'Regrettable incident': Justice Isa visits Jaranwala, assures Christian community of all-out support
2023-08-20
[GEO.TV] Chief Justice Designate Qazi Faez Isa on Saturday visited Jaranwala to meet and express solidarity with the Christian community after violent mostly peaceful attacks on their houses and churches over alleged blasphemy
...the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence to a deity, or sacred objects, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable. Some religions consider it to be a crime. In Pakistain you can commit blasphemy by looking cross-eyed at a Koran...
allegations.
You wanta express "solidarity?" Show up in church on Sunday.
On August 16, a crowd vandalised several churches and set scores of houses on fire in Jaranwala town of the industrial district of Faisalabad
...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after...
after holy men made announcements in mosques inciting the mob to attack the Christian community under allegations of blasphemy.
"Disrespected our holy idols, they did! Shot the moon at our moon! Then tore up a koran and wrote dirty words on it!"
Paramilitary troops were called in to handle the violence and bring the situation under control, according to a government order seen by Rooters.
Betcha no (zero) holy men were arrested.
The attack sparked outrage on social media and among political and religious figures in Pakistain, who condemned the incident, saying that there was no room for such extreme behaviour.
Seems like there is, since there was.
The Supreme Court's judge arrived in Jaranwala with his wife and visited the Christian colony.
And everybody was ever so glad to see him.
Justice Isa reviewed the situation of the houses and churches that were attacked earlier this week.
And everything's all better now.
"Three days have passed since the incident and the streets are still not clean," said Justice Isa while expressing displeasure with the deputy commissioner and directing him to get the streets cleaned immediately.
"Yeah. Clean up that wreckage!"
Expressing regret over the incident, the senior puisne
I have no idea what that word means.
According to the internet, it’s a senior court judge in the British system who is under the chief justice. Pronounced puny, which goes to show.
judge met the victims, assuring them of all-out support.
Just like they did the last time.
He told the Christian community that they have equal rights as everyone else, adding that all citizens are equal.
"That's right. In Pakistain anybody can form a mob! And does!"
Speaking to the Christian victims, Justice Isa said that it was the duty of Moslems to catch the perpetrators if churches are attacked. He added that Christians have equal rights to build a church as Moslems have to build a mosque.
Moslems have equal rights to burn a church, but Christians don't have equal rights to burn down a mosque.
During his visit, the judge and his wife also provided financial assistance to the victims and distributed food packages among them.
"I am here as a citizen and it is everyone's duty to help you," he told the victims.
Why was it everyone's duty to burn the Christians' houses down?
Those things won’t burn themselves, you know.
34 NOMINATED, 600 UNKNOWN SUSPECTS BOOKED
According to a The News report, the city's police have started the paperwork but haven't done much else against 34 and nominated 600 unknown under 18 sections of the Pakistain Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) following the incident.
But not 34 holy men. And the 600 unknown will probably remain unknown. And the 34 not holy men will get off for lack of evidence or misspellings on the paperwork.
The publication further claimed that 29 nominated suspects have been arrested in connection with the Wednesday rampage.
The other five are still in the mosques, discussing the whole thing with learned holy men.
The police on Thursday also nominated Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
(ASWJ) Jaranwala President Mufti Mohammad Younis Rizvi and Tehrik-e-Labaik Pakistain (TLP) leader Syed Asifullah Shah in the case.
My guess would be they weren't home if the cops arrived to arrest them.
Separately, caretaker Chief Minister Punjab

3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Mohsin Naqvi said both individuals, accused of desecrating the Holy Koran, had been arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
They always manage to get those guys.
'SWIFT ACTION'
Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the SWAT team had finally arrived...
Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch had said Pakistain was fully determined to protect and promote the constitutionally-guaranteed rights and freedoms of individuals belonging to religious minorities.
We can see that. This only happens once or twice a year. Maybe three times. Or four. Not that often, really.
In a statement, she said as a country following law and Constitution, Pakistain could not accept the intolerant and violent mostly peaceful incident in Faisalabad.
In that case, let the "blasphemers" go and make sure nobody bothers them.
She said these acts are illegal and unconstitutional.
But you have a blasphemy law, so holy men gotta use it now and then to show how powerful they are.
"Our law enforcement authorities took swift action yesterday.
"Blindingly swift. We're talkin' speed of light here!"
They have been instructed by the prime minister to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice," she added.
"Caught those blaspheming boogers in a matter of short minutes!"

