The biggest stock trades in Congress revealed: Nancy Pelosi tops list
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is notoriously wealthy from making massive stock trades while in Congress, but she's not the only lawmaker cashing in.

Officially, lawmakers are not allowed to trade stocks using information learned on Capitol Hill. But that rule has been hard to enforce.

Congressional stock trades have caught the public eye since the pandemic, when some lawmakers raised eyebrows by selling shortly after closed-door COVID-19 briefings before the stock market crashed.

Pelosi, Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., Rep. Dan Mueser, D-Pa., Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., for example, have all traded over a million dollars in securities this year, according to federal data compiled by politician trade tracker Quiver Quantitative.

In 2012, the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act was passed to force politicians to disclose their trades.

The act forces officials to publicly disclose their transactions valued over $1,000 within 30 days of receiving notice of the trade and 45 days of the date of the trade. However, it does not require members disclose the exact price of a trade but rather a range.

Members must report trades made by themselves, their spouse or dependents - and the transparency law has led to a wealth of information about top politicians' pricey portfolios which can reach up to the tens, if not hundreds, of millions.

DailyMail.com breaks down the top stock trades made by politicians so far in 2024:

  • Nancy Pelosi: $4 millionRep. Josh Gottheimer: $46.2 million

  • Sen Rep. Dan Meuser: $1.2 million

  • Rick Scott: $26.4 million

  • Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene: $1.3 million

#1  I found this interesting; Sen. Rick Scott Scott has traded $26.35 million in 2024 alone. Interestingly, his disclosures do not indicate that he has traded any individual stocks this year.

Instead, the Florida Senator who has an estimated net worth over $320 million, has bought and sold municipal bonds and securities in areas all over the country.

His net worth has not fluctuated much since he joined Congress in 2019.

He was wealthy before he was elected, and does not appear to have profited. Yet he is tarred with Pelosi.

-Land of the Free
Louisiana law isn't about Ten Commandments. It's Christian nationalist bait for Supreme Court.
[MSN] Spend enough time listening to politicians, and eventually, one of them will tell you the truth.
Political hit piece in the guise of news follows.
"I can't wait to be sued," Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry declared four days before signing a law last week mandating that all public school classrooms — from kindergarten to college — display a Protestant Christian version of the Ten Commandments.
Roman Catholics count them differently. I never asked how Jews number them; never seemed important. Protestants are a majority in the country, as are Christians. I doubt he'd particularly care if the Catholic numbering was used. They're the same rules. The point is, there have to be some rules, and those ten are a pretty good summation of why Judeo-Christian or any society works.
2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

3 “You shall have no other gods before me.

4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Now, in my agnostic opinion, if you want to make a graven image and bow down to it, go ahead. You'll go to hell if there is one. Otherwise you'll just look really stoopid to the rest of us.

Roman Catholics combine these statements into a single First Commandment. Protestants split them into two, so the Cathlic second commandment becomes "Thou shalt not take the Lord's name in vain," which applies to swearing oaths, not saying "damn" or "hell" or even "shucks." From there they're in agreement, even though the numbers are off by one.:
  • Remember the Sabbath (good advice, that, quite apart from religion; set aside a day a week to recuperate from the other six):

  • Honor your father and your mother (you know why that's good advice if you're a father or a mother.).

  • Thou shalt not commit murder (not even jihad, but not "thou shalt not kill anything.").

  • Thou shalt not commit adultery (Be true to your wife; nothing in there about not looking at pretty girls)

  • Thou shalt not steal (nor embazzle, cheat, cook books, or that sort of thing.).

  • Thou shalt not bear false witness. (Telling your wife she's pretty when she looks like she just tumbled out of a cement mixer is okay.)

  • Catholics split the covets into two: Thou shalt not covet they neighbor's wife, and thou shalt not covet they neighbor's goods. Protestant combine then into Thou shalt not covet.

