USC fraternity student set free after killing homeless man on school's Greek Row
[NY Post] Black homeless dude Xavier Cerf was burglarizing cars. Gallegos is lucky he's not a white boy.
The University of Southern California student who killed a homeless man during a confrontation over a burglary along the school’s Greek Row won’t be charged over the fatal stabbing, authorities have confirmed.

Ivan Gallegos, 19, of Los Angeles, was booked in to jail on suspicion of murder early Tuesday and held on $2 million bail following the attack Monday night, police said.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges against the business student after finding that he acted in self-defense and reasonably believed the victim, Xavier Cerf, 27, had a gun.

“We believe that Mr. Gallegos’s actions were driven by a genuine fear for his life and the lives of others,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement Thursday.

He has since been released from jail, KTLA reported.

In a charge evaluation document released by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, authorities said Cerf, a homeless man, was seen on security camera video entering a 2010 Mercedes Benz parked near the rear of the fraternity house where Gallegos lives.

Shortly after the car alarm activated, Gallegos, armed with a knife, and accompanied by two other people — one of whom was carrying a large wooden stick, went outside to investigate.

As they approached the car owned by one of their friends, the man refused to get out of the car and locked the door, claiming the car was “calling him” and “had his name,” according to the document, NBC reported.

Moments later, he opened the driver’s door and appeared to be getting out when he told Gallegos he had a gun and reached for his waist, both witnesses told investigators.

Gallegos then grabbed the man’s hands with his left hand and stabbed him in the chest with the knife in his right hand, authorities said.

A struggle ensued and Cerf was stabbed three more times, according to prosecutors.

Cerf died at the scene — an alley behind USC’s Greek Row.

Gallegos, a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, remained on the scene and was arrested, officials said. The teenager claimed he acted in self-defense and that Cerf claimed to have a gun, though police said no firearm was found.

Gallegos, who just finished his second year at the university, is an acclaimed student pursuing a Business Administration and Management degree at USC’s Marshall School of Business. He was profiled just last month by USC’s Annenberg Media, where he described his passion for music and recounted his rough upbringing in East Los Angeles, which inspired him to become a first-generation Latino college student.

“Throughout his childhood, Ivan navigated the realities of both his parents’ involvement in gang activities, leading to their intermittent incarceration,” the report said.

“Despite growing up in an environment saturated with drugs, gangs and prostitution, he focused on music and sharpened his skills to become a multifaceted instrument and vocalist.”

The victim’s mother, Yema Jones, told NBC he was a dancer and comedian who moved to Los Angeles from Texas. He was recently hospitalized for 20 days for an unspecified mental health ailment and had been released the day of his death.

Chicago is so dangerous its progressive mayor has launched a new program to pay murder victims'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] … families $1,500 towards funeral costs.

Chicago has suffered so many murders from gun violence that the city is now offering to pay out $1,500 in funeral costs to help bereaved families.

The funds will be paid out as part of the Emergency Supplemental Victims Fund and will provide families with finances to help bury their loved ones.

Shooting victims can also receive $1,000 to help cover basic needs like their medical and grocery bills - as well as up to $1,000 for temporary relocation costs.

The program already exists in the city after being introduced across five communities in 2022 but is now being expanded to a further 15 across the city.

Mayor Brandon Johnson announced the plans saying the move was a step in the right direction and could help mitigate the gun violence problem. Critics have claimed the creation of the fund is a disturbing sign of just how the Windy City has become.

Five illegal immigrants charged with kidnapping Indiana teen
[FoxNews] US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a detainer for the five men.

Five illegal immigrants were arrested in Missouri early Monday for allegedly kidnapping a teen girl in Indiana.

Officers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol were alerted around 2 a.m. June 17 that a 14-year-old girl was reported missing in Cass County, Indiana.

The girl’s father had witnessed the girl enter a vehicle later determined to be a black Dodge Durango with an unknown registration, according to court documents. The father reported the incident to the Logansport Police Department.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office notified troopers that the missing girl’s cell phone had pinged from the suspects’ vehicle with a Texas registration as it was traveling westbound on U.S. 36 near Hannibal, Missouri.

