7 troops toes up from roadside bomb in northern Gaza as IDF hits dozens of targets |
2025-07-08 |
IDF identifies two additional soldiers killed in Gaza [IsraelTimes] The IDF releases the names of two more soldiers killed in last night’s roadside bomb attack in northern Gaza’s Beit Hanoun, in which five troops were killed. They are: Sgt. First Class (res.) Benyamin Asulin, 28, of the Gaza Division’s Northern Brigade, from Haifa. Staff Sgt. Noam Aharon Musgadian, 20, of the Kfir Brigade’s Netzah Yehuda Battalion, from Jerusalem. Two soldiers were named earlier. The name of the fifth soldier killed in the incident will be released later. 5 IDF soldiers killed, 14 injured by roadside bomb in northern Gaza [IsraelTimes] Five Israeli soldiers were killed and 14 were wounded by a roadside bomb in northern Gaza’s Beit Hanoun last night, the military announces. Two of the slain soldiers are named as: Staff Sgt. Meir Shimon Amar, 20, from Jerusalem Sgt. Moshe Nissim Frech, 20, from Jerusalem. They both served with the Kfir Brigade’s Netzah Yehuda Battalion. The names of the other soldiers are set to be released later. According to an initial IDF probe, the infantry soldiers were hit by a bomb planted on the side of a road shortly after 10 p.m. on Monday, during ground operations in Beit Hanoun. The soldiers were operating on foot, and were not inside a vehicle. During attempts to extract the casualties, the forces came under fire in the area, according to the probe. Among the 14 wounded, two are listed in serious condition. The military says the area where the attack took place was targeted from the air ahead of the troops’ operations in the area. The Netzah Yehuda soldiers were operating under the Gaza Division’s Northern Brigade, as part of an offensive with the 646th Reserve Paratroopers Brigade in Beit Hanoun, aimed at clearing the area of terror operatives who remain holed up there. IDF says dozens of targets hit in Gaza strikes; terror infrastructure destroyed in ground ops [IsraelTimes] Dozens of targets were struck by the Israeli Air Force in the Gaza Strip over the past day, including dozens of operatives, weapon depots, observation posts, and other buildings used by terror groups, the military says in a daily update. The strikes come as five IDF divisions, made up of tens of thousands of troops, continue to operate across Gaza. During ground operations, the IDF, says troops killed numerous operatives and destroyed Hamas infrastructure, including tunnels, buildings used for terror, anti-tank launch posts, and observation posts. |

J&K: Security Forces Kill A Terrorist After Gunbattle In Udhampur |
2025-06-29 |
Since it’s Kashmir, the terrorist is probably a Pakistan proxy. Story from Friday — just checking in to see if anything has happened since the last big blowup in April. [OneIndia] In a joint operation, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir![]() Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... Police successfully eliminated a terrorist in Basantgarh, Udhampur district. The operation, named Operation Bihali, was conducted by the Army's White Knight Corps. Although the terrorist has been "neutralized," the operation continues. This action was initiated based on specific intelligence received earlier today. Security measures in Jammu and Kashmir have been heightened ahead of the Amarnath yatra. To ensure safety, 180 companies of Central police forces have been deployed. The 38-day pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, located at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the south Kashmir Himalayas, is set to begin on July 3. Pilgrims can choose between two routes: the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag district or the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district. Following the Pulwama terror attack on April 22, which resulted in 26 casualties, anti-terror operations have intensified in the region. Some holy warriors involved were Pak nationals. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror bases within Pakistain. These included Lashkar-e-Taiba ...the Army of the Pure,an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...> 's headquarters in Muridke and Jaish-e-Mohammed's base in Bahawalpur. On May 22, a soldier lost his life during an encounter with holy warriors in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. Four holy warriors were trapped during this incident. This encounter occurred a week after six holy warriors were eliminated in another operation in south Kashmir. Pakistain attempted to retaliate by targeting Indian military and civilian installations using drones and missiles over three consecutive days. However, the hip bone's connected to the leg bone... these attempts largely failed to achieve their objectives. |

Day 3: Boulder jihadi disguised himself as a gardener to approach victims, ICE picks up the fam, videos posted on pro-Hamas Telegram channel of jihadi pre-attack
2025-06-04 | |
