US says new Syrian government will help locate missing Americans |
2025-05-26 |
[X] President Trump makes it clear HTS needs to pay to play.
Syria agrees to help US find missing citizens: Envoy [Rudaw] Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa (right) meeting US Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack (left) in Istanbul on May 24, Syria’s interim government has agreed to help the United States find its missing citizens or their remains, the US special envoy said on Sunday, a day after meeting interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa. “A powerful step forward. The new Syrian government has agreed to assist the USA in locating and returning USA citizens or their remains. The families of Austin Tice, Majd Kamalmaz, and Kayla Mueller must have closure,” Tom Barrack, who also serves as the US ambassador to Turkey, said on X. Barrack met Sharaa and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani in Istanbul on Saturday after Washington lifted sanctions on Damascus, discussing a host of topics including investment opportunities and joint security cooperation. Tice, a freelance journalist for outlets such as AFP and The Washington Post, has been missing in Syria since 2012 after being detained at a checkpoint. Kamalmaz, a Syrian-American psychologist from Virginia, vanished in Syria in 2017 after being stopped at a regime checkpoint, and aid worker Mueller was kidnapped by the Islamic State (ISIS), which announced her death in a Jordanian airstrike in 2015, but her death remains disputed by Washington. “President Trump has made it clear that bringing home USA citizens or honoring, with dignity, their remains is a major priority everywhere. The new Syrian Government will aid us in this commitment,” Barrack said. An informed Syrian source told AFP that 11 Americans are on Washington’s list for a search mission for the remains of Americans killed by ISIS in Syria. During a trip to the Middle East last week, Trump announced his decision to lift sanctions on Syria. The next day, Trump met with Sharaa during a summit in Riyadh, hosted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and attended remotely by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Trump urged Sharaa to normalize relations with Israel, expel all “foreign terrorists” from Syria, and cooperate with the US to prevent an ISIS resurgence, according to a White House statement. On Friday, the US Treasury issued the Syria General License (GL) 25 to effectively lift all sanctions. Since taking office in January after toppling the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, the new leadership in Damascus has made lifting international sanctions a top priority. While several countries have expressed openness to removing Assad-era restrictions, they have emphasized the need for the new leadership to meet critical benchmarks such as inclusive governance and fighting terrorism. |

IDF soldier seriously hurt in north Gaza Thursday as dozens of Palestinians said killed in strikes |
2025-05-24 |
[IsraelTimes] Military says 98th Division has returned to the enclave, operating in Khan Younis; Hamas-run Gaza civil defense says 52 killed in aerial bombardment in past day An IDF tank commander was seriously maimed during fighting in the northern Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppressionand disproportionate response... Strip on Thursday as the military pushed ahead with its widened offensive in the enclave. Gaza’s health authorities said the ongoing campaign had killed more than 50 people over the past day. The military said that the injured tank commander, who serves in the 401st Armored Brigade’s 52nd Battalion, was evacuated from the Strip to a hospital, and his family was notified. In a separate incident on Thursday, a soldier was lightly maimed when a grenade went kaboom!during operations in southern Gaza. Late last week, the military launched its new offensive dubbed Operation Gideon’s Chariots, which Israel says seeks to destroy remaining Hamas ![]() capabilities and seize and retain Gaza territory while relocating Paleostinians across the enclave. The military announced on Thursday that the IDF’s elite 98th Division had returned to operating in the Gaza Strip, bringing the number of divisions acting in the enclave to five. The elite formation of paratrooper and commando units — made up of thousands of soldiers — is operating in Khan Younis, the military said, and is working to establish "operational control" and destroy Hamas’s infrastructure in the southern Gaza city, both above and below ground. The army said that troops of the division had already killed dozens of terror operatives, including in close-quarters combat and through directing ... KABOOM!... s. Some 200 sites used by terror groups had been demolished, including tunnels, the army added. At the same time as the IDF operated across large parts of southern Gaza, it issued an evacuation warning for Paleostinians in 14 different locations in the enclave’s north. Among the areas included in the evacuation zone were Sheikh Zayed, Salatin, Beit Lahiya, and Jabaliya. In a post on X, the IDF’s Arabic-language front man, Col. Avichay Adraee, warned that the military was operating "with great force" in these areas and that they were considered "dangerous combat zones." A map posted alongside the warning showed a swath of territory marked in red. The army had issued a similar evacuation call for northern Gaza late Wednesday following rocket fire on southern Israel. The vast majority of Gaza’s 2.4 million have been displaced at least once during the war. Hundreds of people have been reported dead across the Strip since the start of the new Israeli offensive, and on Thursday evening, the Hamas-run civil defense agency said that 52 people had been killed in the past day, and dozens more had been injured. The figures, which do not differentiate between civilians and button men, could not be verified. Israel says it only targets terror groups and makes efforts to minimize harm to civilians. AFP footage of northern Gaza showed numerous plumes of smoke rising from the area over the course of the afternoon. Earlier on Thursday, the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry said a tank shell hit a medicine warehouse inside al-Awda Hospital in Beit Lahiya, on the northern edge of the enclave, and set it ablaze. Videos taken by a health official at al-Awda showed walls blown away and thick black smoke billowing over wreckage. While rescue workers were trying to extinguish the fire, medics said tanks had been stationed outside the hospital, effectively blocking access to it. Hospital director Mohammed Salha said that the civil defense agency had spent three hours trying to contain the fires and failed. |

