Lebanon to extradite son of late Muslim cleric al-Qaradawi to UAE over alleged inflammatory comments |
2025-01-09 |
[IsraelTimes] Leb ...Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects.... is set to extradite the son of late senior Moslem holy man Youssef al-Qaradawi … (1926-2022). Peripatetic academic, scholar, and charismatic public intellectual, the chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars was known as The Voice of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood because of his popular Al Jazeera television show that claimed a worldwide audience of 40-60 million, the IslamOnline website he started in 1997 as dawa, or Muslim outreach, and the more than 120 books he wrote on various Muslim subjects. The Muslim Brotherhood claimed him as as one of their chief theologians, though he denied it, and a sharia-compliant bank of which he was the principal shareholder was listed at the UN as associated with Al Qaeda until 2010, so possibly he wasn’t the moderate Muslim some claimed, though he was definitely in the Muslim mainstream… to the United Arab Emirates after the country’s caretaker cabinet approved the move, the Lebanese prime minister’s office says.Abdul Rahman al-Qaradawi, …a.k.a. Abdul Rahman Yusuf, the third son of Youssef al-Qaradawi is a poet known for his criticisms of the UAE, the Sisi regime in Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, so sooner or later his number would be up… an Egyptian-Ottoman Turkish poet, was detained in Lebanon on Dec. 28 after returning from Syria, according to his lawyer Mohammad Sablouh and human rights...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedomat the convenience of the state... group Amnesty International. His arrest followed critical comments Qaradawi made of the UAE, Saudi Arabia ![]() n and Egyptian authorities in a video posted online. See? The UAE and Egypt have both filed requests for his extradition. The requests "are believed to be based on the legitimate exercise of his right to freedom of expression," Amnesty International’s deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa, Sara Hashash says in a statement, urging Lebanese authorities to reject the extradition requests. The Egyptian and Emirati foreign ministries do not immediately respond to requests for comment. Qaradawi’s lawyer says he will file an urgent appeal to block his client’s extradition but fears the poet might be flown out of the country before then. Sheikh Youssef al-Qaradawi, who died in 2022, was a spiritual guide to the Moslem Brüderbund who championed the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings and unsettled rulers in Egypt and the Gulf with his Islamist preaching. He spoke in favor of suicide kabooms against Israelis and denied Israel’s right to exist. Born in Egypt, Qaradawi spent much of his life in Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi... , where he became one of the Arab world’s most influential Sunni Moslem holy mans thanks to regular appearances on Qatar’s Al Jazeera television network. Broadcast into millions of homes, his sermons fueled tensions that led Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies to impose a blockade on Qatar in 2017 and declare Qaradawi a terrorist. Top Muslim scholar rejects 'coup' in Tunisia |
2021-07-27 |
IUMS is headquartered in Doha and affiliated with the Moslem Brotherhood. "We are against any coup even if it is carried out by an Islamic group. Our legitimate position is clear," IUMS Secretary-General Ali al-Qaradaghi said in a Twitter post following the announcement by Tunisian President Kais Saied late Sunday that he has fully assumed executive authority. Saied dismissed the government of Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi, froze parliament and assumed the executive authority with the assistance of a new prime minister. Qaradaghi warned the Tunisian people to be wary of putschists' traps. "Tunisia and its great people are too big and conscious to be swallowed up by the putschists and their supporters," he said. Meanwhile, ...back at the secret hideout, Scarface Al sneeringly put his proposition to little Nell... soldiers deployed at parliament prevented Parliament Speaker Rached Ghannouchi and accompanying politicians from entering the building. Ghannouchi, for his part, denounced Saied's move as a "full-fledged coup" against the Tunisian constitution, revolution, and freedoms in the country. Tunisia has been gripped by a deep crisis since Jan. 16, when Mechichi announced a cabinet reshuffle but Saied refused to hold a ceremony to swear in the new ministers. Tunisia also faces an unprecedented spread of the COVID-19 strains in most states, causing a rapid spread of the virus. Tunisia is seen as the only Arab country that succeeded in carrying out a democratic transition among other Arab countries that also witnessed popular revolutions that toppled the ruling regimes, including Egypt, Libya, and Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... Muslim world questions logic behind Charlie antics |
2015-01-15 |
[ARABNEWS] Iyad Madani, secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, has denounced the publication of sacrilegious cartoons by French magazine Charlie Hebdo Wednesday, calling the move insolence, ignorance and foolishness. He said: Freedom of speech must not become a hate-speech and it must not offend others. No sane person, regardless of doctrine, religion or faith, accepts his beliefs being ridiculed. Prominent Saudi scholar Sheikh Ahmed Al-Ghamdi said that publication of the latest image was a mistake. Its not a good way to make the people understand us. Jesus or Moses, all messengers (of God) we should respect, and should not be made fun of in pictures or words, Ghamdi said. I believe it will make more problems. The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestinian lands, Mohammed Hussein, said such cartoons fuel feelings of hatred and resentment among people and publishing them shows contempt for Muslim feelings. Leading Islamic authority Al-Azhar denounced the new edition and said: The stature of the Prophet of Mercy is greater and more lofty than to be harmed by cartoons that are unrestrained by decency and civilized standards. It said: Al-Azhar calls on all Muslims to ignore this hateful frivolity. The International Union of Muslim Scholars also criticized the antics of Charlie Hebdo, claiming they would further stir up hatred, extremism and tension. It is neither reasonable, nor logical, nor wise to publish drawings and films offensive or attacking the Prophet of Islam, said the Qatar-based union, headed by Yusuf Al-Qardawi. According to the union, publication of the drawing would give further credibility to the idea that the West is against Islam. It said: If we agree that (those who committed the attacks) are a minority that do not represent Islam or Muslims, then how can we respond with actions that are not directed against them, but against the Prophet revered by a billion-and-a-half Muslims? Meanwhile, Yemens Al-Qaeda branch on Wednesday confirmed it carried out last weeks deadly assault in Paris and vowed more attacks on the West. In a video posted on Twitter, a commander said: You will look for peace and stability but you will not find it because of the deeds of those carrying out martyrdom operations and heroes of lone jihad. He said the Yemeni-American cleric Anwar Al-Awlaki, who was killed in a US drone strike in Yemen in September 2011, had arranged the attack. |