[IsraelTimes] Mohamed Soliman says he carried out firebombing to avenge ‘his people’ and hoped to die during the attack; Jewish community announces vigil and fundraising for the victims The suspect in the firekaboom on a rally for Israeli hostages in Colorado on Sunday disguised himself as a gardener to approach the group and has no regrets about the attack that aimed to kill all of the participants at the demonstration, according to an affidavit for an arrest warrant filed by a Boulder detective. The affidavit, filed by a detective who interviewed Mohammed Sabry Soliman after the attack, came alongside a statement filed by an FBI agent who also spoke with the suspect. Soliman is being charged by both state and federal authorities for the attack that maimed 12 in the city of Boulder. Police first heard about the attack when they received a call at 1:27 p.m. about a man with a "blow torch" who was lighting people on fire. Officers arrived at the scene three minutes later. Witnesses directed them to Soliman, who was shirtless, standing on a patch of grass, facing the bystanders and shouting. He was arrested two minutes after officers arrived. Witnesses said Soliman, 45, threw the homemade Molotov cocktails into the crowd, "which burst upon impact, creating large flames," the detective said. Eight people were burned or caught on fire, and four victims with minor injuries later came forward. The victims’ names were redacted. Soliman also used a commercial weed sprayer, mounted on his back and filled with gasoline, as a makeshift flamethrower. The device malfunctioned and caught on fire, prompting Soliman to drop the sprayer and remove his shirt, witnesses later said. Police located a silver Toyota Prius registered to Soliman a few blocks away. Inside were cans of gasoline, rags and a Koran. Soliman, who was lightly injured, told medical personnel that he attacked the group to avenge "his people." Soliman has a valid Colorado driver’s license, lives in Colorado Springs, and has no criminal history in the state. The report said Soliman was born in Egypt, lived in Kuwait for 17 years at some point, and moved to Colorado Springs three years ago. The US Department of Homeland Security said Soliman’s tourist visa expired and he was in the US illegally. Soliman planned the attack for a year and learned to make Molotov cocktails on YouTube. He took a class to acquire a concealed firearms permit and learned to fire a gun, but was unable to buy a firearm because he is not a legal US citizen. He bought glass containers for the Molotov cocktails at a Target, filled them with gas from a gas station he stopped at on his way to the attack, and put them in a black storage bin. Investigators later recovered 16 unused Molotov cocktails from the scene. Soliman told police he only threw two Molotov cocktails at the group "because he got scared." In order to approach the protest group without raising suspicion, Soliman disguised himself as a gardener, wearing an orange vest, carrying flowers he bought at Home Depot, and wearing the weed sprayer filled with gasoline. He waited to carry out the attack until his oldest daughter graduated from high school on Thursday. He searched online for "Zionist groups," found the weekly gathering in Boulder, and attended its first gathering after his daughter’s graduation. He arrived at the scene 10 minutes before the group was scheduled to gather. Soliman said "he wanted them all to die" and that he would "go back and do it again and had no regret." He told the detective that anyone who supports the existence of Israel on "our land," meaning Paleostine, is a Zionist. It was not clear if Soliman has Paleostinian ancestry. Soliman said no one knew about his attack plan, including his family, who had cooperated with Sherlocks. He repeatedly told police that he sought his own death. "He said he had to do it, he should do it, and he would not forgive himself if he did not do it," the detective wrote. "Mohammed described his hopes for everyone in the Zionist group to die." Soliman made similar statements to the FBI, telling an agent he wanted to "kill all Zionist people" and that he had vowed to "do it again." The FBI said Soliman had shouted "Free Paleostine" during the attack. Some legal filings spell his first name as Mohammed. The victims ranged in age from 52 to 88. The 88-year-old woman was the most severely injured and was at death's door after the attack. Her current status is unclear. Soliman has been charged with hate crimes by the federal government and with 16 counts of attempted murder by the State of Colorado, plus additional charges related to the use of incendiary devices. He faces life in prison if convicted. The Boulder Jewish community said in a Tuesday statement that a vigil will be held for the victims on Wednesday. The Boulder Jewish Festival is scheduled for Sunday and will be restructured to focus on the hostages. Details about the event are still being finalized. The Jewish Family Service of Boulder is offering free mental health services to anyone impacted by the attack. JEWISHcolorado, a community group, launched an emergency fundraising effort for the victims. The Boulder Jewish community is working on security with the Secure Community Network, a national Jewish security group, the police and the FBI to protect the local Jewish community center, synagogues and community events. There are no known additional threats to the community. Organizers of the hostages rally, called Run for Their Lives, plan to continue marching for the hostages. More from the Times of Israel about the hostage march: The march attracted about 50 participants a week