Mohammad Afzal, bodyguard to Minister of Defense committed suicide: Saleh

[KhaamaPress] Amrullah Saleh, First Vice President said Mohammad Afzal, bodyguard to Minister of Defense, who was found dead at home with his son was not assassinated but did away with himself.

According to the statement, there are rumors that the murders of Afzal also known as Sultan, and his son were not assassinated, but the officials referred it to a suicidal case.

According to the sources, he had family issues and has not been on duty for a long time.

The incident happened on Saturday night, inside Afzal’s apartment.

According to the reports Afzal worked as Driver for Defense Minister, Asadullah Khalid.

But the ministry has not yet commented on his duty.

ANDSF Conducts 96% of Operations Independently: Khalid

[ToloNews] Asadullah Khalid, the nominee for the Ministry of Defense, said the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) are conducting 96% of their operations independently, referring to concerns about a possible withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

Khalid said that the Afghan forces receive air support from international forces when they are in need, bud added that "their land operations are conducted independently."

Khalid said he has three priorities and one of them is improving the security of the country’s highways. He also mentioned that another priority is to reduce the costs of the military without cutting their capability.

Khalid said the people should not worry about the withdrawal of international troops from the country. "It's also possible that the number of foreign troops might increase in Afghanistan," he said.

"Afghan forces have retaken nine districts (from the Taliban) and they have freed 700 Afghan security force members from Taliban prisoners," Khalid said.

He said the Defense Ministry has planned to create "Ranger" military units in the coming year that would operate under Army corps in various parts of the country in order to reduce pressure on Afghan commandos.

The government of India handed over 600,000 tablets to Afghanistan in a bid to help the Afghan authorities cure the patients of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

"In a series of offerings of critical drugs, India sent 100,000 paracetamol and 500,000 hydroxychloroquine tablets to #Afghanistan through Ariana Airlines today. This is in addition to the 1st consignment of wheat India shipped earlier to bolster food security. Heartfelt thanks!" Tahir Qadiry, Afghanistan’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi said in a Twitter post.

This comes as global demand for the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine had boosted over the last few weeks after some studies showed that it helped to reduce the viral load in Covid-19 patients, according to Hindustan Times.

The attack on the Dubai wedding hall was one of the deadliest incidents this solar year in Kabul, with more than 80 civilians, including women and kiddies, killed, and more than 180 injured.

"Explosions and suicide kabooms were very high, and the civilian and military casualties were also very high," said Attiqullah Amarkhail, former military officer.

The Ministry of Defense said that in addition to launching dozens of military operations, re-capturing ten districts from the Taliban has been one of the most important military missions.

"Over the past solar year, the Taliban were prevented from overtaking government-controlled areas, while the Afghan army succeeded in bringing 50 percent of the country's territory under their (government) control," said Asadullah Khalid, acting defense minister.

The Independent Human Rights Commission said there has been a three percent decrease in violence over the past solar year, but it was still one of Afghanistan's bloodiest years.

The commission said that in this year 10,846 civilians killed and maimed.

According to the commission, among 10,846 killed and maimed, more than 2,797 civilians, including women and kiddies, were killed and 8,049 were maimed in various incidents this year.

Sources said that Kunduz Police Chief Manzoor Stanekzai was maimed in the earth-shattering kaboom.

Nasrat Rahimi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior said an explosion took place in the center of Kunduz city at around 6 pm local time, when the Police Chief of Kunduz was briefing reporters.

Reports indicate that the explosion also killed Syed Sarwar Hussaini, the spokesperson of Kunduz Police Headquarters.

[KhaamaPress] The security officials have shared a new video which purportedly shows the Afghan Special Forces engaging Taliban militants in a heavy firefight in Kunduz city.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that the Taliban are fleeing the city after coming under intense airstrikes and ground raids.

The 217th Pamir Corps said in a statement that the Taliban militants launched the attack at around 1:10 am local time.

The statement further added that the security forces have repelled the Taliban attacks in various parts of the city.

Furthermore, the 217th Pamir Corps said the security forces are conducting the clearance operations slowly in a bid to prevent civilian casualties.

Meanwhile, the 217th Pamir Corps said the security forces hvae also conducted airstrikes in Zakhil, Pul-e Shinwari, Kala Gaw and Qahwa Khana which have killed 26 Taliban militants.

The 217th Pamir Corps also added that the airstrikes have wounded at least 14 Taliban militants as well.

[KhaamaPress] The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the acting defense minister Asadullah Khalid and acting interior minister Massoud Andarabi visited Kunduz city earlier today amid Taliban attack earlier today.

The Interior Ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi shared the photos of the two top security and defense officials who visited the security and defense forces in Kunduz city, accompanied by Gen. Scott Miller, the commander of the U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan.

The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS) earlier said in a statement that the NDS forces together with the 905th Unity of the National Directorate of Security launched joint efforts to repulse the Taliban attack in Kunduz city.

The statement further added that the security forces launched joint ground and air raids in Kala Gaw, Pul-e Shinwari, Qahwa Khana and Ali Khel areas of the city.

Furthermore, the National Directorate of Security said the security forces killed 35 Taliban militants including Kamil, one of the commanders of the Red Unit of Taliban.
