Outmigration Is Killing Illinois, and Democrats Can't Fix It |
2025-07-30 |
Case in point: Illinois is bleeding residents, almost a million between 2012 and 2022. Only New York and California are losing more people to outmigration. Where are all those people going, and why? Economist Stephen Moore has some thoughts. Using data from the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Census Bureau, analysts found that Illinois lost 881,012 residents from 2012 to 2022. Economist Stephen Moore said only New York and California suffered more domestic outmigration than the Land of Lincoln. "This is the sad story, same thing. New York and California and Illinois are just being bled to death," Moore said. VoteWithYourFeet.net breaks down the Census Bureau and IRS numbers from 2012 to 2022. The data shows that Illinois was also one of the biggest losers for personal income, with a net adjusted gross income loss of $63,478,115,000 from 2012 to 2022. Only New York and California suffered heavier losses. This is an eloquent portrayal of a state that is failing. They have driven the productive away, and a society can not survive without the productive, despite what Democrats say. And the very notion that things like horrendous taxation don't matter is laughable. People vote with their wallets, and when necessary, they vote with their feet. |

#6 Sometimes in the evening after say 9 o'clock, the traffic on 395 behind my house on a hill in NW Nevada, finally drops from 5 or six cars a minute to sometimes less than one every few minutes. You really need to move Abu, the Golden State is not going to get better anytime soon. |

#5 Traffic is a nightmare, massive apartment complexes are popping up all over the place and home prices are astronomical. Happening North of Atlanta as well. |

#4 I'm sorry but, here in coastal southern California, I still don't see any sign of it. We still have way too many rats in the cage. Traffic is a nightmare, massive apartment complexes are popping up all over the place and home prices are astronomical. I can't imagine who is buying or renting or whatever they're doing. I don't know where or how they make that kind of money but they must be making it somehow. Gasoline is upwards of $5 a gallon. Taxes are ridiculous and the roads are full of pot holes. Hobos are everywhere. Get out! |

#2 Down here in the Mid-South, we used to call them 1/2 Backs. Because they would move to Fla. get hit few times back to back by T-storms, then leave A1A and etc.. Moving 500 to 700 miles 1/2 way back to still rural Southern areas. Now that most of theses areas have gone RED, where are they moving? BTW: Seeing a bumper sticker around here, reading. "How can a Christian Vote Democrat" |

#1 Fifty+ years of poor employment prospects and extremely high property taxes have not helped the situation. |
