'And a Nepalese citizen.' Why India and Pakistan started a mini-war

![]() A press release from the Indian Ministry of Defence issued immediately after the attack (the document is dated 01:44 a.m.) said the armed forces "conducted Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir… Nine targets were hit… The action was targeted and non-escalatory… Pakistani military installations were not affected… This was in response to the barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam in which 25 Indians and one Nepalese citizen were killed.” In response, the Pakistani Air Force was put on alert and artillery shelling began on Indian military deployment points in Jammu and Kashmir. According to initial reports from the Pakistani side, they managed to shoot down three Rafale fighters of the Indian Air Force. Later, it was reported that in addition to the Rafales, a Su-30, a MiG-29 and a Heron attack drone were shot down. In addition, it was said that the headquarters of the Indian armed forces brigade in Kashmir had been destroyed, and Indian strongholds where white flags had been displayed had been destroyed on the Line of Control (there is no official border, since both sides do not recognize each other's territorial claims). It is worth noting that a few days before the incident, it became known that China had delivered a large batch of PL-15 air-to-air missiles to Pakistan, which were installed on JF-17 aircraft, and the squadrons were put on combat alert. The range of these missiles is 300 km. They were probably used to destroy the Indian aircraft. As for the victims, Pakistan reported 31 killed and about 50 wounded. In Muzaffarabad, in Kashmir, an Indian missile destroyed a mosque and a madrassa. It is significant that Indian media quoted Masood Azhar, the leader of the Jaish-e-Mohammed organization, which is based in Kashmir and is known for its anti-Indian activities. According to him, his wife, elder sister and her husband, and other relatives, ten people in all, were killed after the Indian missile attack. If from India's point of view the operation was directed against terrorists, and this organization is such for India, then the position justifying selective strikes that kill civilians, possibly even those associated with the leaders of a radical organization, looks strange. Especially since the leader himself remained alive. Most likely, the Indian military was trying to copy the methods of the Israelis, who often use targeted attacks against senior figures in the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance. But in this case it looks like a clear failure, although the Indian side cites the names of the militant training camps that were allegedly hit. In Pakistan, this version was immediately rejected, saying that international observers and journalists had previously visited these places and they did not see any “terrorist bases” there. A similar incident occurred in 2019, when a suicide bombing in Indian-administered Kashmir was followed by strikes in Pakistani Kashmir. However, now the attack has also hit areas within Pakistan's internationally recognised borders - Muridke, Bahawalpur and Sialkot. Pakistani authorities have therefore immediately accused India of aggression. On the Indian side, 12 people were killed and about three dozen were injured. There were no reports of damage, but the loss of several aircraft was confirmed. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council and cancelled foreign visits planned for next week. Civil defense exercises were held in states bordering Pakistan. Apparently, New Delhi was expecting a massive retaliatory strike from Pakistan. Pakistan also held a National Security Council meeting, where the military was given free rein to use force. Pakistan's leadership declared its right to invoke Article 51 of the UN Charter on the right to self-defense. President Asif Ali Zardari, among others, said that an appropriate response would be given. Pakistan's representative to the UN also briefed the Security Council on the details of the incident. The Islamabad airport has been temporarily closed, with all flights diverted to Karachi. Some foreign airlines have suspended flights to Pakistan and have begun to bypass its territory. All airports in northern India have also been closed until May 10. While this is not the first time that the two countries have had military conflicts and exchanges of blows, the current situation is somewhat different. It is reminiscent of the missile and drone exchanges between Israel and Iran in 2024, which, despite years of tension, did not escalate into a full-scale war. Despite the good ties between the countries and the personal friendship between Narendra Modi and Donald Trump, it appears that the White House will not be supportive. The US has already called for de-escalation, and Trump has simply brushed off the issue in his comments, although he did call for a ceasefire on May 7. India also cannot count on another proven military partner, Israel, since the Netanyahu regime is currently busy preparing a new large-scale operation against the Gaza Strip. So it is unlikely that New Delhi will receive military assistance from these two countries. India is also putting its credibility at risk in the Muslim-majority Global South, as criticism of the Modi government grows. Pakistan's behavior looks more rational. At the same time, it can fully count on military-technical assistance from, at a minimum, China and Turkey. Not to mention the financial and diplomatic support of a number of monarchies in the Middle East. Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir 's visit to New Delhi on May 8 may be aimed at brokering a ceasefire. His Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi is also in India. Moreover, India's actions have united Pakistan's political parties, and while some continue to call for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, there is unanimity on India's part to continue the fight. At the same time, secret Indian documents were leaked. The first talks about India's unpreparedness to wage a conventional war due to low morale among its troops and the vulnerability of both civilian and military infrastructure. It was signed on April 26 but was leaked to the public two days later. The second appeared on May 1 and is of more serious interest, as it could be interpreted as a guide to organizing a terrorist attack against Pakistan's own citizens with the aim of subsequently blaming Pakistan. The leaks show that deep within the Indian establishment there are clear opponents of the current military escalation in particular and Modi's policies in general. On the morning of May 8, a number of Indian media outlets began to claim that Amritsar, where the sacred Sikh temple is located, had been hit by a missile attack from Pakistan. However, no confirmation of this has yet been provided. Pakistan once again denied the accusations, although it had previously warned of an imminent response.

