...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. Leadership Council on Wednesday, in a move led by Atta Mohammad Noor, voted in a majority to replace the current leader Salahuddin Rabbani with Enayatullah Shadab, who will now lead the council.

Based on the council's decision, the Jamaat party will play a significant role in the grinding of the peace processor as well as in the government, but other members of the council's leadership, led by Salahuddin Rabbani, see the decision as an Intra-party conspiracy and added that Rabbani will continue to his job as the chairman of the party leadership council.

Tensions have risen among members of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, led by Atta Mohammad Noor, after Enayatullah Shadab' replaced Salahuddin Rabbani.

"Cohesion is the focus of reform and reconstruction in the Jamaat itself, this decision will stand until a congress of the Jamaat-e-Islami party of Afghanistan. (In the meantime) one of the most respected and founders of party, Professor Enayatullah Shadab, will lead chairmanship of the Jamaat leadership council," said Abdul Hafiz Mansour, a member of the leadership council of Jamaat-e-Islami party of Afghanistan.

A number of other members of the Jamaat-e-Islami party council, led by Salahuddin Rabbani, have called the decision an Intra-party conspiracy and in a statement suspended council membership of Atta Mohammad Noor, Younos Qanoni, Kalimullah Naqibi, Hafiz Mansour, Abdul Shokor Waqif Hakimi, Enayatullah Shadab and Abdul Satar Murad.

"The Jamaat-e- Islamic party of Afghanistan, emphasizing its previous positions on the country's major political issues, considers yesterday's meeting a conspiracy and against the party's principles and the party constitution," said Waliullah Adib, a member of the leadership council of Jamaat-e-Islami party of Afghanistan.

, the former head of the High Peace Council.

"The day before, we witnessed the convening of the congress of the Jamaat-e-Islami Party of Afghanistan, in which the interim chairman was elected, which should have taken place three years ago," said Tawofiq Wahdat, MP.

Tensions between Salahuddin Rabbani and a number of members of the party escalated after an agreement was signed between President Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah

Bangladesh
2nd war crimes tribunal by next month
2012-01-08
[Bangla Daily Star] The government will form another tribunal within February to try crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in 1971, Law Minister Shafique Ahmed told The Daily Star yesterday.

"We will form another three-judge tribunal like the existing one [International Crimes Tribunal] for quick disposal of war crimes-related cases," he said.

The International Crimes Tribunal Act allows the government to form more than one tribunal for disposing of war crimes cases.

The new tribunal will sit in the Old High Court building in the capital, where the Law Commission has its office now. A process has already started to shift the office of the Law Commission to another place, said the law minister.

He added that judges would be appointed for the new tribunal immediately after "we arrange logistics and staff for it."

The International Crimes Tribunal formed on March 25, 2010 has High Court Judge Md Nizamul Huq as its chairman. Its two other members are HC Judge ATM Fazle Kabir and a retired district judge, AKM Zaheer Ahmed.

The tribunal has framed 20 specific war crimes charges against Jamaat-e- Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi
...Islamic orator and politician. He was a former Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2008, and is one of the most prominent leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami...
, and is now hearing depositions of the prosecution witnesses.

It is scheduled to hold the hearings on January 15 and 29 on the charge framing against BNP leader Salauddin Qader Chowdhury and Jamaat leader Abdul Qader Molla.

The tribunal will give its decision on January 9 as to whether it will take war crimes charges against former Jamaat ameer Ghulam Azam and present Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami
...During the liberation war of 1971, Nizami formed the Al-Badr Force and acted as its supreme commander. The Al-Badr militia took active part in rape, extortion, looting and killing of Bangladeshis who supported the liberation, including a pre-planned massacre on December 14, 1971, when the Al-Badr militia along with Pakistan Army rounded up hundreds of doctors, professors, writers, and other Bengali intellectuals, and executed them...

Muttahida Qaumi Movement condemns attack on Nasreen Jalil
2005-07-03
MQM leader Nasreen Jalil on Saturday accused Jamaat-e- Islami (JI) activists of attacking and harassing her at the Karachi Airport on Friday night. Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC), she said that, when she arrived from Islamabad, JI workers who had gathered to welcome the former nazim of Karachi, Naimtullah Khan, harassed her and used abusive language against her in the presence of MNA Laiq Ahmad, MPA Nasrullah Shaji and Naimatullah Khan. She said they were chanting slogans against Altaf Hussain. “In my entire political life, I have never faced such harassment as this. And it was done by those who claim respect for women,” she said. She urged the president, the prime minister, the chief minister and the governor to take cognisance of the ugly incident.