More than 50 clerics warn govt not to further restrictions on prayer congregations
2020-04-14
[DAWN] Senior holy mans of Wafaqul Madaris al Arabia warned the government on Monday not to further the restrictions on congregations in mosques, which have been imposed to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
Despite the government's pleas to observe social distancing, more than 53 senior holy mans of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, belonging to the Wafaqul Madaris al Arabia, held a meeting in Jamia Darul Uloom Zakria, Tarnol, Islamabad to discuss the matter. The meeting was attended by senior holy mans representing various seminaries, banned groups, proscribed persons and political and non-political parties.

The holy mans' warning has been issued before the government could come up with a plan to curb the spread of the disease during the holy month of Ramazan.

After much deliberation and meetings with religious leaders, the government has banned prayer congregations of more than five people as part of measures imposed to curb Covid-19.

A video clip released by them today showed holy mans belonging to various political and non-political organizations including Jamaat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Aalmi Tanzeem Khatam-e-Nabuwat, seminaries such as Taleem ul Koran Raja Bazar and proscribed persons including a representative of banned group Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat

, sitting in close proximity of each other.

Announcing the decision, Pir Azizur Rahman Hazarvi, president of the Jamia Darul Uloom Zakaria, Islamabad and patron of JUI-F Islamabad said: "The senior holy mans have noted that all efforts will be made to avoid clash and confrontations with the government and the state institutions."

area on Friday afternoon, police and hospital officials said.

New Karachi Station House Officer Majid Korai said three people were riding a cycle of violence when armed pillion riders attacked them near UP Mor and fled.

They sustained critical bullet wounds and were transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Saleem, 32, as dead on arrival, said Dr. Saleem Sheikh, additional police surgeon of the hospital.

Another injured person, Arshad, 35, succumbed to his wounds during treatment, added Dr. Sheikh.

The third person, Azam, 30, was admitted for treatment. His condition is said to be serious.

(ASWJ) Spokesperson Umar Muawiyah told Dawn that the victims were ASWJ workers. While condemning the murders, the ASWJ official claimed that the incident was a murder. The three men were on their way home in Khwaja Ajmer Nagri after offering Friday prayers at a mosque in the area when they were shot.

However,

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central Irfan Baloch claimed that the initial probe revealed that the incident occurred over resistance of robbery.

SSP Baloch said that the dear departed and injured originally belonged to Ahmed Pur Sharqia, Bahawalpur, and were presently residing in North Karachi.

"They did not belong to any religious or political group," said the SSP said, quoting their families.

The area SHO said that the statement of the injured would be crucial to the case. He added that the maimed was not in a position to give a statement at this time.

(ASWJ) chief Mohammad Ahmed Ludhianvi has been removed from the Fourth Schedule, it emerged on Thursday.

The Fourth Schedule is a section of the Anti-Terrorism Act under which someone who is suspected of terrorism is kept under observation; it is mandatory for him or her to register his or her attendance with the local police regularly.

The Fourth Schedule also includes elements found to be or suspected to be involved in anti-state activities, delivering hate speeches and/or activists of religious outfits not yet banned but related to militancy in some way.

Punjab's Caretaker Chief Minister Hasan Askari Rizvi confirmed to Rooters that Ludhianvi had been removed from the watchlist, and that his assets would be unfrozen and travel restrictions on him removed.

The National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) has written to the State Bank of Pakistain (SBP) to unfreeze Ludhianvi's assets after Punjab's Home Department removed his name from the Fourth Schedule, a Nacta official told DawnNewsTV.

"The election commission will decide today in a meeting whether his group can contest the election," Prof Rizvi was quoted by Rooters as saying.