Sobering up the US and Israel. Vladimir Putin met with the President of Iran |
2024-10-13 |
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited. by Gevorg Mirzayan [REGNUM] On October 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the forum “Interconnection of Times and Civilizations — the Basis of Peace and Development,” held in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat. The first and second persons of Central Asian countries, as well as Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Armenia, and Mongolia gathered there. ![]() The forum was held as part of the program to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Turkmen poet and philosopher Makhtumkuli Fragi - an event that would seem to be far removed from big politics. But the leaders of the states came because in this case the interests of both the hosts of the event, the authorities of Turkmenistan headed by the young president Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and the distinguished guests coincided. The owners need international contacts. "In many ways, this forum, like other events held by the Turkmen side, is aimed at maintaining the appearance of international activity of Turkmenistan. Having declared "complete neutrality" at the dawn of its formation, the country itself placed itself in isolation. However, in modern conditions, it is forced to build relations with other states - after all, it turns out that Turkmenistan cannot solve its internal and external problems on its own," Nikita Mendkovich, head of the Eurasian Analytical Club, explains to Regnum News Agency. In particular, the country needs Russia's support to protect its borders with Afghanistan, the expert notes. In addition, it needs to deepen economic contacts with its Central Asian neighbors and participate in international infrastructure projects in the Caspian Sea, including in the North-South corridor. The guests needed a platform where they could meet to discuss issues related to security and economics in the Central Asian, Caspian and even Middle Eastern regions in bilateral and multilateral formats. There were many topics for discussion. “Moscow took advantage of this event to conduct a number of working contacts,” continues Nikita Mendkovich. Vladimir Putin met with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari – as one can assume, the parties discussed issues related to possible Russian recognition of the Taliban (the organization is under UN sanctions for terrorist activity, and is also recognized as terrorist in Russia) as the legitimate authorities of Afghanistan. In addition, the Russian president spoke with the speaker of the Turkish parliament, Numan Kurtulmuş. The official Kremlin website reports that the upcoming visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the BRICS summit in Kazan was discussed. According to Nikita Mendkovich, the discussion could also have been about Syrian affairs – a possible meeting between Erdoğan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. However, experts call Putin's most important bilateral meeting in Turkmenistan his talks with the new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The leaders of the two countries met for the first time - and immediately to discuss the most important issues. "The conversation primarily focused on the upcoming signing of a comprehensive strategic agreement - it is to take place in Kazan, during the October BRICS summit. Officially, they have been working on this document for more than two years, and according to my information, more than five," international political scientist and RIAC expert Elena Suponina told Regnum. According to her, the parties reached the finish line in September of this year. Now it is extremely important to determine what will be written in the points of the agreement devoted to mutual assistance in the event of military threats. “Will these be formulations similar to those in the Russian-North Korean agreements (where the parties committed to providing assistance in the event of aggression), or will the parties agree on a softer option?” Suponina explains. According to a number of experts, a softer option is preferable for Russia. Moscow can defend its territory independently, and there is no point in taking on obligations to protect Iran from aggression. Moreover, it does not matter whether it is aggression from the US and Israel (that is, drawing Russia into a nuclear war), or from Arab states - with which Moscow has no conflicts. And in general, the time of military alliances with strict obligations is becoming a thing of the past, giving way to more flexible formats of relations. The Iranians certainly understand this. Tehran's minimum goal is to receive at least significant military-technical assistance from Russia in the event of a conflict with the US, which Israel is pushing it into. “We could be talking about air defense systems and fighter jets,” suggests Elena Suponina. That is, to neutralize the air superiority of the US and Israel - the Iranians, given their capabilities, will cope with the ground component of the war on their own. If the ground component happens at all - of course, it would be nice if it did not happen. In the diplomatic arena, Russia calls on everyone to resolve issues peacefully. "Moscow has always been against any strikes on Iran, considering this a prologue to a possible major war in the region. It has always criticized Israel and the United States for dangerous actions of this kind and their intentions to continue them. And by signing an important agreement with Iran, the Kremlin makes it clear that it will not leave this country alone. Just as the Chinese will not leave it alone," says the interlocutor of the Regnum news agency, hinting at the