Report: ICC prosecutor pressured alleged victim to retract claims against him
2025-03-10 | |
[IsraelNationalNews] Karim Khan,
The report highlights that Khan’s alleged actions coincided with his pursuit of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. These charges, announced in May 2024, came just two weeks after he learned of the accusations against him, raising concerns over his ability to act impartially. Critics argue that his legal actions against Israel may be politically motivated, serving as a distraction from his personal scandal. Sources cited in the report indicate that Khan repeatedly attempted to convince his accuser to sign a letter disavowing her claims. His persistent efforts allegedly led the woman to flee the Netherlands, leaving her car at the airport and cutting off contact with her immediate family. This has raised further concerns about the ethical conduct of the ICC's top prosecutor and his handling of sensitive cases, including those involving Israel. Adding to the controversy, Khan’s close adviser, Mamadou Racine Ly, reportedly also pressured the woman to state she had no complaint, further calling into question the ICC's internal integrity. The report suggests that such behavior could undermine confidence in the ICC’s ability to conduct fair investigations, particularly regarding Israel’s actions in the ongoing conflict. Despite the allegations, Khan remains in his role, refusing to step aside even after direct pleas from senior ICC officials, including American lawyer Brenda Hollis, who leads the court’s Palestine investigation. His refusal to temporarily step down has raised fears that the ongoing investigation into his misconduct could be compromised, further damaging the credibility of the ICC's case against Israel. The controversy surrounding Khan has cast a shadow over the ICC's pursuit of Israeli leaders, with many questioning whether justice can be served impartially under his leadership. As the investigation into his actions unfolds, scrutiny over his motivations and the broader implications for Israel remains high. UN experts urge halt to violence against Ahmadis in Pakistan |
2024-07-26 |
![]() ...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks... experts on Thursday voiced grave concern at reports of surging discrimination and violence against Pakistain’s Ahmadi minority community, including extrajudicial killings and attacks on places of worship. The Ahmadiyya sect, considered heretics by fundamentalist groups, has been persecuted for decades in Pakistain but threats and intimidation have risen in recent years. "We are alarmed by ongoing reports of violence and discrimination against the Ahmadiyya community in Pakistain," said the nine independent experts, including the special rapporteurs on extrajudicial executions, on freedom of expression and on freedom of religion. "Urgent measures are necessary to respond to these The experts, who are appointed by the UN Human Rights Council but who do not speak on behalf of the United Nations, highlighted a number of specific incidents over recent months. Those included the extrajudicial killing of two Ahmadis in Saad Ullah Pur on July 8 and the killing on March 4 of the president of the Ahmadiyya community in Bahawalpur district. They also noted reports of an alarming number of attacks on Ahmadi places of worship and cemeteries since the beginning of the year, including some that had led to the serious injury of worshippers. The statement also highlighted a number of alleged arbitrary arrests of Ahmadi worshippers over religious holiday periods "to obstruct their participation in their religious practices." Ahmadis consider themselves Moslems, and their faith is identical to mainstream Islam in almost every way. But their belief that the movement’s founder Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was the "mahdi" or messiah has marked them as blasphemous unbelievers, particularly in Pakistain. There are around 500,000 Amadis in Pakistain according to their community leadership. The constitution has branded them non-Moslems since 1974, and a 1984 law forbids them from claiming their faith as Islamic or openly practicing Islamic rituals. "Ahmadis’ right to peacefully manifest their beliefs must be respected," the experts insisted, warning that "judicial harassment serves to normalize violence against Ahmadis by non-State actors." They welcomed Pakistain National Assembly’s adoption last month of a resolution urging federal and provincial governments to ensure the safety and security of all Pak citizens including religious minorities. But, they cautioned, "such good-faith efforts to counter discriminatory discourse will be ineffective unless they address its structural drivers, (including) blasphemy ![]() laws and discriminatory legal provisions." |

Israeli Air Force fighter jets pounded Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon on Sunday morning, the military said. According to the IDF, the targets in the village of Ramyeh included military buildings and other infrastructure belonging to the terror group. It said Hezbollah "operates from the area of the village, which is used as a terror center for the group to observe and carry out terror acts." The IDF said Hezbollah has launched missiles at Israel from Ramyeh, while "exploiting the civilian population in the village area and using it as a human shield." On Sunday, Hezbollah claimed at least three attacks on IDF positions on the Lebanon border. The night before, IDF strikes also hit Hezbollah positions in Aamra and Khiam, close to the Israeli border. One of the sites was used to fire an anti-tank missile at the Galilee on Saturday, the IDF said. The northern border has become increasingly volatile as Iran-backed Hezbollah fires rockets at northern Israel and carries out attacks along the border, saying it is acting in support of Hamas. Tens of thousands of northern residents have been displaced to other areas of Israel due to the incessant rocket fire. In public remarks at the opening of the weekly cabinet meeting Sunday, Netanyahu said, "We are acting to restore security to the north and to return residents to their homes. That requires continuing the fighting there at the moment. If we don’t achieve that [security] through diplomacy we will achieve it through military means." Economy Minister Nir Barkat, who has in the past clashed with Netanyahu over how the combat in Gaza is being conducted, challenged the prime minister, saying that "there is a feeling that the actions in the north are being carried out according to the lines of thinking of October 6," Kan news reported. Barkat was referring to the attitude held in the defense establishment before October 7 that Hamas was deterred from carrying out a significant attack on Israel, which allegedly led officials to dismiss signs of the impending assault. Barkat urged a stronger response to Hezbollah’s provocations, saying, "If there is not a clear victory the residents won’t go back and we will have lost the north. We need to wake up now and change the equation." One war at a time, Your Ministerness. The IDF and the Israeli economy both are not set up to manage a two front war. Netanyahu rejected his criticism, saying: “We are attacking far more than is thought.” He did not offer further details.Naim Qassem, deputy director-general of Hezbollah, was quoted in Lebanese media Sunday saying Israel will not be able to allow residents to return to their homes in northern Israel so long as the Gaza war is ongoing. He said Israel will not achieve anything without halting its campaign in Gaza, and warned that “the continued harm to Lebanese citizens will lead the response to be stronger.” The mayor of Kiryat Shmona, a key border area town, said residents will not return to their homes until Hezbollah has been pushed back from the northern border. “Nearly 90% of the city’s residents have evacuated and are scattered throughout the country,” Avichai Stern told Kan. “As long as the Radwan Unit is on the border, we will not return to our homes,” he said, referring to the terror group’s elite unit that has trained for an invasion of Israel. Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the Lebanese border on a near-daily basis, with the group saying it is doing so to support Gaza amid the war there. The skirmishes on the border have resulted in four civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of nine IDF soldiers. There have also been several rocket attacks from Syria, without any injuries. Hezbollah has named 134 members killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. In Lebanon, another 19 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and at least 19 civilians, three of whom were journalists, have been killed. IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said Friday that Hezbollah’s deployment in southern Lebanon “no longer looks the same as it did on October 6, and it will never be the same again.” Good. Ahmadi place of worship vandalised in Karachi
2023-07-26 | |
[Dawn] An Ahmadi place of worship was vandalised in Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... ’s Drigh Road area within the limits of Shah Faisal Colony, police and spokesperson for the community said on Tuesday. Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tariq Nawaz told Dawn.com that around four persons damaged the minarets on Monday. He said that police had taken cognisance of the matter and asked a member of the community to lodge a first information report (FIR). The senior officer said that a person identified as Bilal was in touch with the Shah Faisal Colony station house officer (SHO) till Monday night and officials had advised him to lodge a report.
Amir Mehmood, a spokesperson for the Ahmadi community, also said that an application for registering a FIR had been submitted to the police. The spokesperson said around a dozen people had entered the place of worship at around 3:45pm on Monday and destroyed the minarets with hammers and put "hateful graffiti on the walls". He recalled that a few months ago, two places of worship in Saddar and Martin Quarters were vandalised. He said that FIRs were registered in both the cases but police had yet to inform them of the progress in either of them. He said that the place of worship in Drigh Road had existed since Pakistain was created. "The government has utterly failed to provide security to Ahmadi places of worship," Mehmood said. In Pakistan if you’re not the Master Religion, you’re nothing. GOVT URGED TO PROVIDE SECURITYSeparately, a blurb from the Sadr Anjuman Ahmadiyya Pakistain spokesperson called on the government to provide security to the community’s places of worship. Strongly condemning the incident, the spokesperson said the community’s opponents had "crossed all limits of decency" and the "hate campaign against Ahmadis now knows no bounds". "As many as 10 Ahmadi places of worship have been attacked during the current year and so far, none of the aggressors have been held," the blurb said. The spokesperson said Ahmadis were feeling "an extreme sense of insecurity" while living in their own homeland and the actions of hatemongers were ruining the country’s international image. "It is high time that such hate mongers are put behind bars so they cannot undermine the fabric of religious harmony in the country any further." The spokesperson claimed that miscreants had "finalised plans to attack the Ahmadi places of worship" in various cities and towns across the country in Muharram, adding that announcements for such attacks were being openly made on social media platforms. The blurb said it was the government’s responsibility to arrange security for the community’s worship places so miscreants were unable to harm them. The drive against the Ahmadi community, which has become a regular feature in Punjab, is not only bringing a bad name to the country, but also inviting the ire of UN bodies. After a campaign last month to stop Ahmadis from offering sacrifice on Eidul Azha, the latest drive launched against the community involves demolition of the minarets of their places of worship. The drive is being spearheaded by the Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain (TLP). A Barelvi version of the Muslim Brotherhood founded in 2015 because the existing Pakistani political parties were not radical enough, TLP wants to make Sharia law preeminent via politics — their previous project being the 2021 protests that drove Prime Minister Imran Khan out of office.

