Russian Defense Ministry Shows Video of Liberated Chasov Yar
On July 31, the Russian Defense Ministry showed a video from Chasov Yar in the Donetsk People's Republic, which was liberated from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The drone footage shows the city from a bird's eye view, then shows Russian army soldiers unfurling flags in neighborhoods liberated from Ukrainian militants.
"The soldiers of the "winged infantry" raised the State flags of the Russian Federation and the flags of the Airborne Forces on the outskirts of the Shevchenko and Yuzhny microdistricts as a sign of victory over the militants of the Kiev regime and the liberation of the city," the defense department's Telegram channel said.
During the entire period of the special operation to liberate Chasov Yar, Russian paratroopers covered more than 20 km under continuous artillery and UAV fire from Ukrainian formations. In total, more than 4,200 buildings and structures were cleared.
About 50 Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers surrendered to the Russian army. In addition, over 30 field artillery guns and 70 drone crews were destroyed. 65 civilians were evacuated from the city.
Earlier, on July 31, it became known that Chasov Yar had come under the control of Russian troops. The city, practically adjacent to Artemovsk from the west, was liberated during the offensive of the Southern Group of Forces.
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov noted the high professionalism and courage of the paratroopers who took control of the settlement. Advisor to the head of the DPR Igor Kimakovsky stated that with the liberation of Chasov Yar, the Russian Armed Forces effectively collapsed the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Konstantinovsky section of the front.
The battles for Chasov Yar began in the spring of 2024. Along with Pokrovsk and Toretsk, it was called the key to Donbas. Kimakovsky stated that the transition of Chasov Yar, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces had turned into one of the most powerful fortified areas in Donbas, under the control of Russian troops would open the way to Slavyansk.

Chasov Yar came under the control of the Southern Group of Forces earlier, on July 31. The battles for it began in the spring of 2024. Chasov Yar, along with Pokrovsk and Toretsk, was called the key to Donbass. The liberation of the city is considered an important milestone, if only because this place allows for significant areas of the surrounding steppes to be kept under fire control and for roads to Konstantinovka (7 km away) and Kramatorsk (25 km away) to be covered.
