Misseriya tribe divided over Sudan army''s West Kordofan advance - Sudan Tribune
2025-05-31
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Disputes have erupted among leaders of the Misseriya tribe over how to respond to the Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese army's advance into West Kordofan state, with differing views on confronting government forces or maintaining ties with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The paramount chief, or Nazir, and other community leaders reportedly favour avoiding confrontation with government forces, while others insist on maintaining their alliance with the RSF.

The Misseriya are the largest tribe in West Kordofan and also have a presence in parts of South Kordofan state. The previous government relied on them to fight alongside its forces against the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) during the civil war in South Sudan before the latter's secession.

Local sources told Sudan Tribune that ''the Misseriya tribe is witnessing a division over how to deal with the army's advance into West Kordofan areas, as the tribe's Nazir and six Omdas (local chiefs) have called for not confronting the state (government forces).''

The sources indicated another faction within the tribe supports the RSF and demands the army's swift expulsion from Babanusa city and the Heglig oilfield.

According to the sources, the Nazir's group believes it is necessary to preserve young men's lives, avoid damaging service facilities and oilfields, and prevent civilian displacement, thus advocating against resisting the army's advance.

The RSF controls most areas where the Misseriya traditionally hold influence, including al-Fulah, al-Mujlad, al-Meiram, and Lagawa, while the army controls Babanusa and some oilfields.

In 2024, Nazir Mukhtar Babo Nimr and 22 Misseriya leaders wrote to RSF commander Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, stating they would not allow war in their areas and demanding the army's removal from tribal lands, according to a copy of the letter seen by Sudan Tribune.

The letter, signed by the Nazir, said West Kordofan borders South Sudan, particularly near al-Meiram, Abyei, Heglig, Keilak, and Lagawa. It warned that the fall of the 22nd Infantry Division's command would leave the state without an army presence, which ''would facilitate border penetration by those with ambitions.''

The division extends to an RSF mobilization campaign in West Kordofan. The RSF has reportedly launched widespread arrests in al-Mujlad, al-Fulah, and Balila, targeting local leaders, retired military personnel, and students accused of spying for the army and rejecting general mobilization calls.

Sources told Sudan Tribune that the RSF transferred dozens of detainees from West Kordofan to Nyala, capital of South Darfur state, which has been converted into a military command centre for the RSF.

Ahmed Ezzeldin Nouri, deputy head of the Misseriya Tribes Coordination Committee, told Sudan Tribune that the mobilization campaign by the RSF in West Kordofan state has failed mainly due to the refusal of young men and local leaders to join recruitment camps.

He said the RSF has imposed a levy of 100,000 Sudanese pounds on residents in its West Kordofan operational areas who refuse to mobilize.

Nouri reported the arrests of al-Hadi Hamdiya Absher, Hamed al-Samani, Suleiman Jumaa, and Sheikh Ahmed Abdulraheem, all prominent Misseriya community leaders in West Kordofan.

''The arrest campaign is evidence of the failure of the al-Dagalo family's militia project in mobilization and in maintaining its social support base in West Kordofan,'' Nouri added. He accused the RSF of widespread violations against civilians in al-Mujlad, al-Fulah, and other Misseriya territories.

Nouri also said many Misseriya tribal leaders have fled to neighbouring countries after RSF pressure to mobilize young men.

He said they hoped a mobile force known as ''Al-Sayyad'' (The Hunter) would protect civilians in West Kordofan and impose state authority. Nouri stressed: ''The Misseriya are an authentic Sudanese tribe, and the al-Daglo family's militia does not represent the tribe; it is a rebellious and outlaw force.''

Khartoum begins relocating refugees, foreigners, citing security concerns - Sudan Tribune

South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
's Khartoum state on Thursday began relocating refugees and other foreigners to three states near Sudan's borders, part of efforts to remove all foreign nationals from the capital, officials said.

The move follows earlier steps to register refugees for relocation after Khartoum authorities said they confirmed some foreigners, mainly from South Sudan and Æthiopia, had fought alongside the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during the RSF's earlier control of the state.

Khartoum Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza told news hounds his government had ''begun implementing the first phase'' of relocating foreigners and refugees from the capital to camps in White Nile, Gedaref, and Kassala states.

The first convoy included a number of Æthiopian refugees residing in Khartoum without formal status, Hamza said.

Before the current conflict erupted in Sudan, the government did not strictly enforce regulations on the residence or employment of foreigners and refugees in residential areas.