Although the ASWJ, a sectarian outfit, has long been banned in Pakistain, nomination papers of a number of election candidates affiliated with it have been accepted, allowing them to contest the upcoming polls.

The most prominent among them is Aurangzeb Farooqui, who is contesting on a provincial as well as a National Assembly seat from Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
Ludhianvi himself has contested elections in the past and was even briefly declared winner from former NA-89 Jhang after his opponent Sheikh Mohammad Akram was disqualified by an election tribunal in the aftermath of 2013 elections. The Supreme Court had later overturned the order.

The removal of ban on Ludhianvi has emerged just hours after Pakistain was placed on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) 'grey list' a second time for failing to curb terror financing on its soil.

The demonstrators staged a sit-in on the highway to protest the disappearance of ASWJ big shot Maulana Masoodur Rehman Usmani.

Karachi jailbreak
2017-06-16
[DAWN] IN a country still battling violent bandidos bully boyz that have wreaked havoc on society for the past couple of decades, a recent prison break in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
indicates major shortcomings in our counterterrorism apparatus. While it has not yet been determined when the incident occurred as police were informed about it after a considerable delay -- a troubling detail in itself -- the audacious escape of two allegedly ’high-profile Lion of Islams’ from the city’s main jail is alarming. Members of the banned sectarian group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
, the men -- who are still under trial -- are accused of multiple murders. According to an official from the city’s counterterrorism department, one of them has slain 57 people, while the other had carried out seven assassination'>assassinations. As a consequence of the prisoners’ escape, 12 jail officials have been suspended.

It is difficult to overstate the gravity of this security lapse. Some of the most hard-core bandidos bully boyz in Pakistain are incarcerated within the walls of the Central Prison; it was a given that security measures had to be ironclad. The institution is an obvious target for resourceful gunnies on the outside seeking to spring their compatriots from behind bars. In October 2014, law-enforcement personnel discovered members of a banned outfit in the process of digging a 45-metre-long tunnel from within a house in a nearby colony towards a prison barracks housing 100 ’dangerous Lion of Islams’. The men were only 10 metres from their target when they were apprehended. It was claimed in the aftermath of this incident that security at the prison had been further enhanced. How then have two individuals belonging to one of the most violent bully boy groups managed to elude all the measures put in place to keep them under lock and key? Jail personnel have been known to collude with inmates either in return for money or out of fear; that is obviously where the investigation must begin. The delay in reporting the escape also raises questions. In short, every effort must be made to get to the bottom of the incident. There is already far too much evidence that law-enforcement authorities are not as vigilant as they should be about bully boy outfits. Consider the fact that a large number of them still maintain a digital presence unhindered, and that the banned sectarian group Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
is reportedly operating in rural Sindh under a new name. We simply cannot afford to be lax on this front.

Nisar stands his ground over ‘banned groups’ controversy
2017-01-15
Astounding, even for Pakistain.
[DAWN] Defending remarks he made in the Senate earlier this week, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
reiterated on Saturday that he believed there should be separate laws for organizations that are proscribed on the basis of terrorist links and those banned on a sectarian basis.

The minister had caused uproar in the upper house on Tuesday when he tried to distinguish between the two different types of banned

"On one side are clear-cut terrorist organizations; there is no space for them in Pakistain. Their office-bearers or anyone linked to them are either eliminated in encounters, imprisoned or manage to flee across the border. But organizations that are proscribed on sectarian grounds, whose office-bearers have no cases against them, they are still in Pakistain," the minister told news hounds after a public meeting in Kallar Syedan.

"It is unfair to link everything to Maulana Ludhiyanvi," he said, referring to criticism of his meeting with the head of the banned Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat

(ASWJ).

"Those suggesting that I uttered something sacrilegious by saying terrorist organizations and those organizations that were proscribed on the basis of sectarian differences are different have not examined the record," he said, referring to the list of proscribed organizations compiled by the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta).

"Can Allama Sajid Naqvi be linked to any terrorist organization? Can [Syed Hamid Ali Shah] Moosavi be linked to a terrorist organization? No, they are patriotic Paks. But their organizations have been proscribed on a sectarian basis."

