List of over 50 female terrorists issued in KP
2023-12-02
[GEO.TV] The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Friday issued a list of female turbans who had been involved in different natures of unlawful activities in the province since 2014.
Five a year? Golly.
According to the list, 30 females were involved in incidents of terrorism, 13 in kidnapping, two in extortion and three each in assassination and terror financing.

CTD DIG Imran Shahid said that the intelligence agency and the law enforcement agencies were facing difficulties in arresting these female turbans due to cultural and traditional values and also because there was almost no source linked to the female criminals or terrorists.

He said that cases were registered in different cop shoppes against these female turbans and some cases were in process in different courts.

The document revealed that cases of terrorism were registered against 18 females in different cop shoppes of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

Nothing rises from these ashes
2014-04-07
[Dawn] While the court was quick to convict Sawan Masih for blasphemy, the case against the men who burned down Joseph colony is proceeding at a snail's pace.
It started with an accusation and ended in arson; on March 9, 2013, two churches and around 200 houses in Lahore's Joseph Colony were set ablaze by a mob of hundreds of people over an alleged act of blasphemy committed by one Sawan Masih.

Masih, a billiard centre owner, was accused by his friend Imran Shahid of derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PTUI!). Soon afterwards a mob surrounded the locality, where the police had already enforced an evacuation the previous night, and burnt all the houses except for five or six which somehow did not catch fire. Badami Bagh fallout: Lahore police chief replaced
2013-03-16
[Dawn] The Punjab government on Thursday removed Capital City Police Officer Amjad Javed Saleemi in connection with the Joseph Colony arson attack and appointed Sargodha RPO Muhammad Amlish as new city police chief.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
the government didn't appoint new Sargodha police chief as police sources claimed the new posting would be made by the interim government.

Sources told Dawn that Mr Saleemi had to face 'abrupt' transfer only after 35 days of his posting as Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif's government had been feeling embarrassment in the Supreme Court that took suo motu notice of the arson attack on Christians. The court blamed both the provincial government as well as city police managers for poor handling of the issue.

Sources said the government would try to get a bit relief from pressure exerted by the SC in March 18 hearing of the case by mentioning removal of top police chief, four others and arrests of accused attackers. They said blasphemy complainant Imran Shahid was still at large.

Earlier, the chief minister had made SSP (Operations) Sohail Akhtar Sukhera and City SP (Operations) Multan Khan OSDs and suspended the Badami Bagh circle DSP as well as the SHO from service.

Mr Saleemi, who had got two key postings -- Sahiwal and Sargodha RPOs -- before being appointed as CCPO in the current PML-N tenure in Punjab, has been posted DIG (Establishment) at the Central Police Office (Punjab), Lahore, against an existing vacancy.

According to police record, Mr Saleemi has been removed 'unceremoniously' from field position for third time. Earlier, he was removed from Sialkot DPO slot in connection with Sialkot district jail killings of judges and prisoners in 2003 and later from DIG (Operations) Lahore office after the terror attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009.

Mr Amlish was too posted Sargodha RPO the day Mr Saleemi was appointed Lahore CCPO on Feb 7.

Police circles are considering the new posting temporary because of the interim set-up.

A Lahore police officer, who wished not to be named, said the chief minister had once again made a senior police officer 'scapegoat' in order to save the government's skin.

He wondered if things would improve on part of the police by changing only police officers.

He said the government had to appoint new CCPO suddenly to avoid SC 'wrath' because the bench also took notice of the non-appointment of a regular IGP in Punjab.

Meanwhile,
...back at the mall, Clarissa suddenly spied Mr. Bartlett at the checkout counter. He was buying Grecian Formula!...
a good number of field officers heaved a sigh of relief after the transfer of the CCPO who launched aggressive policing by engaging officers in special field assignment from 6am to 9am and launched campaigns against non-registered motorcycles and beggars.

According to divisional SP, Mr Saleemi engaged all SSPs and SPs in field duties starting from 6am during his tenure which irked officers.

Lahore arson: Christian leaders say residents had been receiving threats
2013-03-13
[Dawn] Even as one considers the possibility of a property issue being the real motive behind the recent mob attack in Lahore's Joseph Colony, representatives of the Christian community have not ruled it out -- with some saying it was indeed the driving force behind the attack that left over a hundred houses burnt beyond recognition.