A Missouri state trooper spotted an SUV that matched the description of the vehicle a short while later and initiated a stop. The trooper found the girl in the back of the SUV, and she identified herself as the teen who was missing. Authorities found no evidence of sexual assault.

All five men in the car were arrested and booked into the Macon County Jail. The suspects are as follows: Marlon Aguilar, 44, of Honduras; Arturo Eustaquio, 41, of Mexico; Noe Guzman Hernandez, 24, of Mexico; Daniel Ruiz Lopez, 19, of Mexico; and Carlos Funez, 56, of Honduras.

Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed to Fox News Digital that the men are all in the country illegally. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detainer for the five men.

All men remain in custody without bail on a charge of felony kidnapping.

The 13th amendment was. It became official Dec 18 1865.

NY social worker who was viciously beaten during home visit dies of injuries
[NYPOST] A Westchester County social worker who was viciously beaten inside a Peekskill apartment building last month during a home visit succumbed to her injuries Wednesday, officials said.

Maria Coto, 56, died more than a month after she was pummeled, allegedly by 31-year-old Hasseem Jenkins — leaving her with severe brain swelling and bleeding, authorities said.

Coto was checking on a client when the unprovoked attack unfolded.
Hasseem Jenkins was arrested following the assault. Hasseem Jenkins was arrested following the assault. CBS

Before Coto died, Jenkins was expected to face charges of attempted murder and assault with intent to cause physical injury, according to online records.

The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday it will pursue "all appropriate charges given the change in circumstances."

"The WCDAO sends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Maria Coto on the news of her passing," said the district attorney’s office.

Coto knocked on the wrong door during the visit before the brutal assault, CBS 2 NY reported, citing neighbors.

Jenkins "repeatedly punch[ed] Coto with his fists and did repeatedly kick Ms. Coto with heavy boots... above the head and body causing Ms. Coto to sustain severe brain bleed, swelling of the brain, and multiple facial fractures," according to an criminal affidavit obtained by The Post.

"We are deeply heartbroken to learn of the tragic passing of Maria Coto," Latimer said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Maria was a dedicated employee of the Westchester County Department of Social Services, who was brutally attacked while selflessly performing her duties. It is enraging that someone whose life was devoted to helping others was viciously taken from her friends and family."

"While we are committed to ensuring that justice is served in this case, at this moment, we wish to only focus on remembering Maria for her warmth, courage and commitment to doing good and helping people," Latimer went on to say.

"Today, we all mourn her loss and grieve alongside her friends and family."

Donald Sutherland breathes his last at 88
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Hollywood icon Donald Sutherland has died at the age of 88.

The veteran Canadian actor's death from a long illness was announced by his movie star son Kiefer Sutherland Thursday.

He died in Miami, according to his talent agency CAA.

No further details were immediately available.

Sutherland's career spanned over 60 years. He saw a resurgence in popularity with a younger audience in recent years thanks to his role as the evil President Snow in The Hunger Games franchise.

The Emmy and Golden Globe winner made a name for himself long before that, appearing on M*A*S*H, Klute and the 1970s horror movie Don't Look Now.

Premature baby born 24 weeks early heads home after 147 days at hospital: 'Defied all odds'
[NYPOST] A premature baby who was delivered 24 weeks early and weighed less than two pounds was finally sent home Wednesday after spending 147 days in the neonatal intensive care unit on Long Island.
As in she was in her fourth month.
Shyne Graham "defied all odds" when she was born six months ago — and well before her due date at NYU Langone Hospital — Long Island, said NICU nurse manager LaShon Pitter, who helped set up a heartwarming graduation for the adorable infant and her family.

"We are excited just as much as they are that the baby is going home," Pitter said on PIX 11.

Little Shyne was born a mere one pound and 11 ounces, and was forced to spend more than 20 weeks in the hospital, the hospital said.

