[Korrespondent] In total, 28 criminal proceedings are being investigated regarding the murder of 62 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian troops, the Prosecutor General said.
Ukraine is investigating 28 criminal proceedings regarding the killing of 62 Ukrainian prisoners of war by the occupiers; law enforcement officers reported suspicions to four persons within the framework of these proceedings. Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andrey Kostin announced this on Wednesday, June 19, during a telethon, Interfax-Ukraine writes.
“In general, today we are investigating 28 criminal proceedings regarding the murder of 62 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian troops. In these proceedings, suspicions have been reported to four persons, an investigation has already been completed against two people and indictments have been sent to court. One person has been convicted,” he said Prosecutor General
Kostin recalled that the day before it became known that the Russian occupiers beheaded one of the Ukrainian servicemen in the Volnovakha district of the Donetsk region. Law enforcement officers were able to identify the deceased.
Kostin hopes that the harsh reaction of international partners to this blatant fact “will be converted into real steps to put pressure on Russia and ensure punishment for committing international crimes.”
As of April 2024, the prosecutor's office was aware of 54 Ukrainian prisoners executed by the Russians. The court has already sentenced the first Russian military man for executing a defense lawyer in the Chernigov region.
