IHC admits bail petitions of Zardari, Faryal for hearing

, seeking bail on medical grounds in two cases filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The petition will be heard by an IHC special bench tomorrow.

Zardari is under detention on charges of money laundering and presently undergoing treatment at the Pakistain Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad. He was arrested by NAB after the cancellation of his pre-arrest bail by the IHC in the fake bank accounts case on June 10.

In his petition, filed earlier today, he maintained that he is suffering from a heart condition and has had three stents placed in his body. He said that he also suffers from diabetes which means that he has to constantly monitor his blood sugar levels.

The PPP co-chairperson's medical reports were also submitted along with the application to the IHC so that bail may be granted.

The high court also admitted for hearing a bail petition filed by Zardari's sister Faryal Talpur. In her appeal, Talpur maintained that she is the mother of a differently-abled child. In order to care for her child, she asked the court to grant bail until the completion of the trail. Her petition will also be heard tomorrow.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Saima Younas told Dawn that the fumigation in Adiala jail was a routine exercise to protect the inmates and other residents in the surrounding areas from dengue.

She said the number of dengue patients had not decreased but efforts were being made to contain the virus in the city and cantonment areas.

"Tahir Ahsan, the president of Sindh Bank, was arrested in the fake accounts case from Karachi," according to a brief statement issued by the anti-graft body.

Other suspects, namely Syed Nadeem Altaf ‐ who is the executive vice president of Sindh Bank ‐ and Bilal Sheikh, a former president and current director of Sindh Bank, were also apprehended.

"The accused persons will be produced before the respected Accountability Court in Karachi for the grant of transit remand. After remand from the court, the accused persons will be shifted to Islamabad as per law," read the statement.

According to the corruption watchdog, the arrests were made by NAB in Karachi in coordination with the bureau's Rawalpindi team and on the orders of the bureau chairman.

The fake bank accounts case involves alleged money laundering worth billions of rupees through 29 accounts, which were found opened in three banks ‐ Summit Bank, Sindh Bank and United Bank Ltd.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had named PPP leaders Asif Ali Zardari, his sibling Faryal Talpur, Omni Group chairman Anwar Majeed, his sons and over 10 others as suspects in an interim charge sheet filed in a banking court in August last year.

and his sister Faryal Talpur appeared before a joint investigation team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Islamabad to record their statement in a multi-billion rupee money laundering and fake bank accounts case open against them.

The two, along with several PPP leaders ‐ including Yousaf Raza Gillani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman and Qamar Zaman Kaira ‐ reached the FIA Islamabad directorate amid tight security.

There, an FIA team questioned the siblings on fake accounts and transactions associated with them.

Zardari, while talking to the media, shrugged off the proceedings.

Zardari aide gets aggressive with FIA officials at Karachi airport

[GEO.TV] Anwar Majeed, owner of Omni Group and a close aide of former president Asif Zardari, was transported to Karachi from the capital by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday evening.

In the footage available with Geo News, FIA officials could be seen trying to handcuff Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani inside the airport lounge, following which Majeed snatched the handcuffs and tossed them on the floor.

The two were eventually shifted to the FIA commercial banking circle office.

The duo would be produced before court tomorrow in a case pertaining to money laundering through fictitious bank accounts.

Both were arrested on Wednesday by the FIA after their bail plea was rejected by the Supreme Court.

The agency is investigating 32 people in relation to money laundering from fictitious accounts, including Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur.

Another close aide of Zardari, Hussain Lawai, was arrested last month in connection with the probe.

Over 20 ‘benami’ accounts at some private banks were opened in 2013, 2014 and 2015 from where transactions worth billions of rupees were made, according to sources.

The amount, according to FIA sources, is said to be black money gathered from various kickbacks, commissions and bribes.

SC bars three bank chiefs from leaving Pakistan

[DAWN] The Supreme Court on Sunday ordered placing of names on the Exit Control List (ECL) of presidents and chief executive officers of three banks allegedly involved in Rs35 billion suspicious transactions used in money laundering.

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, also summoned the CEOs and presidents of the Summit Bank, Sindh Bank and United Bank Limited (UBL) and others mentioned in the FIR registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over money laundering charges even if they are in jug of the agency.

The names of the bankers would be placed on the ECL by the interior ministry so that they might not flee the country until the investigations were complete, the court ordered.

The FIA investigation has also revealed names of the beneficiaries of suspicious transactions, including those of former president

PPP MPA claims husband forced her resignation at gunpoint

[DAWN] Perveen Junejo of the PPP has denied that she willingly resigned as member of the Sindh Assembly and accused her husband of having forced her to sign the resignation paper at gunpoint.

Ms Junejo, who won the PS-76 (Dadu-III) seat in last year's general elections, said she was surprised to see reports on Friday that Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani had accepted her resignation.

She alleged that her husband Aziz Junejo had got her signature on a typed resignation paper at gunpoint in the presence of Faryal Talpur, sister of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, and MNA Rafique Jamali.

Discussions held on Baby Bhutto's election as MNA

To vacate the seat Ayaz Soomro could be given responsibilities in the Sindh Government.

Separately, Asif Ali Zardari said during a speech in Naudero that the Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) would support the Pakistain Musselmen League-Nawaz (PML-N) on each decision that would benefit the country.

Bilawal, now 25, 'keen' to enter active politics

[Dawn] Now eligible to contest general election after turning 25 on Saturday (today), PPP patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto is reportedly keen to jump into the political arena unlike his father and former president Asif Ali Zardari's statement that the scion of the Bhuttos is more interested in following higher studies at present.

But the million dollar question is whether he will be able or allowed to run the party after formally entering the political arena?

Bilawal has completed his graduation (honours) in Contemporary History and International Politics from the Oxford University. These days he is learning the Urdu and Sindhi languages and spends his time in London, Dubai and Bloody Karachi

The PPP has given no timeframe when Bilawal would take the party's rein. Mr Zardari had told journalists the other day that his son wanted to pursue further studies before entering practical politics. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
Bilawal's secretary Hasham Shiekh told Dawn on Friday that Mr Bilawal had completed his studies and at present he was keen to take part in active politics. "Mr Bilawal will fill the communication gap with the party workers in days to come," he said.

Bilawal had not headed the May election campaign despite calls from the PPP candidates, especially in Punjab, to address their rallies triggering rumours that he had developed differences with his father and aunt Faryal Talpur over running the party affairs. The PPP quarters concerned had denied such reports.

Still some PPP leaders believe that Bilawal will have no role in politics and party affairs for another five years or so. "Mr Zardari will run the party and Bilawal will be groomed further," a PPP leader from central Punjab told Dawn.