During her stay, she had to breathe through a tube and had to overcome three infections, including strep throat and E. coli, according to the station.

The decision was backed by the court’s three liberal justices, and five of six conservatives, with only Clarence Thomas dissenting.

Masters of the Green: The Black Caddies of Augusta National
[G&G] For almost fifty years, they carried the bags of golf legends but also masterminded victories from the tees to the holes. Then, with one decision, their lives shifted, and the legacy of their glory days went unheralded. Finally, that’s changing

In a small cardroom at the back of a municipal golf course clubhouse in Augusta, Georgia, a handful of old men gather and reminisce.

Do you remember when...? How about that time...? What about when Willie Peterson wound up on the cover of Sports Illustrated back in seventy-two? Wasn’t that something?

All prompts, meant to bring back sweet memories. As they deal cards, the men talk about their golf games and trade good-natured jabs. They have known one another for more than sixty years, gave one another their nicknames.

Jim "Big Boy" Dent. Robert "Cigarette" Jones. Tommy "Burnt Biscuits" Bennett. Ike "Stabber" Choice.

As long as ailments don’t keep them confined to the house, they can be found here a couple of days a week, playing bid whist, ribbing one another, and recalling the days when they were part of Augusta National Golf Club’s all-Black caddie corps, which players were required to use during the annual spring Masters Tournament. From the competition’s inception in 1934, the caddies—born of Augusta and attuned to the land—could be a golfer’s secret weapon coming around Amen Corner or for surviving other notoriously tricky holes like No. 4, Flowering Crab Apple, or No. 10, Camellia.

Abandoned Marine died alone at Maine nursing home ‐ then hundreds of strangers showed up to his funeral
[NYP] An abandoned US veteran who died alone in a Maine nursing home was given a proper goodbye Thursday by hundreds of kind-hearted strangers.

Former Marine Gery Brooks’ burial at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta was marked by a 21-gun salute, a pilot who performed a flyover, a motorcycle escort and full honors thanks to the help of multiple military groups from across the state.

"It’s an honor for us to be able to do this," Jim Roberts, commander of the VFW post in Belfast, told the Associated Press.

"There’s so much negativity in the world. This is something people can feel good about and rally around. It’s just absolutely wonderful."

Britain
Don't blame us for people suffering
[BBC] The cyber-criminals responsible for causing major disruption at London hospitals say they are “sorry" for all the harm caused but are “not to blame”.

The ransomware gang spoke to the BBC on encrypted chat service qTox attempting to justify the attack as a form of political protest.

Qilin, which has a well established record of attempting to extort money, claims in this instance it carried out a cyber-attack as revenge for the UK government’s actions in an undisclosed war.

Experts are sceptical, however, with Jen Ellis, from the organisation Ransomware Task Force, telling the BBC that "cyber-criminals like this gang lie routinely."

“Where they are from and why they have carried out the attack is secondary to the harm being caused right now to patients and hospital staff,” she added.

The hack has led to more than 1,000 operations and appointments being postponed and a critical incident being declared.

“Yes we know about the situation,” the hackers said, speaking in broken English.

“We are very sorry for the people who were suffered because of it. Herewith we don’t consider ourselves guilty and we ask you don’t blame us in this situation.”

The hackers said the UK government should be blamed as they were not helping in the unspecified war.

The gang, which is thought to be based in Russia, like many ransomware crews, would not say where it was.

It said the UK government “don’t even put a penny on the lives of those who fight on the front edge of free world”, which is reminiscent of language used to describe Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s invasion.

But it might also refer to Russian troops fighting against Ukraine.

The group says it chose to attack blood test firm Synnovis, which is used by two London NHS trusts, deliberately.

“Our citizens are dying in unequal combat from a lack of medicines and donor blood”, it said.

Researchers have previously said Qilin posted adverts for hackers to join its criminal service in Russian.

It would be unusual but not unprecedented for Qilin hackers to be in Ukraine, which has seen many alleged ransomware hackers arrested in recent months.

