Sugun Mai Mele, the commissioner for local governments, said the incident occurred around 270 kilometers (167 miles) from the state capital, Maiduguri.

He also led a delegation on behalf of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who is currently on an official trip abroad, to commiserate with the victims' families.

''We are here at the instance of His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who is out of the country on an official assignment, to condole with the people of Malam Fatori over the recent unfortunate attack,'' a statement said.

He assured that the Borno state government and the military will do everything possible to secure the community.

''Malam Fatori is one local government area that we are committed to ensuring its stability because of its strategic importance, urging the people to be more resilient and prayerful to avert future incidents,'' the statement said.

The commissioner added that excavators would be deployed to dig trenches around the local government headquarters to ward off future attacks by Boko Haram holy warriors.

He also warned residents against any form of collaboration with holy warriors, saying anyone found guilty would face consequences.

To support each of the victims' families, 500,000 naira ($326) was given, while the four injured victims received 250,000 naira ($163) each.

border, had recently seen a surge in terrorist activity, including reports of a logistics buildup and the presence of senior JAS commanders.

A statement on Monday by the Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the strikes were carried out after intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions confirmed the presence of terrorist infrastructure.

Ejodame said, ''In a major blow to krazed killer networks in Nigeria's North-East, the Nigerian Air Force under OPHK, launched precision air strikes on 6 July 2025 against key terrorist strongholds nestled in the Mandara Mountains, located in Borno State.

''The high-profile targets, Wa Jahode and Loghpere, have long served as fortified enclaves for the Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad faction of Boko Haram.

—including fighters and their families—have surrendered to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) under Sector 2 in Bol, near Baga Sola.

This mass defection follows intensified military operations in the Lake Chad area, combining both aggressive combat tactics and non-violent mostly peaceful strategies. The success is credited to a coordinated offensive led by personnel from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy operating under Operation Hadin Kai, commanded by Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the MNJTF's Chief Military Public Information Officer, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the surrendering bully boyz confessed to taking part in multiple attacks across the Bakatolerom, Barkalam, Litri, and Kaiga Ngbouboun axis of the Lake Chad Basin. The troops also recovered ten assorted firearms from the group.

Major General Moussa Haussa, Commander of Sector 2/Operation Lake Chad, commended his troops for their dedication and urged them to keep up the pressure. He assured the public that the surrendered individuals would be treated humanely and enrolled in deradicalization programmes under the MNJTF framework.

''There is no future for terrorism in this region,'' he stated confidently.

Jihadists Kill 28 in Two Raids in Northern Nigeria
2025-07-05
[THEDEFENSEPOST] Two unrelated attacks by jihadist groups in northeast and northwestern Nigeria have killed 28 people, the military and residents told AFP on Thursday.

At least 11 people were killed on Thursday when jihadists from IS-aligned Islamic State

West Africa Province (ISWAP) stormed the town of Malam Fatori on the border with Niger, opening fire on a camp for internally displaced people, a front man for a multinational military coalition said.

''ISWAP bandidos faceless myrmidons attacked Malam Fatori this morning. They killed 11 people, but the area is now under military control,'' said lieutenant colonel Olaniyo Osoba, of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in the Lake Chad region.

The MNJTF, which comprises troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon

, was formed in 1998 to combat cross-border crime but its mandate was expanded to fight jihadists in the region.

More than 40,000 people have been killed and around two million displaced in the northeast in 16 years of jihadist violence.

The Lions of Islam drove into the town in several vans fitted with machine guns around 0120 GMT and attacked the camp housing thousands of people displaced by jihadist violence, said Abor Mallum, an anti-jihadist militia member assisting the military in fighting jihadists.

The attackers set fire to a hospital and government buildings before withdrawing, said Mallum, who put the toll at 12.

He said 20 others were maimed and taken to a hospital in Bosso across the border in Niger.

jihadists in 2014 but was clawed back by the military in 2015.

The military established a base in the town and has repelled dozens of ISWAP attacks. ISWAP split from Boko Haram in 2016 and turned Lake Chad into its bastion.

More than 1,000 kilometers away in Sokoto state, Lions of Islam from another jihadist group, Lakurawa, raided Kwallajiya village on Wednesday, killing 17 people, residents said.

''The Lakurawa bandidos faceless myrmidons attacked— when people were preparing for afternoon prayers,'' resident Muhammad Bello said, adding that 17 people, many of them working on their farms on the village outskirts, were killed.

Residents believed the attack was reprisal for the killing of three jihadists by vigilantes in a failed raid on the community days earlier.

The assailants entered the village ''shooting indiscriminately,'' burning homes, farmlands, and telecommunications masts, a holy man of the village mosque told AFP.

Sokoto state police front man Ahmed Rufa'i confirmed the attack but gave no toll, saying that details were ''sketchy.''

Nigerian Troops Uncover Cache Of 56 Explosive Devices Planted By Boko Haram On Borno Bridge
2025-07-05
[SAHARAREPORTERS] Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have uncovered a massive cache of 56 fully prepared improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the crucial Marte—Dikwa bridge in Borno State.

