AP: US is looking for countries in Africa to station troops after withdrawing from Niger and Chad
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] After the forced withdrawal of American troops from bases in Niger and Chad, the United States is looking for ways to deploy its armed forces in other African countries in order to strengthen its military presence on the continent. This was announced by the Chairman of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, Charles Brown.

According to the Associated Press, this issue will be a key issue that will be discussed this week by the heads of defense departments in Botswana, where Brown arrived on a visit. The possible transfer of troops to other West African countries will also be an important topic.

“There are other countries in the region where we already have either a small presence or established relationships,” Brown noted.

He added that Washington will continue to develop these relationships with other African countries, which could allow the US to station in some of them the forces it had in Niger.

A source in the US Department of Defense told the publication that the withdrawal of American troops and the removal of US equipment from Niger was completed by 30%, its completion was scheduled for September 15. There are now 600 American troops remaining in the country.

As Regnum reported, US plans to withdraw troops from Niger became known in May. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced this in the Senate, without giving a time frame. Two days later, Politico reported that the Pentagon had ordered all troops to leave the African country in the coming months.

The Niger authorities in mid-March deprived the American military of the opportunity to be on its territory, breaking the military agreement with the United States. According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, Mohamed Tumba, Niger is interested in the country’s troops being trained by the Russian, and not the American, military.

A month and a half later, on May 3, Reuters reported that the Russian military entered the air base in Niamey, which is why the American contingent based in the republic declared increased combat readiness.

In June, the United States officially began withdrawing its troops from Niger. As the chief of staff of the republic's ground forces, Colonel Mamane Sani Kiau, reported on June 8, 269 American troops and 946 tons of military equipment have already left the country.

Earlier, the National Council for the Defense of the Fatherland (CNSP) informed that American troops would leave the republic no later than mid-September. The Niger authorities gave the Americans permission to fly and land military aircraft.

The United States tried to the last to maintain a military presence in Niger, and the authorities in Niamey had to begin deploying the Russian contingent before the Pentagon removed its personnel. At the same time, with the departure of the Americans, it is likely that Niger’s military cooperation with Russia will further deepen. Ivan Loshkarev, a researcher at the Center for the Study of Political Elites at the Institute of International Studies at MGIMO, shared this opinion with a Regnum correspondent.

Part of Kenya's parliament burns as thousands of protesters enter. Bodies seen after police bullets
[ABC] Part of Kenya’s parliament building has been burned after thousands of protesters against a new finance bill entered and legislators fled

NAIROBI, Kenya -- Part of Kenya's parliament building was burned Tuesday as thousands of protesters against a new finance bill entered and legislators fled, in the most direct assault on the government in decades. Journalists saw at least three bodies outside the complex where police had opened fire.

Protesters had demanded that legislators vote against the bill imposing new taxes on a country, East Africa's economic hub, where frustrations over the high cost of living have simmered for years.

But lawmakers voted to pass the bill, then fled through a tunnel as protesters, many of them youth, outmaneuvered police to enter parliament. Protesters allowed opposition legislators who voted against the bill to walk out of the besieged building. The fire was later put out.

One person shot dead was wrapped in a Kenyan flag and carried away. Chaos began to spread to other communities in the country.

Kenya's government had no immediate comment, and internet service in the country noticeably slowed. President William Ruto was outside Nairobi attending an African Union retreat. He had been expected to sign the finance bill into law this week and has two weeks to act.

The office of the Nairobi governor, a member of the ruling party, was also briefly on fire Tuesday, with smoke pouring from its white facade. The office is located near parliament. Police water cannons were used to extinguish the fire.

Protesters could be heard shouting, "We’re coming for every politician."

Police also fired live ammunition and threw tear gas canisters at protesters who sought treatment at a medical tent set up at a church near the parliament complex. Elsewhere, Kenyatta National Hospital said it had received 45 "victims," though it was not immediately clear if any were dead.

The Kenya Human Rights Commission shared a video of officers shooting at protesters and said they would be held to account, and it urged Ruto to issue an immediate order to "stop the killings."

