Motorcycle-riding gunman in custody for deadly Alpharetta shooting, police say
2024-09-13
[FOX] ALPHARETTA, Ga. - A 21-year-old Milton man is accused of opening fire while riding a motorcycle through downtown Alpharetta, killing one person.

Jaden Lewis was arrested on Thursday afternoon and charged with murder and aggravated assault.

The Alpharetta Police Department released several images of the shooter riding a motorcycle wearing a black jacket with white patches, black pants, helmet, and gloves. In one image, he is seen pointing a gun. Police say the images of the suspect came from a witness's dash cam.

Justin Mourning, 46, was struck by that gunfire. He was taken to an area hospital, but he later died.

Police say they found multiple shell casings and spoke to several witnesses after the shooting. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument.

"It appears that this shooting incident escalated from an argument that occurred between the victim and a motorcycle operator," said Captain Andrew Splawn of the Alpharetta Police Department. "The altercation and incident occurred in the roadway."

SHOOTING IN ALPHARETTA SHAKES RESIDENTS
Wednesday night’s shooting happened in the normally quiet area of downtown Alphareta.

"We're just always disappointed when we hear about any kind of crime in the area and this is particularly bad," said Mark Bundy.

"It makes you a little uncomfortable, but it definitely makes you keep your guard up when you're out and about," said Lydia Tessfaye.

Detectives say shootings in downtown Alpharetta are not common.

"This incident is unusual," Spawn said. "Based on the argument that occurred before the shooting, we do believe that it's isolated."

Bundy has a son who works in the area and says this violence is upsetting.

"Anger was my first thought that I don't want that happening in my city," he said. "There's nothing going on that's worth dying for."

Mourning worked at Lumen Technologies. The company sent FOX 5 this statement: "We deeply mourn the tragic loss of a member of the Lumen family. We are doing what we can to comfort his family and those who worked with him."

10 years after armed standoff with federal agents, Bundy cattle are still grazing disputed rangeland
2024-04-15
[AP via Post Register] BUNKERVILLE, Nev. (AP) — The words "Revolution is Tradition" stenciled in fresh blue and red paint mark a cement wall in a dry river wash beneath a remote southern Nevada freeway overpass, where armed protesters and federal agents stared each other down through rifle sights 10 years ago.

It was just before noon on a hot and sunny Saturday when backers of cattle rancher Cliven Bundy, including hundreds of men, women and children, made the U.S. Bureau of Land Management quit enforcing court orders to remove Bundy cattle from vast arid rangeland surrounding his modest family ranch and melon farm.

Witnesses later said they feared the sound of a car backfiring would have unleashed a bloodbath. But no shots were fired, the government backed down and some 380 Bundy cattle that had been impounded were set free.

"Since then, we've relatively lived in peace," Ryan Bundy, eldest among 14 Bundy siblings, said in a telephone interview. "The BLM doesn't contact us, talk to us or bother us."

"The BLM does not have any comment on this subject," agency spokesman John Asselin said in response to email inquiries about the standoff, Bundy cattle grazing today in Gold Butte National Monument and the more than $1 million in unpaid grazing fees and penalties the BLM said Bundy owed in 2014.

At the ranch, Cliven Bundy greeted guests this week while cradling one of 74 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren that he has with his wife, Carol Bundy.

"We're all a little bit older," he said, "but we're still doing the same thing: ranching."

Later, watching two of his sons and a friend rope yearling bulls in a pen, the plainspoken and photogenic rancher — who rallied followers through a bullhorn that day saying, "Let's go get those cattle" — recalled being arrested, jailed for nearly two years and brought to a trial that was dismissed due to prosecutorial misconduct.

Hulk Hogan reportedly helped teenager out of a car wreck after witnessing highway crash in Florida
2024-01-16
[Blaze] Wrestling icon Hulk Hogan witnessed a car accident and helped the teenage driver out of the wreck, according to a report from TMZ.
Lifted the car off the driver?
Hogan, whose real name is Terry Gene Bollea, was driving with his wife, Sky Daily, and a friend on a highway in Clearwater, Florida, when they saw the crash, according to the report.

The former wrestler and his friend helped the 17-year-old teen get out of her car by popping the airbag and unbuckling her seatbelt.

TMZ obtained photos from the crash, and they showed the teenager's car completely upside down. They also show Hogan and his wife looking on as paramedics arrived.