Sudan hosts 824,000 refugees, 69% of whom reside in camps, according to an April 24 update from the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The relocation will include all foreign nationals without exception, Hamza said, adding they would be received in camps equipped with basic services and prepared in coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and international organizations.

Security forces will continue efforts to apprehend foreign nationals within Khartoum state, the governor added.

Al-Sadiq Suleiman, Assistant Commissioner for Refugees at the Interior Ministry, said the relocation process was coordinated with Khartoum state authorities and that humanitarian aspects for families and children, such as food, healthcare, and shelter, were being provided in the camps

Summer of European Blackouts Continues, with Outages in Nice and Cannes in France
2025-05-29
[LegalInsurrection] It was only a few, short weeks ago that a sudden and unprecedented power outage struck the entire Iberian Peninsula, plunging nearly all of Spain and Portugal into darkness for several hours.

This weekend, the outages continued as southeastern France experienced two major power blackouts that disrupted daily life in Cannes and Nice, affecting more than 200,000 homes and critical infrastructure. The incidents are being investigated as acts of sabotage and arson, with anarchist groups claiming responsibility.

The first major outage occurred early Saturday, coinciding with the final day of the Cannes Film Festival. It is being reported that a fire broke out overnight at an electrical substation in Tanneron, west of Cannes, leading to a blackout that impacted approximately 160,000 homes.

Egypt bitter as Sudan's RSF Hemedti seeks to host Gaza refugees

“Welcome to Sudan, gentlemen and camp followers. Just like the Irish who got off the boat in America during their civil war, you have a choice: fight with us or die. Your uniforms are over there, the tents for your families are ranged beyond. There is also a school and playground for the children, courtesy of America — it does not have any flaming hoops or tunnels. Again, welcome in brotherly solidarity!”
The concerns come against the background of a plan by US President Donald Trump
...The cad! Twice caught beating wimmin!...
to take over the coastal Paleostinian enclave, kick its people out and build it into a "Middle East Riviera".

They also come in the wake of media reports about United Arab Emirates-sponsored attempts by RSF commander Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, widely known as Hemedti, to curry favour with Trump's administration by proposing to take in some of the people of Gaza in areas controlled by his militia in Sudan.

Such a plan angers Cairo, which has been lobbying hard to foil the US president's plan.
”How dare those upstarts connive with that horrible Trump person to enable that uppity Jewish state to win against pious Muslims! Don’t they know that we were already civilized when they still painted themselves blue and danced around with bones through their noses?!”
"Egypt staunchly opposes the displacement of the people of Gaza because it is keen on protecting the rights of the Paleostinians to their land," Egyptian political researcher Mohammed Rabie al-Dehi remarked to The New Arab.
They’re no good as a weapon against the Jooooos once they’re scattered and working on survival and improving their lot.
"Hemedti's proposal to take in Gaza refugees makes it necessary for all Arab states to act to rescue Paleostinian statehood dreams," he added.

LITTLE INFLUENCE OVER RSF
There has been no confirmation of the aforementioned reports from either the US or the UAE. The RSF commander Hemedti has not spoken openly about such a plan either.

Nonetheless, Abu Dhabi maintains close relations with the paramilitary Sudanese group which has been locked in a war with the Sudanese army since mid-April 2023, one that has so far destroyed most of Sudan, caused the displacement of millions of Sudanese citizens, both inside and outside Sudan, and opened the door for the emergence of one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.

Close relations between the UAE and the RSF have turned the Sudanese army and Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council, the ruling body in Sudan, against Abu Dhabi, with the council accusing the Gulf state of offering arms and financial support to its rival militia.

The Sudanese government has also filed a lawsuit against the UAE at the International Court of Justice, accusing it of complicity with the RSF in perpetrating genocide in Sudan.

Egypt's problem with a scenario where the RSF proposes to take in Gaza refugees in areas it controls in Sudan derives from the little influence it has over the Sudanese militia.

The RSF shares control over Sudanese cities with the Sudanese army. In recent weeks, the paramilitary group intensified its military campaign against the army, having apparently received a fresh supply of arms from its regional benefactors, especially unmanned aerial vehicles.

Now, the RSF controls large swaths of eastern Sudan, along with areas in the western part of the African country where allied militias prevail.

The intensification of the RSF campaign also came hard on the heels of significant victories by the Sudanese army, especially in Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

Cairo has been a strong backer of the Sudanese army, a policy enshrined in Egypt's foreign policy doctrine which bans relations with non-state actors or militias.