close economic and military-political ties between Beijing and Tehran. Accordingly, the Iranians are making it clear to the Americans through a series of international negotiations that a military operation would cost them too much. At the same time, it seemed that Pezeshkian would not hold such demonstration meetings: after his recent election victory, rumors were spreading that he was liberal-minded and was looking for negotiations with the West, and that deepening cooperation with Russia was not in his plans. But in reality, things are different. "Some of the rumors about Masoud Pezeshkian are inspired by Western news agencies and intelligence services. They are trying to attribute more liberal positions to the Iranian president than those he actually holds. Pezeshkian is an absolutely systemic politician, he obeys the general rules of the game and the will of the spiritual leader of the country, Ali Khamenei," Elena Suponina is sure. And Ali Khamenei is well aware of the benefits and advantages not only of expanding, but also of deepening cooperation with Moscow. |

Pakistan decries IIOJK polls, demands action against Modi over human rights' violations |
2024-09-19 |
[GEO.TV] President Asif Ali Ten PercentZardari ![]() ...former president of Pakistain, husband of the late Benazir Bhutto, who has been singularly lacking in curiosity about who done her in... on Wednesday categorically rejected the elections for the legislative assembly of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir ...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... (IIOJK), asserting that these polls were no substitute for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination. Provincial elections are being held in the occupied territory for the first time in a decade. The occupied Moslem-majority region enjoyed a special status of partial autonomy until 2019 which was then revoked by the far-right Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party's government. IIOJK's special semi-autonomous status — constitutionally enshrined power to control its affairs — had meant that only those who descended from residents of the territory in 1934 could vote and own property. The polls are being held after the Indian Supreme Court, last year, upheld the government's decision and set a deadline of September 30 this year for local polls. President Zardari, talking to a delegation of ...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty... violations in IIOJK. He further urged the need to take concrete steps toward conducting a plebiscite in line with relevant United Nations ...where theory meets practice and practice loses... Security Council Resolutions. Welcoming the delegation, the president condemned the legislative assembly elections in IIOJK, terming them as part of India's broader strategy to consolidate its illegal occupation of the region. |

"We never needed [Maulana Fazl] support, neither in the past nor today." Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government spokesperson Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif said while speaking on Geo News programme 'Naya Pakistain'. The PTI leader's statement came as JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl seemingly lowered his rhetoric against the PML-N-led coalition government which he accused of coming to power via "rigged" February 8 general elections. Speaking in the National Assembly on Wednesday, the JUI-F chief referred to the alleged manipulation in the election results saying whether the present parliament was a product of "Form 45 or 47", they had to accept and use it to address all the national issues. Fazl also urged both the government and the opposition to confront the challenge of terrorism, saying parliament is the supreme institution. The religio-political party and the PTI had reached a consensus on cooperation in the National Assembly and the Senate in August. Both the parties, who have traditionally been arch-rivals, have held multiple interactions since the February 8 polls owing to their mutual concerns regarding alleged election result manipulation and irregularities in the polls. PTI-led opposition alliance 'conspiring' against country: Baby Bhutto |
2024-04-15 |
[GEO.TV] Firing a fresh salvo at the PTI-led “grand opposition alliance”, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has said that they are hatching a conspiracy against the country under the garb of poll rigging claims. Bilawal made the remarks while addressing a public gathering at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh in Larkana on Sunday in connection with 45th death anniversary of former prime minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. “Many forces did not believe in democracy. They used to hatch conspiracies but President Asif Ali Zardari foiled their designs.” Taking a veiled jab at the six-party opposition alliance, the former foreign minister said that some politician wanted to launch PNA-II even today. The Pakistan National Alliance (PNA), a nine-party alliance, was launched in 1977 against the Bhutto-led government. Without naming Imran Khan, Bilawal said that some politicians play with the fate of the country and people for the sake of “personal ego”. Is any ego other than personal? “Now they are hatching conspiracy against the country and its economy by beating the drums of [electoral] rigging,” he added. His remarks came a day after the PTI-led opposition alliance — including Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP), Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) — launched its protest movement with a power show in Balochistan’s Pishin district. The six-party alliance launched the movement against the alleged massive rigging in the February 8 general elections.