Two Men Found Guilty of Financing 2019 Al-Shabaab hotel Attack in Kenya |
2025-05-24 |
[Garowe] A court in Kenya has found two men guilty of aiding an al-Shabaab![]() attack in Kenya that left 21 people dead in 2019, with the Kahawa Law Courts linking them directly with the prime perpetrators following evidence tabled before the judge. The two, Hussein Mohammed Abdille Ali and Mohammed Abdi Ali, who were earlier found to have a case to answer, appeared before Lady Justice Diana Kavedza, who found them guilty on all charges except one, of conspiring to commit a terrorist act contrary to the law. According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), Hussein was found guilty of facilitating the gunnies through the payment of $6500 to one of the killers who died instantly after the attack. "The court found that he had facilitated the attack by transferring a total of Ksh.. 836,900 (6500) via M-Pesa to Ali Salim Gichunge, also known as Farouk or Erick Kinyanjui Munyi — the dear departed attacker and a member of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group," stated the ODPP. "These transactions occurred between October 14, 2018, and January 12, 2019, in the Soko Mbuzi area of Mandera County." A total of 46 witnesses were presented by the prosecution, which played an integral role in securing convictions. The team wants sentences for each count to run consecutively rather than concurrently. The court ordered the preparation of a probation report within 21 days, to be submitted by June 17, 2025. The matter was scheduled for a sentencing hearing on June 19, 2025. This is a major breakthrough in the fight against al-Shabaab. In the recent hearing of the case, the first accused, Mire Abdulahi, previously entered a plea bargain with the prosecution and was duly convicted and sentenced. The court on January 21st found that the two suspects had a case to answer. During the trial in January, Lady Justice Kavedza in her ruling said, "Having considered the evidence of 55 witnesses, including expert testimonies, and the material presented before me, I am satisfied that the prosecution has established a prima facie case against the two accused persons. I hereby place the second accused, Hussein Mohammed Abdile, and the third accused, Mohammed Abdi Ali, on their defence." Two Kenyan men charged with facilitating the 2019 attack on a luxury hotel complex that left 21 people dead were found guilty on Thursday and will be sentenced next month. Judge Diana Kavedza, while sitting in a court in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, ruled that the prosecution had proved that Hussein Mohamed Abdille Ali and Mohamed Abdi Ali sent money and helped acquire fake identification documents for the militants who died during the DusitD2 hotel complex attack. Somali Forces Kill Senior Al-Shabaab Leader in Operation, says NISA |
2025-05-22 |
[ShabelleMedia] Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) announced on Sunday that its elite forces, Gaashaan, killed a senior al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... commander during a planned operation late Saturday night. The statement, which did not disclose the name of the slain leader, confirmed that the operation took place in the Sabiid area of the Lower Shabelle region. The report also stated that the entire security detail protecting the leader was killed in the raid. "NISA forces, who had closely monitored the movements of the leader, conducted the operation after confirming intelligence about his location. All militia members assigned to protect him were also eliminated at the scene," the statement read. In addition to this operation, NISA reported that ![]() KABOOM!... s carried out in the Ceel Hareeri area of Hiran region from Saturday to Sunday had killed 46 individuals, including both senior commanders and fighters belonging to al-Shabaab. The operations come as NISA’s Director, Abdullahi Mohammed Ali Sambaloolshe, has been on the frontlines in the Hiran region for the past two days, overseeing the ongoing military actions in the area. Al-Shabaab, the al-Qaeda-linked group, has been waging an insurgency against the Somali government for over a decade, frequently carrying out deadly attacks using a range of tactics, including mortar shelling in the capital, Mogadishu. |

US to appoint its ambassador to Turkey as special envoy for Syria, sources say |
2025-05-22 |
