The Mavericks Take a Break From Tour as Raul Malo Continues to Fight Cancer |
2025-08-02 |
But what comes next week is much bigger. The band’s frontman, Raul Malo, shared a post on Monday reflecting on the band’s recent run, and tucked away near the bottom of the long Instagram offering was a nugget that is incredibly important to the frontman and the band’s fans. "We’ll keep you all updated after next week’s surgery," he wrote. "Thank you all for your good wishes. Have a great rest of summer. Love to all. See you all down the road..." The surgery is key for the 59-year-old as he continues his battle against cancer which he first shared with fans last summer. He actually discussed what is coming up in another social media post earlier this month. "Thank you to everyone for their kind wishes and support throughout all of this," Malo wrote on Instagram. "It has not gone unnoticed I assure you. As we go through this, and I saw ’we’ because I am not going through this alone. My family at home, my crew, my band, my management ... my whole entire crew is going through this with me. Without their support who knows where I’d be. It’s important to surround yourself with as much love and support as possible. Psychology is an integral part of your physical state. I thought I had everything under control. (BTW, that’s just you lying to yourself) Then the cancer sideshows started to play out. "My sinus infection literally brought me to my knees," he added. "I had never felt headaches like that. I went to a specialist. Got it taken care of but the residual results are numbing of the left side of my face. Neurologist said it will repair over time. The damage is not permanent and not visible. A little drooling here and there ... oh well." "Perspective: I’m alive." Mavericks All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down. Back In Your Arms Again. Raul's 'Around The World.' Blue Moon. |

#1 I happened across these guys one day while browsing on YouTube. They had a whole concert on there. I listened to it all, then went out and bought their CD. These days there aren't many bands that can get me to do that. |