It is very rare for hackers to be arrested in Russia as the government there refuses to co-operate with Western law enforcement requests.

Qilin refused to be more specific about its political allegiance or geography "for security reasons".

This is the first time that the crew has claimed to have a political motive for its hacks - Qilin has been tracked since 2022 in which time it has carried out criminal hacks against schools, hospitals, companies, councils and healthcare organisations.

The fast food joint’s iconic cowboy hat sign was captured by FOX 11’s SkyFOX camera on Tuesday reading, "Farewell Hollywood. TY for 55 great years."

The restaurant, near Bronson Avenue, closed on Saturday, according to local reports.

In Poland, a MiG-29 flying at supersonic speed tore off the roofs of houses
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The shock wave caused by the flight at supersonic speed of the Polish army MiG-29 aircraft tore off several roofs of houses in the village of Szalenets in northern Poland, the joint command of the Armed Forces of the Republic reported on the social network X on June 20.

The report notes that during a training flight, the MiG-29 from the 22nd Tactical Aviation Base exceeded the speed of sound at an altitude of 1,000 feet (304.08 m). The impact of the sound wave damaged the roof coverings of several buildings.

The military gendarmerie and air accident investigation commission are examining the incident, and the army has pledged to reimburse the cost of repairs to the buildings.

As Regnum reported, in April 2024, the Polish Ministry of Defense suspended all military exercises on the territory of the republic after the death of five servicemen.

In early March, a tracked vehicle ran over two soldiers during a training exercise; at the end of the same month, two people died from injuries sustained in a TNT explosion at a military training ground in Silesia. In April, it became known that a Spanish soldier had died as a result of an accident that occurred during the NATO tactical live-fire exercise Saber Strike in Poland.

"Deal's Off", Canadian Officials Tell China
[ZeroHedge] China’s recent attempt to secure a rare earth minerals stockpile ended in failure when a competitor stepped in to snag the deal...

Vital Metals, a mining firm based in Australia, announced Monday that minerals collected from its Saskatchewan-based Nechalacho Project will remain within Canadian borders.

“We were presented with a case of elevated interest for Canada,” Vital’s managing director Geordie Mark told The Northern Miner, later adding:

“This agreement highlights the strategic value and importance of the Nechalacho rare earths project and the prioritization of a rare earths value chain in Canada.”

According to Vital, the Nechalacho site in northern Canada could hold more than 200 million tons of rare earth elements (REEs), which are used in green energy production and weapons manufacturing. Right now, China dominates the industry despite its comparatively small natural stock, clinching 75% of the global market with only 35% of the global REE reserves.

“China was only able to establish such dominance over the REE industry in part because of lax environmental regulations,” said Harvard Independent Review’s Jaya Nayar.

“Low cost, high pollution methods enabled China to outpace competitors and create a stronghold in the international REE market.”

That’s because rare earths can indeed produce green energy—but only after generating 2,000 times their weight in catastrophically toxic waste. Many Western nations refuse to accept this tradeoff inside their own borders, imposing heavy regulations on domestic REE producers that keep exporters like China competitive despite high asking prices.

What’s pushing Canada to allow REE mining and reap the profits, despite environmental risks?

The answer lies within the Canadian critical minerals list, which includes REEs and 33 other elements/elemental groups deemed strategically and economically significant. A recent expansion of the list added high-purity iron, phosphorus, and silicon, which—like REEs and 20 other elements on the list—are key components of the green energy transition. This update, plus the last-minute swoop to protect REE supplies, gives a glimpse into the role “green” policy will play and foreshadows increasing pressure on component supply chains. If other countries follow Canada’s example, prices of related metals on that critical list—including cobalt, platinum group metals, REEs, silicon, and copper—could see significant boosts. That’s a bet Canada is placing early by securing its access to REEs while cutting China out of the deal.

