networks were full of comments. Many, including Donald Trump, criticized the firefighters' actions. Experts of varying levels of expertise offered theories about the cause of the fire, suspecting, among others, atheists, "leftists" and migrants. However, as time has passed, experts agree that the fire was extinguished correctly, taking into account that it was necessary not only to eliminate the flames, but also to save the building from even greater destruction. A government agency was quickly created to coordinate the restoration of the monument. The restoration work was carried out in several stages. Until 2021, the task was to preserve the structure and strengthen the walls. Then, for more than three years, the actual restoration of the cathedral's appearance was carried out. After much debate, it was decided to return the building to the appearance it had received after its restoration in the 19th century, when it was led by the famous architect and art historian Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc. The restoration of Notre Dame's interior is planned to be completed in 2027. The unfortunate fire brought to light an internal problem related to the state's attitude to historical heritage. The cost of restoration work at Notre Dame Cathedral has already exceeded 700 million euros. They were made possible by organizing a collection of donations for the restoration of the monument. To date, people from almost all over the world have already transferred 843 million euros. About half of this amount was given by representatives of French big business. For example, the owner of the LVMH group, Bernard Arnault, who, according to him, took this tragedy to heart when he saw his 17-year-old daughter watching the fire in tears on live television. Meanwhile, the budget for maintaining all monuments in the country, including churches, museums, secular historical buildings, etc., was only 326 million euros in 2019. And, apparently, the situation has not changed for the better now. In 2024, a number of architectural monuments in France had to be closed to tourists because it was simply unsafe. The country has about five thousand churches classified as national heritage sites that are in a state of disrepair. The authorities tried to repeat the Notre Dame experience and announce a collection for the maintenance of other cultural sites, hoping to receive 200 million euros. However, this topic did not find a response in the souls of people, so it was not possible to collect even 17 million. Rachida Dati, who recently headed the Ministry of Culture, proposed transferring some of the funds sent to Notre Dame Cathedral to finance urgent work elsewhere. But this idea met with a wave of disapproval, particularly from the Catholic clergy. "SPLENDOR AND MISERY" But the cathedral in Paris was lucky, and on December 7, its grand opening ceremony took place. The whole world was watching the event. For many, the event was more important than the recent Olympic Games. Not to mention that the event itself received far more positive reviews than the scandalous opening of the summer sports competitions. Representatives of the political elite of other countries came to the capital of France. In particular, the elected US President Donald Trump, for whom this visit was the first foreign trip after winning the election. But the inexorable world press is in no hurry to describe what happened in rosy tones. And analysts see a large number of facts that darken the solemn mood. Journalists note that the event was marked not only by the presence of important guests, but also by the absence of two iconic figures. Firstly, the Pope, who refused to attend the opening despite Macron's personal invitation, but is planning to visit Corsica on December 15. The Pontiff explained his refusal by his reluctance to draw attention to himself, which on this day should be addressed only to the council. However, behind the scenes, it is assumed that he rather does not want his person to be used as an argument in the rhetoric on the Ukrainian issue in the context of Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit. The second absent guest is the current Prime Minister of France. Absent because there is still no one in that position. Emmanuel Macron positions the restoration of Notre Dame as a symbol of France, capable even in a difficult situation of mobilizing resources and talents to save its heritage. But the world media wrote more about his kind of servility to the American president. The Germans wrote that for Trump, Macron is “just an unpopular president in an ungovernable country on a continent drifting at sea.” The Italian La Stampa calls the ceremony “glitz and misery,” when “Paris shines again, but the nightmare of the crisis remains.” And the Spanish El Pais even dubbed the whole event “Macron’s requiem.” And indeed, this time many are noticing the harsh reality that even such a truly grandiose event as the resurrection from the ashes of Notre Dame Cathedral cannot overshadow. But even with his help, Macron will not be able to earn the glory of a creator, since not long before this he plunged the country into a crisis that is still far from resolved. Mark Steyn: Fire and Faith |