for the first nine months, and now gets about 30 each time, Amaru said. At certain points, like when the bodies of six hostages were discovered murdered in Gaza at the end of last August, several hundred joined the march, she noted. Marches have always been done in cooperation with police, Amaru said, and the group had requested additional security forces after the murder of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim outside the Capital Jewish Museum on May 21. Neither Amaru nor Shaffer was in Boulder at the time of the attack on Sunday, one of the few times they both missed it, and the event was supervised by an experienced volunteer, they said. Amaru said the weekly march had become an important safe space for pro-Israel residents of Boulder to gather. The city’s estimated 10,000 Jews now comprise about 10 percent of its population, although the majority are not affiliated with a synagogue or are particularly vocal about Israel, she noted. “The people who participate in our Run For Their Lives community have been so aligned in its mission, and really care about Israel,” Amaru said. “We have gotten so much support from the Jewish communities around us since the attack.” However, Shaffer added, the climate of the city is a “cesspool” of violent hatred toward Jews and Israel, encouraged in part by local government officials. “I am deeply angry and profoundly disappointed over the failure of non-Jewish faith groups and other civic organizations to step up to support us,” he said. “Even after the October 7 attack, some individuals paid quiet, polite condolences, but public condemnation has been completely missing in action.” The Boulder municipality issued a statement Monday condemning the attack and pledging solidarity with the victims and members of the city’s Jewish community. City Council Member Taishya Adams, a figure frequently accused of antisemitism by local Jewish representatives, declined to endorse that statement. “I cannot sign into a letter that equates the calls for a ‘Free Palestine’ with antisemitism,” she posted in a comment on the city’s Facebook page. “Without the anti-Zionist part, the reader will fail to understand a key driver of this terrible attack.” Boulder has one of the fastest-growing Jewish communities in the United States, with people from diverse backgrounds coming from all over the US, Amaru noted. “It’s different from a place like Denver, where you have families that have been deeply rooted there for a long time,” she added. Family of Colorado firebombing suspect taken into federal immigration custody [IsraelTimes] The family of the Colorado firebombing suspect, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, has been taken into custody by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), says US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. Soliman, an Egyptian national, came to the US on a tourist visa in 2022. He stayed after the visa expired and was in the US illegally, the department has said. “Today the Department of Homeland Security and ICE are taking the family of suspected Boulder, Colorado, terrorist and illegal alien Mohamed Soliman into ICE custody,” Noem says on X. “Mohamed’s despicable actions will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but we’re also investigating to what extent his family knew about his horrific attack, if they had any knowledge of it or if they provided any support,” she says. Soliman lived in Colorado Springs with his wife and five children. Authorities have said the family is cooperating with the investigation. Pro-terror activists circulate videos backing Colorado attack, urging further violence — ADL [IsraelTimes] Antisemitic, pro-terror US activists are sharing videos purportedly showing the suspect in the Colorado firebombing attack to urge followers toward further violence, the Anti-Defamation League says. The videos are posted on an Arabic-language Telegram channel called Taufan al-Ummah that has 30,000 followers. The name of the channel translates to “Flood of the Muslims” and refers to Hamas’s October 2023 onslaught in Israel, which is referred to as the “Al-Aqsa Flood” by the Palestinian terror group. Yesterday, the channel shared two videos that claim to show the Colorado suspect, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, immediately before the attack. The channel claims to have received the video from a private source who is “close to the hero.” The ADL says the videos have not been verified and should be treated with suspicion, although the underlying purpose — stoking terrorism and antisemitism — is clear. In one of the clips, Soliman says in Arabic: “God is greater than anything. Greater than the Zionists, greater than America and her weapons, greater than F-35 fighters, greater than everything.” In another video, Soliman says: “For my mother, my wife, my children, my sister, my family. I bear witness for Allah and for you, in Allah and his prophet, and for love of Jihad that is greater than the love of you, the world, and everything in it, and with faith in Allah.” Another post in the channel says, in reference to the Colorado attack: “With the simplest tools, you can inflict a heavy toll on the accursed Zionists and seek forgiveness before God. And you can contribute to the nation’s flood that has begun.”