Hundreds of Kenya's police officers, long accused of abuses by human rights watchdogs and others, arrived Tuesday in Haiti to lead a United Nations-backed multinational force against the powerful gangs who have the country in its grip. The deployment faces a legal challenge in Kenya but Ruto's government has gone ahead, with the thanks of U.S. President Joe Biden.

On Sunday, Ruto tried to calm the rising public tensions over the finance bill, saying he was proud of the young Kenyans who had come out to exercise their democratic duty. He said he would engage the youth on their concerns.

But youth last week announced they were uniting to keep the government in check as prices for fuel, basic foods and other necessities have soared. In Nairobi, a regional hub for expatriates and home to a major United Nations complex, the inequality among Kenyans has sharpened along with long-held frustrations over state corruption.

As throngs of protesters rushed through the streets on Tuesday, defiance emerged elsewhere in the country. Protesters tried to storm the State House in the western city of Nakuru, a witness said. They also burned ruling party offices in Embu in central Kenya, the Nation newspaper reported. Citizen TV showed footage from Nyeri in central Kenya with police confronting protesters in the smoking streets.

Another media outlet, broadcaster KTN, issued a statement saying that "we have received threats from the authorities to shut us down" as coverage continued.

Two people died in similar protests last week, and civil society groups have raised the alarm about a crackdown.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
American researchers note the connection between militants in Dagestan and IS
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

The Caucasian cell of the Islamic State is involved in militant attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala, according to researchers from the American Institute for the Study of War.

As the Caucasian Knot reported, on June 23, churches and security forces were attacked in Derbent and Makhachkala, six suspected militants were killed, more than 15 security officials and several civilians were killed. Today the authorities have lifted the counter-terrorist operation regime.

Let us recall that in June 2015, the Islamic State announced the creation of its branch in the North Caucasus. This statement was made after the Caucasian militants swore allegiance to the leader of IS.

Behind the militant attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala is the Vilayat Caucasus cell, a division of the international terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) banned in Russia by the court, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) announced on June 23 on its website.

The North Caucasus branch of the Islamic State, Wilayat Caucasus, likely carried out a complex and coordinated attack on churches, synagogues and law enforcement agencies in the Republic of Dagestan on June 23, according to a release published on the ISW website.

Pro-IS sources released a statement on June 23 following the attack, praising "their brothers in the Caucasus" for demonstrating what they are capable of. These sources did not claim responsibility for the attack itself, but the report "strongly suggests" that Wilayat Kavkaz was responsible for the attack, the researchers said.

The institute also noted that the SCO regional anti-terrorism structure had previously warned about increased recruitment activities in the North Caucasus, as well as about the increased activity of the “Vilayat Caucasus”* after the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall.

On March 22, armed people broke into the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Krasnogorsk near Moscow, opened fire and committed arson. The FSB classified the incident as a terrorist attack. As of April 6, 11 people were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the terrorist attack. According to official data, as of April 5, 145 people were killed in the terrorist attack.

The National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) stated that those detained during the counter-terrorism operation in Makhachkala and Kaspiysk were planning terrorist attacks; they were found with automatic weapons, ammunition and an improvised explosive device. Four people detained during the counter-terrorism operation in Dagestan supplied money and weapons to the participants in the attack on Crocus City Hall, and also prepared a terrorist attack themselves. Those detained in Dagestan were arrested until June 1  in the case of participation in a terrorist organization and illegal arms trafficking.

Veterans of special services called the attack of militants in Dagestan a failure of the security forces
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

The attacks by militants in Dagestan were a failure of the security forces, who did not pay due attention to preventive work, said veterans of the special services interviewed by the Caucasian Knot. The attackers' actions were similar to the tactics of Islamic State militants*, they noted.