[IsraelTimes] State Department says no announcement yet on Thomas Barrack, a longtime friend of president; move comes as administration builds ties with new Damascus regime The United States will appoint President Donald Trump’s longtime friend and current US ambassador to Turkey, Thomas Barrack, as a special envoy for Syria, a person with direct knowledge of the matter and a diplomat in Turkey said. The decision follows Trump’s landmark announcement last week that US sanctions on Syria would be lifted. It also suggests US acknowledgement that Turkey has emerged with key regional influence on Damascus since Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad’s ouster by rebels in December, ending 14 years of civil war. Asked for comment, a US State Department spokesperson said: “There is no announcement at this time.” Speaking to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday, US Secretary of State Rubio said he was allowing Turkish embassy staff, including Barrack, to work with local officials in Syria to understand what kind of aid they need. “We want to help that government succeed, because the alternative is full-scale civil war and chaos, which would, of course, destabilize the entire region,” Rubio said. A US-Turkish meeting focused on Syria took place in Washington on Tuesday with Barrack in attendance, according to Turkey’s foreign ministry, which said sanctions relief and efforts to counter terrorism had been discussed. The US had sought a step-for-step approach to Syria sanctions relief until Trump’s announcement that he was ordering “the cessation of sanctions,” which he said aimed to give Syria a chance to recover from devastating war. He said he made the decision after discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. Trump also met with Syria’s interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia on May 14 and urged him to normalize ties with longtime foe Israel following his surprise sanctions announcement. Removing US sanctions that cut Syria off from the global financial system would clear the way for greater engagement by humanitarian organizations working in Syria, and ease foreign investment and trade as the country looks to rebuild. |

Strip, the military said Wednesday, marking the second combat fatality since the launch of a widened offensive in the enclave over the weekend. Paleostinians in the Strip reported 19 people killed in overnight ... KABOOM!... s, as Israel pressed the offensive amid mounting international pressure to halt the fighting and allow more aid into the beleaguered territory. The Israel Defense Forces said Staff Sgt. Danilo Mocanu, 20, was killed Tuesday amid fighting in Khan Younis, which has become a focus of the intensified military campaign in recent days. According to a preliminary IDF probe, Mocanu was killed when a bomb planted by terror operatives went kaboom!in a building, which then collapsed with him inside. Mocanu, of the 7th Armored Brigade’s 82nd Battalion, had gone into the building with a second soldier following initial scans with a drone and a bomb-sniffing dog, the investigation When the two reached the top floor of the building, a bomb that had been planted there went kaboom!, according to the probe. The detonation brought the top floor onto the rest of the structure, collapsing it. It took soldiers several hours to extract the body from the rubble, the army said. The second soldier was rescued relatively quickly with minor injuries. Mocanu, a resident of Holon, is the 420th fatality among Israeli service-members since Israel launched its offensive in Gaza following the October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel, in which thousands of Hamas ![]() -led Death Eaters killed some 1,200 people and kidnapped 251 others. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered condolences to Mocanu’s family as well as the family of Sgt. Yosef Yehuda Chirak, 22, who was killed Monday in a friendly fire incident while operating with soldiers preparing to demolish a tunnel in northern Gaza. A friend, Sergei Marchenko, told Hebrew-language media that Mocanu insisted on serving as a combat soldier despite being eligible for an exemption due to being his father’s only child. "He was scared of war, but said it was for the country," Marchenko told Channel 12 news. "We spoke a month ago, he said it was hard, but, like every combat soldier... did not complain." According to the Ynet news site, the building where Mocanu was killed was on the western side of Khan Younis, near the Israeli border. The soldiers entered the structure as part of operations paving the way for a broad ground push into Gaza’s second-largest city, which was largely destroyed in earlier rounds of fighting. Israel on Monday ordered the city’s tens of thousands of residents to move to a humanitarian zone to the southeast, warning that it was preparing an "unprecedented attack" on the area. The military said Wednesday that the air force had struck 115 targets across the Strip over the past day, hitting rocket launchers, buildings used by terror groups, tunnels, other infrastructure, and cells of operatives. The Navy also shelled areas of northern Gaza to assist troops on the ground, the army said. According to the military, one missile launched from a helicopter gunship impacted inside Israel near the Gaza border fence due to a technical malfunction. No injuries were caused and an investigation was launched. The IDF also announced that a recent dronezap in northern Gaza had killed Mohammed Shaheen, a member of Hamas’s elite Nukhba force in the terror group’s East Jabalia Battalion who participated in the October 7 attack, according to Israel. Gaza’s Hamas-run civil defense agency reported that overnight strikes killed at least 19 people, including a week-old baby, after health authorities said 85 people were killed Tuesday. "Our crews transported 19 dead, most of them children, and dozens of injured following air raids carried out by the Israeli warplanes in various areas of the Gaza Strip last night and early today," civil defense front man Mahmud Bassal told AFP, naming multiple victims including the newborn. The figures, which do not differentiate between civilians and button men, could not be verified. Israel says it takes steps to minimize civilian casualties and blames Hamas which is deeply embedded in civilian infrastructure, operating out of camps, hospitals and schools. The intensified strikes are part of a major new offensive dubbed "Gideon’s Chariots" launched over the weekend, which Israel says seeks to destroy Hamas and seize and retain the whole territory, while relocating Paleostinians across the enclave. On Tuesday, IDF chief Eyal Zamir threatened to ramp up the campaign even further if Hamas did not agree to