Former Mexican Governor Sends Letter to Trump Over Alleged Cartel Connections of Mexico's New Consul in Miami |
2025-02-13 |
[Breitbart] A former Mexican governor sent a series of letters to U.S. President Donald J. Trump, warning him about the alleged cartel connections of Mexico’s new consul in Miami. In the letters, the politician warned Trump to have the U.S. Department of State and the National Security Council properly check the proposed diplomat due to his questionable background. In the letters, which Breitbart News Foundation received a copy of, former Chiapas Governor Williams Oswaldo (Willy) Ochoa claimed that another former governor, now the newly appointed Mexican consul for Miami, is a danger to the citizens of Florida and Chiapas. Ochoa, who served as state and federal congressman for the state of Chiapas in Mexico and briefly served as its governor, claimed that allowing Rutilio Escandon Cadenas to serve as a consul would grant diplomatic protection to an individual with concerning ties to organized crime. In his letter, he claimed that during Escandon’s gubernatorial term from 2018 to 2024, “Chiapas became a lawless land where massive migration overwhelmed the state’s security, unleashing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.” Ochoa claimed that during Escandon’s tenure, individuals with ties to the terror groups Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, and Colombia’s FARC guerrillas were able to transit through Chiapas on their way to the United States. According to Ochoa, Escandon’s ties and favoritism to criminal organizations helped turn the state into a battleground between the major cartels in Mexico. The violence displaced more than 15,000 individuals who were forced to flee their homes due to the constant shootouts, murders, and kidnappings by drug cartels. Escandon hails from Mexico’s MORENA Party, the same party as President Claudia Sheinbaum and her predecessor, former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Mexico is currently trying to avoid facing a series of tariffs from the Trump administration over their failure to stop drug cartels and human smuggling. Earlier this year, the Trump White House accused Mexico’s government of working with cartels as they prepared to impose a 25 percent tariff. The measure was delayed after Sheinbaum promised to send 10,000 National Guardsmen to the border, Breitbart News reported. |

Mexican workers set up tent city to house deportees from US |
2025-01-26 |
[BBC] In the shadow of a vast crucifix, labourers and construction workers in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez are building a small city of their own. A tent city. On the old fairgrounds, beneath an altar constructed for a mass by Pope Francis in 2016, the Mexican government is preparing for thousands of deportees they expect to arrive from the United States in the coming weeks. Juarez is one of eight border locations along the 3,000-kilometre-long (1,900 miles) border where Mexico is getting ready for the anticipated influx. As well as protection from the elements, the deportees will receive food, medical care, and assistance in obtaining Mexican identity documents, under a deportee-support programme which President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration calls "Mexico Embraces You". "Mexico will do everything necessary to care for its compatriots and will allocate whatever is necessary to receive those who are repatriated," said the Mexican Interior Minister, Rosa Icela Rodriguez, on the day of Trump's inauguration. For her part, President Sheinbaum has stressed her government will first attend to the humanitarian needs of those returning, saying they will qualify for her government's social programmes and pensions, and will immediately be eligible to work. She urged Mexicans to "remain calm and keep a cool head" about relations with President Trump and his administration more broadly – from deportations to the threat of tariffs. "With Mexico, I think we are going very well," said President Trump in a video address to the World Economic Forum in Davos this week. The two neighbours may yet find a workable solution on immigration which is acceptable to both – President Sheinbaum has said the key is dialogue and keeping the channels of communication open. Undoubtedly, though, she recognises the potential stress President Trump's declaration of an emergency at the US border could place on Mexico. An estimated 5 million undocumented Mexicans currently live in the United States and the prospect of a mass return could quickly saturate and overwhelm border cities like Juarez and Tijuana. It's an issue which worries Jose Maria Garcia Lara, the director of the Juventud 2000 migrant shelter in Tijuana. As he shows me around the facility, which is already nearing its capacity, he says there are very few places he can fit more families. "If we have