President of Pakistain Minority Front's Lahore chapter, Saleem Shakir told Dawn.com that weeks before the incident took place, "a group from the land mafia in the city's Misri Shah market had started threatening the colony's residents to vacate the area".

Situated close to Joseph Colony, Misri Shah is famous for being an old steel and scrap market in Lahore, similar to Shershah in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, with a shanty town, for instance, the Henry and Joseph colonies, located nearby.

"The issue was to move these people so that the scrap market could be extended," said Shakir.

When asked about Imran Shahid and Sawan Masih's 'drunken' brawl that preceded the attack, Michael Javed, who heads the Pakistain Minority Front in Karachi, said the allegation against Sawan Masih was "used as the perfect excuse to drive residents out of the area".

"The two were friends," added Javed. "They used to chat and drink together. I know for a fact that after the brawl, there was a lot of instigation to make it seem like a religious issue."

Shakir further noted that the police cleared up the area before the mob marched in. "If the police knew there was going to be an attack, why didn't they do anything to prevent it?"

This is not the first time the Christian community has been attacked in Pakistain. In August 2009, seven Christians were burnt alive in Gojra over the alleged desecration of the Holy Koran.

In Saturday's attack, Javed said two churches and more than a hundred bibles were also set ablaze.

And although police clashed with the arsonists and made some 25 arrests following the incident, Zohra Yusuf of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistain (HRCP) believes those nabbed will be set free after some time, saying "the police does not investigate such matters".

The police's role has also come into question over the events that preceded the arson where it had alerted the residents to the possibility of an attack and had advised them to leave the area.

Calling it "criminal negligence" on part of the law enforcement agencies, Yusuf, who heads the HRCP, said the incident could have been averted "had the Punjab government not tolerated krazed killer organizations and launched a crack down on their activities".

She said those protesting on Sunday against the arson attack in Karachi and Lahore were dispersed through tear gas and baton-charge, asking "why the same tear gas was not used against the mob on Saturday?"

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
speaking to Dawn.com, Pakistain director at Human Rights Watch
... dedicated to bitching about human rights violations around the world...
, Ali Dayan Hasan, said: "It is encouraging that there has actually been some movement in arresting the culprits of the Badami Bagh incident. If these individuals are held legally accountable, it will be the first tangible evidence that the state is doing something other than appeasing beturbanned goons." However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
it remains to be seen whether accountability will actually take place or not, he added.

"Both the federal government and the Punjab government have apprehended those involved in similar violence in the past also, only to release them quietly once the attention shifts. Deterrence comes, above all, from accountability," he added.

In this respect, Dawn.com made several attempts to contact officials in the Punjab government who remained unavailable for comment.

What transpired on March 9 takes us back to the fundamental questions surrounding the country's blasphemy laws and to the calls that have been made for their reformation. And although, former information minister and Pakistain People's Party leader Sherry Rehman had proposed an amendment to the laws, she eventually withdrew her private member bill following pressure from the party machinery.

"The situation as it stands is indicative of an ethical crisis, a legal quagmire and the impotence of a corrupt, incompetent and bigoted criminal justice system. It is for the state to perform its due role as a neutral arbiter between citizens and to ensure that a rights-respecting rule of law prevails," Hasan said.

And for that purpose, the blasphemy laws need revisiting, Yusuf said, adding that if the issue is not tackled effectively, "the state may slide toward further chaos".

The attack and the debate that has followed again redirect us to the issue of increased religious fanaticism in the country, with religious minorities questioning the protection afforded to them by the state.

"In the short term, those inciting and perpetrating violence against vulnerable groups need to be tossed in the calaboose
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
and charged under relevant legal provisions to ensure that they are unable to abuse with impunity. In the long term, Pakistain needs to end legal discrimination that enables abuse against minorities and the political cowardice and myopia that facilitates it," Hasan said.

Javed said a number of Moslem holy mans had condemned the attack and had been stressing the need to foster religious harmony. He, however, lamented that Section 295-C of the Pakistain Penal Code (PPC) had often been used to justify persecution of the Christian community and other vulnerable individuals and groups.

He asked: "Why is the same law not being applied on those who have torched churches and desecrated the Holy Bible?"

Bomb kills five, wounds 28 in Pakistan's Peshawar
2013-03-10
[Al Ahram] A bomb blast inside a Sunni Muslim mosque on Saturday killed five people and wounded 28 others in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar, officials said.