A French taxi app for visiting Israelis is gaining popularity amid rising antisemitism |
2025-04-19 |
Responding to a serious need. [IsraelTimes] As a Jewish woman, Levana has always been anxious about using taxis in France, especially when alone. Those concerns were compounded after the outbreak of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in 2023.“Since October 7, things have become really complicated, the doubts and the fear are really much more intense,” said the 37-year-old French-Israeli. But that was before. For some time now, Levana has found peace of mind in a new taxi application called Monite. “Someone told me about this app, I tried it, and what a joy it is to feel safe. It’s priceless,” said Levana, who now uses it all the time in France. Launched last September by three Franco-Israelis, the app, similar to Uber, offers rides with taxi drivers who have a command of Hebrew and are familiar with Jewish culture. “Many [Israelis] told us that it had become complicated to travel abroad, that they were afraid to say that they came from Israel and felt a bit of insecurity,” said Ilan Amar, one of Monite’s co-founders. The app also quickly became popular in the greater French Jewish community due to a rise in already rampant antisemitism. “The Jewish population of France wasn’t necessarily our specific target,” said Amar. “But in the end, our app was a breath of fresh air for Jews in France who feel unsafe. Unfortunately, it reveals a huge problem in France.” |

Cyber officials say Iranian, Hezbollah attacks against Israel tripled since Oct. 7 |
2025-03-26 |
[IsraelTimes] Deputy cyber defense chief Nitzan Amar says that the intensity of cyberattacks against Israel has tripled since the outbreak of the Hamas war on October 7, 2023, as Iran and its proxies, including Hezbollah, joined hacking efforts. “The last year was not a normal year, but a challenging and unique one,” says Amar speaking at the global Cybertech 2025 conference in Tel Aviv. “Ever since the war broke out, we have observed a major amplification in the scope of Iran and Hezbollah malicious activity targeting Israeli entities.” “Despite our enemies’ efforts, not a single attack targeting an Israeli entity was able to harm neither our national infrastructure, nor the IDF operational freedom to fulfill its missions since October 7,” Amar remarks. Amar cautions that Israel experienced a 300 percent increase in phishing attacks, the highest ever, seeking to “exploit information, Internet of Things (IoT) devices and disrupt the daily life of Israeli civilians.” He listed various types of cyberattacks, including rapid exploitation of newly discovered security vulnerabilities, such as “unprecedented-scale DDoS attacks, and cyber intrusions via Managed Service Providers (MSPs).” “During the war, we began implementing the ‘Cyber Dome’ program to bolster national cyber defense,” says Amar. “We deployed advanced defensive technologies that played a crucial role in mitigating these threats.” Related: Cyberattacks against Israel 04/10/2024 Cyberattacks by Iran, Hezbollah have tripled during the war, says Israel cyber czar Cyberattacks against Israel 05/08/2020 Iran used US servers in cyberattack on Israeli water facilities - report Cyberattacks against Israel 06/27/2019 Netanyahu: Israel used cyber intel. to thwart around 50 ISIS terror attacks around the world |

Man stabbed to death in suspected terror attack at Haifa bus terminal |
2025-03-04 |
[IsraelTimes] Four others hospitalized with moderate to severe injuries; assailant identified as Israeli citizen from Druze community in Shfar’am, reportedly held German citizenship A suspected terrorist stabbed several people at a major Haifa transit hub Monday, killing a man and injuring at least four others, authorities said. The knife attack at the northern city’s Lev Hamifratz bus station appeared to be the latest in a string of terror attacks targeting public transportation in Israel, after a ramming attack at a bus stop on Thursday and a series of botched bus bombings near Tel Aviv a week earlier. The assailant, identified by police as an Israeli citizen from the Druze community, was shot and killed by a bus station security guard and an armed passerby. Family members denied he any terror motive and said he had suffered from mental illness. Hebrew outlets named the attacker as Jethro Shahin, a man in his 20s. Unconfirmed reports claimed he held German citizenship. The victim was identified in reports as Hassan Karim Dahamsheh, a 70-year-old resident of Kafr Kanna, an Arab town in the Galilee. According to police, the assailant stabbed Dahamsheh in the back several times, killing him. Four others were maimed, including a 15-year-old boy rushed to Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The hospital said the teen was stable after undergoing emergency surgery. Three others, including a woman in her 70s and a man and woman in their 30s, were hospitalized with moderate wounds, health officials said. Graphic video of the attack captured by a surveillance camera showed the victim attempting to reach a security booth as the stabbing apparently began. The assailant then rushes the man, tackling him to the ground and repeatedly knifing him until a guard and another man shoot the attacker. An eyewitness told the Walla outlet that the stabber got off a bus from Shfar’am that pulled into the station, shouted "Allahu Akbar" and began stabbing those around him. Police said the assailant was a Druze citizen of Israel from Shfar’am, who returned to Israel a week ago after spending several months abroad. Israel Police chief Daniel Levy said forces were working to verify that the attacker had acted alone. Reports said that police raided the home of the suspected assailant and were questioning his family. It was unclear if he had a criminal record. Shfar’am Mayor Nahad Hazem told the Kan public broadcaster that two of those injured were from his city, one of them a relative of his own office director. "It is a heinous crime, and I completely condemn it," Hazem said. MK Hamed Amar, a Druze politician from the right-wing Yisrael Beytenu party said the attack did not represent the Druze community in Israel, which is largely integrated into society. He described the suspected assailant as a "terrorist with German citizenship who was born and lived in Germany." "Such an act of terrorism is contrary to every moral and human value and certainly does not reflect the loyal spirit of the Druze community in Israel, which is a full partner in defending the state and its values," said Amar, who hails from Shfaram. However, death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate... relatives denied Shahin was a terrorist, saying that he had struggled with mental illness. "I am a disabled IDF veteran and his other uncle is a reserve soldier. We have nothing in our family hostile to the state," the attacker’s uncle Roni Kharis told the Ynet news site. The forum of the heads of the Druze and Circassian authorities put out a statement saying it "stands united and determined against any attempt to harm the security of Israeli citizens." "We are certain that the identity of the attacker and his mental condition will soon become clear, and that the attacker is likely of German origin," the statement read. Acting National Security Minister Haim Katz held a situation assessment after the attack, which occurred at a central transit hub for buses and trains linking northern Israel to Tel Aviv. |

Minneapolis man charged with trying to join the Islamic State group |
2025-03-02 |
[ShabelleMedia] A Minneapolis man who allegedly expressed admiration for the truck attack in New Orleans that killed 14 people has been accused of trying to join the Islamic State![]() Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... group, federal prosecutors announced Friday. Abdisatar Ahmed Hassan, 22, made his first court appearance on a charge of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. He was ordered held without bail until a detention hearing March 5. The chief federal defender for Minnesota, Katherian Roe, said her office will represent him but declined to comment on the case. The criminal complaint against Hassan, a naturalized U.S. citizen, alleges that he tried twice in December to travel from Minnesota to Somalia to join the group but did not succeed. It says he claimed he was going to visit family but had none there. Prosecutors said the FBI’s investigation established that Hassan expressed public support for the group in multiple posts on social media and also praised Shamsud-Din Jabbar on TikTok over the New Orleans attack. Investigators say Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas native and U.S. Army veteran, posted videos professing allegiance to the Islamic State group and an intent to harm others before he plowed a pickup through a crowd of New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street on Jan. 1. Police fatally shot him during an exchange of gunfire at the scene. Hassan also allegedly posted a video last week, of himself driving while holding an Islamic State group flag inside his vehicle. The FBI said it also observed him driving with the flag Wednesday. He was arrested on Thursday. The charging documents also say police in New York notified the FBI last May that Hassan had made social media posts in support of the Somali group al-Shabaab ... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa... . An affidavit from an agent says Sherlocks spotted al-Shabaab and Islamic State group propaganda videos on his TikTok and Facebook accounts. It also alleges that he exchanged messages with a Facebook account that encourages Somali-speaking individuals to travel and fight on behalf of the Islamic State group. FBI agents were watching when Hassan went to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Dec. 13, authorities say. He allegedly tried to check in for a flight to Somalia but left after an airline employee told him he lacked required travel documents. He allegedly tried again Dec. 29. Agents saw him board a flight to reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown ...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel... , where Customs and Border Protection officers interviewed him extensively before his scheduled flight to Æthiopia but did not detain him. He missed the flight and returned to Minneapolis, the affidavit says. Hassan is the latest of several Minnesotans suspected of leaving or trying to leave the U.S. to join the Islamic State group in recent years, along with thousands of fighters from other countries. In 2016 nine Minnesota men were sentenced on federal charges of conspiring to join the group, and a Minnesotan who actually fought for the group in Iraq was sentenced last June to 10 years in prison. Yahoo has a photo of the miscreant here. Mr. Hassan, an ethnic Somali, was born in Kenya to parents from Somalia. He lived in Amarillo, Texas, and moved to Minneapolis in 2023, according to an affidavit from FBI agent Scott Zimmerman, though the document does not say when Mr. Hassan and his family moved to the United States.Related: Minneapolis: 2025-02-19 Fed's shift to 'inclusive' employment goal may be to blame for sticky inflation: economists Minneapolis: 2025-02-18 Delta Air Lines flight upside-down after crash at Toronto Pearson International Airport Minneapolis: 2025-02-17 Former Militant Group Leader, Once a Suspect in an FBI Terror Funding Probe, Now Leads Anti-ICE Protests in LA Related: Shamsud-Din Jabbar 01/24/2025 Slimeballs at ATF caught deploying sneaky tactic to get around Trump's anti-woke purge Shamsud-Din Jabbar 01/23/2025 Government agency [ATF] is caught deploying sneaky tactic to get around Trump's anti-woke purge Shamsud-Din Jabbar 01/23/2025 Homeland Security Committee says 'national security blunders' of past 4 years have emboldened terrorists |

Elation turns to despair as Gazans return to uninhabitable homes in Strip’s north |
2025-01-30 |
Next time don’t start a war with Israel. And especially don’t start with endless atrocities.Really, the Israelis have been quite, quite restrained, given such egregious Gazan provocations. [IsraelTimes] Hamas claims hundreds of thousands have gone back to northern Gaza, as many residents complain about lack of food, water, power and shelterThe joy of thousands of Palestinian families who made it back home to north Gaza amid the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel is turning to despair as the cold reality of uninhabitable, bombed-out homes and dire shortages of basic supplies sets in. Many have begun complaining about a lack of running water that forces them to line up for hours to fill plastic containers for drinking or cleaning. With most homes now heaps of rubble as far as the eye can see, returnees have scoured whatever useful items remain from their property to erect makeshift tents. Take it up with your Masters - Hamas At night, residential districts laid to waste by Israeli airstrikes and shelling during the fighting with Hamas sink into darkness for lack of electricity or fuel to operate standby generators. “There is nothing, no life, no water, no food, no drink, nothing for living. Life is very, very hard. There is no Jabalia camp,” Hisham El-Err said on Wednesday, standing by the ruins of his multi-story house in the biggest and mostly densely populated of the Gaza Strip’s eight historic refugee camps. His extended family is now huddling in tents, which offer scant protection from Gaza’s mid-winter chill. Permission for displaced Gazans to return to the north of the enclave was a key demand by Hamas in the ceasefire that halted the fifteen-month war it started on October 7, 2023, when it led thousands of terrorists to invade southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and abducting 251 who were taken as hostages. Movement from south Gaza to the north began to be allowed on Monday. By late on Tuesday, Gaza’s Hamas authorities said most of the 650,000 people displaced from the north by the war had re-entered Gaza City and the north edge of the enclave from areas to the south where fighting was