Israel’s demands that it release the hostages and give up power. "It will face intense firepower," he said. "We will expand the ground maneuver, conquer additional territory, clear and destroy the terror infrastructure until it is defeated." Israel is seeking to pressure Hamas into freeing 58 hostages remaining in Gaza, about a third of whom are believed to be alive, and demands that the group relinquish power before ending the war. On Tuesday, Netanyahu recalled a high-level negotiating team from Doha, where talks on a ceasefire and hostage release deal appeared to be stuck. Jerusalem is facing escalating international pressure to halt the military campaign and allow aid into the enclave. Internal notes circulated among aid groups Wednesday and seen by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named said that 65 trucks of humanitarian aid ![]() Under pressure, Israel agreed this week to allow a "minimal" amount of aid into the Paleostinian territory after preventing the entry of food, medicine and fuel since early March. But UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Tuesday that aid workers were not able to bring the deliveries to distribution points where it is most needed, after the Israeli military forced them to reload the supplies onto separate trucks and workers ran out of time. COGAT, the Israeli Defense Ministry body that oversees humanitarian aid, said five trucks entered Monday and 93 trucks entered Tuesday. The United Nations ...the Oyster Bay money pit... humanitarian agency received approval for about 100 trucks to enter Gaza, front man Jens Laerke said, which is far less than the 600 that entered daily during the latest ceasefire that Israel ended in March. The Foreign Ministry said dozens are expected to enter each day. The aid included flour for bakeries, food for soup kitchens, baby food and medical supplies. The UN humanitarian agency said it is prioritizing baby formula in the first shipments. Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) said the aid being allowed in fell far short of what was needed, describing it as a "smokescreen to pretend the siege is over." "The Israeli authorities’ decision to allow a ridiculously inadequate amount of aid into Gaza after months of an air-tight siege signals their intention to avoid the accusation of starving people in Gaza, while in fact keeping them barely surviving," said Pascale Coissard, MSF’s emergency coordinator in Gaza’s Khan Younis. Dujarric described the new security process for getting aid cleared to warehouses as "long, complex, complicated and dangerous." Israel says it is implementing steps to attempt to keep the aid from being diverted by Hamas. |

Faces Behind Widespread Fraud and Human Trafficking Network Exposed in Somalia |
2025-05-20 |
[ShabelleMedia] An extensive criminal network involving Somali nationals has been uncovered following detailed investigations by government authorities. The inquiry has revealed years of involvement in fraudulent schemes and human trafficking operations spanning Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... and North America. Authorities have identified Mohammed Osman Haji Ali, Hamdi Abdulkadir Osman and Mohamud Hassan Ali as the central figures behind the operation. The trio reportedly operated under various false identities, at times presenting themselves as government officials, civil society representatives, think tank researchers or labour experts. Their objective, according to officials, was to infiltrate government institutions and defraud international organizations, including the United Nations ...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships... Senior officials within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, speaking on condition of anonymity ... for fear of being murdered... due to the sensitivity of ongoing investigations, confirmed that both Mohammed Osman and Hamdi Abdulkadir recently returned to Somalia from Canada and Sweden, respectively. They submitted to the Ministry what appeared to be a proposal for a labour project, allegedly linked to Ottoman Turkish trade unions and the Ottoman Turkish Ministry of Labour, seeking to solicit millions of US dollars from ![]() The proposal was initially submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but was later referred to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs for follow-up due to its relevance to labour issues. However, some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them... officials at the Labour Ministry swiftly identified the proposal as fraudulent, exposing it as an attempt to exploit ministerial structures to access foreign funding under false pretences. Following the collapse of the scheme, Mohammed Osman reportedly shifted his focus to human trafficking. According to official sources, he re-engaged Mohamud Hassan Ali, who had previously served as Director of the Minister’s Office under Minister Abdiwali Ibrahim Sheikh Mudey at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Mohamud reminded Osman of their earlier operations in which individuals had been trafficked to Switzerland ...