The explosion took place while people were saying afternoon prayers in the mosque located in the densely populated Mohalla Baqar Shah area of Peshawar city.

"The death toll rose to five after a blast victim died of his wounds in hospital," local senior police official Khalid Hamdani told AFP.

Earlier another local police official, Imran Shahid, said the bomb was planted inside the mosque.

He said there were up to 40 people in the building at the time of the blast.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf condemned the bombing and said "such acts of terror cannot weaken the nation's resolve to wipe out terrorism from our society", an official statement said.

Seven dead as political agent's office hit
2013-02-19
[Pak Daily Times] Seven people, including two civilians, were killed on Monday in an attack on the office of the chief administrator for the neighbouring Khyber tribal region, police and witnesses said.

The attackers wearing levies uniform reportedly aimed to free colleagues under detention. Two kabooms were heard, followed by gunfire at the compound of Muttahir Zaib Khan, where tribal officials and members of political parties had gathered for talks.

The blasts were heard by residents living across the Old Bara Road. "At least five people were killed and seven others injured in the incident," Jamal Shah, front man for the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), told Daily Times.

The dead included three personnel of the Khasadar Force (tribal police) and a line officer. The identity of the fifth victim could not be ascertained.

Police sources said that two civilians were also killed when the gunfire erupted following the attack. At least two suicide kaboomers entered the office of the political agent where a Jirga was being held with elders from Khyber tribal region, discussing the upcoming election process in their areas.

"It appears the cut-throats attacked the compound of the political agent freeing prisoners who were brought to the political agent's office," said a security bigshot. The office, seat of power in Khyber tribal region, is surrounded by two checkposts manned by the army. The jihad boys' penetration deep into the heart of the Cantonment area comes as an alarming bell for the provincial government of the Awami National Party, which lost its senior minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, and failed suicide attack on Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti.

Landikotal Assistant Political Agent Khalid Mumtaz Kundi was among those injured in the attack. He was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital. Army personnel also participated in the operation against the attackers just moments after reaching the site, according to Mumtaz Khan, a shopkeeper in the nearby super market.

"Security forces sealed off the area around Bara and Mall Road. A search operation was conducted in the area to ensure it was cleared of attackers," he told Daily Times.

Bomb Disposal Squad Additional Inspector General Shafqat Malik believed that one of the suicide attackers entered the control room and went kaboom!, destroying it completely. He sid the second jacket wallah detonated his explosives near the hall where a jirga was underway. About eight kilogrammes of high-quality explosives were used in each of the jackets, said the bomb disposal squad chief. "We were meeting Political Agent Muttahir Zaib on the code of elections in the Tribal Areas when the attackers, which I believe were two, entered and launched the attack," Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf

Vaccination drive: Motorcycles to be banned in Peshawar
2013-01-05
[Dawn] Keeping in view the frequent terrorist attacks against workers of anti-polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
, the local administration has made a plan for the security of vaccinators engaged for the forthcoming immunisation campaign beginning on Jan 5.

Under the plan, cycle of violence riding will be banned in the 48 high-risk union councils of the placid provincial capital during the four-day immunisation campaign, it is learnt.

The security plan was finalised during a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar Mohammad Javaid Marwat at his office on Thursday, where Peshawar SSP (operations) Imran Shahid, Assistant Commissioner Sikandar Zeeshan, Dr Akram Shah of the provincial health department, representatives of World Health Organisation and officials of other relevant departments were in participated.

After thorough discussion on the issues emerged from the recent killing of vaccinators in parts of Peshawar, the participants decided that the next drive would be completed in phases to ensure security of vaccinators.

They said polio drops would be administered to children in Town-4 areas on Jan 5, Town-3 on Jan 6, Town-1 on Jan 7, and Town-2 on Jan 8.

During the meeting, the DC directed the relevant officials to discharge duties diligently. He said another meeting would be held today (Friday) to review preparations for the next polio campaign.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, the spittle had reached unprecedented levels...
officials of the city's different cop shoppes have demanded additional force for supervision of polio teams, saying the existing manpower would not be able to spare time from the routine patrolling.

"We already have problems of lack of personnel and it is duty of the high-ups to arrange the reinforcement," an official of Khazana cop shoppe told Dawn, saying the area was very vast, while the resources were limited.