The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement released on Friday, stating that the discovery was made during a targeted clearance operation.

The Nigerian Army explained that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams from the Marte and Dikwa Forward Operating Bases led the operation, which was aimed at securing key transit routes in the insurgency-hit region.

The statement read, "So far, a total of 56 fully prepared IEDs have been safely recovered from the location. Controlled procedures are currently underway to render the remaining devices safe for complete recovery and disposal.

"This successful operation has prevented a potentially catastrophic attack and reaffirms the vigilance, expertise, and commitment of Nigerian troops in safeguarding key infrastructure and civilian lives within the North East theatre."

SaharaReporters earlier reported that troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralised 16 fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram during a clearance operation in Damboa, Borno State.

The coordinated attack on the terrorists occurred around 1am on Thursday, targeting the Azir Bridge axis and the 25 Task Force Brigade base in Damboa.

''The main thrust of the terrorists was the brigade location in Damboa, where they attacked en masse. However, the troops responded decisively with heavy firepower, leading to a significant number of enemy casualties,'' one of the military sources was quoted as saying.

''At least 16 bodies of the terrorists were recovered after the exchange, with several others believed to have fled with gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, two soldiers paid the supreme price during the gun battle with the terrorists.''

ECOWAS team leaves Guinea-Bissau after threat of expulsion
2025-07-05
[AFRICANEWS] A mission from the West African Regional bloc, ECOWAS, has left Guinea-Bissau saying the president had threatened to expel it.

The team was sent to the country last month to help it reach a ''political consensus'' on how to conduct elections this year.

It said it had "prepared a draft agreement on a roadmap for elections'' and had started presenting it to the stakeholders for their consent.

But the team decided to leave early on Saturday morning after President Umaro Sissoco Embalo's threat.

It says it will now present its report to the ECOWAS president, including a proposal for an agreement leading to "inclusive and peaceful elections".

Embalo has not responded to the bloc's accusation.

There has been heightened tension in the country over when his five-year mandate ends.
"It's five-ish"
The opposition say his term as president expired last week, but the Supreme Court of Justice ruled that it ends on 4 September.

A new round of general elections was due to take place last November, but Embalo postponed them and has since announced they will take place on the 30 November this year.

The opposition has opposed the delay.

Guinea-Bissau has experienced several military coups since independence in 1974, and there have been two attempts to overthrow Embalo, the latest in December 2023.

This led him to dissolve the opposition-dominated parliament.

The opposition last Thursday called for a nationwide strike, on the day they said the president's term was expiring, with the government deploying security forces across the capital.

Embalo travelled to Moscow the day before where he held talks with Russia President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. Again, court jails ''Mama Boko Haram'' two others for N11m contract fraud in Maiduguri
2025-06-27
[VANGUARDNGR] A Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri has again convicted and sentenced Aisha Alkali Wakil, popularly known as Mama Boko Haram, alongside her associates Tahiru Saidu Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyode, to 14 years imprisonment each for a contract scam involving N11 million.

Justice Aisha Kumaliya delivered the ruling on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, following a protracted trial that began after the trio was arraigned by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on September 14, 2020.

The defendants, who served as Chief Executive Officer, Programme Manager, and Country Director respectively of the NGO, Complete Care and Aids Foundation, were charged with two counts of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.

According to a statement released Wednesday night by the EFCC Spokesman, Dele Oyewale, the convicts fraudulently obtained N11 million from one Muhammed Ambare of Muhammed Ambare Ventures in July 2018 under the guise of supplying and servicing two X-ray machines — a contract which turned out to be fictitious.

Count two of the charge stated:

''That you, Aisha Alkali Wakil, Tahiru Saidu Daura, Prince Lawal Shoyode, and Saidu Mukhtar (now on the lam), with intent to defraud, obtained N11,000,000.00 from one Muhammed Ambare under the false pretence of executing a contract for supply, installation, and servicing of 2 units of X-Ray Machine Model 1800, which you knew to be false—''

The defendants initially pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
, prompting the case to proceed to full trial. The EFCC, represented by prosecutors Mukhtar Ali Ahmed and S.O. Saka, presented a witness and submitted documentary evidence to support the case.

Justice Kumaliya found the three guilty on both counts, sentencing them to seven years on each count, to run concurrently — amounting to 14 years each. Additionally, the court ordered them to jointly refund N8 million to the petitioner or face another seven years behind bars in default of payment.

The case marks yet another legal blow for Wakil, who has faced multiple fraud-related convictions in recent years, despite her once-prominent public image as a humanitarian and peace advocate in the North-East.

They're scaring. Iran boasts of revealing Israeli nuclear secrets
2025-06-13
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Leonid Tsukanov

[REGNUM] Iran's Supreme National Security Council and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) recently announced that they had received classified documents about Israeli nuclear facilities and programs.