"We will need to make separate laws for these two types of organizations. This is necessary to remove confusions regarding who-is-meeting-whom. I ask which Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) leader hasn’t met leaders of proscribed organizations in his time?"

When asked about the disappearance of five civil society activists in the past week, he said efforts were being made to recover the missing men and ensure their return to their families.

He said that in Islamabad, a missing persons report had been filed only over Prof Salman Haider’s disappearance, while the other FIRs were filed in Lahore. He said that incidents of disappearances took time to be resolved, adding that he was personally monitoring the issue.

Talking about the military courts, he said that a fast-track mechanism was needed to ensure that condemned hard boyz should meet their deserved end. He said the fate of the military courts would become clear in a few days.

While commenting on the Quetta commission, he said that that matter would be taken up by the apex court on Jan 19, and a report would be submitted there on Jan 18. He said that a detailed report on the achievements of the interior ministry during his stint of ministry would be submitted.

Soft-pedalling sectarian groups
2017-01-12
[DAWN] CHAUDHRY Nisar Ali Khan’s remarks in the Senate on Tuesday about sectarianism in Pakistain beggar belief. Not only are they out of touch with reality, they are deeply offensive, and -- given he is interior minister of a country involved in a battle against violent religious extremism -- cause for extreme concern. , Ahmed Ludhianvi, who had arrived as part of a Difa-e-Pakistain Council delegation, Chaudhry Nisar said that banned sectarian organizations could not be equated with banned terrorist groups. The Shia-Sunni conflict, he added, went back 1,300 years. His words outraged members of the Senate, triggering a walkout by the opposition.

, the Muttahida Deeni Mahaz, or any of its related incarnations, is based on their responsiveness to local service delivery concerns. We are told they are able to deliver mundane public goods such as access to policing, justice, sanitation, and paved streets better than other local elites. Hence, the time-tested axiom of ’all politics is local’ explains why urban voters in Jhang have been consistently voting for Sunni bandidos gunnies since the mid-1980s.

While patronage politics may be part of the story, it fails to account for the entire picture, especially in instances where opposing candidates are also capable of delivering patronage.

ASWJ chief allowed to contest Jhang by-election

(ASWJ), to contest by-election from PP-78 (Jhang).

The bench headed by Justice Shahid Jamil Khan issued the interim order on a petition of Mr Ludhianvi challenging a decision of a two-judge bench that had disqualified him from contesting the by-poll.

Extending the interim relief to Mr Ludhianvi on the grounds to be announced later, the bench issued notices to the respondents of the case and fixed Dec 14 for further hearing.

Assembly’s constituency had fallen vacant after the Supreme Court disqualified Rashida Yaqoob of the Pakistain Moslem League-N (PML-N) for concealing assets while upholding a decision of an election tribunal in October. She was elected to the assembly in the 2013 general elections and runner-up candidate Mr Ludhianvi had challenged her election.

Then the Election Commission of Pakistain (ECP) announced that it would hold by-poll in the constituency on Dec 1 for which Mr Ludhianvi as well as Ms Yaqoob also filed their nomination papers. However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
this time Ms Yaqoob was an independent candidate.

The PML-N gave its ticket to Sheikh Sheraz Akram. On a petition filed by him, the two-judge bench on Nov 11 restrained both Ms Yaqoob and Mr Ludhianvi from contesting the by-poll.

Mr Akram had argued that the name of Mr Ludhianvi was included in a list of fourth-schedule and more than a dozen criminal cases were registered against him.

He had also pointed out discrepancy in details of the assets provided by Mr Ludhianvi to the ECP in connection with the 2013 general elections and the upcoming by-poll.

At a later stage, Mr Akram withdrew his candidature and was replaced by Haji Azad Nasir Ansari as PML-N candidate.

Mr Ludhianvi had challenged the decision contending that FIRs registered against him were not in his knowledge when he filed his nomination papers. He had requested the court to allow him to contest the by-poll and set aside the two-judge bench’s decision.