2024-12-08 |
[SteynOnline] ~Yesterday world leaders gathered in Paris for the re-opening of Notre Dame, five years after it was engulfed by flames. The guest of honour, somewhat surprisingly, was Donald J Trump, who was seated between M Macron and his missus. The "president-elect" will not take office for another month-and-a-half but he is already a bigger deal than any of the actual presidents, princes or prime ministers in attendance and for the most part they were happy to treat him as such. As to the non-Trump aspects of the observances, there was, I thought, a palpable absence of the divine. As you may recall, "terrorism" was ruled out even as the building was still burning - and yet no plausible alternative source of the fire has been offered in the years since while the deliberate targeting of other churches has continued uninterrupted day after day after day. Here is what I wrote (and broadcast) in the immediate wake of the inferno: Twenty-four hours after Notre Dame de Paris began to burn, there is better news than we might have expected: More of the cathedral than appeared likely to has, in fact, survived intact - including the famous rose windows, among the most beautiful human creations I've ever seen. The "new" Notre Dame will be mostly high up and out of sight, which is just as well given that modern man prides himself on having no smidgeonette of empathy with his flawed forebears and thus the chances of historic recreation of the animating spirit of 1160 are near zero. There is an architectural debate to be had, I suppose, about whether a reconstructed twelfth-century cathedral requires nineteeth-century appurtenances such as its spire. But the minute that starts you risk some insecure dweeb like Macron, on whose watch the thing went up in smoke, getting fanciful ideas about bequeathing to posterity some I M Pei pyramid on the top of the roof. France's revolution, unlike America's, was aggressively secular, and it ultimately found expression in the 1905 law on the separation of churches and the state. Since then the French state has owned the cathedral, and thus it will be Macron who ultimately decides what arises in its place. Beyond that are the larger questions: When the iconic house of worship at the heart of French Christianity decides to mark Holy Week by going up in flames, it's too obviously symbolic of something ...but of what exactly? Two thousand churches have been vandalized in the last two years: Valérie Boyer, who represents Bouches-du-Rhône in the National Assembly, said earlier this month that "every day at least two churches are profaned" - by which she means arson, smashed statutes of Jesus and Mary, and protestors who leave human fecal matter in the shape of a cross. This is a fact of life in modern France. As it is, there is no shortage of excitable young Mohammedans gleefully celebrating on social media. In 2017 some inept hammer-wielding nutter yelling "Allahu Akbar!" had a crack at Notre Dame, and a couple of years before that the historian Dominique Venner blew his brains out on the altar to protest same-sex marriage. I love France but, in recent years, it's hard not to pick up on the sense that it's coming apart - and that, when the center cannot hold, the things at that center, the obsolete embodiments of a once cohesive society, are a natural target. In addition, the authorities' eagerness to assure us that it was an accident at a time when such a conclusion could not possibly be known - and when their own response to the emergency was, to put it politely, somewhat dilatory - was itself enough to invite suspicion: "Sure, it might be an accident. But, even if it weren't, they'd still tell us it was..." So, precisely because Paris is full of people who would love to burn down Notre Dame four days before Good Friday, it seems bizarrely improbable that it should happen by accident: that a highly desirable target should be taken out by some slapdash workman leaving a cigarette butt near his combustible foam take-out box - the lunchpack of Notre Dame - and letting the dried-out twelfth-century timbers do the rest. Yet that surely is as perfectly symbolic as anything of a desiccated Christendom and its careless stewardship of its glorious inheritance. On Tucker's show last night I wondered aloud about the Parisians weeping in the street: What were they mourning? The loss of great architecture? Beautiful artwork? Magnificent music in an acoustically perfect space? Or were they mourning something greater, the loss of some part of themselves? Read the rest at the link |

‘A disgrace’: Gallant rips Macron for again barring Israeli firms from defense expo |

