Jamaat gives strike call for February 5
2009-02-03
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed on Sunday gave a call for a shutter-down strike across the country on February 5 to express solidarity with people of Kashmir.

Addressing a news conference here at the residence of Mian Muhammad Aslam, Qazi said all the governments had failed on diplomatic fronts to highlight the Kashmir issue in its true spirit and to respond to India's propaganda in this connection. He thanked the successive governments for supporting the JI's stance of observing February 5 as the Kashmir Solidarity Day since 1990.

"I call upon the people all over the country to participate in the activities being organised to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people," he said. He said the government needed to review its Kashmir policy and give a befitting response to India for its worldwide

propaganda on the issue. He regretted that India had not moved an inch from its illegitimate stance while Pakistan had presented various options for the settlement of the dispute.

He said the Pakistan government should also explain the history of Kashmir to the world leaders and the youth. Qazi said the doors for any improvement in relations with India would open only once it accepted Kashmir as a disputed territory.

Pak Mujahideen should be allowed to fight in Palestine: Qazi
2009-01-19
The armed forces should permit Pakistani Mujahideen to fight in the war torn-area of Palestine in order to help their Palestinian brethren in their hour of need, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed has demanded. He was speaking at the "Palestinian March" organised on Sunday by the JI. The march started from the Quaid-e-Azam's mausoleum and ended at Tibet Centre.
He does a lot of eye-rolling and face-making in this speech ...
Ahmed also demanded that the government supply arms and ammunition to the Palestinians as well as send armed forces to the area to fight against Israel.
He's much braver when he's two thousand miles away from the fight ...
The march was organized in connection with the ongoing protests against Israeli aggression on Palestine and to express solidarity with Palestinians. Thousands of people marched from the JI headquarters, Idara Noor-e-Haq to Tibet Centre amidst tight security all around the route of the rally.

Barricades were placed on main Shahrah-e-Quaideen, while tankers were cross-parked on the road leading to Governor House. Despite Sunday, heavy traffic congestion was witnessed on Sharea Faisal as traffic was diverted to connecting arteries.

The protestors carried placards and banners, and shouted slogans against Israel and the US. Children wore headbands inscribed with the first Kalma and Jihad. They carried placards inscribed with "I hate US and Israel" and banners depicting hatred for the US, Israel and Western countries.

The participants carried Hamas banners, expressing solidarity with Hamas and the Palestinians. They also torched US and Israel flags, as well as an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. The emotionally-charged protestors also hurled shoes at portraits of Olmert and US president George Bush.

The JI Amir called for waging jihad against Israeli troops, saying that all the Muslims of the world should stand united against Israeli aggression. He demanded that the government part ways with the US and adopt pro-people policies to face external and internal challenges confronting the country.

He further said that Israel had accepted defeat by announcing a ceasefire. He vowed that the struggle of Muslims would continue till the independence of the first Qibla of Islam in Jerusalem. Ahmed also warned India against imposing war on Pakistan. It may be mentioned here that Israel declared its own unilateral ceasefire after three weeks of aggression that killed some 1,200 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

He also condemned the Organisation of Islamic Countries and the Arab League for remaining silent spectators on Israeli aggression against Palestine, and termed their silence as criminal negligence. "The entire world is protesting Israeli aggression but the Pakistan government has adopted a callous attitude while toeing the US policy," Ahmed said.

Haideri and Baloch try to save MMA from split
2007-10-08
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Punjab Ameer Liaquat Baloch are trying to save the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), which is on the verge of collapse after serious differences arose between JI Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman over the dissolution of the NWFP Assembly and en bloc resignations from the assemblies, Daily Times learnt here on Sunday. The JUI-F and JI are the biggest components of the five-party religious alliance.

Qazi, Fazl not on speaking terms: Sources said that MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed and MMA Secretary General Maulana Fazlur Rehman were not on speaking terms. Haideri and Baloch held a meeting to defuse the tension between the two leaders. The sources said that another meeting was expected in the next few days to resolve the issue. Haideri told Daily Times, “It is true that I have met with Baloch to resolve the crisis although the JI deserted the JUI-F on the issue of the NWFP Assembly’s dissolution.”