to, we can maybe put some people in the kitchen or the library," he says. There comes a point, though, where there simply isn't any space left – and donations of food, medical supplies, blankets and hygiene products will be stretched too thin. "We're being hit on two fronts. Firstly, the arrival of Mexicans and other migrants who are fleeing violence," says Mr Garcia. "But also, we'll have the mass deportations. We don't know how many people will come across the border needing our help. Together, these two things could create a huge problem." Furthermore, another key part of Mr Trump's executive orders includes a policy called "Remain in Mexico" under which immigrants awaiting dates to make their asylum cases in a US immigration court would have to stay in Mexico ahead of those appointments. When "Remain in Mexico" was previously in place, during Trump's first term and under the presidency of Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in Mexico, Mexican border towns struggled to cope. Human rights groups also repeatedly denounced the risks the migrants were being exposed to by being forced to wait in dangerous cities where drug cartel-related crime is rife. This time around, Sheinbaum has made it clear that Mexico has not agreed to the plan and won't accept any non-Mexican asylum seekers from the US as they wait for their asylum hearings. Clearly, "Remain in Mexico" only works if Mexico is willing to comply with it. So far, it has drawn a line. |

US Border Agents Find RPGs & IEDs Near Southern Border Amid ‘Internal Alert’ Of ‘Drastic Escalation’ In Weaponry Used By Cartels |
2024-09-25 |
[ZeroHedge] An alarming battle between rival factions of the Sinaloa drug cartel has unfolded in northwestern Mexico, near the Biden-Harris administration's open southern border. The risk of spillover continues to increase as US Border Patrol agents recently discovered a weapons cache of shoulder-fired rocket launchers and improvised explosive devices just across from the Arizona border. "4 RPGs and 8 IEDs along with a large amount of ammo discovered in a scout site in Mexico just across the Arizona border which butts up against the Ajo area of operation within the Tucson Sector," NewsNation's border correspondent Ali Bradley wrote on X on Monday afternoon. Bradley said, "Border Patrol agents are being warned of the "drastic escalation" in weaponry being used on the south side of the border—According to an internal alert obtained through sources." "The fighting within the Sinaloa cartel, spilling over the border with multiple instances of armed men showing up to the southern border in the same area fleeing into the US for safety," she added. The eruption in violence near the border is infighting within the Sinaloa cartel, between groups known as the "Mayos" and the "Chapos". This first began when authorities arrested Joaquín Guzmán López and Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada in July. A tsunami of violence has since been reported, with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador blaming Zambada's arrest on the US. Last Friday, US Ambassador Ken Salazar rejected AMLO's claim, saying, "What is being seen in Sinaloa is not the fault of the United States," adding the US cannot be held responsible for "the massacres that we see in different places." What's clear is that cartels are quickly becoming militarized while the Biden-Harris team prided themselves with open southern borders. Meanwhile, Venezuelan prison gangs are running amok in the US, and a new bombshell hearing on Capitol Hill last week revealed Biden-Harris covered up the sharp rise in encounters with suspected terrorists on the border. Mexican President Pauses Relation with U.S. and Canadian Embassies over Criticism
2024-08-29 | |
[Breitbart] Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced that his country was pausing relations with the U.S. and Canadian embassies in Mexico following letters and statements. The president says diplomatic officials from both countries had spoken out against his proposed judicial reform, which calls for yearly open elections for all federal judges. “They have to learn to respect Mexico’s sovereignty,” Lopez Obrador said during his morning news conference. The Mexican politician said that he was not kicking them out of the country but simply pausing the relationship until they learned not to interfere with Mexico’s government. The move comes just days after U.S. Ambassador Ken Salazar and Canadian Ambassador Graeme Clark claimed that an independent judicial body was an important part of a Democracy and that having elected judges also opened the door to corruption and cartel influence. As Breitbart Texas reported, in his letter, Salazar pointed out that before being a diplomat, he had been in law practice for more than 25 years and, as a politician and diplomat, had seen how important an independent judiciary was.