As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, at 18.00 Moscow time on June 23, the Christian holiday of the Holy Trinity, militants attacked an Orthodox church and synagogue in Derbent, and a traffic police post in Makhachkala. One of those killed by the security forces was the nephew of the head of the Sergokalinsky district, Ali Zakarigaev, who headed the district branch of A Just Russia. The head of the district, Magomed Omarov, was expelled from United Russia and relieved of his post after the militant attack. Omarov’s sons, like his nephew, are involved in militants, the head of Dagestan said today.

As a result of the attack, 15 security officials were killed, as well as four civilians, including an Orthodox priest, Sledkom reported today. According to later data from the Dagestan Ministry of Health, 20 people were killed and 46 injured as a result of the attack. The "Caucasian Knot" has prepared a report " Attack on a church and synagogues in Dagestan."

Judging by the available information, the attack was prepared in advance, convinced military expert, captain of the first rank of the reserve Vasily Dandykin. “It just doesn’t happen that terrorist attacks occurred in two cities simultaneously that were not prepared in advance. Apparently, they prepared for a long time, did some work and were able to carry out this monstrous act. It seems that these were prepared people, perhaps even with experience fighting," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He did not rule out that the militants could be associated with the Islamic State. “The investigation will tell who exactly they were connected with, but judging by what I saw, it resembles ISIS. I think they are somehow connected. These attacks are similar to attacks by ISIS in different cities of the world. And it is noteworthy that they were attacked objects of religious worship. This is also their handwriting,” he noted.

The verses of the Koran, references to which were left by the attackers at the synagogue in Derbent, are interpreted by extremists to justify confrontation with Jews and Christians, religious scholars Leonid Syukiyainen and Dmitry Mikulsky pointed out. The date of the attack on the temple was chosen by the militants because of the Christian holiday celebrated on that day, they suggested.

According to the expert, the murder of more than 15 security forces indicates “certain problems” in the fight against militants and terrorism in general. “In my opinion, the killers turned out to be more professional than the security forces who initially appeared in front of them and tried to neutralize them. Then a large number of forces were concentrated, and the militants were left no chance. But the number of our security forces killed suggests that there are certain problems, shortcomings, there is something to think about and something to work on.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs talked about the lack of personnel, especially after the start of the Northern Military District, when many went to fight. The main thing here is to work to identify and detain militants; operational work is more necessary than counter-terrorism operations. shoot at them, and identify and carefully detain them even during the planning of such terrorist attacks,” Dandykin is sure.

He also added that law enforcement agencies should have more carefully guarded religious sites in Dagestan. “The attack on synagogues in Dagestan after recent anti-Semitic actions could have been prevented, as well as on the church. On the eve of such a holiday as Trinity, it would be worth sending security there, for example, guys in civilian clothes, let them be on duty and control the situation. This is a big drawback,” emphasized Vasily Dandykin.

The number of killed security forces speaks volumes about the failure. These are serious losses

The president of the Association of Veterans of the Alpha anti-terror unit, Sergei Goncharov, considered the attacks in Makhachkala and Derbent a failure of the security forces. “Not that it can be considered [a failure], it is what it is. If it is confirmed that the militants were the sons of a Dagestan official, then there will be nothing to talk about. In addition, the number of killed security forces speaks about the failure. These are serious losses, they raise questions, whether forces were used correctly during the counter-terrorist operation, whether this operation was organized correctly, and so on,” he told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

In his assessment, the attack was prepared by experienced people. “These are experienced people, since they were able to plan and implement this. Killing 15 or more of our guys is not just attacking a patrol car and running away. It’s quite difficult and dangerous. And they were able to kill so many security forces. The coordination [of the attackers] was also high level. Everything was planned down to the smallest detail. They also wanted to create ethnic discord. They didn’t just attack on the day of the Christian holiday. It was impossible to provide round-the-clock security for all cultural and religious sites in our country. strengthen the security of churches and synagogues in Dagestan,” Goncharov noted.

The attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala were the first armed incidents in the republic in more than a year. At the same time, a number of incidents involving attacks on religious figures and places of worship occurred earlier in Dagestan.