This backing has caused relations between Cairo and the RSF to teeter on the edge of hostility, with the militia repeatedly accusing the Egyptian air force of striking its positions and killing its fighters.

"The RSF is a fascist
...anybody you disagree with, damn them...
militia that has suffered one defeat after another in the past period," Sudanese political analyst Amgad Farid told TNA.

"It works tooth and nail to prove its relevance by criticising and antagonising Egypt, a regional heavyweight whether it likes it or not," he added.

Palestinian clans are looking to join Abraham Accords after Oct. 7.
2025-05-28
[Jpost] It began with a sentence that sounded less like the opening of a diplomatic talk and more like the opening pitch at an accelerator demo-day. Economy Minister Nir Barkat — whose résumé lists two tech exits before it lists "mayor of Jerusalem" — stepped onto the Jerusalem Post Conference stage in New York and said he was tired of hearing that the West Bank was unsolvable.

If a product fails, he told the room, you either ship a better one or the market walks. His "product" was the Paleostinian Authority; his better version was a Paleostinian chapter of the Abraham Accords. "One day — hopefully soon — Arabs in Judea and Samaria will decide they’ve had enough of the PA and ask to join the accords," he said.

"If they work with Israel, we’ll help them build Dubai. If they fight Israel, they’ll end up looking like Gazoo

Phones came up like periscopes. The routine chatter about Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula, largely made up of sand and oil rigs. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual haj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Formerly dictatorial and steeped in Olde Tyme Religion, deferring to Salafist holy men on all issues, it has now done a 180 and is making a serious effort to modernize, so as not to be left in the sand by its Gulf Arab neighbors. The holy men have been shoved to the background and the nation is now still dictatorial but somewhat rational. That doesn't make them trustworthy, but it's a start...
’s eventual normalization vanished. Barkat was talking about Rawabi, Abu Dis, perhaps even Jenin, not Riyadh or Jakarta.

In his model, clusters of West Bank towns would bypass Ramallah, plug directly into Israeli security and Gulf capital, and trade under commercial annexes adapted from the UAE-Israel playbook. No midnight shuttle diplomacy, no flags raised over Rose Garden lawns — just container IDs, escrow instructions and profit-and-loss sheets.

Voice of America layoffs to result in dozens of deportations
2025-05-24
[TheDesk] Many independent contractors laid off by the broadcaster last week hold work visas that require continued employment to stay in the United States.

Dozens of independent contractors who were laid off at the Voice of America (VOA) last week are likely to be deported within the next month as a result of their job losses, The Desk has learned.

The contractors — around 60 in total — participate in the Exchange Visitor Program, which entitles them to J-1 visas to live and work in the United States as long as they are engaged in certain roles, including the production and distribution of journalism.

The workers were among more than 500 whose contracts were terminated last week by the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), the parent organization of VOA. The layoffs come about two months after President Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...
signed an Executive Order that required USAGM and six other agencies to significantly reduce their operations and fire employees accordingly.

More than 1,000 VOA workers were laid off and hundreds of contracts were temporarily suspended, triggering legal challenges across the board. Those challenges have resulted in favorable decision by lower courts, some of which have been partially reversed by appellate judges.

Earlier this month, USAGM special advisor Kari Lake said the agency intends to partner with right-of-center news broadcaster One America News (OAN), which will license news packages that VOA can use on its radio and TV networks and digital platforms. So far, VOA has yet to broadcast or publish any OAN material, but the partnership served as a partial catalyst toward the independent contractor layoffs last week.

The 60 visa holders are required to maintain employment as part of their ongoing participation in the J-1 program. Their status remains in limbo after VOA ended their contract employment last week. Without new employment, many face the likelihood of having their work permits revoked, which would lead to deportations.

In a note circulated to employees last Thursday, VOA Director Michael Abramowitz said he was "heartbroken to learn about today’s mass terminations of personal service contractors [PSCs] working for Voice of America."

"PSCs have been a critical part of VOA’s mission, and they have made enormous contributions to VOA’s important work," Abramowitz wrote. "Some of VOA’s most talented journalists have been PSCs — many of whom have escaped tyranny in their home countries to tell America’s story of freedom and democracy. Many have served VOA’s viewers and listeners for years and are deeply versed in the markets in which VOA broadcasts."

Abramowitz called the firings "inexplicable, and, to my knowledge, no rationale has been provided by USAGM for this decision."