Baja California's attorney general unexpectedly resigns, citing "personal reasons"
2023-08-12
[SDUT] "Please don't kill me!"
Ricardo Iván Carpio was elected by Congress and began what was supposed to be a six-year term in January 2022

Baja California’s attorney general, Ricardo Iván Carpio, presented his resignation Thursday, citing personal reasons, officials said.

He will be replaced by Rafael Orozco, who has been serving as the office’s lead prosecutor and second in charge. Orozco will be in charge while the Baja California Congress carries out the process of appointing a new attorney general.

"The pursuit of justice is an important task, so the women and men who make up the State Attorney General Office will continue to do their best to guarantee justice and fight impunity," the Attorney General’s Office said in a statement.

The Attorney General’s Office not only prosecutes crimes but is also the lead investigative agency in the state.

Baja California Gov. Marina del Pilar Ávila on Friday recognized Carpio’s tenure and said she would send a list of candidates to Congress to choose the next attorney general.

"Carpio’s work at the helm of the Baja California Attorney General’s Office has revitalized its institutional capacities while generating others that will allow for better investigations for the benefit of society, a legacy that will last for generations to come," she said in a statement.

Carpio’s resignation comes unexpectedly. A day earlier he held a press conference to talk about recent homicide cases in the state.

Carpio was elected by Congress in January 2022 for a six-year term.

The murders of Tijuana journalists Margarito Martínez and Lourdes Maldonado took place at the beginning of his term. In both cases, the men who carried out the killings have been sentenced, but not the individuals suspected of ordering the acts. .

The office under his leadership also identified a suspect in what Carpio has described as the serial killings of female sex workers in Tijuana. A Los Angeles County man was arrested and is awaiting extradition to Mexico to face charges in at least one of those killings.

CNN Poll: Americans Rank Biden's Open Border Among Top Problems this Year
2022-02-13
[Breitbart] American adults say illegal immigration at the United States border under President Joe Biden is among the top problems facing the nation this year, a CNN poll reveals.

The poll, released on Thursday, reveals that Americans — including swing voters — consider securing the U.S. border the third most important problem that Congress and Biden should address this year.

The issue of illegal immigration at the border ranks behind reducing inflation and protecting voting rights for American citizens.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas agreed, in a closed-door meeting last month, that illegal immigration is “worse now than … ever.”

Among registered Republicans and self-described conservatives, illegal immigration at the border is the top priority that Congress and Biden must address. Democrats and those who “lean Democrat,” in contrast, consider illegal immigration their last concern.

White working class Americans, those without a college degree, consider illegal immigration at the border and reducing inflation the two biggest problems facing the nation at the moment.

Non-college-educated Americans, of all races, see illegal immigration as the second highest priority just behind reducing inflation.

ACLU will represent woman with 'F*** Biden' yard signs
2021-07-28
[WashingtonExaminer] Two New Jersey residents who were previously ordered to remove anti-Joe Biden signage from their property will be represented by a local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, according to court filings from Saturday.

Homeowner Patricia Dilascio was ordered on July 15 by Roselle Park Municipal Court Judge Gary Bundy to remove three of 10 flags displayed on her property within a week or face $250-per-day fines despite some flags being owned by her daughter Andrea Dick. The signage featured profanities and insults such as "F*** Biden," "Joe Biden Sucks," "Socialism Sucks, Biden Blows," and "Don't Blame Me I Voted For Trump," among others...
fwiw, obscenity may be regulated but you have to have a lawful procedure to establish the 'when and where and in what manner' of content that is prohibited.
The same sentiments can be expressed without cussing, most assuredly. But what’s sauce for the Left’s Antifa/BLM ought to be sauce for the Right.

'Ridiculous': Judge hit for ordering Trump supporter to remove 'F**k Biden' sign from yard
2021-07-20
[BIZPACREVIEW] A municipal judge in New Jersey’s Roselle Park borough is facing condemnation and scorn for effectively violating a Trump supporter’s First Amendment rights because of a complaint reportedly made by the borough’s Democrat Party mayor.

That Trump supporter, Andrea Dick, has been displaying a slew of pro-Trump and profanely anti-Biden signs on the fence outside her mother’s home.

Or rather, she had been, up until Roselle Park Municipal Court Judge Gary Bundy issued a ruling last Thursday ordering her mother, Patricia Dilascio, to remove the signs containing profanity within a week or face a $250/day fine.

