"There should be a case under Article 6 against maulana for his statement regarding the ousting of the government," he said, during an informal conversation with journalists.

"The government will complete its term, it's not going anywhere," Prime Minister Imran added.

Earlier this week, Rehman said that he had ended his Azadi sit-in because he had been given assurances that Prime Minister Imran will step down and elections will be held in three months. The JUI-F had staged a 13-day (from Nov 1 to 13, 2019) sit-in on Kashmir

Talking about the party's Azadi March, which had culminated in Islamabad, he said that the JUI-F didn't go to the capital without any purpose, neither did it return without any purpose.

IHC suspends decision to cancel JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah's citizenship

[DAWN] The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday suspended the National Database and Registration Authority's (Nadra) decision to cancel the citizenship of Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam

Hearing a petition filed by the former senator and minister, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah sought a reply from Nadra within two weeks and directed the authority as well as the interior ministry not to take any sort of action against Hamdullah.

On Sunday, it was reported that Nadra declared Hamdullah an 'alien' after finding that he had 'fraudulently obtained' his computerised national identity card (CNIC), which was subsequently cancelled.

While the government decision had been taken two weeks prior, it came to the limelight only days before the JUI-F’s so-called 'Azadi March' on Islamabad. A notification issued by the Pakistain Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) barring TV channels from inviting Hamdullah to talk shows as a guest had referred to a Nadra letter dated Oct 11.

In his reaction, the JUI-F leader blamed state institutions of 'political victimisation' and said no one in his family, including his father, had ever been accused of being an alien. He said his father was an employee of the education department in 1974 and he had already provided documents to Nadra to prove it.

During court proceedings today, Hamdullah said Nadra had cancelled his CNIC and he had submitted a petition against the decision; however, no action had been taken on the application for a week. He said Nadra's decision should be declared void and the interior ministry should be stopped from taking any action.

Officials representing Nadra told the court that in December 2018, a letter was written to the JUI-F leader regarding his citizenship and a district-level committee had been formed. Following this, Hamdullah had appeared before the committee, which had asked him for his documentation.

According to Nadra, the documents presented by the JUI-F leader had turned out to be "bogus".

Justice Minallah asked if Hamdullah had any children and whether they had CNIC cards, to which his lawyer responded in the affirmative.

The counsel added that one of Hamdullah's sons was even in the army.

"Can you doubt the citizenship of the husband of a mother who sends her son to sacrifice himself for the country?" the IHC chief justice remarked.

After hearing initial arguments, the IHC decided to suspend Nadra's decision to cancel Hamdullah's citizenship.

"The Constitution has been made a joke in this country," he said, alleging that the prime minister has become a security risk. "He [Prime Minister Imran] has ruined the economy, and a country with a devastated economy can't survive. We approached the masses against him and took out 15 million marches and now we are able to help the people get rid of the government," the JUI-F chief said.

Interior ministry notifies ban on JUI-F's ‘militant wing’

The proscription of Ansar-ul-Islam, which the ministry referred to as a "private militia/Razakar Force" of the JUI-F, comes days before the Maulana Fazlur Rehman

According to the notification, the federal government had "reasons to believe that Ansar-ul-Islam is capable of functioning as a military organization, in violation of the prohibition contained in Article 256 of the Constitution".

The ban was imposed after approval by the federal government and obtaining the consent from all four provincial governments under Article 146(1) of the Constitution, which allows the federal government to delegate any of its powers to the provinces, conditionally or unconditionally, with the consent of the provincial governments.

Through the notification, the federal government through the Ministry of Interior has "entrust[ed] the provincial governments the power to take appropriate actions under Section 2 of the Private Military Organisations (Abolition and Prohibition) Act, 1974, against Ansar-ul-Islam".

The authority will include, among others, "the power to abolish/ban the said organization and take further steps against them on ground" in order to complete the action, the notice said.

A summary seeking a ban on Ansar-ul-Islam was approved by the federal cabinet earlier this week, sources in the cabinet division had said.

Pursued by NAB, JUI-F leader Akram Khan Durrani files pre-arrest bail plea

[DAWN] Former federal minister Akram Khan Durrani on Tuesday filed a petition before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking pre-arrest bail in multiple inquiries initiated against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

In his petition the JUI-F leader stated that he is "being victimised and harassed by the respondents [the chairman, deputy director and investigation officer Nadeem Fraz of NAB] although he is cooperating with them and will continue to do so. However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
the pace at which all three inquiries are being carried out, his arrest before he could further garner support from other opposition parties for Azadi March is very likely."

