Except, Skidmark, that his faith says that the proof of Allah’s approval is victory. At the moment, the Mad Mullahs are very clearly losing, which means if he dies at the hands of the Unbelievers, Paradise — and Paradise’s 72 beauteous maidens, not the mention the boys with faces like angels — are not waiting at the end of the tunnel, but rather descent into the nastiness of the Moslem Hell. Not, I imagine, a comforting thought.

If it reflects badly on Trump, then it must be true, amirite? Or it could be bullshite. Or a combination of the two. Maybe Trump did ask them to hold off, perhaps because it would disrupt something else going on at the time, like last minute talks with the mullahs, or getting Putin on board.

If you are like most people, when confronted with new evidence, you ponder the facts and probabilities, and make a reasoned judgement. At least that is what you tell yourself. In reality, you pick up the new bit of news and cram it on a shelf with all your prior beliefs. It is how our brains work, something we evolved to save computing power because brains are expensive to run.

On the question of whether Trump should go all in, it might be a bit early. We can always play that card later, like when Iran briefly blockades the Strait of Hormuz. In the meantime, by being a kinda-sorta neutral but interested party, Trump provides a safe haven if the mullahs tire of sticks and decide they want the carrot after all.

Someone has to sign the surrender, and it helps if all onthe losing side agree on the legal right of the signer to do so. When there are questions of the order of succession following a series of deaths…