Mexican Government Starts Treason Investigation Over U.S. Arrest of Top Sinaloa Boss |
2024-08-14 |
![]() In a prepared statement, Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office announced an investigation into the charges related to treason against the nation, illegal flights, illegal use of flight facilities, kidnapping, and immigration violations. The investigation comes after several differing versions emerged following the surprise arrest. As Breitbart Texas initially reported, on July 25, a plane landed in a private airport in New Mexico with Zambada and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, the son of El Mayo’s longtime associate El Chapo. The arrest caused much discontent in Mexico, where Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said the following day that his government had not played any role in the incident. The president demanded a full investigation to learn if the U.S. government had violated his country’s illusory sovereignty during the arrest. A bombshell report by Mexican journalist Juan Cedillo and British journalist Ioan Grillo revealed that Guzman Lopez and others had lured Zambada to a meeting, killed his bodyguards, kidnapped him, and taken him to the U.S. by force as part of an agreement with prosecutors, Breitbart Texas reported. The report also named a Mexican politician who had played a role in brokering the meeting and who has since been murdered. Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited. [Regnum] Nicaraguan authorities have finally severed diplomatic relations with Ecuador after police from the South American country forcibly entered the embassy in Quito to detain former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas. The Nicaraguan government announced this on Saturday, April 6. “After the unthinkable and reprehensible actions committed tonight in Quito... our decisive and irrevocable condemnation is translated into a sovereign decision to sever all diplomatic relations with the government of Ecuador,” the Nicaraguan newspaper El 19 quoted the government press service as saying. The Nicaraguan authorities also expressed solidarity and words of support to Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who also decided to suspend diplomatic relations with Ecuador. As Regnum reported, on April 5, Mexico agreed to grant political asylum to the former Vice President of Ecuador, Jorge Glas. Before that, Glas spent five years in prison on charges of bribery and criminal conspiracy. At the end of 2023, a court in Ecuador sentenced the former vice president to six years in a corruption case, but Glas took refuge in the Mexican embassy in Quito. The next day, the head of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Barcena, reported that several diplomats were injured during the storming of the country's embassy in Ecuador. Barcena called the past a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention. Bodies of 8 Chinese Migrants Float into Mexican Beach After Boat Capsizes |
2024-04-03 |
[Breitbart] Authorities in Mexico confirmed that eight bodies that floated onto a beach over the weekend those of Chinese migrants. The group is believed to have drowned while being moved further into the country after entering from Guatemala. The incident began on Friday on the coast of Oaxaca in the area known as Istmo de Tehuantepec, when several bodies washed ashore at Vicente Beach. The bodies were that of seven women and one man. Another man who was in the boat managed to survive and was undergoing medical care. Over the weekend, the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office released a short statement confirming that the bodies were those of Chinese migrants. Authorities claimed that the group had left the Mexican border city of Tapachula, Chiapas, on a raft on Thursday. Along the journey, the boat capsized. Since then, Mexican authorities revealed that they have been in contact with Chinese officials in an attempt to identify and repatriate the bodies. The drowning comes as the immigration issue has sparked much controversy in Mexico since President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador recently said in an interview with 60 Minutes that he was willing to solve the migrant crisis if the United States would pay billions each year. Currently, there is a migrant caravan of Central American migrants moving through Mexico on their way north. As Breitbart Texas has reported, those migrants are being escorted by Mexican authorities. |

Trump Responds to Mexican President's 'List of Demands' to Joe Biden |
2024-04-02 |