According to NJ.com, the judge argued that the profanity violates a borough ordinance, § 3-8, that explicitly states that homeowners are barred from displaying "any obscene material, communication or performance or other article or item which is obscene within the Borough."

Obscenity is defined by the ordinance as anything that "appeals to the prurient interest," "depicts or describes in a patently offensive way sexual conduct," "depicts or exhibits offensive nakedness" or "lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value."

Bill Cosby's Conviction Vacated - Cosby Released
2021-07-01
[Epoch Times] The Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned Bill Cosby’s sexual assault conviction, and he was released from a Pennsylvania state prison just hours later.

Pennsylvania Department of Corrections confirmed Cosby was released at around 2:30 p.m. ET, according to a tweet from the agency. Reporters on the scene said they saw the actor and comedian leave the facility and was being driven away in a white vehicle shortly afterward.

In an opinion (pdf) vacating his conviction, the Supreme Court court wrote that it found an agreement with a previous prosecutor had prevented the 83-year-old from being charged in the case.
So it's like prosecutorial misconduct?
Bruce Castor, who was the district attorney in the 2004 case, "determined that a prosecution would be frustrated because there was no corroborating forensic evidence and because testimony from other potential claimants against Cosby likely was inadmissible under governing laws of evidence," the Supreme Court wrote on Wednesday.
But that was in 2004. Cosby was convicted in 2015, thereby making up for OJ.

Misinformation, Disinformation, and Lies
2020-05-23
[American Thinker] It is obvious that people cannot make a serious judgment about anything if the information available provides only half of the truth and not the rest, or if the media present stories in a way that makes it difficult to tell the truth, or if the media express only one side of a disputed issue, or if, as Daniel Boorstin argued, an "image" is presented as a replica of reality.

Misinformation may spread if no clear official information is present. The underlying problem is that there is no simple way to prevent that spread, nor is there a single root cause behind it. Different motives and goals contribute to that spread and to the discussion of the policies, competition, and legitimacy of public authorities. The internet has brought important changes in how information is spread and how communication occurs. What is more certain is that prominent public figures play a considerable role in that the spread has regrettably been shown in the context of discussing the responsibility and activity of officials to deal with the pandemic, COVID-19, such as the transmission and the accuracy of reported mortality rates in various countries.

A difficult problem is that much of the misinformation is not completely fabricated, but is the result of spin. There is no simply way to prevent misinformation, and there is no single root cause for the appearance of misinformation, and there are different motives for it. Yet it is evident that prominent public figures play a large role in formulating and spreading information, as in the present case about COVID-19. Attempts to check statements about actions or policies of public authorities are difficult, since they are spread not only in the media, but also in emails, private channels, and above all online. According to one survey by the Institute for the Study of Journalism, misinformation accounts for 87% of social media interactions while fabricated ones amount to about 12%.

In the modern age it may be difficult to ascertain the truth with the overabundance of information and the mix of half-truths, falsehoods, and state sponsored information. Misinformation can take different forms. The most frequent is misleading content, containing true information but with altered details in ways that make it false. Another form is to describe images as something different from what they are.

There is no direct connection, but it is engaging to note the interest of fiction-writers in misinformation, disinformation, and even lies regarding themselves. They may be taking advantage of the fact that human beings are often fascinated by evil and fear of the unknown, and are titillated by accounts of extreme behavior. What else can explain the years spent by Truman Capote, writing in In Cold Blood, the story of the murder of a family in Holcomb, Kansas in 1959, or the obsession of Stephen Sondheim with Sweeny Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street?.

Bestselling French writer Stéphane Bourgoin, author of more than 40 books of fiction, many about serial killers, has recently confessed he faked his biography and invented his own experience, including his job as a professional football player and the story of his wife who was murdered in 1976 by a serial killer who confessed to the crime. But he was not a ball player, nor did the "wife" exist, but was a fiction drawn from a young woman he had met briefly in a bar in Daytona Beach, Florida. This story is even more strange because the young woman was in fact later murdered, in 1975, by a serial killer. Bourgoin claimed he had trained with the FBI in Quantico, Virginia and had interviewed 70 serial killers, including Ted Bundy and Charles Manson. His explanation for his lies and the disinformation was that he was not really loved, but he had now arrived "at a balance sheet time."