He said the local police had to check movement of the suspected elements thoroughly because the areas were linked to Charsadda district bordering Mohmand Agency

In Pakistain, the Mohmands infest their eponymous Agency, metastasizing as far as the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Mardan. from where forces of Evil could come to the city anytime for their activities.

"We will apprise the relevant officials of our problems in our Friday meeting with DC and will demand additional force to ensure foolproof security arrangements," the official said.

However,

the Mathra police claimed to have sufficient number of coppers and could provide security to polio teams.

"We have presently 130 coppers and at daytime, they can manage to do additional duty," the official said. About the arrest of the killers of a female vaccinator in the city, the official said there was no progress in the investigation so far.

Our Correspondent adds from Charsadda: Lady health workers in Charsadda district have refused to take part in polio campaign starting today (Friday) over security grounds.

The local officials said 267 teams had formed to carry out the campaign in 20 union councils of Charsadda and that majority of these union councils were located in Shabqadar tehsil, which had declared high-risk areas for poliovirus.

They said the administration had deployed additional personnel and banned cycle of violence riding for one day in Shabqadar tehsil to ensure foolproof security of polio teams during the campaign.

The officials said the administration had completed security arrangements for vaccinators by engaging local patwari, union council secretary and local elders.

They said female health workers had refused to participate in the campaign after attacks on polio workers and the growing insecurity.

UK's first Muslim MP quits over death threats
2007-06-22
A Labour MP has revealed that he is stepping down after getting death threats linked to a gang he helped convict for a racist murder.

His decision came after his family was threatened by a gang linked to racist murderers Imran Shahid, Zeeshan Shahid and Mohammed Faisal Mushtaq.

Mohammad Sarwar was Britain’s first Muslim MP. He has told party activists he will not be contesting his Glasgow Central seat at the next election.

The 54-year-old said his decision came after his family was threatened by a gang linked to racist murderers Imran Shahid, Zeeshan Shahid and Mohammed Faisal Mushtaq.

The three were jailed for life last year for their part in the killing of Glasgow teenager Kriss Donald, who was kidnapped, tortured and killed in Glasgow in 2004. Mr Sarwar was instrumental in arranging the extradition of the trio after they fled to Pakistan.

Three ["Asian Men"] found guilty of Glasgow race-hate murder
2006-11-09

Three Asian men (guess which part of "Asia") were today found guilty and jailed for life for the murder of Kriss Donald, the schoolboy who was BURNED ALIVE and killed in a brutal racially-aggravated attack. Imran Shahid, his brother Zeeshan Shahid, and Mohammed Faisal Mushtaq, had denied the charge but were convicted of the abduction, assault and murder of the 15-year-old at the High Court in Edinburgh. A jury of six men and nine women took eight hours to find Imran Shahid guilty by unanimous verdict and the other two guilty by majority verdicts. Imran Shahid, 29, was ordered to spend at least 25 years behind bars while his brother was given 23 years, and 27-year-old Mushtaq handed 22 years.
(I thought they said "jailed for life"? Kriss would probably have lived for a lot longer than just 25 years. Why aren't these assholes actually going to spend the rest of their natural lives in prison?)
During the trial, it emerged that all three had spent time in custody for previous offences. Kriss’s scarred and partially-clothed body was discovered on the Clyde Walkway in the East End of Glasgow, near Celtic FC’s training ground, on March 16, 2004. The previous day, he had been abducted, stabbed repeatedly and set on fire while he was still alive.

Three Pakistanis convicted of murdering Scottish boy
2006-11-09
A Scottish court on Wednesday convicted three Pakistanis of kidnapping and murdering a white schoolboy, whom they stabbed repeatedly and set on fire, and jailed them for at least 22 years each. The three had fled to Pakistan following the brutal March 15, 2004, killing of 15-year-old Kriss Donald, before they were arrested and sent back to Britain last year in a special deal in the absence of an extradition treaty. A jury at the High Court in Edinburgh took almost eight hours to convict Imran Shahid (29), his brother Zeeshan Shahid (28) and Mohammed Faisal Mushtaq (27). Following the intervention of a Scottish politician, authorities in Pakistan handed the men over to Britain for questioning in October last year after their arrest several months earlier. The British High Commission in Islamabad said at the time it was the first case of its kind because Pakistan had no formal extradition agreement with Britain, and had only been able to act after lengthy talks and a change in the law.