![]() Trump called out the "lack of respect" foreign leaders have for President Joe Biden on Sunday after Obrador demanded that the United States send Mexico $20 billion a year in taxpayer money to Latin America and the Caribbean to address so-called "root causes" of illegal immigration. The 2024 presidential frontrunner insisted that he wouldn’t give the Mexican president so much as "ten cents." "He said he wants $10 billion essentially just to talk, $10 billion to talk, and that's come out since, and no, that wouldn't happen with me, with the wall," Trump told Fox News host Brian Kilmeade when asked if it was reasonable for Obrador to dictate American policy. During an interview with 60 Minutes, the foreign president stated that Mexico will not shut down its border until the Biden Administration changes its policy on Cuba and Venezuela. When Trump was in office, foreign leaders did not dare pull such a bold move— according to the former president. "It's very simple: lack of respect for the president. They would never say that to me. They would never say before we even talk. They want $10 billion a year, Mexico just asked for $10 billion a year. They would never ask it. I wouldn't give them 10 cents," Trump said. Obrador insisted that he controls a significant portion of the southern border that has been abandoned by the Biden Administration. He acknowledged that his relationship with Trump was majority productive other than the border wall being a sore subject for the two leaders. In January, Obrador demanded that Biden halt the surge of illegal immigrants, lift existing sanctions on Cuba and Venezuela, grant legal status to Mexican illegal immigrants in the U.S., as well as send the countries $20 billion annually. He insisted that the massive influx of illegal immigrants coming into the U.S. will not stop until the Biden Administration meets its list of demands. The Mexican president claimed that Biden commanded him to "control the flow of migration"— which he did— resulting in illegal entries dropping by 50 percent in January. However, those numbers spiked again in February. In December alone, nearly 250,000 immigrants illegally crossed the southern border. Trump warned that if there isn’t a leadership change in the upcoming November election, then "we're not going to have a country anymore." "The most important day in the history of our country is going to be November 5th. Our country is going bad, and it's going to be changed on November 5th, and if it's not changed, we're not going to have a country anymore," Trump added. |

Megagangs against the state. Why didn't the Kazan boys become a megagang? |
2024-01-16 |
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited. by Dmitry Taratorin [REGNUM] In Ecuador, the local underworld has challenged the official authorities. And declaring itself as a real alternative force, it requires “recognition.” This doesn't happen very often in Latin America. At one time, the legendary drug lord Pablo Escobar actually declared war on the Colombian government. He was killed in the end. But he showed that “it was possible.” In Mexico, the bloody confrontation has been going on for years. One of the most striking and scandalous examples of the demonstration of the power of drug cartels happened not so long ago. The “Battle of Culiacan” took place on October 17, 2019. Then the military arrested the son of the head of the Sinaloa cartel, Guzman Lopez. But the response to this was immediately full-fledged hostilities - hundreds of militants attacked government and army targets using armored vehicles, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns. When the bandits took several hostages and began to threaten the neighborhood where military families lived, the authorities backed down. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador ordered the release of Guzman Lopez. At the time it seemed like a sign of weakness. But exactly a year ago, Lopez was arrested again and sent to a bunk in the Altiplano maximum security prison. What is the reason for such power and audacity of the Latin American underworld? Of course, it is not only and not so much the fault of hot blood, but above all the enormous resources that are at their disposal thanks to drugs. These two factors, plus the social problems of the continent, gave rise to such a phenomenon as cartels. But they should not be confused with the mafia, and it, in turn, with such a phenomenon as megagangs. And although they all actively interact (primarily on the basis of the transit and sale of drugs), these phenomena have different genesis. And it is worth understanding it in order to understand when and under what circumstances they acquire such power that they risk waging wars with states. How they themselves become quasi-states. And why, for example, the Kazan boys would never become a mafia, but they could easily become megagangs. In the 90s, a horror story called “Russian Mafia” became popular in the West. But, in fact, it did not exist and could not exist. The Russian underworld was initially very unique. To understand its nature, it is worth turning to “Kolyma Tales” by Varlam Shalamov. In his