The recent Canadian purchase from Vital is also part of a larger economic and political salvo led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who told reporters there will be no reconciliation between Canada and China following accusations of election meddling. On the mining stage, Canada is marketing itself as a direct competitor to China, flaunting its enormous mineral reserves as an alternative source for wary European countries afraid to rely on Chinese producers. China’s dominance won’t be shaken by missing a single deal with the Australian firm, though the move certainly sends a message calculated to exacerbate already strained relations between China and the West.

As if its challenge weren’t clear enough, Canada recently joined the U.S., Japan, and the Philippines to conduct military exercises in the South China Sea. Tensions between the four countries are on the rise, and economics is the prime battlefield. With REEs as a strategic focus and green energy policies on the Western docket, nations may put pressure on each other by sanctioning or otherwise straining metals supply chains—a move strategists on both sides will surely consider. With two of the world’s largest holders of rare earths reserves vying for stockpiles, the pressure on consumer countries to pick sides is growing, and this new symptom of conflict in the metals market will likely boost REE and related metal prices as countries stock up while supplies last.

It’s not just rare earths that will see gains. Silver, though not deemed “critical,” is a component of electric vehicles and other “green” technologies that governments (and private investors) will likely snap up in anticipation of tighter supply. Stress on metals supply chains is part of gold’s lifeblood, suggesting higher prices for this metal as well.

The Great Replacement 'Theory' NO MORE
[Project Veritas via Gateway] A State Department official has been caught on camera admitting the truth behind the ’Great Replacement Theory.’

This theory is often dismissed by the far-left as "one of the most dangerous white supremacist conspiracy theories out there."

They argued that the "Great Replacement conspiracy theory is a white supremacist, xenophobic, and anti-immigrant concept that posits white people are being replaced by immigrants, Muslims, and other people of color in their so-called "home" countries."
Check your latest TV commercial viewing.
The footage, recorded by Project Veritas, exposes a chilling reality: the Biden regime is knowingly allowing criminals into the United States to change the country’s demographics.

The video showcases Dan Fitzgerald, a Country Coordinator for the U.S. State Department, discussing the motivations behind the immigration strategies being pushed on Capitol Hill.

“The big issue for the Hill for our region is immigration,” Fitzgerald states. He reveals that despite significant investments in Central America—approximately $4 billion over four years—immigration patterns have shifted, with a growing number of migrants now arriving from places like Venezuela.

The Project Veritas reported:

Daniel Fitzgerald, a State Department Official responsible for allocating U.S. foreign aid across the Western Hemisphere told a Veritas investigative journalist that the U.S. State Department will be forced to answer to Congress for its failure to slow migration from Central America.

He describes failed efforts to pour ‘four billion over four years’ into Central America as part of the Biden Administration’s “Root Causes Strategy.” Under this plan, Washington provides foreign assistance to Latin American countries in order to preemptively relieve hardships that would trigger migrants to abandon their countries for the U.S. However, Fitzgerald shares that the plan isn’t working because migrants are now coming from new countries they didn’t account for.

“Migrants are coming from elsewhere, like Venezuela. So, we’re like, this [the Root Causes Strategy] doesn’t solve that problem.”

Fitzgerald admits that while he didn’t originally see illegal immigration as a concern, his mind has changed and those who raise issue with unchecked immigration are ‘on to something.’

“In my mind, I’m like oh, it’s not that much [illegal immigration]. And then I see the chart, I’m like oh that’s a lot compared to twenty years ago.”

When is the first US presidential debate between Biden and Trump?
[BBC] WHEN AND WHERE IS THE DEBATE?
The debate begins at 21:00 EST (01:00 GMT) on Thursday 27 June.

It takes place live on CNN from Atlanta, Georgia.

The event will also be aired on CNN International, CNN en Español, CNN Max and the CNN website.

Stay tuned for the BBC's coverage and analysis on our live blog.

WHAT ARE THE RULES?
Veteran CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash will moderate the debate.

The network says it will last 90 minutes and include two commercial breaks.