Dr Farooq Sattar, the deputy convenor of the coordination committee the MQM, on the occasion, alleged that the “thunder squad” of the JI was involved in “the attack” on Nasreen Jalil. He said that, the JI, sensing defeat in the local bodies’ polls, was trying to provoke MQM workers. He said the JI’s demand for LB polls under army showed they believe in dictatorship and not in democracy. Anwar Alam, in charge of the coordination committee, and MNA Haider Rizvi were also present.

The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) on Saturday contradicted allegations against JI activists of misbehaviour with Nasreen Jalil, a member of the coordination committee of the MQM. In a statement, MMA Sindh MPAs Nasrullah Khan Shajee, Younus Barai, and Hameedullah Khan Advocate claimed that no incident of manhandling of the women MQM leader took place at the Karachi Airport, when she passed through the crowd gathered at the place to welcome the former CDGK nazim, Naimatullah Khan, on Friday night, who had just arrived from Islamabad. They said the JI and MMA leaders and activists always believed in decency and held women in high esteem. The MPAs said that Nasreen Jalil was provided with a safe passage out of the airport by JI activists, and that she safely proceeded to her destination in a vehicle waiting for her at the parking lot.

JUI-S accuses MMA of betraying people
2004-12-29
Sami just hates being the junior partner...
The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), headed by Maulana Samiul Haq of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S), is the genuine MMA enjoying the support of all religious and political parties of the country, said Mufti Mohammed Usman Yar Khan, Vice President of the MMA, Sindh, and Deputy Secretary of the JUI (S) on Tuesday.
"Just because nobody pays attention to us don't mean they don't support us!"
He was talking to the Daily Times about the circumstances that led to breaking away of the JUI (S) from the MMA, headed by Qazi Hussain Ahmad, chief of the Jamaat-e- Islami. Explaining his point of view, Mufti Usman said initially 35 political and religious parties of the country were part of the alliance when the MMA was formed before the general elections in October 2002. Major component of the MMA were the Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (JUI-F), JUI (S), Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP), Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaaf, Pakistani Awami Tehreek, Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, Tehreek Nifaz Fiqh-e-Jafria and others. He said soon after formation of the alliance, the JI and the JUI (F) began ignoring smaller parties and generated controversies over the number of seats for smaller parties in the general elections of 2002. Maulana Samiul Haq countered their overbearing attitude and reminded them that in the MMA no party was great or small and all the component parties had equal importance, he added.

Qazi warns Perv against sabotaging Kashmir 'freedom struggle'
2002-06-02
Announcing that people of Pakistan will not cow down by Indian threats and put up stiff resistance to sinister designs of India rather than withdrawing from its jugular vein, Kashmir, Jamaat-e- Islami has warned the rulers to refrain from stabbing in the back of Kashmir freedom movement. In a resolution adopted in the concluding session of Markazi Majlis-e-Shoora held in Lahore under JI Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad, JI alleged that General Pervez Musharraf has fully surrendered to US and this has started showing its horrendous results.
Hardly the first time he's alledged that...
Pointing to threats being posed by US to nuclear assets, JI said that the concocted stories being flashed in US and western media speak volumes for the rancour and grudge being harboured by US against Pakistan nuclear installations adding that US has its evil designs to bring this capability under its control on one or other pretext.
More incoherent than usual... I think he means we want to grab the Islamic nukes.
Focusing on the shift in Kashmir policy of the government, JI said that US and its allies are all set to mount pressure on Pakistan to accept Indian conditions for resolution of this issue rather than supporting just stance of Pakistan and Kashmiris and condemning the massive human rights violations in Held Kashmir at the hands of Indian troops. General Musharraf has fully surrendered to US threats, JI regretted. JI remarked that UN, US and all international community has recognised Kashmir as a disputed issue and the control line dividing Azad Kashmir and Occupied Kashmir does not enjoy the status of international borders as the India wants to have this accepted by accusing Pakistan as sponsoring cross border terrorism. UK and US are supporting India in this regard, the resolution added.
That's because they've been acting fairly reasonable and not sending people across the line of control to carry out sectarian cleansing and throw grenades all over the place.