According to him, the most effective way to fight terrorism is intelligence work. “First of all, intelligence and operational work should be carried out in the North Caucasus. We must try to ensure that the population helps law enforcement officers. If this is not done, then we will continue to suffer losses,” said Sergei Goncharov.

Retired Interior Ministry Colonel Amir Kolov also believes that the security forces have failed in their work in the fight against terrorism. “From the point of view of this position, this sabotage and terrorist action is a failure of the Russian special services or a betrayal on the part of the leadership of the security bloc responsible for security in the south of Russia. I would not be surprised if, under the pretext of taking security measures in the south of Russia, in particular in Dagestan, these traitors from the leadership of the power bloc of Russia and Dagestan will begin to put pressure on or persecute the real patriots of Dagestan and Russia in the person of leaders and activists of independent public organizations that are not supported by the authorities, unlike various kinds of public councils and trade unions under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB, the prosecutor's office, Investigative Committee and other government agencies,” Amir Kolov told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

Former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan Magomed Shamilov believes that the failure of the security forces is due to their relaxation. “It might have seemed to many that there had been no terrorist attacks in Dagestan for several years, and that there was no longer a danger from IS militants in the republic. Yes, there were positive results, but there was no need to relax. We had to continue operational work, search and find everyone those who sympathize with them,” he told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

Shamilov also believes that the attack on the synagogue and church was a planned action. “These are definitely prepared people, they almost didn’t miss, this suggests that they prepared for a long time. The question is why they didn’t hide. Apparently, the goal was to kill as many security forces as possible. If security had been strengthened, then it would have been possible it would be possible to avoid large casualties," he said.

The handwriting of the attackers is reminiscent of the actions of IS militants*, although the participants in the attack in Dagestan did not use the symbols of the banned organization, Islamic scholar and senior researcher at the Center for Caucasus Problems and Regional Security at MGIMO Akhmet Yarlykapov told Lenta.ru.

“It’s very similar to how representatives of the Islamic State carry out terrorist attacks*. However, many questions remain, since this time there was no noticeable tinsel associated with this organization: black armbands with inscriptions and so on. Perhaps they have already abandoned all this. So far no one has claimed responsibility for this attack, so we need to wait and see what happens,” the publication quotes him as saying today.

Let us recall that on June 23, the American Institute for the Study of War stated that the “Vilayat Caucasus” cell, a division of the “Islamic State”*, was behind the attacks. Pro-IS sources released a statement praising the “brothers from the Caucasus” for demonstrating what they are capable of. These sources did not claim responsibility for the attack itself, but the report "strongly suggests" that Wilayat Kavkaz was responsible for the attack, the researchers said.

The mayor's office of Derbent has denied the information about the slit of the priest's throat

Priest Nikolai Kotelnikov was shot dead during a militant attack; the information that his throat was cut is not true, the Derbent mayor's office reported.

As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, at 18.00 Moscow time on June 23, the Christian holiday of the Holy Trinity, militants attacked an Orthodox church and synagogue in Derbent, and a traffic police post in Makhachkala. One of those killed was 66-year-old priest Father Nikolai.

According to the Dagestan Ministry of Health, 20 people were killed and 46 injured as a result of the attack. The "Caucasian Knot" has prepared a report " Attack on a church and synagogues in Dagestan."

The information that priest Nikolai Kotelnikov’s throat was cut is not true, the head of the press service of the Derbent mayor’s office, Telman Radzhabov, said today in his Telegram channel. “The priest died from a bullet wound,” he wrote.

The fact that the priest’s throat was cut was announced on the evening of June 23 by Shamil Khadulaev, deputy chairman of the POC of Dagestan, in his telegram channel. “According to the information I received, Father Nikolai was killed in a church in Derbent and his throat was cut,” he wrote.

The attacks by militants in Dagestan were a failure of the security forces, who did not pay due attention to preventive work, security service veterans interviewed by the Caucasian Knot pointed out today. The attackers' actions were similar to the tactics of militants of the banned terrorist organization Islamic State, they noted.

Wahhabi party cell

One of the militants liquidated in Dagestan previously headed the regional branch of A Just Russia, the party told RIA Novosti.