The two candidates flipped a coin on Thursday to determine their podium placement and the order of their closing statements.

The Biden campaign picked tails, and the president has elected to appear at the podium on the right hand side of the screen, with Trump to his left.

But the former president will get the last word at the debate, as he opted for Mr Biden to deliver his closing statement first.

Both candidates will stand for the debate. Reports suggesting that Mr Biden requested a seat for the event are inaccurate, according to his campaign.

Campaign staff are not allowed to interact with either candidate over the course of the event, including during each break.

Each man will be given a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water - but no props or pre-written notes are allowed on stage.

Unlike in their previous showdowns, the candidates will have their microphones muted except for when it is their turn to speak.

There will also be no studio audience - and CNN intends to "enforce timing and ensure a civilised discussion".

This is the earliest televised US general election debate since 1960. It is also the first one since then to not be organised by its traditional host, the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD).

Kickapoo Joy Juice kills 34 in India's Tamil Nadu; over 100 hospitalised
[GEO.TV] In a tragic incident in India, a batch of toxic illegal alcohol has claimed the lives of at least 34 people, with over 100 others hospitalised, Tamil Nadu state officials reported on Thursday.

The deadly mix of locally brewed arrack drink was laced with poisonous methanol, Chief Minister MK Stalin said, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.

Stalin said arrests had been made over the deaths and warned such crimes "ruin society and will be suppressed with an iron fist," according to a statement from his office.

Hundreds of people die every year in India from cheap alcohol made in backstreet distilleries.

To increase its potency the liquor is often spiked with methanol which can cause blindness, liver damage and death.

In the Tamil Nadu case, more than 100 people were hospitalised according to MS Prasanth, a top government official in the state's Kallakurichi district, quoted by Indian media.

State governor RN Ravi was "deeply shocked" at the deaths, adding that "many more victims are in serious condition battling for (their) lives", writing on social media platform X.

Tamil Nadu is not a dry state, but liquor traded on the black market comes at a lower price than alcohol sold legally.

Selling and consuming liquor is prohibited in several other parts of India, further driving the thriving black market for potent and sometimes lethal backstreet moonshine.

Starliner stuck on ISS for several more days due to engine problems
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

I think the word the writer is looking for is marooned.

[Regnum] NASA and Boeing have again delayed the return of the Starliner capsule to Earth due to ongoing problems with the engines and helium leaks, writes the British newspaper Daily Mail.

The mission of the spacecraft, which was originally scheduled to undock from the International Space Station (ISS) on June 18, was last week extended until at least June 22. Now NASA and Boeing experts have decided that the ship will remain in low-Earth orbit until at least June 26.

According to them, the ship's long stay in orbit will provide more time to study the key problems that Starliner encountered during flight - malfunctions of the attitude control engines and helium leaks. These problems are recorded in the service module, which does not return to Earth and must burn up when the ship enters the atmosphere. Of the 87 tests planned for the expedition, 77 have already been completed, the remaining ten will be carried out during undocking and landing.

On June 5 at 17:52 Moscow time, an Atlas V rocket with a manned Starliner spacecraft launched from the Cape Canaveral Cosmodrome in the US state of Florida. On board for the first time were NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams. The ship docked with the Harmony module of the American segment of the ISS on June 6, at approximately 20:33.

Experts say NASA may be forced to launch a rescue operation, which would be a huge blow for Boeing, which has faced many problems associated with its commercial aircraft, the newspaper writes. According to the agency, the Starliner capsule is safe for astronauts, and they will still try to return them to Earth using this ship.

The first manned launch of the Starliner spacecraft to the ISS was postponed on May 7. The reason for the cancellation of the launch was a malfunction of the oxygen valve of the second stage of the launch vehicle. Due to problems with the spacecraft, the astronauts were delayed on the ISS on June 1. A similar situation occurred on June 15.

In 2022, at that time, the General Director of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, announced that the state corporation would not allow Russian cosmonauts to fly on American Starliner spacecraft, since it could not risk their lives.