Ahmadi lawyer booked, arrested in Karachi for having ‘Syed’ in his name Imtiaz Ali |
2023-04-28 |
And they can’t call where they pray mosques, lest real Moslems be confused. [Dawn] A senior lawyer from the Ahmadiyya community was booked and arrested on Thursday in Bloody Karachi...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... on the complaint of another lawyer over allegation of using "Syed" in his name. It was the second time in as many years that Advocate Ali Ahmed Tariq had been booked on similar charges. The first information report (FIR), a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, was filed at City Court Police Station and invokes Section 298-B (misuse of epithets, descriptions, and titles, etc, reserved for certain holy personages or places) of the Pakistain Penal Code In the FIR, complainant Advocate Mohammed Azhar Khan stated that during an appearance before a district judge he observed that Advocate Tariq had used "Syed" with his name in the affidavit while pleading a case. The complainant said that Tariq was an Ahmadi who had deliberately affixed "Syed" with his name. He, therefore, requested for a case to be registered against Advocate Tariq. City Courts Station House Officer (SHO) Adil Khan told Dawn.com that members of the Ahmadiyya community were not supposed to call themselves Moslems or present themselves as ’Ahle Bait’ under relevant laws. He added that Tariq was booked after he "misrepresented himself" as a "Syed" while submitting his affidavit in the court as a lawyer. "The police have taken action and arrested the lawyer who would likely be presented before the court on Friday," SHO Khan said. Ahmadiyya Jamaat, through its spokesperson Amir, expressed its concerns over the lodging of two identical FIRs and at the same cop shoppe against the senior lawyer. Advocate Tariq was booked over similar allegations in November as well. |

3 Ahmadis arrested in Faisalabad for sacrificing animals on Eid |
2022-07-11 |
Pakistan is truly a special place. [Dawn] A first information report (FIR) was registered in Faisalabad...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after... on Sunday against members of the Ahmadi community for "hurting Moslem sentiments" by sacrificing animals on Eidul Azha. Three members of the community have been arrested over the matter, Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Pakistain spokesperson Saleemuddin told Dawn.com. The FIR, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, states that the complainants were present in a mosque after Eidul Azha prayers when they came to know through "verified sources" that residents of the Ahmadi community were sacrificing animals inside their homes. The complainants then reached the area and "climbed the roofs of nearby houses, after which they saw that the [Ahmadi community members] were sacrificing a goat at one place while other members were cutting the meat of another animal at a different place", it added. "The Islamic sentiments of the complainants and other Moslems were hurt by this and [the complainants] recorded a video which can be presented as evidence. "By performing a ritual in line with Islamic beliefs and presenting themselves as Moslems despite being Ahmadis, they have committed a cognisable offence, according to Moslem ummah’s belief, and this has grievously hurt Moslem sentiments," the complainants stated. The FIR was registered at Faisalabad’s cop shoppe Thikriwala against five people under Section 298-C (person of Qadiani group, etc., calling himself a Moslem or preaching or propagating his faith) of the Pakistain Penal Code (PPC). The community’s spokesperson, Saleemuddin, said the slaughter was being performed within the confines of a house and not in a public place. "The community is being persecuted," he told Dawn.com. The religious affairs ministry had asked the interior ministry earlier this month to ensure the implementation of Article 260(3) of the Constitution, which classifies segments of society as ’non-Moslems’, and Section 298-C of the PPC. A letter addressed to the interior secretary, dated July 6, which Dawn.com has seen, stated that the article and Section 198-C "prevented" the Ahmadis from "posing themselves as Moslems and performing the Islamic practices". "It is stated that the implementation of the penal provisions contained in the Pakistain Penal Code is the responsibility of interior ministry (law enforcement agencies) up to extent of ICT and provincial governments up to extent of provinces," the letter added. |