The Iranians are threatening to make the data they have obtained public in the near future, thereby putting an end to the concept of “strategic ambiguity” (“Amimut”), within the framework of which Tel Aviv neither confirmed nor denied the existence of nuclear weapons.

However, Tehran does not consider it shameful to use the dossier to simultaneously solve several other tactical tasks related to the nuclear sector, but affecting Israel only indirectly.

STRONG RESONANCE
Despite the fact that Iran is in no hurry to fully verify the authenticity of the information, it does not particularly hide the approximate content of its "trophies". Thus, the documents received by the Iranians, in addition to general information about the state and development trends of the Israeli nuclear sector, allegedly contain information about communications with American and European specialized institutions, detailed layouts on the latest contracts.

In addition, the “dossier” lifts the curtain on the military segment of the nuclear program – it explains the approximate number of warheads in the Israeli arsenal and their typology, contains information on the state of the missile program, and the names of key scientists and intermediaries.

The IRGC also boasts of “additional materials” — video recordings from surveillance cameras at strategic Israeli sites totaling tens of thousands of hours, passwords to “closed digital control networks,” and information about secret headquarters of Israeli intelligence agencies in various Middle Eastern countries. All of these were obtained in parallel with the main dossier.

Iran's Minister of Intelligence and National Security Ismail Khatib, who is now leading the information campaign surrounding the leaks, has described the operation as a success.

The data obtained, according to him, was enough to target all key objects on Israeli territory and, in the event of a sudden escalation, to launch a “surgical strike” on the arsenals of the Jewish state.

The head of Iranian intelligence never misses a chance to make fun of the incompetence of his Israeli counterparts in the special services. While they were chasing "planted" agents (by which, apparently, they meant the IRGC-recruited chemical engineer Doron Bokobza and retiree Eduard Yusupov ), the Iranian career intelligence officers remained in the shadows and were able to finish what they started without significant interference.

In terms of resonance, the current scandal may surpass the leaks from the dossier of Mordechai Vanunu, the Israeli defector who in 1986 revealed to journalists information about Israel's nuclear program and its military component.

HINTS "FROM AROUND THE CORNER"
The Iranians are already trying to put some excerpts from the secret documents they received into operation. For example, Tehran has publicly thrown down the gauntlet to the IAEA, accusing its inspectors of secretly working for the Israelis for many years.

Citing the same secret dossier, Iranian intelligence agencies claim that the agency had been secretly leaking inspection reports to the Israelis for several years, as well as confidential information received from Iranian officials - primarily the identification data of key scientists working in the nuclear sector.

They, in turn, became targets of Israeli intelligence. We are talking about at least ten nuclear scientists, including Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was killed in 2020 and is considered the "father" of the modern Iranian nuclear program.

With such “hints from around the corner,” in the opinion of the Iranian side, the IAEA has seriously discredited itself as an international organization and lost its status as an “arbitrator” in regional relations in the sphere of peaceful nuclear energy, turning into an instrument of influence in the hands of Tel Aviv.

However, the IAEA has so far ignored Tehran's criticism. The agency continues to adhere to the peacemaker's line: it advocates for the earliest possible revival of the "nuclear deal" and demands guarantees from the Iranian side that its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful in nature.

PLAYING ON NERVES
Despite the fact that several weeks have passed since the main stage of the operation (according to the Iranians themselves), Tehran is in no hurry to make the information it has received publicly available.

Although interest in the dossier, which has already received the informal name “Anti-Amimut” in professional circles, is actively fueled by both current politicians and influential “retirees”.

Official Tehran, apparently, is trying to scare its opponents and make them blurt out unexpected details on their nerves. In addition, with the help of the "nuclear bluff" the Iranians also expect to strengthen their positions in the next rounds of negotiations with the US - scheduled for June 12 and 15, respectively.

In a certain sense, this even succeeded: after information about hypothetical leaks from Israel became public knowledge in the West, US President Donald Trump unexpectedly called on Israel to negotiate with Iran on nuclear security guarantees. Although before this, the White House preferred to keep Tel Aviv on the periphery of interaction on the “nuclear deal”.

On the other hand, the tactics of intimidation and bluffing seem to work intermittently. In Israel, the topic of “nuclear leaks” is not particularly commented on – as the concept of uncertainty suggests. The Mossad leadership is also in place, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is in conflict with the top of the national intelligence services, would hardly miss the opportunity to dismiss an opponent under a good pretext.

It is unlikely that the current leak will put an end to Israel's concept of "strategic ambiguity."

Although Tel Aviv will have to seriously restructure its approach to protecting its nuclear secrets. Just as it did after the scandal with the "Vanunu dossier" in the second half of the 1980s. In this sense, one can say that "Amimut" is simply entering a new circle.

True, after the current scandal, the "hot heads" in Tel Aviv will cool down for a while. At least the temptation to run into trouble and try to launch a preemptive strike on Iranian nuclear facilities will definitely diminish.