Mr Durrani is facing inquiries for alleged corruption in two housing projects of the Federal Government Housing Foundation, appointment of blue-eyed officers in the Pakistain Housing Authority Foundation, allotment of ’out of turn’ plots for mosques and induction in the Pakistain Public Works Department (PWD).

The petitioner states that he "belongs to Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam-F which is to lead the Azadi March against the government from Oct 27" and a Rehbar Committee was formed for coordination and preparation of the protest.

"The petitioner has been playing an instrumental role in the Rehbar Committee and has in fact been representing his party at some of these meetings of the committee," the petition said, adding that the government "just to disturb political activities" is behind the inquiries.

The petitioner said that NAB "since its formation in 1999 has primarily been serving as a tool of political engineering and a way of silencing dissenting voices".

He expressed apprehensions that NAB may be used against the Azadi March’s organisers.

's Qilla Abdullah District, Chaman Assistant Commissioner Yasir Dashti said.

According to police officials, the bomb was an improvised bomb (IED) which was planted in a cycle of violence parked on the roadside.

The explosion initially left Maulana Muhammad Hanif, a central leader of the JUI-F, critically injured. He was being shifted to Quetta when he departed this vale of tears on the way to the hospital, Dashti said.

Police said Hanif was the target of the attack.

The blast occurred on Taj Road in Chaman, which is located just kilometres away from the country's border with Afghanistan, and shattered windows in nearby buildings.

The dead include a 12-year-old child, Chaman District Police Officer Shaukat Mohmand told DawnNewsTV.

The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Chaman, where an emergency was declared.

Chaman is considered a sensitive town in Balochistan as it shares a border with Afghanistan's volatile Kandahar province.

PPP and JUI-F agree on sending government home, opposition leaders say after meeting

The resolve came after JUI-F leader and convener of the opposition’s Rahbar Committee Akram Durrani called on PPP leaders Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and Sherry Rehman at the latter's office in the parliament.

The meeting was a part of JUI-F's efforts to get the PPP on board for its anti-government long march which is scheduled for next month. The PPP leadership has previously announced it will not join the march but promised to provide "moral and political support" to the JUI-F.

Speaking to news hounds following their meeting, Durrani said leaders of the two parties had "good" discussions.

He said the JUI-F and PPP had reached complete consensus on one idea: "We have to send this government home. We have to send this prime minister home."

Army statement not a warning, says Fazl

[Dawn] PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that recent statement by military commanders about the National Action Plan (NAP) should not be viewed as a warning but should be taken in “a positive sense”.

Talking to media personnel here before attending a tribal jirga on Thursday, he said that apex committees were the appropriate forums to discuss national issues, including implementation of NAP.

“Take statement of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) positively... it should not be considered a warning,” he said when asked about the press release issued after the corps commanders’ meeting in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

“Apex committees exist and such issues can be discussed there,” he said, adding that the army chief could not issue directives to the prime minister.

The apex committees, comprising civilian and military leaders, have been set up at the federal level and in the four provinces to take decisions regarding terrorism and governance.

He said the government had tasked the army with restoring peace in Karachi, Balochistan and Fata and if bad governance was an issue and a hindrance to NAP’s implementation then an institution could send its proposals to the government.

Addressing the grand jirga convened by JUI-F to discuss problems being faced by the people of Fata, Maulana Fazl criticised some political parties and a group of Fata lawmakers for campaigning for integration of tribal areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that some political parties were trying to sabotage the efforts of the grand jirga which had been mandated in 2012 to work for peace in Fata.

All major political parties like Awami National Party, Jamaat-i-Islami, Qaumi Watan Party, Pakistan Tehreek Insaf and other groups are in favour of merger of Fata with KP. The ANP has announced its support for a rally to be taken out on Nov 16 for Fata reforms.

The JUI-F chief said that any decision relating to Fata should be taken after consultations with tribal elders.

He said that tribal elders had reservations over the six-member committee set up by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to finalise recommendations about Fata reforms. Adviser to Prime Minister Sartaj Aziz is head of the committee.

The jirga asked Maulana Fazl to hold talks with the prime minister and convey its reservations over Fata issues to him.