time, thieves were a completely antisocial caste. If we take the Sicilian Mafia or the Neapolitan Comorra, the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta or even the Japanese Yakuza, then these are alternative forms of socialization, and not at all a complete denial of the generally accepted human, as in the Russian case. The mafia does not draw such a sharp line between itself and the world of “suckers” (frayers in the Shalamov period) or “chushpans” in the Kazan version. On the contrary, it acts as an alternative to the state institution for the establishment of order. She grows out of the Family. And this is very typical for Italy. Until recently, the Yakuza generally had official offices. And they represented a kind of “samurai matrix” in a collapsed form and adapted to modern times. The thieves, according to Shalamov, are “not people” at all. At the same time, it is extremely characteristic that they call themselves “people.” From which it clearly follows that others are not considered as such. The thieves, according to Shalamov, are a “damned order.” They are hostile to all social institutions, including the family. They view suckers as completely alien, as pure food supply. And the state for them is an absolute enemy. That is why the famous “bitch war” happened, when the thieves who took part in the Great Patriotic War, as soon as they again found themselves in places not so remote, were harshly charged by their former colleagues for treason to the “order,” calling them “bitches.” But it never occurred to anyone to charge the legendary Mafia boss Salvatore (Lucky) Luciano for actively facilitating the landing of American troops in Sicily in 1943. The logic of the Mafia was simple - Mussolini persecuted its members very harshly, so why not contribute to his overthrow. But the Mafia, in principle, precisely because of its “family” genesis, does not see anything catastrophic in its interaction with the authorities (not only its corrupt members, but with its institutions). After all, Cosa Nostra (the name of the mafia in the States) is translated from Italian simply as “our business.” This is a kind of family business. In Sicily and the southern regions of Italy, criminal communities acted as substitutes for the state due to its inability to control certain regions and/or zones of human activity. Everything was different with us. Beginning with Peter the Great, the state sought complete control. Zones where there would be space for the formation of some semblance of a mafia simply did not arise. Therefore, by the way, initially the word “thief” in Rus' meant a rebel, a person who went against the state system itself and everyone who is loyal to it. And the one who simply steals was called a “thief.” Mega gangs are another matter. Here they could theoretically have developed in the 90s. A couple of decades earlier, they began to appear in the United States. The most serious ones are in Los Angeles. The prefix mega indicates that the gang has more than 10 thousand members. There they consist mainly, again, of Latinos and blacks, between whom there are permanent wars. However, there are also white ones. The most famous is the “Aryan Brotherhood”, which arose as an intra-prison association, but has long since acquired serious influence outside. However, this is a dynamic process - someone’s star rises in the criminal sky, and someone else’s falls. But it is characteristic that most of the megagangs were formed on the basis of street gangs, from guys “from the area”, just as in the case of the boys from the most popular series of last year. Many people even “sew on” it in about the same way, if not tougher. For example, in Mara Salvatrucha (one of the largest and most brutal mega-gangs) this is called a “jump in”, when brutal blows are rained down on the newcomer from all sides for a period of time determined by the elders. Mara Salvatrucha was originally created by immigrants from El Salvador. But now, when, according to various estimates, there are from 50 to 100 thousand people in it and it operates in several countries, there is no need to talk about monoethnicity. And here we come to the important difference between such structures and the same mafia. Megaband is a new identity. Mara Salvatrucha's code of honor is simple: "You live for God and Mother, and you die for the Gang." So, why didn’t “Universam”, “Hadi Taktash” or “Tyap-Lyap” reach the same level? Fortunately for ordinary Russian citizens, they simply didn’t have time. To form a megagang, you need a special breeding ground: a ghetto atmosphere, a lack of real social elevators and trust in authorities, a large number of passionate boys, plus a resource for development and growth (most often drugs). And the first four components were adjusted for Soviet specifics. A resource in the form of money from “protected” businesses also appeared in the