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell... using forged documents, official stamps and falsified ministerial signatures. Authorities confirmed that the renewed trafficking scheme was orchestrated by both Mohammed Osman and Mohamud Hassan. The operation involved collecting between $15,000 and $19,000 per person to be smuggled into Europe during 2025. To facilitate the plan, Hamdi Abdulkadir was tasked with pressuring the government, particularly the Ministry of Labour, to endorse the individuals they intended to present as part of a national delegation to Switzerland. Hamdi’s familial connection to a senior government official was repeatedly exploited to influence official decisions and lend legitimacy to the operation. However, some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them... the Labour Ministry rejected the request outright, refusing to approve the inclusion of individuals falsely presented as "labour representatives" intended for human trafficking. A senior government official stated: "Hamdi Abdulkadir Osman does not work with our government. Yes, she has a relative in the office, but that does not give her the authority to interfere with how government business is conducted. Her actions constitute criminal misrepresentation. She is putting the integrity of public institutions at risk by seeking to legitimise human trafficking." Investigators discovered that this was not the first time the trio had been involved in smuggling operations. In 2016, Mohamud Hassan Ali was interrogated by Swiss authorities on suspicion of human trafficking but was not detained after smuggling three individuals into Switzerland. These individuals later absconded to the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway, taking advantage of free movement within the Schengen Area. Fearing arrest, Mohamud fled and applied for asylum elsewhere in Europe. In 2018, facing a similar risk of apprehension, Mohammed Osman travelled to the United States, crossed into Canada and claimed asylum in Winnipeg, believing that applying for asylum in Europe would increase the likelihood of arrest. Despite their asylum applications, both Mohamud and Mohammed reportedly continued their operations remotely through proxies. In 2019, Mohammed Osman used Ahmed Hassan Omar to facilitate the trafficking of Abdilkadir Awil Mohamud into Switzerland, reportedly for a payment of $20,000. Somali authorities, upon discovering the scheme, informed Swiss immigration officials. This led to the denial of a visa for Abdilkadir. Following the failed attempt ... Curses! Foiled again!... , Ahmed Hassan Omar travelled alone to Switzerland, absconded and later applied for asylum in La Belle France. He was eventually deported after fingerprint records in the Schengen database revealed his links to smuggling networks and his asylum application was rejected. According to witnesses interviewed, the group’s local associate in Mogadishu, Abdisalam Yarow, had been handpicked by Mohammed Osman, while he remains in Canada. He was later exposed and discredited, rendering him irrelevant to the operation. Mohammed Osman then severed ties with Tarow and relied solely on Hamdi Abdulkadir as the new public face of the operation. Hamdi subsequently approached Swedish trade unions and the International Labour Organization (ILO), claiming to be a trade union representative. Her attempts were quickly flagged as dubious and her communications were blocked. Similarly, Mohammed Osman attempted to contact the Canadian Labour Congress from Winnipeg. Officials there dismissed his approach after identifying him as an impostor posing as a Somali trade unionist. Both the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and ITUC-Africa, along with the ILO, confirmed that Mohammed Osman, Ahmed Hassan Omar and Abdisalam Yarow had been placed on a no-contact list following verification of falsified claims, impersonation and forged credentials. Reliable sources confirmed that Swiss authorities, already familiar with the criminal activities of Mohammed Osman and Mohamud Hassan, have been alerted once again. Reports indicate that Mohammed, Mohamud and Hamdi had planned to use foreign passports and fraudulent documentation to smuggle individuals through Swiss borders in late May or early June 2025. According to officials, during an earlier phase of their operations between 2014 and 2016, Mohammed Osman and Mohamud Hassan exploited Mohamud’s position within the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs under Minister Abdiwali Ibrahim Sheikh Mudey to produce official-looking documents that enabled individuals to enter Europe. In one documented case, a forged invitation letter and ministry seal were used to secure entry for individuals who later absconded in Europe. Recent attempts to revive these activities have failed due to enhanced scrutiny and stronger coordination between Somali ministries and international institutions. The group’s fraudulent association with the so-called Somali Congress of Trade Unions, a fabricated entity created to gain international legitimacy, was also exposed. An individual who had previously worked with Mohammed Osman confirmed that the entity was entirely fictitious. International organizations, including the ILO and ITUC, have since blacklisted the names and email addresses of those involved. Sources within the Somali government insisted that they are committed to combating human trafficking. Government ministries have been formally alerted and instructed to remain vigilant against criminal actors attempting to exploit national institutions and international partnerships. Investigations into Mohammed Osman Haji Ali, Hamdi Abdulkadir Osman and Mohamud Hassan Ali are ongoing. Shabelle Media Network has reviewed documentation confirming that their names have been forwarded to Swiss criminal investigation authorities for appropriate legal action in relation to impersonation, fraud and trafficking offences. In the past three months alone, Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) has arrested 21 individuals involved in human trafficking to the United Kingdom and European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... territories. Several suspects are now being pursued through international channels, with extradition requests underway to bring those hiding in Europe to justice. |

That, too: Hamas document shows Oct. 7 attack aimed at derailing Saudi normalization – report |
2025-05-19 |