Opp will block BB's bid for power through 'backdoor': Qazi
2007-09-01
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed said on Friday that the opposition parties would block former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s way if she attempted to gain power through the ‘backdoor’.

Talking to reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid Mohabbat Khan, the JI Ameer, who is also the president of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), demanded the government appoint the Senate chairman as acting president in accordance with the Constitution and establish an independent election commission to hold fair and free elections. Qazi said that President General Pervez Musharraf’s policies had “demoralised the army” and he should either step down himself or be removed by the supreme court. The All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) had the option to resign en bloc in protest against General Musharraf’s re-election, he said.

Qazi condemns 'hooliganism' and 'indecency' on Basant
2006-03-13
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed condemned 'hooliganism' on Basant despite the kite flying ban and said all norms of decency were violated at the Asif Jah Haveli to please 'a so-called head of state'.

Addressing the concluding session of a one-day workshop of JI's Lahore Chapter members at Jamia Mosque in Mansoora on Sunday, he said General Pervez Musharraf's proposal to divide Kashmir into seven autonomous regions jointly controlled by India and Pakistan is a step towards 'united India' which would not be allowed by people on both sides of the Line of Control. He said 'anti-Pakistan forces' were trying to dismember the country and Musharraf was following a policy dictated by them.

He said American President George W Bush had clarified that the US was not against Islam but against Islamic extremism, and people were being threatened for adhering to the Islamic civilisation in the face of the Western culture's onslaught. The JI leader said the Pakistani constitution provided ample guarantee to safeguard Islamic values and enlightened moderation was not possible without amending the core of the constitution.

Govt working against Pakistan’s ideology. Qazi bitches.
2005-09-23
The government is working against Pakistan’s ideological foundation, said Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed, while addressing a JI Central Working Council meeting in Mansoorah on Wednesday. Ahmed said that President Gen Pervez Musharraf was blindly following the US agenda that nullified the justification of Pakistan’s creation and it would seriously endanger national security. The National Leaders’ Conference (NLC) held in Islamabad on August 29 had unanimously decided to launch a drive to remove President Musharraf and his aides from power, he said.

He said a “secret agreement” between Gen Musharraf and US President George Bush at Camp David had started to unveil. This agreement included halting the nuclear programme, giving up Pakistan’s principled stance on the Kashmir issue, recognising Israel, friendship with India and removing Quranic verses from the national syllabus, he said. Ahmed said the US had made its prime objective to change syllabi of all Muslim countries. “Washington is eradicating certain Quranic verses and Islamic teachings from the syllabi of some Arab countries after calling them hateful,” he said.

MMA will not let govt split religious parties' alliance: Qazi
2005-08-29
Jamaat-e-Islami will hold "National Leaders' Conference" in Islamabad on September 4 to discuss the country's socio-political situation. JI has already extended invitations to former presidents, politicians, retired judges and military personnel, clerics, newspaper editors, scholars, labour leaders and students.

JI Deputy Secretary General Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, MNA told reporters that issues pertaining to the country's solidarity, sanctity of the constitution, supremacy of parliament, crackdown on madrassas, an end to military rule, free and fair elections under an impartial election commissioner and rampant corruption will be the subject for discussion. Piracha said that he had already briefed Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Raja Zafarul Haq and Imran Khan about the agenda for the conference.

Earlier Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal President and JI Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed addressed a meeting of the newly-elected nazims, naib nazims and general councilors. He accused the government of trying to disintegrate the MMA but said the government would be thwarted in its attempt and the religious parties’ alliance would remain intact. Qazi said that parliament had been rendered powerless because of one man’s rule. Qazi said the government had exercised its influence to succeed it candidates in the elections. He said party-less elections pushed the country into chaos resulting in the killing of scores of people. Qazi claimed that the number of people killed in election violence was unprecedented in the country’s history.