“Ali Zakarigaev was the chairman of the party branch in the Sergokalinsky district, two years ago he left this position,” said the head of the apparatus of the regional branch of the party “A Just Russia - For Truth” Zurida Valeeva.

A source in the security forces reported to RIA Novosti that Zakarigaev was eliminated during a counter-terrorist operation in Dagestan.

Later, the press service of the SRZP RIA Novosti confirmed that Ali Zakarigaev was previously the chairman of the branch council in the Sergokalinsky district, but in 2021 he left the post and became an ordinary member of the party. Today he was expelled.

Law enforcement agencies told the agency that Zakarigaev was the nephew of the head of the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan, Magomed Omarov.

Last night, the regional branch of United Russia announced Omarov's expulsion from the party. As a RIA Novosti source in the republic's security forces reported, his sons, according to security officials, were among the participants in the attack.

British tourist gang-raped in Paris after music festival
[NYPOST] A British tourist was allegedly gang-raped on a Gay Paree street after partying at a music festival over the weekend in a twisted attack that may have been filmed, cops said.
Legume, I suspect South Asians. Get me my saxophone!"
The victim was found crying and clutching her underwear after leaving the Olympia concert hall in the French city’s 9th arrondissement in the early hours of Saturday, local outlet Le Figaro reported.

The distraught woman, who was rushed to a nearby hospital, told Sherlocks that a group of men had dragged her to a secluded area and sexually assaulted her.

She said her sick attackers then stole her phone and fled.

Investigators are probing whether the men may have filmed the horrid attack.

"She was walking back from a concert at the Olympia music venue and says she was approached by a group of men," a police source told the outlet.

"They surrounded her, and attacked her, and the fear is that they recorded their actions using their mobile phones."

The woman remained in the hospital as of Monday and was undergoing tests.

No arrests have yet been made.

Authorities haven’t disclosed any details about the victim, including her age, due to French law.

Five girls, ages 13 to 17, were injected with a mysterious substance as they celebrated another event in Gay Paree’ Saint-Maur-des-Fossés neighborhood.

The victims in that case, who witnesses say looked nauseous and were experiencing dizziness, alerted cops after all feeling stings in their arms.

The rape also comes a week after a 12-year-old Jewish girl was gang-raped in Gay Paree in what cops described as a sickening antisemitic attack.

Three French boys were arrested over the attack.

#2  When described as "French" it just means the children of Muslim migrants born in France.

The reason the gang-raping community is exclusively Muslim, is because of the teachings of Islam that are used to instruct young men that if a woman commits adultery she is stoned to death, but if she is raped she needs 4 male witnesses to prove it.

The result of this is that in Muslim countries like Pakistan, where sharia is law, women who complain of rape are locked in the prison themselves for admitting adultery if they haven't got 4 male witnesses.

Therefore Muslim men are culturally taught they can get away with rape quite easily and the woman will be punished.

And of course they are also praised for punishing non-Muslim women for not being Muslim, not being in their Hijab at home in the kitchen or only out when escorted by male relatives. That is Islamic culture based on the life and teachings of mohammad, and practiced by the Muslim world.

Azm-e-Istehkam: Govt clears the air on misconceptions about anti-terror operation
[GEO.TV] Two days after the federal government gave the go-ahead to Operation "Azm-e-Istehkam", the Prime Minister's Office late Monday clarified that "no large-scale military operation is being launched" in the country.

"The recently announced vision for enduring stability named Azm-e-Istehkam is being erroneously misunderstood and compared with earlier launched kinetic operations like Zarb-e-Azab, Rah-e-Najaat etc," read a statement issued by the PMO.

It said the previous kinetic operations were conducted to physically dislodge holy warriors from their known locations which had become no-go areas and compromised the writ of the state. "These operations required mass displacement of the local population and systematic clearance of affected areas."

The federal government has stated that there are no such no-go areas in the country since the ability of terrorist entities to carry out large-scale organised operations inside Pakistain was decisively degraded by earlier kinetic operations.