less intense and destructive. Many of those returning, often laden with what personal possessions they still had after months of being shunted around as battlegrounds shifted, had trekked 20 kilometers (12 miles) or more along the coastal highway. Fahad Abu Jalhoum returned with his family to Jabalia from the al-Mawasi area in south Gaza but the destruction they found was so pervasive they had been forced to go back south. “It’s just ghosts without souls (in the north),” Abu Jalhoum told Reuters back in Al Mawasi. “We all missed the north but when I went there I was shocked. So I returned to (the south) until we get relief from God.” HAMAS, ISRAEL, SPAR OVER PACE OF AID DELIVERIES A Hamas official who spoke on condition of anonymity said smaller amounts of fuel, cooking gas, and tents had been brought into Gaza than what had been agreed in ceasefire negotiations, which Israel strongly denied. The Hamas-run Gaza government media office put the initial need for tents at 135,000, but the Hamas official said only around 2,000 had gotten in since the deal took effect on January 19. He also said work to rehabilitate hospitals and bakeries knocked out by the fighting had not begun and urged mediators to ensure more aid flows in, adding that dissatisfaction among armed groups could affect the truce. A spokesperson for COGAT, the Israeli military agency that liaises with the Palestinians, said that tens of thousands of tents have entered Gaza since the ceasefire and that gas and fuel are being delivered daily in keeping with agreements. Under the deal, 33 hostages held by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza are to be freed in the first six weeks of the ceasefire in exchange for over 1,900 Palestinian prisoners, hundreds of them serving life sentences in Israel for deadly terror attacks. Seven hostages and 290 prisoners have so far been exchanged. Three more hostages are to be swapped for dozens of Palestinian prisoners on Thursday. In addition, five Thai hostages will be freed Thursday by Hamas, Israeli officials confirmed. A second stage of the deal, due to begin by February 4, is meant to open the way to the release of over 60 other hostages, including men of military age, and a full Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza. If that succeeds, a formal end to the fighting could follow along with talks on the monumental challenge of reconstructing Gaza, now widely demolished in a war that killed almost 47,000 Palestinians, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, whose unverified figures do not distinguish between combatants and civilians. In Jabalia, Khamis Amara returned to the ruins of his house to dig for the bodies of his father and brother, among the roughly 10,000 people missing and feared dead in Gaza, according to the local civil emergency service. “I was once under the rubble with my father and brother, just as they still are. But I made it out,” Amara said. “Life here is unbearable. Honestly, it’s all a lie. Those in the south should just stay there — it’s better for them.” |

Inside the [sudden] race for Greenland's mineral wealth |
2025-01-28 |
[BBC] President Donald Trump has said he thinks the US will gain control of Greenland, underlining his persistent claim on the Arctic island, on one occasion pointing to "economic security" as the reason. While the autonomous Danish territory has been quick to say it isn't for sale, its vast and mostly untapped mineral resources are in great demand. Jagged grey peaks suddenly appear before us, as the motorboat navigates choppy coastal waters and dramatic fjords at Greenland's southern tip. "Those very high pointy mountains, it's basically a gold belt," gestures Eldur Olafsson, the chief executive of mining company Amaroq Minerals. After sailing for two hours we stepped ashore at a remote valley beneath Nalunaq mountain, where the firm is drilling for gold. It's also scouring the surrounding mountain range and valleys, hunting for other valuable minerals, having snapped up exploration licences spanning over 10,000 sq km (3,861 sq miles). "We're looking for copper, nickel, and rare earths," says the Icelandic boss. "This is uncharted, and still has the potential to have multiple big deposits." The base camp is a cluster of mobile buildings and bright orange accommodation tents housing more than 100 staff, including Greenlanders, Australians, and British former coal miners. From there a road climbs up the valley, and we drive by car into the gold mine, following a dark tunnel upwards inside the mountain. "See here!" says Mr Olafsson pointing to a seam of white quartz and a thin dark line. "Gold, gold, gold. All the way over. Isn't that extraordinary?" The mine, which