That leaves us with seven (or eight, depending on your flavor preferences) rules that are essential to the smooth working of society. The first two (or three) might be controversial to Moslems and maybe Hindoos and such, but there's not much difference between "I am the Lord, your God" and "Allsh is God" except for the missing Mohammed part. And "thou shalt not have strange gods before me" doesn't say you can't drop a few pice or rupees into the poor box down at the temple of Vishnu.
Landry made that declaration not in his state's Capitol but nearly 600 miles away in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was the keynote speaker at a fundraiser for the Tennessee Republican Party.
I'm really not up on the Christian nationalist thing, probably because I'm agnostic. I suppose not believing the U.S.A. can financially continue trying to give money to the entire world and supporting the totality of every war being fought anywhere and supporting most currencies does make me a nationalist.
Courting his party's Christian nationalists with controversy is an excellent way to boost a fella's national profile. Getting sued and maybe having that case go to the U.S. Supreme Court, where a few justices might be willing to toss overboard decades of precedent, is even better.
That's a correct statement,though I suspect with unfriendly motives.
Landry was so giddy about those prospects that he didn't even notice when a maiden of tender years standing behind him during Wednesday's signing ceremony fainted and collapsed to the floor.
Maybe he just couldn't see her from where he was standing. I'm not sure what giddiness has to do with it. Maybe he's just not the sort of man who comes down with the vapors when somebody else does.
"If you want to respect the rule of law, you've got to start from the original law giver, which was Moses," Landry said as others rushed to the girl's aid and an analogy about priorities was born.

#7  It's a historical document whether it touches on religion or not.

BTW, the concept of 'separation of church and state' is a judicial creation/fiction rather than what the Founders intended. Their intent was to ban an official state religion/sect be it as the Church of England or the Roman Catholic church as was found in Europe at the time. It was not to ban a culture which Christianity as a whole is.

#12  The First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. The Ten Commandments are Old Testament, that is to say, pre-Christianity.

If the TC offends athiests and non- Christians, I'm OK with that. It tells me a lot about where they are coming from, morality wise.
Posted by: M. Murcek || 06/24/2024 11:49 Comments || Top||

#13  Certainly, the country was founded by people that incorporated teachings from the Old and New Testaments into the Declaration and Constitution. In the 50’s and beyond activist judges booted God out of public life using rhetorical devices that continue to infect stupid people. Nature abhors a vacuum, so secularism filled the void in a way that has attacked all aspects of our moral character, the nuclear family and has spread misery throughout. The pendulum of iniquity has now stopped and is ready to swing in the opposite direction causing consternation among the demon possessed and journalists, but I repeat myself.

#19  Judeo-Christian is literally a thing that does not exist. Jews do not agree to be erased or co-opted by your Noahide religion.

Are you Jewish, Pearl Hapsburg1419? Because I am, and I would argue that Judeo-Christian is most definitely a thing, encompassing those things Jewish and Christian faiths and cultures have in common, and which form a cornerstone of Western civilization.

Nor do I believe that Christianity coopts Jews by recognizing those commonalities.

Separately, anyone interested in the Jewish, original Old Testament version of the Ten Commandments, the Chabad website, among many others, has it here.

The Jews went through a conversion-by-the-sword stage when the Maccabees ruled — that’s why King Herod was Jewish instead of worshipping whichever pagan gods his ancestors had been into a few generations previously. But neither the Romans nor the Persians put up with that kind of nonsense by client kings and subject peoples — and then both Christendom and the Ummah made it very illegal for the Jews to convert anyone, even if they came asking to be converted.

ND Gov and VP hopeful Doug Burgum warns not to underestimate Biden at debate
[Washington Examiner] Gov. Doug Burgum
…centimillionaire who made his nut in software, said to be one of the leading contenders for Donald Trump’s VP…
(R-ND) warned not to underestimate President Joe Biden’s debate abilities, saying, "When he needs to, he can step up."

Burgum joined CNN on Sunday morning to discuss this week’s debate between Biden and former President Donald Trump. He also noted that, despite criticisms of Biden’s mental acuity, he has been able to outperform expectations at major addresses like the State of the Union address.

"There has been a real effort on the Biden team to try to lower expectations, but I think we have to — look, the guy’s run for office more than a dozen times, he’s run for president four times, he’s been campaigning since President Nixon was in office," Burgum said. "This guy has got the ability. We’ve seen it. We’ve seen him in debate four years ago, we’ve seen him in the State of the Union this year, that when he needs to, he can step up."