The statement comes as opposition parties including the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI), Jamaat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party

(ANP) and others voiced concerns over the launch of the new military operation, demanding that parliament must be taken into confidence before taking any such decision.

"Therefore, no large-scale military operation is being contemplated where displacement of population will be required," the PMO said.

It said that Operation Azm-e-Istehkam is a multi-domain, multi-agency, whole-of-the-system national vision for enduring stability in Pakistain.

It is meant to reinvigorate and re-energise the ongoing implementation of the revised National Action Plan, which was initiated after the national consensus across the political spectrum.

The statement further added that the new operation is aimed at energising already in place intelligence-based kinetic operations so as to decisively root out the nebulous and shadowy presence of remnants of terrorists, their facilitation due to crime-terror nexus, and rooting out violent mostly peaceful extremism in the country to ensure an overall secure environment in the country for its economic development and prosperity.

"This will include political, diplomatic, legal and information prongs apart from already continuing operations by all Law Enforcement Agencies," the statement said adding that the clarification should address all the misunderstandings as well as settle unnecessary debate on the subject.

The operation is being launched at a time as the country's overall fatalities in terrorist attacks and counter-terror operations reached a six-year high with nearly 1,000 deaths, The News reported in January quoting the Centre for Research and Security Studies's (CRSS) Annual Security Report.

UN chief accuses Israel of misinformation
[GEO.TV] United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
Secretary-General António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
accused Israel of spreading misinformation about him during the more than eight-month-long war between Israel and Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip.

"I've heard the same source many times saying that I never attacked Hamas, that I never condemned Hamas, that I am a supporter of Hamas," Guterres told a news conference on information integrity, without naming Israel.

"I have condemned Hamas 102 times, 51 of them in formal speeches, the others in different social platforms," he said. "The truth, in the end, always wins."

Israel's UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan said the condemnations by Guterres were "empty words when compared to his actions."

"His sole aim has been to help Hamas survive this war. We find it despicable that the secretary-general refuses to abide by the UN's standards and paints a distorted picture of events on the ground," Erdan said.

"Antonio Guterres is an accomplice to terror and should resign today."

#1  The largest voting block at the UN is the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation which is 54 Muslim nations organised on religious grounds.

All of them want Israel to become an Islamic state renamed "Palestine" and think they are religiously entitled to that outcome.

That's your problem at the UN.
Posted by: anon1 || 06/25/2024 1:52 Comments || Top||

#2  a little-remembered fact about the UN (as per yesterday's story Misunderstandings of Islam) is that one of its first ever votes (possibly the first) was for the creation of Israel plus a Muslim arab state out of the remains of British Mandate Palestine (from the river to the sea, ie: after they gave Jordan to other Arab Muslims from Mecca, the Hashemites)

So, that vote came down to the wire, 21 to 20 if i recall, there was just 1 vote in it.

And the Arab Muslims made it clear they would immediately declare war the second the British left - and wipe Israel off the face of the earth.

And they did immediately declare war.

And who supported them? Britain. Britain sent a million pounds per year to Jordan to support their cavalry fighting Israel in that war and sent 27 officers to advise them, because Lawrence of Arabia friendships and other nonsense ties created by them in WWI. The Jordanians were the only ones making any inroads against the Israelis, as the other Arab Muslim nations were generally hopeless.

The US told the British - if the UN is seen to fail in this its first ever important undertaking, then nobody will have any faith in it as a mechanism to avert war in international relations. They must be seen to succeed.

And if you don't stop sending money to the Arab Muslims, we are going to cut off your rebuilding money. Britain was in rubble after the war but they were sending money to islam. Yes.

So the British stopped supporting Jordan, and Israel won.

The Arab Muslims also told the United States - if you support the creation of Israel we will turn against you. We will side with the USSR (it was the start of the cold war)

And THAT is why the left sides with Islam

Because the Arab Muslims immediately made alliance with the USSR after the US backed the UN vote to establish Israel and stopped the British from covertly helping Islam

The USSR helped Islam and vice versa after that. Yasser Arafat created the "Palestinian" fake ethnicity with the help of the USSR propaganda strategists in 1964.