[IsraelTimes] In days prior to assault, leader Sinwar said ‘extraordinary act’ needed quash Riyadh’s openness to diplomatic ties with Israel; other documents show great concern over issue Hamas ..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",... ’s Gazoo chief Yahya Sinwar told associates in the days prior to the terror group’s devastating October 7, 2023, attack, on Israel that an "extraordinary act" would be required to derail normalization talks between Israel and Saudi Arabia ![]() , according to a document reportedly found by the IDF in Gaza. The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday on a number of documents from recent years that discussed Hamas’s concerns about Saudi movement toward diplomatic ties with Israel, and the terror group’s efforts to hamper it. Successive American administrations have sought to broker such an agreement, framing it as the "crown jewel" of potential normalization deals, in light of Saudi Arabia’s overarching status in the Arab and Moslem worlds. Arab intelligence officials familiar with Hamas told the Journal that the documents appeared to be genuine. The Journal did not publish any images of the documents, and there was no official Israeli comment. The minutes of a meeting of Hamas’s political bureau in the Strip on October 2, 2023, cite Sinwar as saying, "There is no doubt that the Saudi-Zionist normalization agreement is progressing significantly." The Hamas leader warned a deal would "open the door for the majority of Arab and Islamic countries to follow the same path." According to the Wall Street Journal, Sinwar said that it was time to activate an attack plan that the terror group had been working on for some two years "to bring about a major move or a strategic shift in the paths and balances of the region with regard to the Paleostinian cause." Without directly quoting the document, the Journal said Sinwar — who was killed by the IDF about a year into the war — expected other Iran-backed terror and proxy groups to join the fighting. Other documents apparently seized by the IDF and reviewed by the newspaper included one from September 2023 that recommended escalating violence in the West Bank and Jerusalem to decrease the chances of normalization between Jerusalem and Riyadh. That document criticized the Saudis for what Hamas saw as their "weak and limited steps to neutralize" the terror group and prevent it from blocking normalization. A Hamas briefing from August 2022, marked "secret" and composed by the group’s military leadership, urged a "reposition" in order to "preserve the survival of the Paleostinian cause in the face of the broad wave of normalization by Arab countries, which aims primarily to liquidate the Paleostinian cause." That realignment increased its coordination with, among others, the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah. Then, in October that year, Hamas prepared a job advertisement, also found by the Israeli military, for a position in its Department of Arab and Islamic Cooperation to lead diplomatic efforts to stop normalization. It described the job as, in part, "Marketing the movement’s programs to confront normalization" and organizing activism groups in the Arab world to call for boycotts on entities that backed having ties with Israel. Hamas did not respond to a request for comment on the report, the Journal said. Though Israel and Saudi Arabia have not established diplomatic relations, their clandestine ties strengthened in recent years as they confronted a shared threat in Iran. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Saudi Arabia in November 2020 to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman'>Mohammed bin Salman ...Crown Prince and modernizer of Saudi Arabia as of 2016. The Turks hate him, so he must be all right, despite the occasional brutal murder of Qatar-owned journalists... , the first publicly reported meeting between the two. Former US president Joe The Big GuyBiden ...46th president of the U.S. Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant.... ’s administration sought to include a normalization accord between Israel and Saudi Arabia in a "mega-deal" it worked to sign with Riyadh, which has long made clear, however, that such an agreement would require a political horizon for the Paleostinians. The Biden administration had managed to make significant progress in the series of bilateral agreements with Saudi Arabia — and was slated to begin serious discussions with Riyadh regarding the exact terms of the Paleostinian component of the package — when Hamas launched its October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, in which some 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage. The onslaught and ensuing war derailed the normalization effort and Riyadh began to recognize that it would need more concrete steps toward the establishment of a Paleostinian state, as solidarity with the Paleostinians in Saudi Arabia and the region on the lam skyrocketed due to the devastation in Gaza. US President Donald Trump ...The cad! Twice caught beating wimmin!... has also pledged to broker an Israel-Saudi normalization deal, repeatedly asserting that additional countries would quickly join the Abraham Accords, which normalized ties between Israel and several Arab countries at the tail end of his first term. But during a visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, part of a three-day regional tour that did not include Israel, he indicated his recognition that Riyadh won’t be joining as quickly as he may have hoped. It is not the first time that documents ostensibly found in Gaza have been leaked to the international press. |

Israel, Hamas say hostage-ceasefire talks renewed after IDF initiates major new offensive |
2025-05-18 |