"We will continue to make efforts to help individual PSCs, especially those who face possible return to hostile countries, in any and every way we can during this difficult time. This remains among my most important priorities, and I hope it will be a priority for USAGM as well," he affirmed.

Two Men Found Guilty of Financing 2019 Al-Shabaab hotel Attack in Kenya
2025-05-24
[Garowe] A court in Kenya has found two men guilty of aiding an al-Shabaab
... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them...
attack in Kenya that left 21 people dead in 2019, with the Kahawa Law Courts linking them directly with the prime perpetrators following evidence tabled before the judge.

The two, Hussein Mohammed Abdille Ali and Mohammed Abdi Ali, who were earlier found to have a case to answer, appeared before Lady Justice Diana Kavedza, who found them guilty on all charges except one, of conspiring to commit a terrorist act contrary to the law.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), Hussein was found guilty of facilitating the gunnies through the payment of $6500 to one of the killers who died instantly after the attack.

"The court found that he had facilitated the attack by transferring a total of Ksh.. 836,900 (6500) via M-Pesa to Ali Salim Gichunge, also known as Farouk or Erick Kinyanjui Munyi — the dear departed attacker and a member of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group," stated the ODPP.

"These transactions occurred between October 14, 2018, and January 12, 2019, in the Soko Mbuzi area of Mandera County."

A total of 46 witnesses were presented by the prosecution, which played an integral role in securing convictions. The team wants sentences for each count to run consecutively rather than concurrently.

The court ordered the preparation of a probation report within 21 days, to be submitted by June 17, 2025. The matter was scheduled for a sentencing hearing on June 19, 2025. This is a major breakthrough in the fight against al-Shabaab.

In the recent hearing of the case, the first accused, Mire Abdulahi, previously entered a plea bargain with the prosecution and was duly convicted and sentenced. The court on January 21st found that the two suspects had a case to answer.

During the trial in January, Lady Justice Kavedza in her ruling said, "Having considered the evidence of 55 witnesses, including expert testimonies, and the material presented before me, I am satisfied that the prosecution has established a prima facie case against the two accused persons. I hereby place the second accused, Hussein Mohammed Abdile, and the third accused, Mohammed Abdi Ali, on their defence."
Shabelle Media adds:
Two Kenyan men charged with facilitating the 2019 attack on a luxury hotel complex that left 21 people dead were found guilty on Thursday and will be sentenced next month.

Judge Diana Kavedza, while sitting in a court in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, ruled that the prosecution had proved that Hussein Mohamed Abdille Ali and Mohamed Abdi Ali sent money and helped acquire fake identification documents for the militants who died during the DusitD2 hotel complex attack.

Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack,

Sudan reports surge in cholera cases amid Khartoum water crisis

It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
's Ministry of Health on Tuesday reported a surge in cholera cases in Omdurman's Karrari locality and Jabal Awliya, south of Khartoum.

Large areas of Khartoum State are experiencing a severe water supply crisis. The crisis worsened after the Rapid Support Forces shelled three power stations in Omdurman on May 14, leading to power outages in the capital.

Khartoum residents are being forced to use water from unsafe sources, such as shallow wells or direct extraction from the Nile, contributing to the widespread outbreak of diseases.

The Ministry of Health's Emergency Operations Centre said in a statement that ''2,323 new cholera cases have been recorded, including 51 deaths over three weeks, 90% of which were identified in Khartoum State, especially Karrari and Jebel Aulia.''

The ministry also stated that Sudan faces other health threats, including dengue fever, malaria, hepatitis, measles, and diphtheria, with varying infection and fatality rates across the states.

ese army on Thursday reported the discovery of mass graves containing the remains of 465 victims of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in southern Omdurman, Khartoum State.

This marks the second-largest mass grave discovery by the army, following the unearthing of at least 550 bodies in northern Khartoum Bahri in March. That previous site was near a compound used by the RSF for imprisonment and torture.

In a statement received by Sudan Tribune, the army said it ''found mass graves in the al-Salha area, south of Omdurman, containing the bodies of 465 people who died due to neglect, lack of food, treatment, and medicine.'' It further clarified that some of the discovered graves held as many as 27 bodies each.

The al-Salha area, part of the Omdurman locality, has been under RSF control since the military conflict began on April 15, 2023.

The army stated that the RSF had detained 648 citizens and retired regular forces personnel, holding them in inhumane conditions inside a school in al-Salha. Of these, 465 ''were martyred and buried in mass graves,'' while the remainder were released after the area was recaptured.