Supreme Court rules government, IDF must draft Haredi men
[Ynet] The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled unanimously that the government must draft Haredi men to military service. Petitioners asked it to rule against the government's efforts to solidify an exemption from military service for ultra-Orthodox men, while the IDF was fighting a war and suffering from a shortage of troops to meet the challenges it is facing.

On Monday, the government approved an extension to the amount of days Reserve troops would be required to serve.

In the ruling, the court says there can be no state funding for Yeshiva students who do not enlist.
This is big. It may signal a change of government - unless the Ultra-Orthodox in Bibi's coalition cut their losses.
Leaders of the Haredi community have said the yeshiva students contributed to Israel's security, no less than soldiers fighting in the war and that their devotion is Israel's defense.

Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef famously said his flock would leave the country if a draft was imposed on them.
Who'd take you?
Another prominent rabbi said death was better than military service.
I doubt his followers agree.

Top-secret US aquatic drone weapon ‘Manta Ray' spotted on Google Maps for all to see
[NY Post]As a kid I always wanted a flying sub like the Seaview's. Cool pics at link
A top-secret US submarine prototype weapon called "Manta Ray" has been spotted by eagle-eyed Google Maps users and remains plainly visible to the internet public.

Satellite photos showing the "Star Wars"-looking vessel docked at Port Hueneme naval base in California went viral Sunday, its unmistakable profile standing out like a sore thumb in contrast to its dockmates.

The smooth-looking autonomous vessel was named after the sea creature for its slick design and its ability to anchor itself deep underwater while operating in low-power mode.

Produced by Northrop Grumman as part of a US Navy project to develop long-range underwater weapons, Manta Ray is a sophisticated underwater drone capable of hibernating on the sea floor for "very long periods" without refueling.

It uses "efficient, buoyancy-driven gliding to move through the water," Dr. Kyle Woerner, Manta Ray program manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, said in an agency news release.

"Our successful, full-scale Manta Ray testing validates the vehicle’s readiness to advance toward real-world operations," Woerner added.

"The craft is designed with several payload bays of multiple sizes and types to enable a wide variety of naval mission sets."

Its modular design enables it to be disassembled and transported in ordinary shipping containers, eliminating the necessity for dedicated port facilities.

The Navy spent more than three months testing the craft off the coast of Southern California, the Telegraph reported.

Defense analysts suspect the Navy’s push to develop drone technology is intended as a strategic counter to Russian and Chinese submarine operations, the outlet said.

Russians have been developing underwater drones of their own, and last year announced plans to acquire nearly three dozen such vessels.

The US adversary claims its drone has a range of about 6,200 miles, can be armed with nukes and can reach speeds of up to 100 knots — or about 115 mph.

#8  They are autonomous enough now that they can be given weeks or months long missions with rules for unscheduled activities or get near enough to the surface for a flash message that will top mission objectives up again. And I'm sure all the subs and surface combatant USN vessels will be able to talk to it.

#11  From "The Wabbler" by Murray Leinster, written 1942:

...The Wabbler lay in its place, with its ten foot tail coiled neatly above its lower end, and waited with a sort of deadly patience... It and all its brothers were pear-shaped, with absurdly huge and blunt-ended horns, and with small round holes where eyes might have been, and shielded vents where they might have had mouths...

Splash! The Wabbler plunged into the water with a flare of luminescence and a thirty-foot spout of spume and spray rising where it struck... It dived swiftly for twenty feet... Then its falling checked. It swung about, and its writhing tail settled down below it... and then slowly, it settled downward. Its ten-foot tail seemed to waver a little, as if groping.

Then it made small sounds from inside itself. More bubbles came from the round place like a mouth. It settled one foot, two feet, three...

The Wabbler leaned infinitesimally toward the shore. Presently its flexible tail ceased to be curved where it lay upon the ooze. It straightened out. Then the Wabbler moved. Shoreward...