State Dept Promotes Website of Muslim Cleric Who Backed Fatwa on 'Killing of U.S. Soldiers' | |
2014-05-25 | |
[Washington Free Beacon] The State Department's Counter Terrorism (CT) Bureau promoted on Friday a controversial Muslim scholar whose organization has reportedly backed Hamas and endorsed a fatwa authorizing the murder of U.S. soldiers in Iraq. The CT bureau on Friday tweeted out a link to the official website of Sheikh Abdallah Bin Bayyah, the vice president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), a controversial organization founded by a Muslim Brotherhood leader "who has called for the death of Jews and Americans and himself is banned from visiting the U.S.," according to Fox News. Bin Bayyah is reported to have been one of several clerics who endorsed a 2004 fatwa that endorsed resistance against Americans fighting in Iraq, PJ Media reported in 2013, when Bin Bayyah met with Obama's National Security Council staff at the White House.

Obama White House Hosts Sheikh Who Called for Killing American Troops in Iraq |
2013-06-26 |
President Obamas top national security advisers have just hosted Sheikh Abdulla bin Bayyah at the White House. As vice president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) in 2004, bin Bayyah endorsed a fatwa calling for the killing of American troops and other personnel serving in Iraq. Bin Bayyah is the principal deputy to Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Muslim Brotherhoods chief sharia jurist and the driving force of the IUMS. In addition to being behind the 2004 fatwa, Qaradawi also promotes suicide bombing against Israel. The IUMS strongly supports the Brotherhoods Palestinian branch, Hamas, the terrorist organization designated as such under American law. Indeed, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh a close ally of both Qaradawi and Turkeys Islamic supremacist prime minister (and Obama fave) Recep Tayyip Erdogan was welcomed into the IUMS as a member in 2004. As detailed here on other occasions (see, e.g., here), Hamass charter explains that the groups imperative to destroy Israel is an Islamic obligation, and it cites authoritative scripture frequently repeated by Qaradawi stating that the world will not end until Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them); until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! there is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him! News of the White House meeting with bin Bayyah was broken last night by Steve Emerson and John Rossomando of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. The meeting took place at the Obama administrations request, according to an account of it posted along with a photo on bin Bayyahs website. Since its original posting, the account has been edited to omit mention of Obama National Security Adviser Tom Donilons participation. |

MEMRI: Prominent Sunni cleric supports the demonstrators |
2011-01-28 |
![]() On January 20, 2011, in an interview with Al-Jazeera TV he said that Allah does not remove tyrannical rulers, because it is the duty of the peoples to fight them, and that the security personnel who serve such rulers surely know that it is a grievous sin to protect them and to kill innocent Muslims in their names. He called on the Tunisians to continue their struggle until all members of deposed Tunisian president Zine Al-Abidine Ben Ali's party were removed from power except for Interim President Mebazaa, who he said should remain so that there would be no constitutional vacuum. He concluded by urging the Tunisians to free all political prisoners and bring back political exiles, and to reinstate Islamic customs banned by Ben Ali's secular regime, such as the wearing of the hijab on university campuses. Al-Qaradhawi made similar statements to the Egyptian daily Al-Shurouq, referring specifically to the situation in Egypt. He also declared that it is forbidden for security forces to fire on demonstrators. |

Sharif Backs Scholars' Somalia Mediation |
2009-02-08 |
![]() "I welcome the much-awaited mediation of the IUMS," Sharif told a press conference on Thursday, February 5, in neighboring Djibouti. "The Muslim scholars can play a positive role in Somalia and can resolve disagreements between Somali groups." Sheikh Sharif, the leader of the Islamic Courts Union, was elected Somali president on January 31. But his election drew fire from the Shebab group, once an off-shot of the ICU, and the Eritrea-based opposition, vowing war against Sharif's regime. Fearing a new bout of infighting in Somalia, the IUMS, led by prominent scholar Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, has floated an initiative to mediate between the Somali rivals. "All Somalia should set aside all their political and tribal affiliations, which drove a wedge between them, close their ranks and look forwards for better future," it said in a statement obtained by IslamOnline.net. "They should stand united under the banner of Islam." |