North Carolina is on the verge of getting a MAGA governor. Why do we let this happen?
[MSN] There’s a type of person who thrives off of angering people online. They are commonly referred to as a "troll," someone who likes being provocative to get a rise out of netizens who come across the post.
We call them nitwit, pea brains, or other words with ast*risks in them.
Donald Trump
...The man who was so stupid he beat fourteen professional politicians, a former tech CEO, and a brain surgeon for the Republican nomination in 2016, then beat The Smartest Woman in the World in the general election...
proved in 2016 that being a troll can win you an election and now is proving it can get you a second presidential nomination.
Could be that most of us thought he was plain-spoken.
In North Carolina, my home state, there are two trolls on the ballot this year. Trump, whom you've heard of, and another who hopes to one day be just as famous.
Is he plain-spoken?
There has been a lot of recent coverage of North Carolina Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, now a gubernatorial candidate. Earlier this week, The Washington Post wrote about Robinson’s Facebook posts defending abusers like Harvey Weinstein.
If you can't trust the Washington Post, who can you trust?
"Harvey Weinstein and the rest of these high profile Hollywood elites were merely sacrificial lambs," Robinson said in a 2017 Facebook post, after dozens of women came forward to share their stories of Weinstein's sexual abuse. "They have been slaughtered in order to smear the airwaves with talk of ’sexual harassment’ and how pervasive the culture of ’toxic masculinity

...the liberal concept (the science is settled!) that men are knuckle dragging bastards who spend all their time watching football, drinking beer, burping, farting, and thumping their women. This doesn't apply if the men are girls transitioning to boys, or boys transitioning to girls, or either transitioning to sheep...
’ is in America."

California Budget Deal Slashes Spending but Includes $12 Million for Reparations
Black population of California: 2.203 million. That's a nice check for $21.33 per person.
[BREITBART] Gov. Gavin Newsom
...mayor of San Francisco as it transformed itself into Poopville, currently governor of Californiaas it transforms itself into Cinderland...
(D) and state legislators struck a deal this weekend to close a $47 billion budget deficit — and agreed to spend $12 million to implement proposals to provide reparations for slavery.
Obviously they're rolling in money. I'm not sure slavery's been legal in California since Spanish control.
  • Maybe the descendants of Indios are gonna get the money? You know, the ones who had to provide corvee labor for the monasteries and missions?

  • California entered the union as a free state. Slaves imported from the east with their owners had the habit of simply walking away, since there weren't any recapture mechanisms and no laws that would make them stay.

  • Are there gonna be reparations for Chinese and Japanese yellow perils?
The Sacramento Bee reported:

The budget agreement California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democratic leaders announced Saturday sets aside $12 million to help the state implement a series of reparations-related bills lawmakers hope will pass this year.
So $12 M to the people 'preparing' the bills for a vote.
For [Democratic Assemblywoman Lori Wilson, the chair of the Legislative Black Caucus], it was exactly what Black lawmakers asked for, she said. But it also comes in a year when the state was facing an almost $47 billion shortfall.

The money would help support proposals endorsed by the caucus, including having the state apologize for inflicting harm on Black Californians and allowing slavery to occur in the state.
When wuzzat?

Dearborn's Lebanese-American mayor warns Biden has not 'earned my vote'
[An Nahar] Abdullah Hammoud's election as the first Moslem mayor of Dearborn was a watershed moment for this city, an automaking hub home to the highest concentration of Arab-Americans in the United States.

But while his early focus was on upgrading sewer infrastructure and investing in parks, he has now been thrust into the national spotlight for his outspoken criticism of fellow Democrat Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant... or is that an act?...
, over the president's support for Israel's military offensive in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
.

"I'll be the first to say that we don't want to see (Donald) Trump reelected to the White House," Hammoud told AFP in an interview. "But people want to be inspired to come out."

Dearborn, a suburb of bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
famous as the birthplace of Henry Ford and home of the Ford Motor Company's headquarters, has a population of around 110,000 residents, of whom 55 percent claim Middle Eastern or North African heritage.

In 2020, Dearborn voters overwhelmingly supported Biden and their ballots could tip the scales in Michigan -- a crucial swing state that may ultimately decide the White House winner in November's election.

Hammoud's profile surged in January after he declined an invitation to meet with Biden campaign officials seeking to shore up the Moslem vote.

Since then, he helped galvanize a movement that saw over 100,000 voters mark "uncommitted" in Michigan's Democratic primary in protest against Biden's policy on Israel, and was asked by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein if he would be her running mate.

#1  Don't worry, it's Michigan, you'll still vote for him.