early 90s. And the state at that time practically “gone away.” But unlike Latin America or Italy, the power vacuum was very short-lived. The state returned too quickly, interrupting the process of building criminal empires and forming alternative identities. However, this does not mean that the threat has been removed once and for all. The notorious AUE (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation) has all the prerequisites and generic characteristics in order to, in the right case, develop into a fan of mega-gangs. Perhaps this seems fantastic to residents of megacities who did not live in the 90s. Therefore, the story of the “boys” Marat and Andrey is just a well-constructed film script for them. And the events in Ecuador are simply something from a completely different bloody and exotic life. But the Chief Prosecutor of the Holy Synod, Konstantin Pobedonostsev, once told the writer Dmitry Merezhkovsky in order to dispel his illusions: “Russia is an icy desert through which a dashing man wanders.” The phrase may seem overly pessimistic. However, let's reformulate it slightly: when a power vacuum is formed in Russia, it gives rise to an icy desert, from which a dashing person emerges with the most evil intentions. Does this sound more realistic? |

Mexican Government Does Nothing as Gulf Cartel Sets Fire to Border Town
2023-11-11 | |
This seems familiar... [Breitbart] Mexican authorities have abandoned the residents of two towns in the central part of the border state of Tamaulipas despite terrorist attacks by the Gulf Cartel. Gunmen continued to set fire to buildings, abducted innocent victims, and shot up homes. The attacks began on Tuesday early morning when a convoy of at least 25 vehicles with cartel logos rolled into the towns of Abasolo and Jimenez in the central part of Tamaulipas. The vehicles had logos from the Metros faction of the Gulf Cartel, Cartel Jalisco New Generation, and Old School Zetas. Once the vehicles rolled in, they began torching several businesses, shooting up homes, painting graffiti on the walls, and they reportedly abducted various individuals out of their homes. Anonymous locals who spoke with Breitbart Texas revealed that Mexican authorities responded once the cartel gunmen left the area. The responders only helped put out the fires. Since then, authorities have not carried out any raids or enforcement operations in an attempt to target the gunmen responsible for the attacks. As Breitbart Texas reported, Tamaulipas Governor Americo Villarrea has allowed drug cartels to operate with impunity under his watch. Since his arrival to power late last year, the Gulf Cartel and the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas have largely been untouched by state police forces. Villarreal hails from Mexico’s ruling party, Morena, which, under the leadership of Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has benefited from illicit funds being funneled into their campaigns and also allowed criminal organizations to operate freely. As Breitbart Texas reported, Lopez Obrador claimed in 2018 that Mexico’s war on drugs was over. The Mexican president pushed a rhetoric of “Abrazos No Balazos” (Hugs Not Bullets), where his government has worried more about protecting the rights of cartel gunmen and claimed that the answer to crime was to promote social programs instead of using law enforcement agencies to fight them head-on.

Mexico begins busing immigrants from Guatemala to US border |
2023-10-04 |
[Washington Examiner] The Mexican government has begun busing immigrants in the southern part of the country north toward the United States, a move that will complicate the Biden administration's efforts to reduce illegal immigration. Under a new Mexican government initiative, transportation from north of the Guatemala-Mexico border is being provided to immigrants to ease the demand and pressure on public and private transportation systems. Approximately 400 immigrants waited for the government buses on Monday in the Oaxaca state in southern Mexico, according to Reuters. The government-run busing site was opened last week in response to as many as 1,000 immigrants gathering at a station in Juchitan daily, overwhelming operations and the site. Bus tickets range from $22 to $85 one-way, depending on the distance. Mexico's southern border has seen thousands crossing daily, mostly headed to the U.S. and bypassing Mexico. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Monday that 6,000 people were making their way across from Guatemala each day. Thousands of immigrants have hopped on freight trains headed north to get a free ride, but trains have been suspended in the past few weeks due to accidents involving those hitching rides. At the U.S.-Mexico border, the number of illegal immigrants arrested each day has topped 8,000 people per day during some days in September. |