Amaroq bought in 2015, had operated for most of the preceding decade, but closed due to then falling gold prices, and high operating costs. Amaroq is confident that the mine will now be profitable. And it plans to ramp up production this year, where it has built a brand new processing plant to crush the ore and refine the precious metal into gold bars. "We can either walk off site every month with a suitcase of gold, versus a 30,000 tonne ship [carrying the ore]," explains Mr Olafsson. He says that Greenland presents an unrivalled opportunity because its huge mineral reserves are largely untouched. "It can be the supplier of all the minerals the Western world will need for decades," adds Mr Olafsson. "And that is a very unique position." |

[IsraelTimes] Israeli players have been barred from next month’s World Indoor Bowls Championships in England after a campaign by pro-Palestinian groups. The decision has been condemned by a local parliamentarian and Jewish representatives. The World Bowls Tour says in a statement the involvement of Israeli bowlers at the Scottish International Open in August had produced “a significant escalation in related political concerns. “As a result of the intensity of the situation, the WBT Board, in consultation with our event partners and other relevant stakeholders, has made the difficult decision to withdraw the invitation for Israel to participate in the forthcoming World Indoor Championships,” it adds. “Bowls is, and always has been, a sport that unites people and this choice reflects our commitment to protecting the championships and ensuring they run smoothly for everyone involved.” The decision removes Daniel Alomin from the singles draw and pairs players Amnon Amar and Itai Rigbi. The Norfolk Palestine Solidarity Campaign says the move was the result of joint action with Scottish Sports for Palestine and Show Israeli Genocide the Red Card. Rupert Lowe, member of parliament for the populist Reform party in the Great Yarmouth constituency that hosts the championships in Hopton-on-Sea, says on X he was “genuinely disgusted” and would fight it. The Board of Deputies of British Jews said there was no justification for an “overt act of discrimination against Israeli participants, who are excluded solely on the basis of their nationality.” World Bowls, the Melbourne-based recognized international federation that organizes the rival World Bowls Indoor Championships, emphasizes that the WBT was not affiliated with them and had made the decision alone. “World Bowls has 60 member countries from across the world including Israel and all of our members continue to be welcome and eligible to participate in all World Bowls-staged events,” it adds.
“Bowls is, and always has been, a sport that unites people and this choice reflects our commitment to protecting the championships and ensuring they run smoothly for everyone involved.”
[IsraelTimes] The World Bowls Tour has reversed its decision barring the Israeli national team from participating in the Bowls World Championships in England next month, Channel 12 reveals. In a letter to the team published by the network, WBT apologizes for the earlier decision. “We would firstly wish to extend our sincere apologies to both you and to PBA Israel, for any upset or offense that we have caused by the withdrawal of the invitation to the three members of PBA Israel in advance of the January 2025 championships. This was absolutely not our intention.
“However, over the past 48 hours, we have been exploring practical ways in which our concerns could be overcome, so as to enable the invitation to PBA Israel to be reinstated. We are pleased to say that following discussions with various partner agencies, we have been able to confirm today an increase in the security presence at the event. The WBT Board is accordingly satisfied that this increased level of security which will be in place is sufficient to be able to welcome the PBA Israel Team to the event starting on 10 January 2025,” the letter continues. “The sole consideration behind this [initial] difficult decision had been the safety and security of all participants, staff and attendees involved in the tournament. Following significant feedback and credible concerns regarding the potential risks posed to,” the WBT chief claims. “We fully understand how upsetting our earlier decision would have been to the competitors from Israel, which is why we have sought to try and find a solution that would enable the invitation to be reinstated.” The Norfolk Palestine Solidarity Campaign had said the earlier move to bar the Israeli team from participating was the result of joint action with Scottish Sports for Palestine and Show Israeli Genocide the Red Card.