[IsraelTimes] Defense minister accuses France of implementing ‘hostile policy toward the Jewish people,’ after Euronaval organizer says French gov’t decided Israeli companies can’t display wares Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Wednesday called French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to ban Israeli firms from exhibiting at a naval arms show "a disgrace" and accused Gay Paree of implementing a hostile policy towards the Jewish people. The decision to bar Israeli firms is the latest by the Macron government to express its unease over Israel’s conduct in the fighting against Hamas ![]() in Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppressionand disproportionate response... and Hezbollah in Leb ...an Iranian satrapy until recently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... It came after French efforts to secure a truce in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon foundered and as Israel carries out more ... KABOOM!... s in the former French mandate. "French President Macron’s actions are a disgrace to the French nation and the values of the free world, which he claims to uphold," Gallant posted on X. "La Belle France has adopted, and is consistently implementing, a hostile policy toward the Jewish people. We will continue defending our nation against enemies on 7 different fronts, and fighting for our future — with or without La Belle France." French officials have repeatedly said that Gay Paree is committed to Israel’s security and point out that its military helped defend Israel after Iranian attacks in April and earlier this month. Euronaval, organizer of the event set to take place in Gay Paree from November 4-7, said in a statement that the French government had informed it on Tuesday that Israeli delegations were not allowed to exhibit stands or show equipment, but could attend the trade show. The decision affected seven firms, it said. It is the second time this year that La Belle France has banned Israeli firms from a major defense show. In May La Belle France said conditions were not right for Israel to participate in the Eurosatory military trade show when Macron was calling for Israel to cease operations in the Gaza Strip, where it has been fighting since Hamas’s October 7 terror onslaught last year started the war. "These measures not only harm relations between our two countries, but also the bonds of trust that they have built, and thus cast doubt on La Belle France’s ability to play a leading role on the diplomatic scene to promote peace and stability in the Middle East," the Israeli embassy said in a statement. DIPLOMATIC SPARRING Israeli forces have carried out numerous airstrikes and a ground incursion targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon, causing substantial civilian casualties and leading Western allies, including La Belle France, to call for an immediate ceasefire. Diplomatic sparring between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Macron has increased in recent weeks after Gay Paree had worked with Washington to secure a 21-day truce that would then open the door to negotiations on a long-term diplomatic solution. Believing Israel was generally on board with the effort, and having received assurances from the Lebanese government that Hezbollah would go along with it, La Belle France and the United States were caught by surprise when the next day Israel launched strikes that killed Hezbollah leader His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah ...The late, lamented satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...> Netanyahu has rejected a unilateral ceasefire that fails to stop Hezbollah rearming and regrouping, while the Lebanese terrorist organization has ruled out any truce that is not accompanied by an end to the fighting in Gaza. La Belle France has sought to continue to work on a diplomatic resolution. Macron has irked Netanyahu several times, notably as United Nations ...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships... peacekeeping forces have been caught in Israeli crossfire in southern Lebanon. La Belle France, with nearly 700 troops in the 10,000-strong UNIFIL peacekeeping force, is one of the main European contributors alongside Italia and Spain. All three have condemned what the UN says have been Israeli attacks and violations against peacekeepers, while Israel maintains its operations have targeted Hezbollah posts but their proximity to UNIFIL has led to several accidental strikes. Macron has urged an end to the supply to Israel of offensive weapons used in Gaza and Lebanon, a call that Netanyahu has slammed as "a disgrace." On Tuesday, Macron told a cabinet meeting that Netanyahu should not forget that Israel was created by a UN decision, according to a French official. Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot sought to downplay the comments, saying they had been general remarks reminding Israel of the importance of respecting the UN charter. But Netanyahu’s office said in response that Israel was established through "the War of Independence with the blood of our heroic fighters, many of whom were Holocaust survivors, including from the Vichy regime in La Belle France" — referring to the French government that had collaborated with Nazi Germany.