[IsraelTimes] Terror group says negotiations in Qatar held ‘without preconditions’; Israel’s Katz argues Gaza op brought Hamas to table; teams said discussing 2-month truce with US involvement A new round of negotiations for a Gazoo ceasefire and hostage deal between Hamas ![]() and Israel began in Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi... on Saturday after the Israeli military launched its new expanded offensive in the Gaza Strip, according to both Israeli and Hamas officials. Hamas confirmed a new round of talks was underway. Terror group official Taher al-Nono told Rooters that both sides were discussing all issues without "preconditions." Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed Israel’s negotiating team to remain in Qatar for the time being, an Israeli official said late Saturday, in a move widely seen as indicating wary optimism about prospects for progress. Netanyahu was in continuous contact throughout Saturday with the delegation, with Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, and with US envoy Steve Witkoff, "in an effort to dissuade Hamas from its refusal and to advance a deal for the release of our hostages," the official said. Defense Minister Israel Katz argued that it was the start of the new campaign that had brought Hamas to the table. Israeli and Hamas delegations had traveled to Qatar earlier in the week after the terror group released American-Israeli hostage soldier Edan Alexander, as part of an agreement with Washington that did not involve Israel and ahead of US President Donald Trump ...They hit him with slander, they impeached him twice. Nancy Pelosi tore up his State of the Union address on national TV. They stole an election and put his adherents in jail. They vilified him. They couldn't crucify him, so they shot him. Still, they can't keep him down... ’s visit to the region. However, the hip bone's connected to the leg bone... according to reports, those talks made little progress, with both sides entrenched in their usual positions: Israel demanding a temporary truce only so long as Hamas is undefeated, and the terror organization insisting on an end to the war. On Saturday morning, Katz said in a statement: "With the launch of Operation Gideon’s Chariots in Gaza, led with great force by IDF command, the Hamas delegation in Doha announced a return to negotiations on a hostage deal, contrary to the intransigent stance they had taken up until that moment." He added, "The heroism of IDF soldiers, the unity of the people, and the determination of the politicianship increase the chances of bringing back the hostages." Hamas’s Nono said the group was "keen to exert all the effort needed" to help mediators make the negotiations a success, adding there was "no certain offer on the table." The Qatari al-Araby al-Jadeed news site cited an unnamed senior Hamas source as saying negotiators in Doha were discussing a two-month truce deal during which talks would be held on ending the war. According to the source, there would be clear involvement from Washington to ensure that the agreement would be implemented. Kan news reported that the deal on the table would see the release of 10 living captives for a one-and-a-half-to-two-month-long ceasefire. Around 200-250 Paleostinian prisoners would be released by Israel as part of such a deal, the report said, adding that the specific number remains a point of contention. Hamas would also hand over a list detailing the status of all remaining living and dead hostages on the 10th day of the ceasefire, the report said. Channel 12 news reported, citing Egyptian sources, that Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya was meeting with Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed al-Thani Saturday night An Israeli official told Channel 12 that the talks in Doha were "serious," but that "Hamas needs to understand they must agree to the Witkoff framework, and if not, the ground offensive will begin soon" in Gaza. In March, US Special Envoy Witkoff proposed a temporary ceasefire of some 40 days in exchange for the release of about half of the remaining living hostages, and Israel has hoped to advance such an agreement. Hamas has so far rejected partial deals, instead insisting on an agreement that would permanently end the war. A Paleostinian source cited by the Kan public broadcaster on Saturday night asserted that the main obstacle to a deal is whether Israel will agree to give assurances that it won’t resume the war in Gaza after all the hostages are released. Hamas is demanding such international guarantees, including from the United States, in the current negotiations, the source said. Hamas has said it is prepared to cede control of the Strip and agree to a year-long truce with Israel that includes security guarantees. However, the hip bone's connected to the leg bone... it has long refused demands that it permanently disarm. |

Turkey talking with neighbors about PKK disarmament: Erdogan |
2025-05-18 |
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First![]() said on Saturday that his country is engaged in talks with its neighbors on disarmament of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). "Discussions are ongoing with our counterparts in neighboring countries regarding how the Death Eaters beyond our borders will surrender their weapons," Erdogan told news hounds on his return from Albania. "The complete disarmament of the terrorist organization, the full implementation of the dissolution decision, and the abandonment of illegality are essential requirements," he added. The PKK said on Monday that it had decided to "dissolve its organizational structure and end the armed struggle" against the Ottoman Turkish state. No timeline has been set. The move, widely seen to include its disarmament, has been welcomed by regional and Western countries. A PKK spokesperson, however, said on Friday that the group has not decided to lay down arms yet as there has been no change to the security landscape in northern Kurdistan Region where they are headquartered and have been battling Ottoman Turkish forces. Basim al-Awadi, spokesperson for the Iraqi government, said on Friday that Baghdad is willing to receive their weapons. He also said that a potential PKK disarmament would boost Ankara-Baghdad relations and that if the process is done properly "this will certainly be encouraging and a factor in the withdrawal of all foreign forces from northern Iraq, that is, from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq." The Ottoman Turkish army has established dozens of bases and outposts in northern Kurdistan Region on the pretext of fighting the PKK. Erdogan said that the dissolution of the PKK "will also serve Iraq and Syria's peace, development, and stability." Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said Baghdad has conducted in-depth discussions with the Ottoman Turkish authorities regarding next steps for the PKK. "There are specific visions, and there will be cooperation between the federal government in Baghdad, the Ottoman Turkish government, and the Kurdistan Regional Government to deal with this important decision. We hope that this decision will be a step toward achieving peace and stability in ...a NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants... member, but not the most reliable... and the region," he told journalists on Wednesday. Iraq banned the PKK in March last year. Founded in 1978, the PKK initially pursued an independent Kurdish state but later shifted its focus toward securing broader political and cultural rights for Kurds within Turkey. Turkey, the United States, and the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... continue to list it as a terrorist organization. Iraq says ready to help with PKK disarmament [Rudaw] An Iraqi government spokesperson said on Friday that Baghdad is willing to receive weapons from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which this week announced it has decided to dissolve itself and end its armed struggle against the Turkish state. “Iraq is ready to cooperate with Turkey and the Turkish Kurdistan Workers' Party in receiving weapons," Basim al-Awadi told Rudaw, adding that Iraq has presented "initiatives that it is also ready to deal with this issue from both humanitarian and relief aspects." He said that a potential PKK disarmament would significantly contribute to Ankara-Baghdad relations and that if the process is done properly “this will certainly be encouraging and a factor in the withdrawal of all foreign forces from northern Iraq, that is, from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq." The Turkish army has established dozens of bases and outposts in northern Kurdistan Region on the pretext of battling the PKK. The PKK said on Monday that it had decided to “dissolve its organizational structure and end the armed struggle” against Ankara. The move, widely seen to include its disarmament, has been welcomed by regional and Western countries. No timeline has been set. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein told journalists on Wednesday that they have conducted in-depth discussions with the Turkish authorities regarding the PKK’s disarmament. “There are specific visions, and there will be cooperation between the federal government in Baghdad, the Turkish government, and the Kurdistan Regional Government to deal with this important decision. We hope that this decision will be a step toward achieving peace and stability in Turkey and the region,” he said. Iraq banned the PKK in March last year ahead of a visit from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan when the two sides signed agreements in various fields, including security. A PKK spokesperson said on Friday that the group has not decided to lay down arms yet, saying there has been no change to the security landscape in northern Kurdistan Region where the group is based and battling Turkish forces. “No one has talked about laying down and surrendering weapons. The caves and tunnels of resistance in Zap and Metina are still surrounded by the Turkish state and the KDP,” Zagros Hiwa, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Community Union’s (KCK) foreign relations department, told the PKK-affiliated Sterk TV. KCK is an umbrella organization consisting of several groups including the PKK. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is the most powerful political party in the Kurdistan Region and enjoys close relations with Turkey. The PKK has often accused it of supporting Ankara in anti-PKK operations. “The distance between the guerrilla fighters and the Turkish occupying soldiers is 50 meters, 100 meters. In such a situation, how can one lay down weapons?” asked Hiwa. “Before we talk about laying down weapons, we need to talk about the withdrawal of the Turkish occupying army from the soil of Southern Kurdistan [Kurdistan Region]. It's too early to define this situation as a process.” Iraqi government spokesperson Awadi said that the mechanism of the PKK’s potential disarmament will be discussed in talks between intelligence agencies of Iraq, Turkey and the Kurdistan Region. This is not the first time Iraq has been involved in disarming a Kurdish group. A security pact signed between Iran and Iraq in March 2023 saw Baghdad agree to disarm Iranian Kurdish opposition groups and secure the border regions. The groups are being relocated within the Kurdistan Region. Awadi said Baghdad intends to apply "the same mechanisms that we used with the Kurdish Iranian opposition inside Iraq, including weapons surrender and finding alternatives with the participation of the international community and organizations." Turkey has named the peace efforts “terror-free Turkey.” During an event in Istanbul on Friday, Erdogan said that the 40 years of war with the PKK has affected the economy. “We have also suffered a lot economically. We have had to allocate resources of nearly two trillion dollars to this issue. We have faced numerous problems in politics and democracy as well as in our unity and solidarity," he said. "We have had to grapple with this issue besides other troubles in international relations. Our brotherhood has been harmed because of terrorism. Our development journey proceeded very slowly because of terrorism. Now, we are taking our steps very determinedly and yet very carefully to free our country and our nation from this scourge once and for all. We will not stop until we reach our target. We will definitely achieve the goal of a terror-free Turkey,” he said. |
